Installations, Cleaning and Reinstallation manual for Slip Ring Body

Installation
Check for any Physical Damage before Installation. Check if there is any short Circuit with multimeter.
While Installation, the upper part of the SRB marked TOP (Refer Figure - 1) on Flange, should be kept on top
only. This will allow the carbon dust to collect on the HV Insulation paper only and avoid other parts of the
SRB.
If the carbon dust is not collected in the HV Insulation paper, it may spread all over the SRB inside and Short
Circuit may happen after some time when the SRB is operational.

to be kept upright during SRB
installation.

Rest of the installation, fixing, and connecting will be remain the same as per your SRB installation
procedure.

Maintenance & Servicing of SRB

The SRB should be checked and cleaned once every 3 months as part of general servicing.
Carbon Dust collects in the insulation paper, which also acts as a dust collector. This will need to be removed
every 3 months to ensure no short circuits within the SRB.

Safety Instructions:

Instructions for cleaning the device (Refer Figure - 2)

1. Opening the unit
a. Open the Cover of SRB by opening the 3 M6 screws at the top of the SRB Cover.
b. Cut the Cable Tie of Insulation Paper.
c. Remove the insulation Paper from the unit.

2. Cleaning the unit

a. Upon opening the unit, dust and carbon powder will be seen in the SRB.
b. Clean the Insulation Paper and unit with a vacuum cleaner. For harder cleaning, use a paint
brush to dislodge the dust prior to using vacuum cleaner.
c. Carry out Visual Inspection to check for the following : Any wear and tear of the unit not seen during regular operations
Any visible damage to the unit
Incorrect position of the cables or copper braids
d. Carry out correction to the device in case of any issues visible in visual inspection

3. Carbon Brush Checking

a. Check the carbon brushes for any breakage or cracks. If any such ruptures are found, replace
immediately.
b. All carbon brushes are marked with the condemning line. Check whether the brushes have
been worn down up to the Condemning line.
c. If the brush has crossed, or reached, or is very close to the condemning line, then change the
carbon brush immediately.
d. For small brushes, also check if they are physically close to the holder arm, rings or ring
partition spacers. If so, replace them immediately.
e. To remove the carbon brush for the big holders, simply unscrew the 2 M4 x 10mm brass
screws on the carbon brush with a small screw driver.
f. Lift up the arm of the brush holder and take out the brush.
g. Replace with a new carbon brush by sliding it in, keep the Condemning Mark outwards so
that it is visible to be checked during the later service periods.
h. Check the brass spring washer and screws. If the washer is warped or not proper, or the
screw is not proper, replace them as well. Use M4 x 10mm brass screws only.
i. While inserting the screw in carbon brush and tightening the screw, be gentle and do not
force cross threading this may damage the carbon brush.
j. While inserting the screw with a screw driver, let the spring washer be flat, then apply slow
extra force to ensure that the screw is fully tight.
k. Overtight screw may cause damage to the brush.
l. For small brush replacement, loosen the single screw on the holder, slide the brush out by
lifting the holder arm, replace with a new brush, and tighten the same screw to its place.
Ensure that the same procedure is followed while tightening as for big brushes.

4. Closing the unit

a. Close the unit in reverse order of opening the unit.
b. Fix the Insulation Paper with new cable ties on the unit (Refer - Figure 3). Ensure that the
paper is secured in the correct position. It should not be touching the outer rotating part of
the SRB Cover.
c. Close the SRB Cover, push at the end to hold the bottom plate with the rubber ring to
completely seal the SRB.

To Replace Encoder
1. Cut wire close to the Encoder unit and remove the Encoder, replace with new encoder and connect
with the Male/Female connector.
2. If required, solder the new Male/Female connectors.
