PROPERTIES
BIOFIX K04 is a cationic agent used to improve water, perspiration and
light fastness properties of the coloured leather, particular for garment and
gloving leather. BIOFIX K04 improves affinity of anionic dyestuff with
vegetable tanned leather or semichrome leather .The treatment of this kind
of material with little quantity of BIOFIX K04 improves fullness and
brilliancy of the colour, as well it's possible to obtain particular effect of
staining using the product in a certain way.
USE
To avoid precipitation with anionic products we advise to use BIOFIX K04

CONC.
Oxidizing agent

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. is a strong bleaching agent that in acid condition
develops gaseous chlorine dioxide with a strong oxidising action. For this
reason BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. must not be allowed to come in contact
with strong acid in its undiluted state since this may cause the spontaneous
evolution of gas which may ignite. BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. is used for
many purpose , mainly for bleaching, decolorization, descaling of reptile
skins and rarely for oxidative unhairing. We advise to use the product only
in drums equipped with fun - aspiration system , and anyway always with
proper precaution.
USE
Bleaching during pickling:
1-2% of BIOKAL B EXTRA CONC. allows to obtain a good white and
pigment free pickled pelt advantageous for production of white tanning or
for production of pastel shade colour. Usually it is added together with salt
before the addition of acid followed by at least four hours of drumming.It is
advisable to neutralised the excess of chlorine dioxide adding low
percentage of sodium thiosulphate(test with potassium - iodide starch
paper ).

BIOKAL G
Auxiliary for tanning and retanning

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL G thanks to its particular composition acts on tanning and
retanning float improving the exhaustion of them from chrome salt, so
advantages will occur ;
- decreased quantity of chrome in waste water

All this advantages do not influence the colour if the wet-blue that appears
light and without stains of basification. In retanning of suede, it improves
buffing and gives brilliant and intense colour
USE
To replace traditional basifying agent during tanning add BIOKAL G in the
drum in powder form 0,5%-1%. Retanning of suede split add 1% of
BIOKAL G after 30' of drumming with chrome retannage and then

BIOKAL LA
Soap paste
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL LA is a traditional soap paste derived from superior sulphonated
fatty alcohols, finds application for any number of processes, both as a
detergent and emulsifier, although it is particularly effective when added to
fatliquor mixtures: which are thus given higher penetration, thereby giving a
fresh and velvet feel to the leather. The product can also be used both for
``vacate type`` and sulphonated fatliquor mixtures in vegetable tanned
leather.
USE
0.5 to 2% in any oil mixtures, for both chrome and vegetable tanned
leather. For wetting back crust suede leathers: 0.5 to 1% on dry weight.

BIOKAL RM
Sequestering agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL RM is a phosphates based sequestering agent with a high
molecular chain which allows the reduction of the water hardness also
using a low quantity of BIOKAL RM. Owing to its sequestering properties
BIOKAL RM helps water and chemical penetration through the skin fibre,
therefore due to these properties is one of the most used products in the
tannery. BIOKAL RM can be successfully used during soaking of raw skin,
improving penetration of the water. BIOKAL RM used during neutralisation
improves penetration of neutralising and retanning agents. BIOKAL RM
improves solubility of anionic dyestuff. Unlike other products BIOKAL RM is
not difficult to store, due to being only partially hygroscopic.
USE

BIOKAL SY
Bating agent for acid environment
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL SY is an enzymatic product developed to be used in acid condition
as bating agent mainly on skins, for example sheep skins and goatskins
.The product can be used successfully also on wet-blue , but it is during
pickling that BIOKAL SY gives the best result giving the following
advantages:
- opening up of the fibrous structure with increasing in yield
- the leather will be softer
- cleaner grain
- elimination of folding due to the packing from the country of origin.
USE
Percentages vary from 1% to 3% on shaved or pickled weight, during
depickling or before retannage.

BIOSINT K30
Bleaching agent for production of fur leather
FEATURES
- Easy soluble in water white powder.

PROPERTIES
BIOSINT K30 it is used for the bleaching of the leather with hair (shearling),
it can be also used for the bleaching of dyed leather.
USE
To bleach the hair it is usually used upon the soaking. For paddle the
quantity varies from 2 to 5 g of product/lt of float. The medium time of this
treatment is 4 hours ca., depending of kind of leathers.

BIO-SYL
Concentrated bating agent for acid environment
FEATURES
- Mixture of various proteolytic enzymes obtained by industrial fermentation
of micro-organisms combined with activating and inert carriers.
- Thin white powder packed in sealed bags of 1 kg. each.
PROPERTIES
For treating skins in acid environments (e.g. pickled skins, wet blue leather
etc.), fungoproteases are obtained by growing certain micromoulds on
appropriate media and then separating the mould enzymes. Optimum pH
for activity is in an acid environment. These fungoproteases are also
characterised by their stability in the presence of high temperatures
(60C.), where proteases of animal nature are absolutely inactive.
Following results can be obtained by using BIO-SYL:
- Elimination of areas where soaking, liming and bating procedures failed
- Softening of leather, following hydrolization of interfibrillar substances,
particularly for pigskins and splits as well as goat skins.
- Levelling of chrome stains.
USE
0.5 to 3% on shaved weight, depending on type of skins and final leather
required. Always process at pH levels 4 to 5 and temperatures from 30C.
up to 50-60C.

BIOTAN TD
Auxiliary anionic dispersing agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOTAN TD is an excellent dispersing agent for dyeing, retanning and
anionic fatliquors, that helps a perfect distribution on the whole surface and
through the section of the leather. During retannage with either synthetic or
vegetal tannins, as well as with anionic resins, it allows a penetration and
distribution of these agents, thus increasing fullness, softness and elasticity
of the grain. BIOTAN TD allows uniform distribution of anionic dyes, whose
penetration and clearness are considerably enhanced, with the great
advantages of clearness of the chromatic tone. Particularly clear and clean
shades are obtained by using BIOTAN TD together with BIOTAN GNW
before adding dye or together with dyestuff.
USE
As a dye disperser: 1 to 4% on shaved weight ,or twice above dosage on
dry weight. As a retanning auxiliary: 4 to 6% on shaved weight.

DETAN KT
Sequestering agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
Detan KT is used during "de-tanning" process of wet-blue leathers where,
thanks to its decomplexing properties, it neutralises and stops the
chromium removed from leather fibres, avoiding the fixing on the leather
same. Particularly, it is used for vegetabled articles, for which a strong
vegetal retanning is required, improving not only the appearance and the
characteristics of the articles but also the physical properties thanks to the
superficial preparation of the leather that becomes more suitable to above
mentioned retannings.
USE
Percentages of use of Detan KT vary from 2 to 3% upon a previous
detanning treatment of the leather with oxalic acid or other strong acid.

DETERPON SC/3
Softening soap
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
DETERPON SC/3 is an excellent detergent yielding soft, silky
leather.DETERPON SC/3 is particularly suitable for furskins, either in
soaking procedures ( 2-3 g/l ) or in fatliquoring, whose emulsion stability,
distribution and penetration ( even during tanning ) are thus enhanced.
USE
For soaking double-face lambskins: 2-3 g/l.
In fatliquoring for furskins, during tanning: 20% of liquor weight in
DETERPON SC/3.
For fatliquoring of neutralised skin ( cattle sheep ): 1 to 3% on shaved
weight.

Degreasing agent with strong emulsifying action
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
This is a degreasing agent which can be used in a wide range of
applications; thanks to its fundamental biodegradability and to its positive
toxicological properties it can fully replace phenolic surfactant and/or
solvent derived agents, which are commonly used in tanneries. ECOTENS
has a degreasing capacity which is equal (in some cases, even superior) to
that of above surfactants and is fully biodegradable (100%) in 15 days.
USE
ECOTENS can be used ( as is the case with conventional non ionic
degreasing agents) in soaking, liming, bating, soaking of shaved wet blue
leather etc.

PROPERTIES
ECOTENS NF is a special surfactant with a very low foaming properties
and a good wetting and fats dispersing power. Thanks to its properties it is

PROPERTIES
EGALISOL BZ is a levelling agent particularly suitable for chrome tanned
leather, as well as for mineral and synthetic tanned leather. The main
feature of EGALISOL BZ lies in its being dye compatible, thereby forming
compounds which separate while dyeing and enhance progressive dye
penetration and levelling of shades, even in the case of multi-dye colouring.
USE
0.1 to 1.5 g/l of EGALISOL BZ, depending upon processing and dye
percentages.

NEUTROPEL C/7
Chrome tannage neutraliser
FEATURES
- White powder of a high specific gravity.
PROPERTIES
NEUTROPEL C/7 is a chrome tannage neutraliser suitable for any type of
leather without any risk of over neutralisation (whose dangers are well
known by tanners). NEUTROPEL C/7 is a product made of salts which, by
combining with chromium salts unabsorbed by dermal structures, generate
complex compounds which can be retained by the skin. This product allow
the tanner to obtain uniform dyeing, fuller leather and finer grain. There is
no danger of a surface de-tanning due to over alkalinization, which makes
preliminary washing unnecessary: a considerable advantage over
traditional neutralising agents. Buffer neutralising mixtures can be obtained
by mixing with synthetic neutralising tannins such as BIOTAN CD and
NEUTROPEL TS.
USE
1 to 3% depending on thickness, type of leather and final leather required;
it may be used either alone or combined with other neutralising agents.

Neutralising agent for soft leather

PROPERTIES
NEUTROPEL CB is a mixture of organic and derivative of naphtol,
developed for the neutralisation of heavy and light leather for production of
really soft articles like nappa , clothing etc. NEUTROPEL CB must always
be used together with sodium bicarbonate or sodium formate; in this way
we obtain neutralisation through the cross section without too high pH
value .
USE
Neutralisation of wet-blue for production of soft leather:
150% water 35C
1,5 % NEUTROPEL CB
3% SODIUM BICARBONATE
2% SODIUM FORMATE RUN 2 hrs

Neutralizing anionic retanning agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
NEUTROPEL CX/N is a synthetic retanning agent with a high neutralising
capacity. Using NEUTROPEL CX/N alone or with other neutralising salt it is
possible to obtain soft but still full and firm leather. NEUTROPEL CX/N is
suitable for full and buffed grain leather and for all articles that require a
firm grain. NEUTROPEL CX/N is light fast therefore it is recommended for
white leather. NEUTROPEL CX/N gives even dyeing with anionic dyestuff.
USE
Alone as neutralising agent: 2-3% on shaved weight. It can be used in
combination with NEUTROPEL C/7 or other traditional neutralising salt.
NEUTROPEL CX/N can be used during retanning with syntans or
vegetable tannin agent ( 2 to 5% on shaved weight )

Buffered neutralising agent

PROPERTIES
Typical characteristics of NEUTROPEL K are the good neutralising action
on chrome leathers and the very good padding effect together with a fairly
good retanning and equalising action. For these reasons NEUTROPEL K
has several possibilities of use:
a) as neutralising agent on chrome leathers alone or combined with usually
used traditional alkaline salts or our Neutropel C/7;
b) as anionic dyestuffs dispersing agent or basic dyestuffs mordant;
c) as anionic retanning agents (resins, syntans, etc...) dispersing agent to
which ensure a better and firmer penetration inside the leather.
It can be also used with success upon mineral retanning (chromium,
aluminium, zirconium) to stabilise pH and to improve the exhaustion of the
same. Used in retanning or in dyeing of velour skins it improves the
softness and buffing properties.
USE
Due to polyfunctionality of the product, percentages of use vary also a lot
(1-5%) depending on needed use and final article. Our technical staff is at

Penetrating agent for anionic dyes

NEUTROPEL NTS, thanks to its balanced formulation of weak alkaline
substance, permits to obtain uniform and delicate neutralization on all kind
of material. The product is used also during de.pikling, where is advisable

NEUTROPEL SA is a complete neutralising agent for chrome tanned
leather, allowing any number of articles to be obtained. In thick leather this
product yields considerably fuller, firmer grain; furthermore, it provides well
dye able surfaces without affecting the yield of the dyestuffs. NEUTROPEL
SA completes our range of neutralising agents and can therefore be mixed
with NEUTROPEL CX, NEUTROPEL C/7 and with BIOTAN CD.
USE
2 to 5% depending on leather thickness, type of leather and final leather
required; it may be used either alone or combined with other neutralising
agents.

heavy leather whose cutting edges remain visible, heavy splits, etc.
USE
NEUTROPE SW can be used from 2 to 4% on shaved weight as dye
penetrating agent, depending upon required shade.
NEUTROPEL SW can also be used as a dispersing agent for anionic
retanning agents.

OVONUTREX
Auxiliary for fatliquoring and degreasing
FEATURES
- Viscous amber coloured liquid.

PROPERTIES
OVONUTREX used as an auxiliary for fatliquoring increases softness of
the leather. It provides finer and more stable emulsions with a better
distribution of the oil within and on the surface of the leather. OVONUTREX
is a powerful emulsifier, and can also be used as a dyeing auxiliary before
adding dye: which will allow brighter, uniform dyeing to be achieved. This
product is also an excellent wetting agent for crust leathers, the latter being
rapidly wetted-back and prepared for subsequent dyeing, giving a good
feel.
USE
For oil mixtures: 0.5-1% on shaved weight.
For wetting-back of all types of dry leather: 0.5-2% on dry weight. As a
dyeing auxiliary: 0.5% either before or upon adding dye to the mixture.

SUPRALEN BK 81

PROPERTIES
The SUPRALEN BK 81 is used in order to improve the fixation of dyes
and the resistance to the water, to the perspiration and to the light of
coloured leathers, in particular for leathers used for clothes and glove
factory. The SUPRALEN BK 81 improves the affinity of anionic dyes with
the vegetable tanned leathers or chrome leathers giving full, bright and
uniform colours.
USE
The SUPRALEN BK 81 is used both before the second adding of
dyes(Sandwich System) in order to obtain darker shades, and like fixing
agent in order to improve the fixing and fastness of leathers colours.
The quantity of use suggested vary from 0,5% to 1,5% depending on the
treated leather. For further information about that, our technician staff is

TERGEROL GA
Degreasing agent based on solvent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
It is a solvent derived degreasing agent enabling particularly effective
degreasing even at very low temperatures, for limed or pickled skins with
high percentages of natural fat like pig and sheepskins. TERGEROL GA is
unaffected by hard water; its degreasing activity can occur even in low
temperature bath, it enhances uniform distribution of natural greases
throughout the skin and it never causes the grain drying, on the contrary
the grain remains elastic and silky. TERGEROL GA is indicated for soaking
of really greasy raw material also for wool on sheepskins production.
USE
This product can be of valuable use in a number of processes, such as
soaking, deliming and degreasing; dosages may range from 0.5 to 3% or
more, and combination with other detergents may be advantageous.
Extremely positive results were obtained by using TERGEROL GA
combined with BIOKAL 100 for treating wet blue leather of exotic origins.

PROPERTIES
Biocid is a wide range biocide. It can be used both during soaking as
bactericide or during tannage a antimould agent
USE
During soaking, depending condition of the raw material and environment,
from 0.1% to 0.15%.As antimould agent for tanned material, quantity varies
depending time of storage and environment condition. We suggest the
following:

BIOCID 40
Bactericide
FEATURES
- Basis: Sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate in solution
- Yellow liquid with anionic charge
- Concentration: 40%-42%

PROPERTIES
Specific bactericide for soaking, BIOCID 40, if added correctly in floats,
avoids the reproduction and the multiplication of decomposition bacteria
and so the damages to the hide derived from the same.The necessary
dosage depends to the preservation state of the skins, to the temperature
and to the length of soaking process.
USE
The indicative dosage changes from 0.05 to 0.1% on the weight of fresh
hide. The product is used with success also in the finishing solutions,
particularly if containing caseins and in the fatliquoring , specially when the
used fatliquors contain natural oils as neatsfoot oil or fish oils.In the last
case, percentages, varying from 0.05 to 0.1%, calculated on shaved
weight, give results more than satisfactory. Also in the case of very fat
hides it is suitable a previous degreasing with appropriate products
because the natural fats facilitate the development of bacteria.

BIOKAL DM
All-purpose deliming agent
FEATURE
- Mixture of salts of non swelling complex active aliphatic carboxylic acids.

PROPERTIES
The active components in the mixture make BIOKAL DM a powerful
deliming agent particularly suitable for full substance leather, with no risk
of acid swellings which might jeopardise grain quality. BIOKAL DM
eliminates interfibrillar lime as well as lime portion links to the proteinic
structure of the hides or skins which is not obtainable with either weak
acids or ammonia salts. BIOKAL DM delimed skins exhibit fine elastic and
clean grain . The water released during deliming procedures eliminates all
keratinous residuals, absence of which yields, during tanning a beautiful
flat grain without creases
USE
BIOKAL DM is quite easy to use, since it never yields empty leather or
rough grain, even in high dosages. BIOKAL DM can be poured directly into
the drum, though it is advisable to previously wash the skins with either
small percentages of the product or ammonia sulphate

Traditional enzymatic soaking agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL KB is a mixture of soaking enzymes and alkaline salts, devised so
as to allow rapid soaking with traditional and simple procedures. BIOKAL
KB allows excellent result to be obtained in a few hours both with fresh wet
salted and with dry salted skins. Better soaking provides more open, less
shrunken and cleaner leather.
USE
BIOKAL KB is usually poured directly into the drum: enzymes are
distributed and become active in a few minutes of rotation. Soaking time
and recommended percentage of use can vary according to the final
product, as well as to thickness it is always advisable for drum temperature
not to rise over 26-28o C; pH levels should be set at 9.5-11 by means of
either caustic or solvay soda. For further information on the matter, please

Deliming agent at low developing of ammoniacal nitrogen

BIOKAL S removes all lime residuals absorbed by skin structure, as well as
those linked to the proteic components in the fibrils, without in the least
affecting collagen integrity. During deliming with BIOKAL S of limed hides
and skins, liberation of water permits keratinous and interfibrillar residuals
to become soluble: subsequent tanning and retanning procedures will
therefore yield smooth, even skins. A particular advantage with BIOKAL S
is that no bad smelling vapours accompany either deliming or the
operations related to emptying and washing the drum after such
procedures. BIOKAL S prevents the acid swelling which is so dangerous
for the grain.

BIOKAL STA is a liming auxiliary that when is used during liming enhance
the action of the alkaline substance obtaining an easier penetration of lime
throughout the fibrous structure of the pelt and cleaner grain and follicles
thanks to the action of the amines on the keratinous and collagen protein.
As well BIOKAL STA produces pelt with a more relaxed structure and
therefore improves the wrinkles and sometimes the yield of the final
products. Low quantities of BIOKAL STA ( 0.3% - 0.5% ) during soaking
improve this operation and prepare the pelt to the next operation of liming,
improving grain clearness and opening up.
USE
At the beginning of liming procedures 0.5% - 1% in drums or 0.8 - 1.5% in
paddles. When used during soaking ( traditional or enzymatic soaking)
0.3%-0.8% depending if soaking is carried on in drums or paddles. For

BIOKAL STR's particular composition allows on liming a fast penetration of
alkaline substances into the structure of soaked skins, thereby enhancing

bath stimulates the action of BIOKAL STR. Amines and alkaline salts (both
components of the BIOKAL STR) are long known to be the basic

For all liming procedures : 0.5-1%. Unlike similar products, adding a small

BIOSINT F is deliming agent with an excellent buffing property. It acts

BIOSINT TR/Conc., can be used for the bating of all kinds of pelt. It is

TR/Conc. performs better than traditional bating agents, since
contamination by room air and humidity is limited to a small portion of the

DEPILZYM/E has been studied for long time in our laboratories, the
enzymes that compound this product are suitable to attack the keratin of
hair follicles and so this product gets an unhairing action. Using
DEPILZYM/E it is possible to obtain unhairings with a minimum use of
sodium sulphide or sulphidrate allowing a remarkable improvement under
the ecological aspect. DEPILZYM/E is recommended particularly as
coadjuvant of sulphide in traditional liming operations and improving
considerably grain clearness. Of course the percentages of used unhairing
chemicals are drastically reduced with a consequently reduction of polluting
charge in waste floats.
USE
In drum or paddle: 0.2 0.4% on fresh salted weight added in float at pH 12
plus. To obtain the maximum effect in liming with hair recover, after
immunisation with lime, it can be added together with or after the
sulphide/sulphidrate. Of course the use of DEPILZYM/E allows the
reduction of used percentages of sodium sulphide or sulphidrate.

ECOVIT 03
Enymatic soaking agent with pH activator

PROPERTIES
ECOVIT 03 is a mixture of soaking enzymes and alkaline salts that allows
to obtain a buffered pH of the soaking bath at around 9,5/10. ECOVIT 03

ECOVIT 03 is usually poured directly into the drum: enzymes are
distributed and become active in few minutes of rotation. Soaking time and

PROPERTIES
Easy to use product with which it is possible to obtain a quick and sure
soaking on all types of skins and hides. The component of ECOVIT 90
speeds up the process of soaking improving the quality of the final result.
1) Enzymatic activity that favours idrolisation of the non structured protein
of the skin, therefore there is a better and quicker diffusion of water into the
skin itself.
2) Reduction of the water surface tension due to the special wetting agent
present.
3) Buffing of the pH until 9 favours enzyme activity and the soaking process
in general. This pH value stabilises throughout the process, without
therefore creating imbalances with consequences of undesirable swelling.
At the end of the treatment the skins are soft, with the flesh soft and
completely separated from the skin. The pH of the bath is uniform as are
the skins even in cross section.
USE
On shoulder or heavy bovine, after a good washing, use percentages
varying from 0.9% to 1.2% in short bath (60%) at a temperature of 28C.

is obtained after 3 hours. It is possible to prolong the action especially

During liming the composition of ECOVIT SG allows a quick penetration of

gives a cleaner pelt.
USE
During liming: 0.5-1% of ECOVIT SG together with lime and sulphur. Unlike
dimenthylamines products, there are no particular precaution to be taken

As a result of studies carried out on the antiwrinkle properties of alkaline
amine on the skin (used during liming) ECOVIT SG/K was developed. In

USE
During liming: 0.5-1% together with lime and sodium sulphide. Unlike other
dimenthylamine based products ECOVIT SG/K is not harmful or toxic.

After good soaking with RINAZYM or BIOKAL KB
Add. 0,5 - 1,5% ECOVIT SG/M

Add 0,7-1,2% sodium sulphide or soium hydrosulphide run 30-40`
Check hair removing. At this point it is possible to recover the hairs and
then add the remaining lime and sodium sulphide necessary to obtain the

PROPERTIES
LYPOZYM is really a degreasing agent, its properties derived from a
particular lipase, that is an enzyme, able to hydrolyse natural fats
(triglycerides) of leathers and to turn them into easily water soluble
products (monoglycerides, glycerol, etc.,). in this way, by adding common
surfactants it is possible to obtain strong degreasing actions also on
particularly fat leathers as pigs, sheeps, Australian hides, Paker hides, etc.
This characteristic concretely gives:
- improvement of final quality of leathers;
- improvement of waste floats, thanks to the reduction of 1/10 the quantity
of used surfactants and to the elimination of the necessity to use solvents.
The product has been long time tested both from us and from specialised
laboratories and we can absolutely guarantee the selective property of this
enzyme which attacks only natural fats and never collagen proteins or
other substances that may cause damage to leathers.
USE
LYPOZYM is generally used during deliming followed by a small
percentage of surfactant added in the same float of the following bating.
Percentages of use vary from 0.1 to 0.3%. LYPOZYM can be used also

RINAZYM acts specifically on the organic substances within the skin, thus
accelerating soaking and liming procedures: in fact, its use results in a
considerable reduction in the time normally required for such operations,

the BIOSINT CR it allows ( under particular conditions) rapid soaking of dry

USE

BIOTAN A can be used as tanning agent during the oil tannage together
with fish oil. The product has got emulsifying properties on natural fats

properly degreased leather or where fat-liquoring has been done using fatliquors not suitable .BIOTAN A can also be used to improve tear resistance
due to the affinity of the product with the fibre of the leather.
USE
Oil tannage : After a pickle to pH 3,5 , pretanning with 1,5% of BIOTAN GL
for about 90' then basify to pH 7/8 with calcium or sodium formate ,
sammying, shaving and then tanning with8% BIOTAN A + 8% FISH OIL
Drum 2 hours , drying and degreasing as usual.
To improve the tear resistance of chrome tanned hides or skins 1-2%
BIOTAN A with 1-2% BIOXOIL BXR together with chrome run 90' and then
carry on retannage as usual.

penetration, therefore it can be used for the production of nappa. It is also

BIOXOIL A/93 is a sulphonated synthetic sperm oil with surfactant agents.

tanning of furskins (e.g. double face). BIOXOIL A/93 gives the skins a
greater softness when compared to fatliquors containing completely
synthetic paraffin sulphochloride. BIOXOIL A/93 also leaves the fur grease
free.
USE
BIOXOIL A/93 is used during chrome tanning together with BIOXOIL BXZ
thus increasing BIOXOIL A/93 penetrating capacity.It is advisable to use
DETERPON SC/3 together with BIOXOIL A/93 and BIOXOIL BXZ to
increase the stability of the emulsion in a long float.

BIOXOIL A/100 is a oil developed to meet particular requirements. The
degras used for its composition is totally inoxidizable and gives, apart from
great softness and exceptional fullness, also a particular feel typical for this
chemical. Used on vegetable or mix tan leather, it contributes enormously
to darken the hue when brushing in the shoe factory. Though a mainly
natural oil, BIOXOIL A/100 is quite light fast and very stable at low pH
levels and vegetable tanning bath and electrolytes.

BXR can be utilised without problem on tanning procedures both for
chrome and for vegetable tannage and of course during retannage. When
used during retannage improves the tear strength.
USE
It can be utilised when softness is required with leather that does not
necessitate light fastness.

PROPERTIES
Completely stable in the most severe conditions (tanning and acid
conditions ). BIOXOIL BXZ is not oxidizable and therefore is suitable for the
production of white leather. BIOXOIL BXZ is an oil particularly
recommended for the production of suede ``double face `` leather, giving a
very dry hand. BIOXOIL BXZ is also recommended for furskin production
as it leaves the hair or wool completely grease free, owing to the surfactant
content that has a detergent action on both flesh and fur sides of the skin.
USE
It is important to emulsify the product with water at 40 C. Because at
higher temperatures the products ability to emulsify will decrease.

BIOXOIL C/I is particularly suitable for all those articles that require great
softness, like softy leather, nappa, gloving etc. Using BIOXOIL C/I in
retannage improves tear resistance; the product should be used in a
percentage ranging from 2 to 10% according to required softness of

The latter characteristic allows combination of the product with anionic

BIOXOIL ET cannot be oxidised and can therefore be used for white
leather and pastel shades. BIOXOIL ET markedly increases the tensile
strength of leather, as well as resistance to grain cracking, it can be used (
as is the case with all cationic agents ) both in tanning and in retanning
procedures in the presence of chrome salts or other mineral tanning
agents.
USE
In tanning: 0.3-0.5% on limed weight, to increase tensile strength of the

fresh touch and protect the grain against the action of the vacuum drier as

BIOTAN GNW is a complete syntan agent with similar characteristics to
those of sulphited Quebracho extract, furthermore it is light fast. When
used alone, BIOTAN GNW yields full leather with thick fibres of the purest
white. When added to vegetable tannins, it enhances their penetration and
distribution through the skin cross section. Using BIOTAN GNW on chrome
tanned leather (cattle, sheep or goat ) allows light coloured leather to be
obtained with firm, fine grain with a soft feel, which can be easily dyed
particularly in pastel shades.
USE
In tannage or retannage of vegetable tanned leather or in retannage of
chrome tanned leather in percentages varying from 2 to 8% or more.

of vegetable tanned leather from 2% to 8% on shaved weight. During
tanning in combination with vegetable tanning agent a good formulation is
the following:- 12% Quebracho ATO, 8% mimosa extract, 6% BIOTAN LF.
In this way we can obtain a full hand leather with good dyeing properties
also for pastel shade colour. The product is stable to storage and does not
require particular attention for its use.

BIOTAN G50 is a particular tanning agent which allows the quality of
tanned skin to be considerably improved with simple procedures. If used
alone as a true tanning agent, one obtains yellowish leather with a full
body, tear-resistant, fine grain without the possibility of drawn grain, as is
often the case with aldehydic tanning agents. This product is commonly
used for pretanning either chrome tanned or vegetable tanned skins, as
well as for retanning procedures; chrome tanned skins in pretannage
appear both fuller and softer and the tanning bath is thoroughly exhausted.
BIOTAN G50 is most effective at pH levels ranging from 3.5 to 9, and can
therefore be used during retanning procedures, both before and after
neutralisation.
USE
The product should be diluted in water (at the ratio 1:2) and subsequently
poured into the rotating drum. Dosing depends upon the article. BIOTAN
G50 is also effective in low dosages.

BIOTAN E is a syntan specifically developed for a large and safe range of
uses, for example tannage and retannage of chrome and vegetable tanned

leather BIOTAN E gives a firm, full grain, far from hardening the leather (
as is the case with vegetable tannins ) our product makes the leather
softer. BIOTAN E does not overload the grain and its dispersing action
facilitates penetration of other retanning agents.
USE
For retannage of chrome tanned leather, heavy leathers or full light
leathers, embossed, buffed or full grain leathers alone or in combination
with other anionic synthetic or natural retanning agents. For vegetable
tanned and retanned skins as well as for E.I. tanned leather. Percentage of

BIOTAN CD is a masking agent for chrome baths, used in the tannage it
gives fuller, lighter coloured leather. Its solution are neutral and can be
mixed with all anionic products, as well as with all vegetable and syntan
agents. The particular chemical structure of this product allows chrome
tanned skins to be neutralised and at the same time tanned and filled,
which results in a fuller tighter grain in the finished product. Far from being
rigid, the latter is extremely soft, which is why BIOTAN CD is superior to
any synthetic neutralising agent commonly used. BIOTAN CD also
increases stability to sweating of chrome tanned leather, which is
fundamental for upper leather. In the dyeing of chrome tanned leather with
anionic dyestuff, BIOTAN CD disperses and uniforms the shade without
bleaching too much.
USE
To basify chrome tannage; 1-2% of BIOTAN CD on limed weight. To
neutralise chrome leather: 1-4% of BIOTAN CD (either alone or combined
with other neutralising agents) on shaved weight. For chrome leather

leather, yielding softer and fuller leather with a fine grain and a light uniform
colour. Leathers treated with BIOTAN BN/L also posses excellent
properties for dyeing, fat liquoring and buffing.

Retannage on chrome tanned skins or hides: 2-5%. However, higher
percentages were observed not to jeopardise either quality or fineness of

BIOPLEN LH is a special acrylic resin developed to be used in drums. It is
used especially when great grain firmness is required; infact the
characteristic of this resin is that does not penetrate completely through the
cross section but it stop just under the grain layer fixing itself. Another use
of this products is when we want to produce sides with PULL-UP or greasy
finishing, infact BIOPLEN LH avoid an excessive penetration of the
finishing oil with the consequent saving in quantity of oil and avoiding
flabby leather. BIOPLEN LH is indicated for drum impregnation for
production of splits to be finished normally or by BY-CAST method.
USE
Both on full grain or split 2%-4% on shaved weight after fat-liquoring and
before addition of formic acid. Drumming time varies from 10 to 20 minutes
according degree of penetration required and then is necessary an
acidification to pH 4 to obtain the best result. The product is sensitive to

HOUGHTOFIL RC produces leather extremely full and with a soft feel
,feature really difficult to obtain with similar products, it is compatible with

of masking salt like formate, polyphosphate etc. To improve filling effect
we suggest to add a low quantity of replacement syntan such as our
BIOTAN BNL or BIOTAN CU after 20 minutes of drumming ( Drumming
time must not be too long). HOUGHTOFIL RC is the ideal retanning agent
for nappa and generally soft leather.
USE
After neutralisation 3%-7% on shaved weight of HOUGHTOFIL RC ( one
or two addition ) followed by the fat-liquor and at the end 3%-4% of

PROPERTIES
BIOPLEN V6 is a particular retanning agent derived from stirolmaleic
polymers, yielding exceptionally full vivid leather with extremely elastic
grain. The major advantage one obtains by using BIOPLEN V6 in upper
leather is the elimination or at least the reduction to the bare minimum of
grain cracking. BIOPLEN V6 is mainly used to obtain full, elastic skins. It
does not bleach dyes or affect softness; in fact, the latter is markedly
enhanced.
USE
After fatliquoring, 2 to 5% of BIOPLEN V6 should be used; it is fundamental
to acidify the exhausted fat liquor bath by means of either formic acid or
appropriate syntans

BIOPLEN TM
Acrylic retanning agent
FEATURES
- Viscous , amber coloured liquid.
- Aqueous solution of an acrylic acid derived polymer.

PROPERTIES
BIOPLEN TM though viscous is versatile and can easily be diluted by
adding warm water, the product is acid sensitive and may precipitate at pH
levels below 4. It can be safely employed with tanning agents ( both
synthetic and vegetable ),sulphonated/sulphited fat liquors and any anion
active products: provided pH levels does not decrease below 4. BIOPLEN
TM is light fast and helps uniform dyeing, giving results with only slightest
bleaching effect.
USE
BIOPLEN TM can be used:- For retannage in order to obtain full soft
chrome tanned
leather without changing its character and without
rough grain; - For neutralisation procedures: after at least 20` rotation with
NEUTROPEL C7 or the like, to obtain pH 4.8-5 add 3-5% of BIOPLEN TM
and more neutralising agents until pH reaches required levels. Wash as
usual. By following this procedure one saves a bath, obtaining full, well dye
able leather in subsequent operations. Drumming of at least 30` is
indispensable in order to exhaust the product.

PROPERTIES
BIOPLEN PT400 is compatible with all anionic product therefore can be
used during retannage with syntan or fatliquoring .BIOPLEN PT400
produces leather extremely full and with a soft feel ,feature really difficult to
obtain with similar products.The filling action of this product can be
diminished by means of masking salt like formate, polyphosphate etc.To
improve filling effects we suggest to add a low quantity of replacement
syntan such as our BIOTAN BNL or BIOTAN CU after 20 minutes of
drumming ( Drumming time must not be too long).BIOPLEN PT400 is the
suggest for retanning of nappa and generally soft leather.
USE
After neutralisation 2 to 4% on shaved weight of BIOPLEN PT400 ( one or
two addition ) followed by the fat-liquor and at the end 3%-4% of
replacement syntan.

BIOKOLOR WT is used mainly on retanning of wet-blue, particularly for
production of nubuk and velour because improves considerably the

generally improving also fastness properties.For this reason BIOKOLOR
WT can be used also as a dyeing auxiliary on vegetable tanned leather

BIOKOLOR WT can be used in retanning of velour and nubuk together with
chrome salt. percentages vary from 2% to 3% on shaved weight. As dyeing
auxiliary it is used between the two addition of dyestuff in sadwich dyeing
procedures.

BIOPLEN ATG

PROPERTIES
BIOPLEN ATG is a traditional retanning agent for chrome leather, thereby
yielding full leather with firm grain and excellent light fastness, for which
reason it is also recommended for white or pastel shades. BIOPLEN ATG
can be combined with most commonly available tanning and retanning
agents, both mineral, synthetic and vegetable. In our experience, this
product is particularly effective in retannage with chrome at a pH level of
3.5 to 4.2.
USE
BIOPLEN ATG can be used for any type of leather, although it is
particularly suitable for firm leather, whether full grain or buffed type
nubuck. Percentage of use may range from 3 to 6% or more
.

BIOFYLL FW
Filling agent for wet blue

PROPERTIES
BIOFYLL FW increases the fullness of the skin especially in the empty
parts of the skin such as the belly, flanks etc. Infact BIOFYLL FW acts in a
selective way giving the pelt fullness and a firm grain. Remarkable benefits
have been noticed when BIOFYLL FW is used along with production of
correct grain and split leather improving considerably the buffing properties.
BIOFYLL FW can be used on both white and pastel shades of leather due
to its good light fastness and because it does not affect the colour's shade.
Our experience has shown that it is advisable to use BIOFYLL FW after
dyeing.

Usually together with the fat liquors, with percentages varying from 2 to
8%.

Filling agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
Biofyll VE is an inorganic filler particularly suitable to allow the leather fibre
closing. This characteristic makes it of a particular interest when fine
buffing is required (e.g. suede or nubuk). The Biofyll VE used on chrome
split (also of large dimensions and consequently very open) guarantees a
good buffing and a consequent good closure.
USE
The Biofyll VE is used in a percentage of 4-6% on shaved weight and it is
added after neutralising in a new float at 30C. It is preferable to make a
light pre-fatliquoring in the same float before to add the product. The Biofyll
VE is added in two or more times and has to be followed from a rotation of
4 hours approx. to complete the exhaustion.

PROPERTIES
Biofyll DF joins to the full properties of an organic and inorganic filler, the
retanning and cross-linking properties of an anionic dicyandiamide formaldehyde resin. This perfect joining gives to a single product excellent
properties when we operates on empty leather with falling bellies. Biofyll
DF is particularly suitable for rigid, semi - rigid smooth articles or buffed
articles where fullness and firmness of the grain is needed. The product
can be also used, even if in small percentages, on dry-drumming nappa. to
uniform the belly and the back grain.
USE
Biofyll Df is used, after neutralization, together with the retanning agent in
percentage varying from 2% to 5% o shaved weight according to the final
article. It Is suitable to be used on many articles where good firmness is
required..

PROPERTIES
Biofyll 97 is used as tanning agent for white leather or as a retanning agent
on chrome or vegetable leather.
Biofyll 97 used in tanning gives white leather and with very good
characteristic of lightfastness , with good fullness and excellent glazing
properties.
Biofyll 97 in retannage is used for article as box calf , where is required a
firm grain and hand , as well as for glazed article such as calfskin and
goatskins.
On suede helps to give a fine nappa .
USE
BIOFYLL 97 can be used alone or in conjunction with chrome salt as well
as being anionactive is stable to almost all the auxiliary product such as
syntans , fatliquors , dyestuff etc, used on the treatment of the leather.

AMPHONUTREX JD
Amphoteric fat-liquor
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
Owing to its amphoteric character AMPHONUTREX JD can be used
through a range of pH value ( from 1 to 10 ). Therefore AMPHONUTREX
JD is the ideal fat liquor for tanning and retanning. A better penetration of
the retanning agent is achieved using AMPHONUTREX JD during
retanning. AMPHONUTREX JD used on low quantity (1-2% in oil mixture)
gives stable emulsion improving fatliquoring efficiency.
USE
AMPHONUTREX JD can be used in the presence of neutral salt, mineral
tanning agent, vegetable tanning agent, syntans and in any pH value
without affecting the fatliquoring efficiency: - During tanning 0,5-1% on pelt
weight. - During usual fatliquoring from 1 to 4% on shaved weight

BIOKAL CSF
Complex activated masking agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL CSF is a complexed masking agent , used to increase fullness of
the wet-blue without influencing the following operation , as dyeing and
uniformity of colour.
The increased fullness can be appreciated with a less decreasing of
substance thickness on the retanned wet-blue.BIOKAL CSF allows better
exhaustion of the chrome salts during tanning due to its masking action.
USE
BIOKAL CSF can be used ,both between the addition of chrome salts or
after basification. In this case we will produce a wet-blue with a paler
colour. Percentages vary from 0.5% to 1-1.5% , it can be used in powder
form without danger of spoils. When it is used together our basifying agent
BIOKAL BF we suggest to use it when water is added , to increase float,
after about 3 hours of drumming from the addition of chrome salts and
basifying agent, then further rotation of 3-5 hours.

BIOBASE CRO
Basifying agent

PROPERTIES
BiOBASE CRO is a basifying agent formed by particularly structured
organic and inorganic alkali that allows to obtain a gradually increase of pH
of the tanning float avoiding high pH peak normally produced with other
basifying agent. That gives leather with a good distribution of chrome in
section, fine grain and a better reaction to further tanning processes,
particularly to dyeing. it distinguishes itself by its steady quality that makes
it a reliable and easy to use product.
USE
We suggest the use of this product at the end of tanning process in
quantity variable from 0,35% to 0,5% depending on quantity of chrome and
pH value of the pickle float.
To obtain its complete exhaustion we suggest to finish the tanning process
at a temperature of 40/25C.

CROMOSINT GBF
Self basifying tanning agent

PROPERTIES
Cromosint GBF is a new concept basifying agent that , thanks to the
masking and chrome exaution properties , his used in all chrome tannage

tannage.
USE
Cromosint GBF is used as the below suggestion:

ECOPEL B/2 is a mixture of aliphatic Dicarboxylic acid in powder form with
masking action. ECOPEL B/2 works in combination with strong acid ,
producing readily soluble calcium salt , improving firmness of grain.
ECOPEL B/2 improves the reactivity of the collagen with mineral salt ,
therefore its yield better fixation ,increasing fullness of the treated pelt.

USE
ECOPEL B/2 can be used at the end of deliming operation, so that we can
eliminate at its best insoluble calcium salts, or during pickling before the
addition of inorganic acid. The quantity of use vary from 0.2%-1%
calculated on pelt weight.

Basifying agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
Born from the exigency to have a highly qualified and with specific
chemical physical properties basifying agent for chrome tannage,
BIOBASE is the result of deeply researches made in our laboratories. The
detailed selection of raw materials and the particular dosage of its
components put BIOBASE amongst the "elite" chemicals of our range.
This product, thanks to its new chemical structural conception, performs a
gentle and constant basifying action of chrome float without submitting
the leather to anomalous sudden changes of pH which will result harmful
to the obtaining of an optimum wet blue. By using BIOBASE we will
obtain a clear tannage with a reasonable smooth grain and a better
exhaustion of tanning float.
USE
The method of use is very easy: at beginning basification it is introduced in
the drum 20-30% water at 35C approx., upon a rotation of 5-10 it is
added 10% on chrome weight of BIOBASE powder form, with a further
rotation of 7-8 hours. Final pH of float, at standard conditions of use, will be
3.6-6.8.

Pretanning agent for vegetable tannage

PROPERTIES
BIOTAN PWS is a pretanning agent recommended for production of
vegetable leather for leathergoods belt etc. Using BIOTAN PWS as
pretanning agent, the fibres of the collagen are prepared to the following
tannage, improving distribution , penetration and avoiding over tannage of
the grain. BIOTAN PWS can be used also as pretanning agent to prepare
the leather to shave before the vegetable tannage itself. Due to the strong
dispersing action ,BIOTAN PWS ,can be used with success also in
retanning as dispersing agent for syntans or vegetable extracts.
USE
As pretanning agent 2 to 4% on pelt weight on the pickle float. If necessary
the pelts can be sammed and shaved after pretanning.

BIOTAN PSS is a pretanning agent recommended for production of sole

tannage of the grain. It also prevent problem due to a poor deliming of
same area of the pelt

BIOTAN GL
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOTAN GL is stable to all mineral salts, therefore it can be used during
chrome tanning to improve the fullness and the physical resistance of the
leather. BIOTAN GL can react with vegetable tanning agent or phenol
based syntan therefore it can be used as a pretanning agent only
improving penetration and fixation of the vegetable tanning agent. Used
alone BIOTAN GL produce a full and yellow leather with a temperature of
gelatinization higher of 80c When used during retannage on wet blue
BIOTAN GL produce a softer and fuller leather , on vegetable leather it
imparts good softness and improves tear resistance.
USE
Tanning: 0.5-1.5% on pelt weight together with chrome or during pickle
when the pH is lower than 3.
Retanning: 1-4% depending upon final article.
Pretanning for vegetable tanning: 1-2% on pelt weight after a pickle to pH
between 3 to 3.5 ,after two/three hours of running add the vegetable
tanning agent either in new float or the same of the pretanning

BIOSINT ANT/30
Antimould agent
FEATURES

PROPERTIES
BIOSINT ANT/30 offers a wide spectrum of biocide activity on chrome or
vegetable tanned leather. The water content of the wet blue or vegetable
tanned pelt and environmental condition, such as temperature and
humidity , easy to be found in some country, are conditions favourable to
developing of moulds that jeopardise the material and its value, for this
reason , is necessary to use a valuable anti moulds agent , more important
when the wet-blue must be exported. BIOSINT ANT/30 allows a long time
preservation with low toxicity against warm blood animals. BIOSINT
ANT/30 does not contain phenol derivatives.
USE
During pickling ; 1 hour after the last addition of acid.
During chrome tannage just after the first chrome addition. Percentages
range from 0.05% to 1,5% on pelt weight depending different factor such
as content of natural fats, thickness, required time of preservation ,
therefore they can increase or decrease. Generally we suggest to use
0.15% on pelt weight of BIOSINT ANT/30 when 6 months of preservation is
required on wet-blue. For further information on the matter , please contact
our technical staff.

Biokal MS 24 is a basifying agent for chrome tanning, that gives leather
with a good distribution of chrome in section, fine grain and a better
reaction to further tanning processes, particularly to dyeing. it distinguishes
itself by its steady quality that makes it a reliable and easy to use product.
USE
We suggest the use of this product combined with masking agents of
chrome and, if possible, added in two times from the feeding tank, with
moving drum.
To obtain its complete exhaustion we suggest to finish the tanning process
at a temperature of 40/45C.

BIOKAL MA
Complex activated masking agent
FEATURES
- Mixture of carbonic acids and salts (both organic and inorganic).

PROPERTIES
BIOKAL MA is a masking agent for chrome tannage, whose particular
composition yields considerable chrome masking complexes through the
whole section of the skin. Such chemical activity results in a marked skin
fullness which, in the case of splits, also yields increased thickness of the
final product. Furthermore, BIOKAL MA yields light coloured skins the
finest grain.
USE
BIOKAL MA can be used both during the pickling and between two
subsequent chrome additions in both cases it should be diluted with
lukewarm water and poured into the rotating drum.

BIOKAL KL
Sequestering agent of iron ions
FEATURES
PROPERTIES
BIOKAL KL is a liquid sequestering iron ions which (being easy to use and
far from expensive) is a favourite with tanneries. The product prevents the
formation of iron stains during tanning procedures; it is particularly effective
at acid pH levels.
USE
Excellent results can be obtained by adding 0.15-0.3% (pelt weight) of
BIOKAL KL to the pickle.
