Lesson Objective(s):
Students will:
Explain the importance and major issues of the 1964 presidential election
I will give verbal feedback to students based on their answers to questions during the whole class
discussions. If students do not give all of the answers that I am looking for, then I will add
additional possible answers. I will praise all genuine attempts to answer in order to encourage
future participation. When students are working independently and in groups, I will walk around
the room to monitor their work. I will ask them how they are doing and I will make sure that they
are staying on task and making progress. I will walk around the room throughout the entire
period and I will check if the students need any help or have any questions. I will not be giving
any written feedback on this particular day. When they turn in their final projects, I will give
them written feedback.
Review the Activity:
Students will have eight minutes to write an informal paragraph answering the following
question, using their notes. What do you feel are the three most important things to remember
about the years 1963-1964? Why were these years so critical to the larger theme of the Cold War
that we have been discussing? Volunteers will share their answers for the remainder of the class.
Method of Assessment:
The final assessment of todays objectives will be next week when I get to see their final project.
How they answer questions in class will give me some measurement of what they have learned.
When I walk around during group and individual work, I will be able to assess how they well
they are comprehending the material.
