THE BRIEF

Miskin Arts have hereby engaged you as a Graphic Designer to create a

promotional pack! It will be used in an upcoming UK launch of a brand new
band/ artist. You should make a minimum of 3 connected promotional items
with logo, such as CD cover, poster, flyer, T-shirt print, banner etc.
The music genre is up to you in this case, but that would not normally be the case in a real brief
In the Pitch, you will need to;
- explain what kind of musical act you are promoting, style, genre, target audience
- present your logo options with alternatives
- present your connected design outcomes in correct format and ready for print files
- present alternative design outcomes which needs to be completely different
- explain the fonts you have used for the album title and why
- present all the designs in your Tumblr blog
The aim of this brief is to enable you to work with Graphic Design Briefs
In your sketch book you need to show evidence of the work shop based recordings you carry out each
week where you learn how to draw and paint, using lots of graphic design, studio techniques and tools by
working from Primary and Secondary observations and sources. Graphic Design is a creative process that
combines Art and Technology to communicate ideas. The communication should convey a message
from a client to a particular audience. The purpose of Graphic Design is to promote or sell something or
inform the viewers of a specific message. Designers enjoy a range of techniques and mixed sources to
achieve this. Being a designer is a huge responsibility. If the design flops it could have an incredibly
negative affect on the client or whoever is behind investing in the promotional campaign that you are
making the graphics for! This is why understanding the entirety of the brief is so important.

Miskin Arts
During the course of this project you will explore even more different ways of studying the human body,
faces and details as well as drawing and painting objects, and places and nature itself. Techniques will be
demonstrated through workshop inductions. You will be expected to produce a selection of
experimental work which eventually will be leading to final Graphic Design outcomes relating to the
Brief. This project encourages you to be curious about and experiment with a wide variety of materials,
tools and techniques including the use of digital software and hardware. You become more aware of the
use of formal elements and use of analysis of artists work by using correct industry terminology. You
continue to practice how to plan, develop and evaluate your work in relations to your own productions.
Annotations along the way are the evidence proving how well you understand the process. Always show
diversity in your ideas, and a variety of skills gained throughout
It is strongly suggested to visit exhibitions and art galleries during this project to generate great sources of
research evidence through your developments. You need to research and collect images from
secondary sources such as books and the Internet. Record these and your responses in your
sketchbook. Collect flyers, posters and examples of promotional material you have picked up out and
about.
Professional Practice: Please be aware that you will be putting professional practice into action within
Miskin Arts, which is a professional environment in which you are effectively being given the opportunity to
publicly test your skills and gain creditable industrial experience.

What you need to do:
1: Be able to use appropriate graphic design materials, equipment and techniques
This is work shop based studies, where you will learn about the materials, techniques and processes
applicable to graphic design. You will explore of traditional studio graphic materials and techniques as well
as digital techniques, mostly by using Photo Shop and supplementing hardware, such as camera, scanners
etc. (Unit 7, P1, M1, D1)
2: Write an analysis of the graphic design brief and carry out relevant research.
Use research skills to influence the development of your ideas. Use spider diagrams and thumbnail
sketches to communicate different ideas based on your exploration and experimenting that you carry out by
using a range of primary and secondary sources. Along the way you need to collect information, such as
use of the internet, photographs, postcards, leaflets/posters, notes and sketches.
Its important to show that you can use a wide range of research and recording as a rich resource for the
development of your ideas. You should use critical studies of artists work as a way of learning how to carry
out Graphic Design the way it is done in the industry.
Show how you use creative thinking and a selection processes in response to a brief. (Unit 07, P2, M2, D2)
3: Develop ideas that meet the requirements of the brief, through the use of specialist materials,
equipment and techniques Here you should develop ideas that meet the requirements of the brief
through the use of materials, techniques and processes. Making notes and define. Develop your ideas.
Mood boards can be useful here, initial ideas and alternative ideas showing your design development.
Evidence your use of specialist materials and techniques taught to you in your workshop sessions. Master
these skills ready for your interim assessment period, where you will present to your tutor as individuals.
Evaluate your final products by using correct technical terms. (Unit 07, P3, M3, D3, P4, M4, D4)
