Pretty prosaic stuff for Dylan – from his intensely messianic album Infidels. Mark 12:35-37 (New
International Version)

35While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, "How is it that the teachers of the law say that
the Christ[a] is the son of David? 36David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:

" 'The Lord said to my Lord:

"Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
under your feet." '[b] 37David himself calls him 'Lord.' How then can he be his son?"
The large crowd listened to him with delight.

And it is a delight to hear John Bryant speak; crowds flock to listen.

In 2004 John Bryant, Professor of Molecular & Cell Biology at Exeter university UK and places
scattered around the US, and sometime Chair of Christians in Science until 2007, told me in an
informal 'interview', really a chat, about evolution and Dylan (without intertwining them) that one of
his favourite songs on Bob Dylan's Infidels (1983) is Dont Fall Apart on Me Tonight. This is ironic
for two reasons: one, John describes himself as a Dylanologist, for example possessing world-
leading Dylanologist Michael Gray's Song & Dance Man III (2000); two, Gray hates that song,
possibly most of all the Infidels songs he pours scorn on – 'with the marvellous exception of
Jokerman', the outstanding opening track of the album. John strongly disagrees with Gray's thesis
that the Jokerman is Dylan (although 'technically' Gray actually sees him as a shifting Dylan-
Christ).

Dont Fall Apart on Me Tonight is the closing track, and perhaps the inverse of Jokerman's musical
and lyrical greatness. But John likes it.

In addition to standing in critical antithesis to Gray, John, as professional proponent-cum-spin

doctor of Mitochondrial Eve theory aka Out of Africa working on the levee night and day, stands in
sharp antithesis, in turn, this time theologically at least, to Bob Dylan, who is hardly a scientist. In a
conversation with me in August 2004 he said,
'Well, you see we came out of Africa 200,000 years ago.'
While this may be in accord, rather cahoots, with the uniformitarian premises of the founding
fathers of modern geology – 'no vestige of a Beginning, no prospect of an End' (Hutton), time
frame-wise it is incompatible with any notion of salvation history within what Dylan calls the
messianic complex – the Judaeo-Christian spectrum if you like. Moreover, it leaves a literal Second
Coming of Christ to wind up human history in starkly asymmetrical relationship with the
'evolutionary creationist' account, if that is what it is, of the Beginning. Amoeba to Apocalypse?
Don't Fall Apart on Me Tonight. On who? And the prequel to the Second Coming, the resurrection-
ascension, implies a 3-tier universe with a flat earth, the one Rudolf Bultmann was supposed to
have demythologized in Jesus Christ & Mythology in the last century. This kind of asymmetry,
along with death before sin, an inversion of the Pauline gospel, does not seem to bother Christians
in Science at all. As for me, I founded Messianic Agnostics for Adam a long time ago. Scott Cohen
interviewed Dylan for Spin magazine in 1985; google this for more. 'What's the messianic
complex?'
All that exists is spirit, before, now and forever more. The messianic thing has to do with this world, the flesh
world, and you got to pass through this to get to that. The messianic thing has to do with the world of
mankind, like it is. This world is scheduled to go for 7,000 years. Six thousand years of this, where man has
his way, and 1,000 years when God has His way. Just like a week. Six days work, one day rest. The last
thousand years is called the Messianic Age. Messiah will rule.

Regardless of the cause, evolutionists are most concerned about the effect of a faster mutation rate. For
example, researchers have calculated that “mitochondrial Eve” - the woman whose mtDNA was ancestral to
that in all living people - lived 100,000 to 200,000 years ago in Africa. Using the new clock, she would be a
mere 6000 years old. Of course nobody thinks that is the case.

M F Unger, in Demons in the World Today p 167, puts it like this:

36). Then their spiritual blindness shall be lifted and they shall be delivered from the demonic delusion that
has rested upon them (Matthew 12:43-45) since they recklessly cried, “His blood be on us, and on our
children” (Matthew 27:25).
