PAN (PERMANENT ACCOUNT NUMBER) The first and

foremost requirement soon after Incorporation of a Company
is to obtain a PAN number and PAN Card from the Income
Tax Department. The PAN Number and Card provide the
base for all other Registrations as well as for opening the
Bank Account of the Company

TAN (TAX ACCOUNT NUMBER) The TAN number is to be

obtained from the Income Tax Department this is required to
be quoted in all the TDS related documentations (like deposit
of TDS into the Bank Account, filing of E TDS returns,
issuance of Form 16 / 16A, etc.).
The TAN can be applied for soon after the PAN Number is
allotted

REGISTRATION UNDER THE SHOPS & ESTABLISHMENT

ACT This is an important State level compliance and it is
necessary for all business establishments, with or without
employees, to register under this Act. This registration can be
taken up as soon as the PAN number is allotted and the PAN
Card is received

REGISTRATION WITH THE PROFESSIONAL TAX

DEPARTMENT This Registration is required to be done
within a month of Incorporation, after receipt of the PAN Card.
Two Registrations are required, one as the Employer, and the
other one for the Employees

SERVICE TAX REGISTRATION Are you into the business

of providing any Services and not in trading (including Import
/ Export) of goods? If yes, then you need to apply for the
Service Tax Registration, unless you do not envision an
annual gross turnover in excess of Rs. ONE Million
(10,00,000)

VAT & CST REGISTRATION If you are a trader (including

import and export) of goods, this registration is a MUST.
Without having VAT registration, the business cannot perform
any trading functions. The business has to be located in a
commercial place, to be eligible for VAT registration

IMPORT EXPORT CODE No Export from or Import into

the country can be made without obtaining the Import
Export Code (IEC, in short). It is a unique 10 digit code issued
by the DGFT Director General of Foreign Trade. To apply
for this IEC, the business must have the PAN Card and also
should have opened its Current Account with a Bank

REGISTRATION UNDER MICRO, SMALL & MEDIUM

ENTERPRISES ACT (MSME) This registration is subject to
the business satisfying certain terms and conditions, so that it
qualifies as a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise. A host of
advantages are available for businesses registered under this
Act. Obtaining the PAN Card is a must for initiating this
registration

EMPLOYEES STATE INSURANCE (ESI) & PROVIDENT

FUND (PF) registration is applicable for all business
organisations having 10 (TEN) or more employees. ESI
covers employees having a monthly salary of Rs. 15000/- or
less. PF registration is mandatory if your establishment
employs 20 or more persons
