Federal officials announced Saturday that Amtrak must immediately expand its use of a
speed restriction system on Philadelphia's northbound rails where a speeding train
reached 106 mph, flew off the tracks and crashed, killing eight people
The Federal Railroad Administration said an emergency order would be issued in coming
days that calls for Amtrak to ensure the presence of the automatic train control system
that notifies an engineer when a train is above the speed limit and automatically applies
the brakes if the engineer doesn't act to slow the train down.
The system is already being used for southbound trains approaching the curve where
Tuesday's derailment occurred.

With some 300 houses in jeopardy, and even more firefighters working to contain the fire,
this weekend has seen the rapid growth of a now 300 acre wildfire doing major damage
to wildlife east of Los Angeles. With many residents being already evacuated, there is
real fear that these houses may be doomed for. Though no one has been injured, and as of
now no houses have burned, Fire Captain Mike Mohler places probability of these houses
catching fire at a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. Not a promising probability for home owners in
the area who have been hit severely with drought recently, playing a big role in the rapid
spread of this fire. As of 1 a.m. this morning pacific time, the firefighters claim they have
the fire 15% contained

A boat that is now assumed to have been carrying some 950 migrants aboard it capsized
Saturday night in the dark of the Mediterranean Sea. Responders to the boats distress call
were able to rescue around 50 people, but the overall number of passengers aboard the
ship is still not entirely known. One survivor of the shipwreck when he spoke with
investigators, claimed the ship was carrying around 950 people, many whom were unable
to escape the ship as it sank. This is one of various disasters happening recently as these
migrants attempt to flee from several different war ridden countries to the likes of Europe
in hopes of peaceful living.

A new trailer for the upcoming 7th installment in the heavyweight series Star Wars was
released this weekend in time for the Star Wars Celebration fan festival Sunday in
Anaheim, California. An estimated 10 thousand people were said to have attended the
festival and overall the feedback on the 3-minute teaser was very positive, as many Star
Wars fans cannot wait to see the new installments to the franchise. While more news on
the plot of the movie surfaces, its becoming clear that the movie will take place between
the last released movie "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and the first released movie
"Episode IV: A New Hope". So much more yet to come from the wildly successful films,
as three more movies are expected from new driving force Disney behind them, it will be
interesting to see how they tie it all together
