HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE PIPELINE

&
The Napa Valley College
PUENTE Program and the
LEGACY Youth Project have
teamed up to form a high
school to college pipeline in our
Napa Valley. PUENTE is a
California state wide program
and its mission is to increase
the number of educationally
underrepresented students in
four-year colleges and
universities.
LEGACY and Puente Youth at Napa Valley College

During the 2014 Spring

semester, the PUENTE team visited the LEGACY
classroom as guest speakers and tutors to help
our seniors apply to college. PUENTE also hosted
our LEGACY youth on a Napa Valley College tour
and during spring break the PUENTE Club and
LEGACY Youth Project took a tour of the UCLA
college campus during our annual field trip to
Los Angeles. The partnership between PUENTE
and LEGACY has created a real home-grown high
school to college pipeline for our Napa Valley.

Tutoring & Mentoring Increases

Academic Performance & Educational
Success!!
A major component to the LEGACY Youth Project is our
Academic Achievement. One way we make this happen is
through the support and leadership from our Tutors/Mentors,
a.k.a Young Community Leaders. Each week the LEGACY
class is visited by 8 Napa Valley College students, 4 community
professionals and 4 Vintage High School students who all
volunteer their time to support the academic
success of our LEGACY
students.
One great
outcome to the tutoring
experience is the
relationships our
LEGACY students build
with the Young
Community Leaders,
transforming academic
support into a mentorship
relationship! With the
support of our tutors, 75%
of our students have
increased their Grade
Point Averages since joining the LEGACY Youth Project!

Day 2 on our Los Angeles Field

Trip we spent the entire day at
Homeboy Industries. Since the
launching of the LEGACY
Youth Project in 2013 we have
forged a very special
relationship with Homeboy
Industries of Los Angeles. Like
the LEGACY Youth Project,
Homeboy Industries is
dedicated to supporting its
members toward a life of
positive transformation. Our
youth had the opportunity to
eat at Homegirl Cafe, take a
tour of Homeboy Industries
and engage in dialogue with
many of its members. Some
of our youth participated in
a live workshop. We also
participated in an art
workshop with Homeboy
Industries that was led by
Fabian Debora. He is the
Executive Director of
Latino Producers Action
Network. We are blessed to
have this amazing
relationship with Homeboy
Industries and look forward
to a continued partnership.

FAMILY & COMMUNITY

Family Night!

The LEGACY Youth Project is committed to community

building and cultivating positive, healthy, collaborative and
meaningful relationships with our families and community.
This spring semester we engaged with our community in
numerous ways. Our families come first as we held two Family/
Parent nights, culminating in our annual Honoring our
Families and Students Night. In addition, we were very active
in our Napa Valley community from working with community
partner Rancho Gordo in our youth job skill development
internship program, having many visitors visit the LEGACY
headquarters, going live on local Napa TV on the N.A.P.A
Show, and much more. We are grateful for the support of our
families and community!

LEADERSHIP

One of our components to the LEGACY Youth Project is

our Life Skills and Leadership Development. Our youth get
many opportunities in the class room and community to
practice and develop their leadership skills. This semester
we presented to community funders, the Napa County Youth
Violence and Gang Commission, LEGACY new membership orientation, middle school parents,
Senior graduation projects and much more. In addition, our youth are given opportunities to learn
life skills and ways that will equip them with the tools to be successful in high school and beyond.
