Recognize the strengths and limitations of various types of sources that can be used for research.
Recognize the strengths and limitations of facts, statistics, examples, testimony, and narratives in substantiating
claims.

Schwartzman, Fundamentals of Oral Communication (Third Edition), 2014 Textbook/Instruction Manual, UNCG

Organize the body of an oral presentation using one or more specific structural patterns.
Recognize the implications of organizational principles for structuring presentations.
Properly construct and use draft outlines, formal outlines, and speakers keyword outlines.

Key elements of introductions, key elements of conclusions, proper outline construction (formal and keyword) how to
develop a purpose statement and thesis statement, different patterns of organization (prioritize: chronological, topical,
motivated sequence, causal, problem-solution)

journalist, topical). After meeting with groups, students will present findings
