All this is done with the aim of bridging the gap between the
police and the community. In fighting crime, the conventional
means to policing is not enough to eliminate the criminal
elements within our communities. As such, we embarked on the
sensitisation drive to educate the members, to cooperate with
the security forces, to come up and join hands in fighting crime.

It is very important for the police and the public to work
together because it is the only way we can realize development
and our people can take advantage of the stability to improve
their business and life. What matters most in life is security and if
you are not safe there is no life and no one will be happy or even
conduct his business. Therefore it is very important for the public,
the Somali police and AMISOM police to work together and we as
the district administration are ready and the Hodan community is
also ready to work with the Somali police and brothers AMISOM
police in order to realize development and live happily
thereafter.

relations between the population, the administration and the
police. We are now working towards improving public civic
education in order to improve our work and security through
partnership between the public, administration and AMISOM
police and Somali police. The situation is improving and we are
working well together.

Somali Police and AMISOM Police build community policing partnerships in
Mogadishu

MOGADISHU - Community policing sensitization campaigns continue in earnest

across all districts in Mogadishu. The Somali Police Force (SPF) and the Police
component of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), on Sunday held a
meeting with residents of Hodan district, where ideas on how to keep the district safe
were shared.
The sensitisation meetings are part of an ongoing community policing initiative
between Somali Police Force and AMISOM. Under the initiative, AMISOM Police,
the SPF and the District administration interact and discuss security concerns with the
local communities. In these meetings, homegrown solutions to crime and related
concerns are discussed.
The AMISOM Police Public Information Officer, Edwin Mugera said the initiative is
aimed at building public trust in law enforcement agencies.
All this is done with the aim of bridging the gap between the police and the
community. In fighting crime, the conventional means to policing is not enough to
eliminate the criminal elements within our communities. As such, we embarked on the
sensitization drive to educate the members, to cooperate with the security forces, to
come up and join hands in fighting crime, he said.

During the meeting attended by at least 150 local residents of Hodan district,
partnership between residents and police was discussed.
Hodan Deputy District Commissioner in charge of Social Affairs Mahamud Ali
Hassan said, It is very important for the police and the public to work together
because it is the only way we can realize development and our people can take
advantage of the stability to improve their business and life. What matters most in life
is security. If you are not safe there is no life. No one will be happy or even conduct
business. Therefore it is important for the public, Somali police and AMISOM police
to work together. The district administration and community are ready to work with
the Somali police and our brothers AMISOM police to realize development and live
happily.

The Police Commander of Hodan District Abdirahman Osman Koronto added, Our
working relationship with AMISOM Police is good. They have put in a lot of time and
effort to help us. We have worked hard at improving relations with the population, the
administration and Police. We are now working to improve civic education in order to
improve our work and security through partnership with the public, administration
AMISOM police and Somali police. The situation is improving.
This meeting follows a similar one held in Warta Nabadda district last week. The
community policing initiatives will continue in other district across the month of May.
