Formation of the opening repertoire. New debut.

Many players at some stage in his career come to a conclusion about the need to expand or
change debut repertoire. This may be due to a change of style and the general concept of games,
fashion, the desire to get away from the hackneyed position, the influence of other players, etc.
etc. You can try to remember Kramnik to go to the camp "staroindiytsev" or something like
Yusupov began to play open Spanish party after reading comments on the Karpov-Savon.
Even 15 years ago, the main question that solved chess - how to find information on debut. Now
it is necessary to solve the inverse problem: how not to drown in a stream of parties and analysis
offering Chess Base and Sahovski Informator. The recipe for success has remained unchanged to
this day: it is necessary to study the party of strong grandmasters playing consistently and
successfully selected or the system's debut. It is not necessary that your "leader" was 2700 - is
simply a strong grandmaster, whose game you respect and understanding that you trust.
The second issue relates to the fact that immediately explore all options selected system if it is
quite voluminous, it is simply impossible. It is very difficult, for example, to start in the King's
Indian or black Grunfeld - openings in which White has a wide selection of different
development schemes, from complications of the endgame "in the two results." How to be in this
case? Play solid "side" options is possible, but up to a point: then just begin to catch and beat options on the curves and curves are called. Moreover, in this case, you can not approach the
game in principle, the "high" system, and then it is unclear why it was generally start learning a
new debut. Recommendations can be given as follows. First, try to use all your previous
experience and find options positions with a similar structure and design of the game. It is even
possible that you can from the "new" debut switch to "old", the debut of the familiar. Second try to combine the use of fashion, policy options with the "waste" into the side of the system.
Also, try to choose the position of both acute and quiet associated with early transition to the
endgame - do not forget that the debut debut, and you need to seek universality (remember how
Kasparov paid dearly, "forgot how to" play the endgame).
Talking about the need for "his theory," as he called her butler, too. Clearly, if you consider
yourself a creative thinking chess player and a person, then you have on each issue to be my
opinion.

Now I try to illustrate all of the above by example. I'll talk about how to start to learn and apply
the French defense.
Playing White lifetime 1.e4, many times I have fought against the French defense, and, of
course, something that it has studied. It is clear that this experience helps a lot - "a hand" you are
informed, you know, in some systems, the white crush and public practice shows equality.
However, what it seemed futile white or risky, is not always a pleasure to play and black: for
example, the position of a whisker, where black should patiently to equalize the game, and white
try to "no spill" a "plus". If I have a sharp and risky style, such a game is not suitable for any one

color. However, this experience is very useful.

Another concomitant is that in my "black" repertoire was the transition from the Sicilian defense
of the French, for example in the 1.e4 c5 2.s3 e6 1.e4 c5 or 2.Nf3 e6 3.d3. Here, I have had
enough experience, both practical and theoretical.
Next, I'll show you some of the options that apply, I hope that this will not only demonstrate my
approach to the opening, but also give some useful information on the theory of the French
defense. But first, a list of references, which I enjoyed (and use).
1. New In Chess Yearbooks. Compilations of theoretical papers give a lot of relevant
information. It was also a good article Ulybina out "theory" in the room 25. Though it was long
ago, but there are a lot of interesting things.
2. The Complete French (Lev Psakhis). Book Psakhis of British theoretical series - one of the
best books on the French. Not by chance my friend GM Peter Kiriakov carries it with him all the
tournaments.
3. C05-06 (Bareev). Monograph Bareeva system 3.Nd2 written as cool.
4. Sahovski Informator. Well, that's understandable. Although I no longer buy "whistleblowers",
it is useful to read and old volumes. Do I have "informants" and in electronic form.
5. ECO "C". Encyclopedia I have, or rather only the 2nd edition in 1981. We must somehow buy
a new 4th.
6. "The contours of endgame" (Slutsk, Shereshevskii). Bible young chess players of my
generation - without it anywhere.

Let us turn to the options.

Against the French White has 4 main development system, not counting the coin changer option:
3.Nc3, 3.Nd2, 3.e5 and 2.d3. Against the first two, I'm the same - 3 ... Nf6. Who is this course (in
both systems) fits my views.
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7 5.f4 c5 6.Nf3 Nc6 7.Be3. Start position option 4.e5. White
could play 5.Nf3, but certainly the main course 5.f4. 7 ... cd 8.Nd4 Bc5 9.Qd2 Nd4 10.Bd4. Here
I have a choice - the endgame after 10 ... Bd4, or a complex mutual game after 10 ... 0-0. I can
play and so and so, but most are elected by the ending - I have already spoken about the need to
have a practice in typical endgames. 10 ... Bd4 11.Qd4 Qb6 12.Qb6. According to the logic - the
strongest continuation: d4 left the field free for the horse and black horse driven into a bad
position. Although 12.0-0-0 also quite normal. Here's how to continue my blitz games with John
Nunn, one of the best connoisseurs of this option for White: 11 ... Nb6 12.Nb5 (led knight on d4)
Ke7 13.Nd4 Bd7 14.0-0-0 Rac8 15.b3 (limit - not allowing black play Nb6-a4-c5) g6 15.Bd3 h5
(I build fences) 16.g3 Bc6 17.h3 Nd7 18.g4 g5! (Unexpected, although fairly typical

counterblow) 19.f5 Ne5 20.Rhd1 Nd3 21.Rd3 Bd7 22.Rde3 hg 23.fe fe 24.hg Rc6! The sacrifice
quality for the sake of the initiative. Black is now the center of a strong and very active figure.
Then I will not show, because things were too fantastic, to say that I managed to win a rook
endgame without. The party in the sense of revealing the methods of protection for Black: horse
field controls e5, and at the time of travel g4 should counterattack g6-g5.

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Be7

The unloading system is an interesting option 4 ... de 5.Ne4 Nbd7 6.Nf3 h6 !? Elephant forced to
decide. After 7.Nf6 Nf6 8.Bh4 c5 9.dc Qd1 10.Rd1 Bc5 11.Bb5 Ke7 appears positional threat g7g5, and on 8.Be3 goes hunting for elephant 8 ... Nd5. In short, a non-standard version, but the
general direction of the system is not distracting.
5.e5 Ne4 !?
Former course Tartakower which is not as bad as it seems at first glance.
6.Be7
Nothing special gives White 6.Ne4 Bg5 7.Bg5 Qg5 8.Nf3 Qe7. Black c7-c5 hold and begin to
put pressure on d4, possibly b6, Ba6. White has a penny more enjoyable.
6 ... Qe7
At one time were popular complications 6 ... Nc3 7.Qg4 ?! Qe7 8.Qg7 Qb4! 9.Qh8 Kd7 10.Bd3
Qb2 and so on, until Spassky not beat Byrne in the endgame after 7.Bd8 Nd1 8.Bc7 Nb2 9.Rb1
Nc4 10.Bc4. To tell the truth, the ending is not so hopelessly bad for Black, but still unpleasant to
play.
7.Ne4 de 8.Qe2
That's how he played in his time Capa: 8.c3 0-0 9.Qg4 f5 10.ef Qf6 11.0-0-0 Qh6 12.Kb1 e5
13.Qg3 ed 14.Bc4 Be6, and Black all right (Kapablanka- Tartakower, Budapest, 1929). As can be
seen, the e4-pawn is very unpleasant, "thorn", so it is better to do.
8 ... b6! 9.0-0-0 Bb7 10.g3
Fun mutual fianketto. Black had to hurry up with counterplay.
10 ... c5 11.Bg2 Nc6!
Poor 11 ... cd? 12.Be4 Nc6 13.f4 0-0 14.Nf3 - white managed to skip the pawn on f4, and slowly
eat on d4.
12.dc Qg5 13.Kb1 Qe5 14.Be4 Qc5 15.Nf3.

The critical position. Pesek equally, but black is necessary to complete the development. It is
clear that a reshuffle is not passed - 15 ... 0-0? 16.Rd7. References Tseshkovsky, in my opinion,
15 ... Ke7, but then Black does not have time: 16.Qd2! Rad8 17.Qf4! (Translation of a beautiful
queen) Nb4 18.Ne5 f6 19.Qg4 g6 20.Bb7 fe 21.Be4! (21.Qg5 Kf7 22.Rd8 Rd8 23.Qd8 Qc2
24.Ka1 Qc4 =). It is best to keep the black 15 ... Rc8, directly targeting the C2 and releasing hole
for the elephant (just in case). My piece of iron is trying geminate 16.Rd2, but after 16 ... 0-0
17.Rhd1 Qa5 Black appears favorable bounce horse, for example 18.Rd7 Nb4! In general, the
black queen on fifth rank very good, I believe in Black's position.

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7 5.Bd3 c5 6.c3 Nc6 7.Ne2 cd 8.cd f6 9.ef
Acute option 9.Nf4 Nd4 10.Qh5 Ke7 11.ef Nf6 12.Ng6 sometimes found even at a high level,
although after a cold 9 ... Qe7! All White's attack comes to a standstill. It is, in short, is not a
secret, even in a book written in Bareeva, but many, oddly enough, do not know.
9 ... Nf6 10.Nf3 Bd6 11.0-0 0-0 12.Bf4 Bf4 13.Nf4 Ne4 14.Ne2 Rf3 !?
An interesting exchange sacrifice, which is actively developed in the early 90s. Then somehow it
all died down, play the game until the endgame with unequal material and decided that black
only chance for a draw. Then I draw the kind found, but recently re-emerged problems.
15.gf Ng5 16.Kh1! e5! 17.de
Here, the main option - 17 ... Nf3 18.Bh7! Kh8 19.Ng1 Ncd4 20.Nf3 Bg4 21.Nd4! Bd1 22.Rad1
Kh7, and then the latest trends - 23.Rg1. Protect ferrous easy.
But it turns out, it is possible to collapse much sooner: 17 ... Ne5 !? 18.Ng1 Qf6, such 19.Be2
Bd7! Beat on d5 too afraid, or else put the black bishop on c6 and begin to spud white kingside.
The quality here is not felt, I felt a couple of times, playing white. Again, this is not new - there
were parties, and article Ulybina in New In Chess is also written about the course of 17 ... Ne5.
As you can see, the theory is indeed reminiscent of the "weak-sighted lady" was said in the last
century.

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5 4.c3 Bd7.

Entry to the original version, which aims at the exchange of light-squared bishops. It rarely
occurs, but the results are very good in black.
5.Nf3 a6 6.Bd3 cd
You can not rhinestones 6 ... Bb5? 7.Bb5 ab 8.dc Bc5 9.b4 !, and Black loses a pawn b5.

7.cd
Hardly logical 7.Nd4 - after 7 ... Nc6 have to retreat back to the horse f3 (8.f4 Bc5, 9 ... Qb6).
Bb5 8.Bb5
If you just 8.0-0, then white is not practical chance to attack - without the light-squared bishop
put the mat hard.
8 ... ab
Now, in the case of 9.Qd3 or 9.Nc3 Black must answer 9 ... b4, but on 9.0-0 - 9 ... Ne7, trying to
quickly complete the development kingside. Dual pawn "b" are compensated pressure line "a",
the development of Black free, no bad figures.

1.e4 e6 2.d3 d5 3.Nd2 Nf6 4.Ngf3 Bc5 !?

A rare move order, provoking white pawn on promoting the center.
5.e5
Funny punishable by careless moves 5.g3 and 5.c3: after 5 ... de 6.de (6.Ne4 de 7.de Qd1 8.Kd1
Bf2) Ng4 point f2 under attack. If White wants to maintain this structure, they should play 5.Be2,
and after 5 ... Nc6 6.0-0 e5 there Philidor defense position with a change of color.
5 ... Nfd7 6.d4 Bb6 !?
By 6 ... Be7 Black could bring the party to the usual options of 3.Nd2 Nf6, but they want to give
the game an original character. Elephant with b6 will exert strong pressure on d4 points and f2. I
first encountered this idea in the white game against Ukrainian irresistible (and now German)
grossmeystershi Oksana barn, and experienced many anxious moments.
7.Bd3 f6!
Immediately undermining center.
8.ef Qf6 9.0-0 0-0
The idea of black simple: after Nc6 e6-e5 spend and get a big advantage. White also need to
somehow attach horse d2. In an 10.Nb3 e5 11.Bg5 Qd6 12.de Ne5 13.Ne5 Qe5 under attack
themselves bishop and pawn b2, then 14.Qc1 looks quite shabby and 14.Qd2 too risky - yet
pawns on the road do not roll.
