Weekly Headlines
Here one day - gone the next
Disaster hit Jerrabomberra Rotary last Tuesday (5 May) when the new gazebo that had been so proudly
displayed at the Canberra International Music Festival was literally blown away. As reported in last weeks
Jerraganda the new gazebo was making its first appearance. Set up on Saturday 2 May the gazebo was
attached to the Music Festivals Marquee and providing the base for Jerra Rotarys provision of catering
to the Music Festival patrons. Unfortunately after only three days of operation the high winds on Tuesday
morning lifted the gazebo and tore it away from the main Marquee. One observer commented it was
like a kite. Once airborne the gazebo then blew into the adjacent car park and received significant
damage in the process to both the frame and the canvas cover. The damages are serious and appear
uneconomical to repair said President Paul on inspecting the tangled remains of the gazebo, looks
like we will be talking to the insurance people on this one. Fortunately the car park was empty at the time
so the damage was limited to the gazebo.
Unfortunately the demise of the gazebo also meant the club had to withdraw from the remaining 3 days
of its week-long commitment to the Music Festival.
Enjoy.

Visioning Pesentation
PP Paul put on his District hat as District Chair for Club Visioning
and provided members with a presentation on what Club
Visioning is and the potential benefits to clubs who leverage this
free District service. It may not be for all clubs, but it is a tried and tested facilitation process that
enabales clubs to gain a consensus on what their future should look like and how they might get
there.
PP Pauls presentation briefly covered the history of the Rotary Vision Facilitation Process and how
clubs can leverage the District Visioning team to help them define a shared commitment, provide
long-term direction, create a framework to establish both long and short term goals and objectives, and optimize use of resources.
Basically it gets everyone rowing in the same direction towards a commonly agreed destination.
Paul explained that if the club were to decide to have a visioning session it would require setting aside a four hour time slot, usually
at the weekend, and inviting the District Facilitation team to run the session with as many members of the club as possible in
attendance. As Paul Harris once said Rotary is not an organization for retrospection. It is rather one whose worth and purpose
lie in future activity rather than past performance. The District Visioning Process help clubs define their future activity.
Joker Finally there was a joker draw and the lucky ticket went to PP Paul, who took care to draw out the King of Hearts
and ensure the Joker survived to grow in value. The Treasurer was asked the all-important question, but was unable to
state with any accuracy what the current value of the Joker pool is. Some people reckon at least half a pair of shoes.
Fines Lizzy conducted a short fines session.

Jerraganda editorial staff managed to generate some photos of Hannah this week. The winter has well and truly arrived with temperatures
hovering around the 13 degree centigrade maximum and the wind chill factor making it feel about 6 degrees. However despite the weather,
Hannah took a trip up to the Botanical Gardens and the Arboretum last weekend. The following photos tell a little of the story.

OUR HISTORY
In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley,
John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentoring the development of the new club. (Peter Jarvis went
on to become our Charter President).
Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 26
members.
Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Storethe venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the
Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years, and we now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30
pm).
(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club Newsletter and a design for the Club banner. There were some
good and some not so good suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name Jerraganda and David Stevens was the successful
designer of our club banner. The design incorporated a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate adjacent to the
Community Centre. Both the Jerraganda and the Club logo have evolved to keep pace with modern times.
We have always been, and continue to be, a vibrant and fun loving club providing valued community service, both locally and internationally. Our
motto is,
