ABSTRACT: The increased incidence of infections acquired in both community and especially in
the hospital environment involving the Staphylococcus genus is extremely worrying, given their high
frequency and pathogenicity, affecting both immunocompromised as healthy individuals. The
emergence of these resistant to conventional antimicrobial microrganisms generated a growing
interest in the study of bioactive substances . the antibacterial compounds isolated from soil bacteria
are a promising source of new therapies, and the bacteria Bacillus a leading producer of substances
with antimicrobial activity, especially in the production of peptides and enzymes. The present study
aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of bioactive substances produced by bacteria of the
genus Bacillus isolated from soil samples of Rio Pitimbu / RN against Staphylococcus spp. The results
revealed that 25 of the 15 isolates showed antimicrobial activity in varying magnitudes. Compared the
antibacterial activity of the strains on the bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus, it was observed that
the bacteria of the genus Bacillus (P09) showed higher antimicrobial activity, being able to inhibit
bacteria of clinical interest and reference, highlighting the strain of S. aureus MRSA. Thus, further
studies are needed for the characterization and identification of the substance shall, for that might be
used as probable therapeutic tool in the treatment of infections caused by resistant and emerging
pathogens.

teraputicos vigentes.
