KEYWORDS
o Al-Fatiha is nicknamed Umm Ul Quran Mother of the Qur'an and
o 'Al-Qur'an al-Adhim', the Great Qur'an as it encompasses the meaning of the entire
Qur'an.
Al-Fatiha means The Opening. It is the introduction to the Qur'an, the contents page and
key to unlocking the Qur'an.
It is the Surah we recite often in our daily prayers and is a Du`a a personal prayer to
Allah. Sometimes likened to the Christian Lord's prayer.
LESSON: It has been placed at the very beginning of the book to teach the reader: if you
sincerely want to benefit from the Qur'an, you should offer this prayer to the Lord of the
Universe.
#Hadith: The Messenger of Allah salallahu `alayhi was-salam said,
"Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, said, 'I have divided the prayer between Myself and my servant
equally and My servant shall be granted what he asked for.'
Therefore when the servant says, 'all praises and thanks are due to Allah, the Lord of the universe',
Allah says, 'My servant has praised Me.'
When he says,'the Entirely Compassionate, the Especially Merciful,'Allah says, 'My servant has
praised Me.'
When he says, 'Master of the Day of Judgement,' Allah says, 'My servant has glorified Me.'
When he says, 'You Alone we worship and Your aid Alone do we seek,' Allah says, 'this is between
Me and My servant and My servant shall have what he requested.'
When he says, 'guide us to the Straight Path, the Path of those whom You have favoured, not of
those who have incurred [Your] wrath, neither of those who have gone astray,'
Allah says, 'this is for My servant and My servant shall have what he asked for.' (Imam Muslim}
astray.
Ayah 2: He is All-Merciful and has bestowed countless of bounties on His creatures (Islam
and guidance), but at the same time He is the supreme Justice and everybody will have to
answer Him on the Day of Judgement for his worldly deeds.
Ayah 4: He alone is worthy of worship and He alone is to be asked for help because He is
the Cherisher and the Master of everything in the universe.
Ayah 5: We ask Allah to include us by association to the Awliya, Anbiya and true believers,
who followed the straight path of Islam before us and were blessed immensely because of
this
o The people who received 'Ne`ma' (An-`Amta) were given revelations, provisions to
survive, miraculous signs of Allah, they were were given reputation, fellowship, and
most incredibly - the love of Allah and an entry ticket to Jannah
o Today, some folks believe these blessings are the technological advancements of
the 21st century or science - I'm afraid this is not the same as the An-`Amta
`alayhim [blessings of those whom Allah favoured over everyone else]
o When believers implore for the straight path, He always showers blessings on them
and protects them from going astray.
Ayah 7: Ghair-il Maghdubi `alayhim
o We ask Allah to protect us from the long rebellious history of the Banu Israel aka
Jewish communities that followed Prophet Moses `alayhis-salam (peace be upon
him), and after all their dramas earned Allah's anger
o Walad-daaleen
o And we ask Allah to keep us on the straight and narrow so we don't become
deviated or branch off into our own ideas as Christians did, for truly, their
contemporary beliefs are 'daleel' - lost.
Supplication is the core of worship and the blessed Qur'an encourages the believers for
petitioning,
And your Lord said: Invoke Me, I will respond to your supplication (Qur'an, 40:60).

Virtues of Surah Baqarah
Countless Barakah and virtues of this Surah; some are the protection from Shaytaan and devils.
#AHADITH on Surah Baqarah:
Verily, Shaytan does not enter the house where Surat Al-Baqarah is recited. (AtTirmidhi)
Rasool-Allah `alayhis-salam said,
Everything has a hump (or, high peek), and Al-Baqarah is the high peek of the Qur'an.
Whoever recites Al-Baqarah at night in his house, then Shaytan will not enter that house for
three nights. Whoever recites it during a day in his house, then Shaytan will not enter that
house for three days.)
- This Hadith was collected by Abu Al-Qasim At-Tabarani, Abu Hatim Ibn Hibban in his Sahih and
Ibn Marduwyah.
Rasool Allah s. said:
SECTION 1: Ayaat 1 20
LESSON: DO NOT BE LIKE THESE PEOPLE! Work Hard! And be sincere in your Deen.
Mufti Saab gave the example of the student who wastes his own time by not studying hard, the
teacher doesnt lose out at all but the student does.
Allah swt begins talking to the Jews, Bani Israeel. They were given a high rank on the earth, and it
was taken away from them.
LESSON: Dont be the ones who deny. Dont claim that something is good, but deny it.
Dont say such and such is for Allah and Deen, but you have a worldly benefit in it. Have a sincere
heart in all actions.
Many Muslims know the truth but deny it. We all clearly know the falsehood and should stay away
from it. Dont be a hypocrite. PRACTISE WHAT YOU PREACH! #PracticeWhatYouPost
SECTION 6: Ayaat 46-59
Allah talks about peoples cruelty. These peoples dont care who is pious or not. These kind of
people killed prophets.
-JEWISH PEOPLE=============================================================
SECTION 8: Ayaat 62-71
Again Allah mentions different groups of people. Referring back to the Jews , The Sabbath is
mentioned- a day dedicated to worship. But the Jews did not.
The Jews questioned A LOT about the cow. What sort of cow they must sacrifice, the colour etc.
Jews denied #ECO Blessings: O Moses, we can never endure one [kind of] food. So call
upon your Lord to bring forth for us from the earth its green herbs and its cucumbers and
its garlic and its lentils and its onions." [Moses] said, "Would you exchange what is better
for what is less?... (ayah 61)
They habitually broke Allahs rules and did worldly matters despite being told not to.
They killed prophets
So Allah punished them by changing them into monkeys and apes. They were covered with
humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah
LESSON: Dont question too much. Accept what Allah and his prophet say. Accept what your
teachers say.
The Jews would write their own scriptures and change the pure words of Allah. They assumed
their punishment would be small, but in reality their torment will be great for these lies and
corruption. You earn your Hell, or you earn you Jannah.
(2:81-83) Allah is guiding the Jews and us to worship Him alone, to be good to parents,
orphans, to speak good and give charity and pray. But most people do not do this. They ignore
the guidance and pick and chose. We do this in our life also. We pick and chose Islam. They
even committed bloodshed, despite promising not to. Their punishment is severe.
Allah reminds the Jews of previous prophets he sent: Musa, Isa and Muhammad `alayhum
salam.
o And Allah is questioning why they do not listen? What is wrong with you!? Jews replied
saying nothing reaches our hearts as they are covered. (Arrogance/being stuck up).
o Allah reminds them again, why are you denying the truth that has come to you through
Rasool-Allah saw? You cannot claim piety is you are not pious, if you are so pious why did you
kill prophets?
Why did you worship the calf? Allah says if you (the Jews) are so pious ask for death, but they long
for a long life, as they know punishment is waiting for them:
you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life (ayah 96)
Another claim human beings make: I dont want to go there because such and such a person is
there. The Jews said we do not accept the Quran because Angel Jibraeel is bringing it. Allah says
whoever is an enemy of Jibraeel or the Prophets will be punished. And Allah will be YOUR enemy!
Very serious! They broke the covenant and rejected their book.
LESSON: Dont throw the Quran behind you. Dont ignore it or reject the messages revealed.
This is what the Jews did.
Rather they listened to the Devils. And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited
during the reign of Solomon.
When corruption begins they begin doing evil things like magic. But Allah is most powerful. These
people are doing these things for a small profit, they sell their faith but will face punishment.
compensation will be accepted from it, nor will any intercession benefit it, nor will they be
aided.
Ayah 124-128: Ibrahim as was tested by Allah and completed the task. Allah made him the leader of
the people. And those who follow him (children). Allah rewards the hardwork in tests.
DU`A FOR PROPHET MUHAMMAD s. Ayah 129: The Dua of Ibrahim: Was that Rasool `alayhissalamwould became a leader of the people.
#HADITH: I (Muhammad s.) am the Du`a of Ibrahim as. and Isaa gave glad tidings to me...
Section 16: ayaat 130-141
Ayaat 142-150
2: 142. The fools (idolaters, hypocrites, and Jews) will say to the Muslims, why have you turned
your faces away from the Qibla in Jersulem to the Kabah?
NEW NEW NEW QIBLAH! Ayah 144 & 149 & 150: Rasool-Allah sw. hoped Masjid Al-Haram would
become the qibla, and it did as Allah revealed to tell Muslims to face towards the Ka`bah,
wherever they are on earth.
o Rasool-Allah turned whilst praying in Medina, to distinguish the Muslims Qibla from the
Jews. Its not the same. We worship the same place Adam, Ibrahim etc worship. We
are ordered to face the Haram Shareef in Makkah wherever we are to pray Salaah.
(2:150)
Ayaat 150-157
LESSON: Accept that YES you will be tested, but be patient and you will receive Allahs barakah
on you. Always remember Allah in good and bad.
Guidance for when in difficult times: Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly, to Allah
we belong and truly, to Him we shall return. (2:156)
Ayaat 158-1
TAFSEER: Ash-Sha`bi said, "Isaf (an idol) was on As-Safa while Na'ilah (an idol) was on AlMarwah, and they used to touch (or kiss) them. After Islam came, they were hesitant about
performing Tawaf between them. Thereafter, the Ayah (2:158) was revealed.'' TO SAY
PERFORMING SA`EE IS OKAY symbols of Allah no blame for walking between them
These Ayaat (2:159-163) sternly warn against those who hide the clear signs that the Messengers
were sent with which guide to the correct path and beneficial guidance for the hearts, after Allah
has made such aspects clear for His servants through the Books that He revealed to His
Messengers. Hiding knowledge or truth is a major sin.
SIGNS (2:164-65) Clear signs of Tawheed for people with `Aql. La ayaatil-liqawmiyya`qiloon
o Heaven & Earth
o Night & Day
o Ships which sail benefitting sea (think fishing)
o Rain, which gives life
o Every species of creature/organisms
o Winds that are controlled and send info underneath the clouds
Allah also reminds the people not to follow forefathers (this was their custom).
MUHAMMAD s. IN TORAH (2:174) Verily, those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book.
Meaning the Jews who concealed their Book's descriptions of Muhammad
Then Allah reminds us of the torment of the next life, and how what we assume is a small bad
deed but actually it is a terrible thing in reality. Think!
Ayah 177: What is Birr? Righteousness is believing in Allah and the Arkaan ul-Imaan aka
Imaane Mufassil aka The 6 Articles Of Faith
o AND Birr is giving up wealth despite loving it
To relatives orphans needy people travellers those who ask to free slaves
o AND Birr is in those who pray consistently not part-time
o AND Birr is in those who give Zakat properly
o AND Birr is in those who keep their promises
o AND Birr is in those who keep patient when they lose their job/poverty
o AND Birr is when they have a type of battle
LESSON: These are actions that define piety. If we do these, we will be righteous too and
become people of Birr.
RAM ADAN Ayah 185: The Quran was revealed in this month. Cool.
2:211 Ask the Children of Israel how many signs of Allah they got
ISLAM (the faith) CAME FIRST 2:213 Mankind was one religion
Ayah 214: Do you think you can enter Paradise without being tested? Allah asks rhetorically
o In the Makkan boycotts/torture, Muslims asked When is the help of Allah?
o Allah replies, Inna nasr-Allahi qareeb the help of Allah is near.
JIHAD of Badr battle. Ayah 216: You hate fighting [and other things], but theres good in it for you
o Ayah 217: Fighting is Haram during Hajj
(2:233) Breastfeeding is linked to IQ and is a right of husbands and is a blessing through mother.
Breastfeed for a wholesome 2-ish years.
o Parents can get a wet-nurse
o Parents shouldnt feel pressured
Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him
many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and
to Him you will be returned.
But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, "How many a small
company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah. And Allah is
with the patient."

LESSON: Charity is not for Allah. Allah is Free of Need (267). Charity in His name is for YOU
and YOUR bank balance on #JDay
ETIQUETTE Kind speech/forgiveness is better than charity after insult. Ayah 263
PROPHET MUHAMMAD s. is not bound to converting people. Ayah 272
INTEREST: Those who consume it will not stand on #Jday.
o People say trade is like interest
o REPLY: Allah has permitted trade, forbidden interest
Destination.
THE DU`A (2:286) Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It
will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence
of] what [evil] it has earned.
This means, Allah does not ask a soul what is beyond its ability. This only demonstrates Allah's
kindness, compassion and generosity towards His creation. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
"Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay
not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.
Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And
pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so
give us victory over the disbelieving people."
You sent Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of mercy, to abrogate these burdens through the
Law that You revealed to him, the Hanif (Islamic Monotheism), easy religion.''
ALLAHS REPLY #HADITH Imam Muslim recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah
said that Allah said, "I shall (accept your supplication).''
Ibn `Abbas narrated that the Messenger of Allah said that Allah said, "I did (accept your
supplication).'' (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

In addition to the Prophets followers, Allah's peace be upon him, this Surah has been
especially addressed to 2 groups-the people of the Book (the Jews and the Christians)
Ayaat 1
Allah sent revelations which confirmed the scriptures sent to Prophet Moses = Torah, Jesus
= Injil, and others.
Allah revealed the Quran.
SCIENCE Allah creates us in our mothers wombs. (3:6)
DU`A Ayah 8, Do not let our hearts deviate after You guided us
People like Pharoah deny Allahs signs their money/wealth/children will not save them
HELL Description Ayah 12: wretched resting place
1 good army VS 1 bad. Allah supports those who fight for Him. (3:13)
DUNYA:
Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up
sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the
enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return. (3:14)
Kun fa ya qoon Allah says Be, and it is. Maryam questions her pregnancy
130-143
Ayaat: 149-155
Each ayaat has a deep explanation. The Uhud battle is explained here. Those archers who
were supposed to remain on the mountain as instructed by the Prophet. They thought they
had won and left their place, through heedlessness. The enemies attacked from behind.
Muslims became puzzled, as they thought they had received victory.
The hypocrites took the opportunity to insult them, and said you should have listened to
our advice and you wouldnt have been killed. Allah says death is at its appointed time,
even if you are in your homes you would have had your soul taken, It was their time to die.
LESSON: Always obey the Rasool and always listen to him. You cannot succeed
without listening to Him.
That is true victory and success.
Ayaat: 156-171
Why does Allah say Prophet Muhammad to ask forgiveness for them?
Sins will not remove or leave a person until he asks his teacher or mentor to ask for
forgiveness. The messenger asks forgiveness for them as well.
LESSON: Say sorry to your teachers!! The sin will be removed with the Du`a of
your teacher also.
Get guidance from your teacher, it will easier for you to leave your bad habit.
Having counsel- discussing, helps. Whatever is decided, should be done with trust. Then
TRUST Allah and leave it with him.
Rulings during Battles are then mentioned
Not to steal the booty- On judgment day it will be asked for him
Muslims favours from Allah (3:164)
(3:165)- Not showing patience. Look at others who are patient in times of tragedy. Show
patience in both situations. Dont blag it either! Dont lie and say you are going through
hardship. Allah knows what is in the hearts!
Martyrs are alive, they are provided for and given nourishment. They enjoy their life, they
are receiving the best reward. Allah doesnt waste believers rewards.
Ayaat: 172-180
At Uhud there was a rumour, the non believers that they are attacking medina, Allah told
his rasool and he was ready again for the battle. when THE people told them that there is
abig army, and a severe attack upon you. They tried to scare the muslim, but true muslims
were not scared. Their (unbelievers) tactics did not work, but instead their imaan
increased. The believers said Allah is sufficient for us and he is the best supporter and
helper. Dont worry about us, we will answer them if they some.
Allah says this is Satans tactic to try and not to fear the people. Fear Allah!
Khowf- fear Allah and you will not be harmed.
Kafir means disobedient people, Muslims who are disobedient will not enter heaven.
Alama Iqbal said everything will come with practise, things will not come to him, he will
be rewarded according to his actions in this world. You dont just get heaven.
For the Kafir is a terrible punishment.
179) Muslims- dont think you wont be tested. You will be tested. It separates the true
believers from the other people. YOU WILL BE TESTED!
Section 19: Ayaat 181-189
Some people said Allah needs things, and we are rich. We are in need not Allah. Allah does
need money or anything. (disbelievers)
These people killed prophets. They will have hell fire. The people wanted a sign first
before believing the prophet. Allah says they did have clear signs!
We will be tested by Health Wealth
Dont think of those who are very happy. What is the human nature? He wants
appreciation.he wants people to say such and such did such a good thing. Allah talks
about these people who think they did such a good thing, who seek praise, despite not
doing something. These people will have punishment, as they made a false claim. Allahs
power is everywhere, it is his kingdom
- End of Surah -
Ayah 15: In the beginning of Islam, if women were disobedient (in regards to their social
obligations/duties to Allah) , they would be restricted to homes (e.g. adulteresses).
1. Ayah 16: Allah say but allow them to repent and ignore the evil action.
2. Do not remind the person of their evil action.
Ayah 17: Tawbah is from Allah and Allah accepts it.
1. Dont do istighfaar on your death bed. Dont go out with an evil intention. What
if you were to die in that state?
2. Repentance is not for those. Its too late on your death bed! What if death comes
suddenly? Every movement is a mercy from Allah, so be on the right path with good
people always have a good intention.
Allah is reminding us of reality and death and then speaks about dealing with women. And
not to treat them badly. Dont take money of your women (Mahr) it belongs to them.
Live with women gently, even if you dislike them, there may be something good in her.
She may be a very pious woman, she may have abundant goodness- you dont know!
AHKAAM Ayah 19-22: Not to marry your mothers, step mothers.
1. Pre-Islamic arabs would marry step mothers and inherit them. As their father
would die, they would take the step-mothers as wives. Qurans message is to
disregard the evil past ways.
AHKAAM Ayah 23-24: Whom men can marry and cant is explained.
1. Mahram: forbidden women for men: Mothers, daughters, aunties (both sides)
Ayah 25: Purpose of marriage: to save your chastity and be pious and to look after each
other. A big responsibility on two people. Allah said this should be your aim, not a
fulfilment of desires.
//At this time we do not have slave girls, back then they were allowed to marry them
after giving them their Mahr.
Ayah 28: Mankind was created weak Allah makes difficulties easier
(4:29) Those who eat other peoples property lose their respect and lose value in society.
Its as though he Is killing himself and is dead. Everyone wants to escape from him. No one
cares about him as he is corrupt.
Ayah 31: Allah swt says whoever follows his desires is far from the right path. Keep
yourself away, dont commit major sins, he will remove the smaller bad deeds.
Ayah 32: Dont be jealous of others for their success/wealth. Its all a test and Allah gives
however He wills. There are equal rights in terms of earning wealth- male and female.
Rights are for both. Whatever is left should go to whoever is eligible with inheritance.
Allah is the witness.
4:34: THE VERSE OF MARRIAGE PROBLEMS1. Men have a right in running the household in making decisions after discussing with
his wife.
2. Men are Qawwam because they have to sacrifice more to look after wives.
3. Steps to take if the woman is disobedient constantly: advise her, then separate
from her (from bed), if she is still disobedient then hit her hand with a miswak.
4. Wrong translation: Lightly hit her
5. Mufti feels that Wadriboona means explain to her.
Daraba: does it mean explaining or beating? Dont make excuses to blame women!
LESSON for men: Try to resolve the situation, to re-unite the two. Get other people
involved.
Ayah 36 Do good to the following, no matter what. Allah doesnt like those who are proud
and disregard others feelings.
1. Parents
2. Relatives
3. Orphans
4. Needy
5. Neighbours
6. Travellers you travel with
7. Male and female servants
Ayah 38: Shaytaan is your companion when you do evil and show off.
#HADITH The Prophet s. asked Abdullah Ibn Masood to recite. Ibn Masood said but the
Quran was revealed to him Rasool-Allah s. said I like listening to the Quran from other
people. Ibn Masood recited Sura Nisa, when he reached this Ayaat 41:
So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you, [O
Muhammad] against these [people] as a witness?
1. Rasool saw. said his heart was in pieces, as he will be brought forward as a witness
against the people. Rasool said how can I do this?
He can be a witness FOR or AGAINST you. Two groups of people on #JDAY: (1) Rasool will
be witness for those who disbelieved the Rasool. And those who believed. Nothing is
hidden.
ALCOHOL Rules of performing Salaah. The people would approach prayer drunk, alcohol
was not forbidden yet; graDu`ally phased out to help people kick habit. People need to
approach Salaah in a pure state.
DRY WUDU Tayyamum is mentioned in Ayah 43.
The Jews changed the words of Allah swt for their own benefit. Insulting Rasool and the
Deen
Allah will forgive everything except Shirk.
Ayat 49: Dont boast about your Imaan and piety. Its up to Allah swt. Allah is Just.
Ayah 51-52: Many people (Muslims included) pick and choose from the scripture but look at
the non-believers as more guided. Allah curses these people.
The Jews wished for the prophet to come from amongst their own people. They did not
like this.
HELL Ayah 56: In Hell fire as punishment the skin will be roasted and made again. The
pain is in the skin; the skin will be burnt and replaced. Why does Allah talk about human
skin and not muscle or blood? Science explains the nerves are in the skin.
HEAVEN Ayah 57: People who believe will be given gardens with large flowing rivers and
pure partners Azwaajun
Ayah 58: Allah explains trusts should be given to good people and not wrong people. Do
justice for people. Be a good judge. Message for the leader.
Ayah 59: OBEY Allah.
o OBEY Rasool-Allah.
o OBEY those in authority not just anyone in charge; the Islamic scholars and people
who know about Shariah.
Disagreements should be resolved through Allahs
rules, Rasool-Allahs s. advice.
o Take all solutions from the Quran and Sunnah
People will say they believe in Rasool and Allah. But when reality comes, they will not use
the Quran and Sunnah and look for answers elsewhere. They claim they are believers, so
why are they going elsewhere?
SIGNS OF HYPOCRITES Hypocrites [Munafiqoon] are reluctant; ask yourself, are you
reluctant in accepting the answer in the Quran and Sunnah? Ayah 61-62
Ayah 63-64: Allah tells the Rasool to ignore them as he knows whats in their heart. Maybe
a good word will enter their heart. All messengers are sent to be obeyed, if the people ask
for forgiveness Allah will accept it.
No punishment on thoughts. If a decision is made by Rasool control your thoughts, accept
fully. Be obedient and surrender yourself to that decision
Ayah 67-68: Allahs rules are not always followed 100% but if people did, they would be
given a GREAT reward. Allah would guide everyone to the Straight path
Allah mentions good company: those who obey Rasool s. and Allah., will be with Anbiya
(prophets) and Awliyah (saints) 4:69.
LESSON: Use these checklists to understand who you are and whose company you are
in.
These verses talk about these people who look at opportunities to benefit from.
If something bad happens to someone they will leave that indiviDu`al. If something good
happens they will join in to gain good.
JIHAD Allah talks about jihad on battlefield. Ayah 74-78
o Fighting with sincerity then you fight for Allah. Sell the life of this world for the
Akhirah
o WHY dont you fight for the oppressed men, women, children they ask for a
helper. Its YOU.
o If you are not sincere you fight for Shaytaan.
o The plot of Shaytan has always been weak Ayah 76
o Jihad only applies if there is a Khalifah.
o Ayah 84: Fight in the cause of Allah you are only responsible for yourself;
encourage others to join you. Allah is great!
Allah talks to the people who scared of fighting in the battlefield; why have you decreed
upon us fighting. REPLY the enjoyment of this world is little. The akhirah is better.
Injustice will not be done to you.
Guidance for Muslims: not to divide yourself when it comes to decisions about hypocrites.
Allah humiliated them because of their actions/behaviour. How can you guide such a person
that Allah has misguided. They wish for the believers to join them. People will try to bring
you down and be with them. Dont be friends with the hypos! Dont show sympathy with them
AHKAAM Ayah 90-91 Rulings on how to fight. Show more peace and kindness. If they do not
fight you & offer peace, you cannot fight them, if not fight them and defend yourself.
Those people deceive themselves and live in deception. Those who are deceptive. They
hide themselves from people but do not hide from Allah. Sometimes people support the
wrong people,
But who will support them and stand with them on judgment day? Who will be there
solicitor/lawyer/pleader on judgment day? {Wakeel}
Ayah 106: Seek the forgiveness of Allah. He is always ready to forgive
Ayah 107: Some commit sins but blame other people. Allah does not like habitually
deceivers
Ayah 108: The kind of people who hide their evil intentions from people BUT Allah KNOWS!
Ayah 109: Who will argue/defend these people on #Jday?
Ayah 110-12: Your wrongs are for you. Mercy is the solution, but your evils are all yours.
Allah says if it were not for His mercy, people would not survive.
People will try to misguide you and they will try their best but they will not achieve
anything but harm for themselves.
Allah swt said: HE revealed wisdom and what you did no know: His FADL is upon you. No
goodness in whispers except that someone is telling secret charity or to make peace
between people = that is better and more rewarding.
Ayah 15 - Whoever disobeys Rasool-Allah, and wants to choose anti-Muslim way Allah says
he will return to Hell.
Ayah 142-43: Hypocrites think theyre deceiving Allah, but Allah is deceiving them.
When hypocrites stand to prayer they are lazy
LESSON: When you get up to pray be active, with full intentions. Not lazy. Allah says
hypocrites only pray to show people. YOU remember Allah a lot.
People (Ahl ul-Kitab) asked for revelations from Rasool-Allah cheeky! They already asked
Musa alayhisalam a bigger thing (to see Allah). There was thunder because of their
injustices and arrogance. They were killed.
o Killing of the cow Musas people worshipped the calf.
Ayah 154: People asked to see Allah arrogantly.
o So the Toor mountain was raised and a covenant was made between Allah and
them.
o Ayah 155: They were cursed for breaking the covenant.
Ayah 156: Isaa ibn Maryam story biggest dispute between 2 religions.
o Ayah 157: He was not killed/crucified = Islamic belief
o Isaa is alive. Ahl-ul-Kitab WILL believe because Jesus will be witness against them
on J. Day. Was he crucified? Prove it!
And they did not kill him [Jesus], nor did they crucify him; but [another]
was made to resemble him to them (4:157)
Rather, Allah raised him to Himself (4:158)
And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely
believe in Jesus before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be
against them a witness. (4:159)
Comparative roles between prophets. No-one can say nobody came as a Warner.
o Allah gave revelation to Nuh, Ibrahim, Ismaeel, Yaqub, Yaqubs descendants, Isaa,
Ayoub, Yunus, Harun, Sulayman, Dawud was given Zabur, Psalms.
PROPHETS Ayah 164: We havent been told about all of them.
Ayah 168-69: People who disbelieve AND make distract people from Allah, who commit
injustices Allah will not forgive them or guide them. They will enter Hell.
Ayah 170: Rasool-Allah has come with the truth
Ayah 171: Message to Christians: Dont be extremist in religion. Saying wrong things like
Trinity. Uh-uh!
Story of Isaa ibn Maryam Not 3!, Only Allah is God.
o Jesus is Allahs Kalimah, His word.
o Given to Maryam, a soul of Allah.
o Ayah 171 - Allah is above these things they say

- End of Surah -
Travel the earth and see the signs when travelling the earth. Allah speaks of his mercy and
how will bring us all on JDAY.
The prophet said he feared Allah and feared disobeyed him and feared Jday. Why? Though
he was pure and did not disobey. Allah will not put fear in the believers hearts and will not
punishment them. Disobediant people will be punished and will be given recompense for
their bad actions. BE CAREFUL!!
Lesson for Muslims: Everything is in His hands. If he wants to favour someone no one can stop
it. We all seek refuge in Allah and from his punishment
If Allah gives you good things, no one can stop this. Prophets Du`a: nobody can stop whatever
Allah wants to give to you, no one has the power to benefit anyone against Allah. Dialogue:
Quran is revealed from Allah- and whoever is receiving the message. Between Rasool and Allah.
Prophet witnesses there is only one God (Wahid)
They recognise the prophet, but their souls are in loss because they dont fully believe.
SECTION 3: Ayaat 21-30
The nature of person- if he does something wrong he will say I did not do this, I swear by
Allah. First thing we say by default. Same thing on Judgment day, we will day we did not
do this!
They will say We swear by Allah we were not polytheists! despite worshipping idols. Allah
says look how they lie about themselves Ayaat (6:23). They will still try on judgment day
to escape from them. Every time the criminal is caught will not admit, he will deny and try
to escape the situation. They will stand on the edge of hell fire, they will desire to be
returned and will request to be sent back and they will say they will believe and not
reject.
Allah says (26) that they are liars, even if they were returned they would not believe. Time
and time again Allah reminds us we will stand before Allah and be accountable. They will
say Yes it is true, we did not believe.
Allah says that he knows it hurts Rasool when they deny you, but they deny Allah and deny
in his signs. Many messengers were denied and not accepted.
Lesson: Dont get sad over it.
Lesson for scholars/preachers: if the community ignores and it hurts So destroy not
yourself in sorrow 35:8
The peoples attitude will not change. Some people will accept and some with refuse, our
duty is work and work! The result is with Allah swt. There is no harm on the preacher, the
person only harms himself.
Allah mentions he sent messengers to diff nations and they were tested. Maybe they
become humble- this is the reason for nbeing tested.
When tragedy strikes, good people show humility, but some hearts are hardened and are
not and Shaytaan encourages them to stray away. In difficult times we turn to Allah, but
then we forget him in hard times.
People think they benefit so much from wordly pleasures, so Allah destroys them. Allah
can take imaan from hearts, and these people are completely hopefull. Many nations were
destroyed, because they were wrong doers.
Allah says dont rebel those people who remember Allah and want to please him. This
happens in society, those who are needy and poor turn to Allah more and more. But other
people look down on them.
Lesson: Allah says they are TRUE servants of Allah and dont turn them back.
Common practice in community- those who have less wealth and worldly things we mock
them. Allah says DONT DO THIS! We look at those who have more thinking they are more
blessed. Allah does not like these comments. (6:52-54)
We ignore and degrade these people (homeless) we look up to those who have many cars
and houses. Allahs Fadl is in those who earn halal, not haram. Its not about how much
hajj you go on or how much charity you give. Allah loves the grateful- they do Shukr
despite having so little.
SECTION 7:
SECTION 8: Ayaat 61
Angels are guardians- to protect human beings. Time of death angels will not be lazy, they
will not leave anyone.
Death and #Jday will come quickly
Allah is the one who saved you from calamities- but you still do shirk??
When one is ill they ask Allah for Shifa, when he does, then you wont talk about Allah. You
will speak of the doctor and medicine that helped you. He totally forgets, that Allah saved
you and gave you Shifa. Allah created the doctor and created the shifa for you. Medicine
may fail many times. Be grateful!! Say it was Allah who gave me shifa!
Signs of Allah for our understanding
6:67- Death is soon, reality is soon. You will come to know!
Leave those who dont take Deen seriously. Dont participate with them, is they mock
Deen/pious people. If accidently you do, Allah reminds us. (6:68) They drown in evil
conversation- dont be part of it. Save your Imaan. Useless talk.
PUNISHMENTS- boiling water
o Allahs punishment is in different shapes.
o Our punishment today- (6:65) we will be mixed with other nations, wanting to
adopt other peoples lifestyles. Youngsters will look toward fashion, eager and keen
to follow the trends of today. This is the biggest punishment that people leave the
right path and want to follow others.
Ibrahims son is Ishaq- Ishaqs son is Yaqoob. Allah made them leaders to. Many prophets
are mentioned in these ayaat to emphasise that if any of these prophets did shirk, their
good deeds would have been in vain. 16 prophets are mentioned!
If anyone associates any partnership or likeness with Allah is shirk. Lam ya kula hu kufu
wan ahad Surah IKHLAS.
If they didnt do their duty Allah would have handed it to someone else.
Allah is saying: They are all guided, follow their guidance. It is naseeha for people.
beauty of the Quran, he joined the two ends of our life to create a picture of reality for
us.
What are you leaving behind? Whatever Allah gave you.
A baby is born with nothing, no clothes, toys etc (terminator) Completely naked. You are
wrapped in white sheets and put away.
Reflect the reality of life
SECTION 14: Ayaat 111Even if we sent angels to speak to them, and made the dead alive in front of them. They
still will not believe. They only want to test the prophet and cause difficulty for him. They
are not willing to accept Islam. Their intention is wrong initially.
Lesson: Check your hearts intention when talking to people or asking questions. Arguing is
not the nature of Muslims.
Ayaat 122-129
Allah uses metaphorical language, before a person receives noor and guidance of Quran.
Those who study the Quran receive a new light. Before the light you are dead. You are
receiving the light of Allah, what will happen when you return bacl to the Dunya, Allah
says he takes that noor back with him to the community, he takes that noor to the people.
We talk about these classes/Quran classes with othersAllah speaks of this! (6:122)
In every community Allah made great people who use others and make them corrupt, the
poor follow them. Allah speaks of tyrants who have power many times, they dont accept
the right path easily.
They lie! They say they want peace in the community. A blanket over the eyes.
They have evil plans with evil people. Pulling the strings, sit back and make others do bad
for them. Puppet showWhen someone accepts Deen his chest is open and feels happiness and peace. He who is
astray- (6:125) their faces drop Allah speaks about those people. Their chest tightens, the
#ECOISLAM Allah talks about the bounties He has made Olives, fruits, trellised gardens. ayah 141
Joke: Mufti saw a huge tree, with only 1 seed, and the bigger bush had lots of fruits.
Reply; unfair! The fruit should be swapped. Wind made the date fall and hit his head.
Animals are mentioned their Haramness etc.
Dont eat animas that havent had Allahs named over slaughter.
Jews were forbidden to eat animals fat;
Allah is of extensive mercy message to the Jews, ayah 147
Polytheists, IF Allah WILLED! We wouldnt be shirking ayah 148
Ayat 149: If someone sells drugs; does HAram and claims If Allah wils, I will stop. Corrupt
mentality. Different between knowledge of Allah and will of Allah. Corrupt mind repliles
like Mushrik, if Allah wills, we wont associate with His will. The person is talking the
same. Corrupt mentality. Allah does not will someone to do Haram. Be careful of this
misguidance.
Similar ayat to associating partners; dont kill children in fear of poverty. Allah feeds
them and you!
Dont have bad niyyah: Secret, Baatin
Do not eat up orphans wealth
Follow My Path Ayah 153, follow it, maybe youll be guided
No soul burdened beyond capacity
Story of Musa Torat is mentioned. Ayah 154: Guidance was given, and blessings, sent to
guide people, like Quran is sent to guide.
ALIF LAAM MEEM SAAD - Allah swt and his Rasool know the clear meaning of these initial
letters.
Allah said the Quran was sent to warn and admonish people, not distress. Why Allah said?
Sometime we as humans feel a burden, (not the prophet) Allah describing to us and giving
us a lesson that if a noble cause is given to you take it happily. It is not a burden.
Dont follow your friends, even parents will say dont befriend such and such person.
Follow Quranic teachings and not society. Doesnt matter if everyone else is, you dont go
there. Follow Rasools life and footsteps.
Dress code is mentioned; Libaas (clothing) cover your bodies, Rasool also mentioned that
many people wear garments but they are naked, they will go to hell fire.
The best Libaas is Taqwa, even if you are alone with taqwa you will not sin. The best cover
for your life is Taqwa. It will cover you from bad things and you will be free from sin.
Shaytaan took our parents clothing, if you wear unsuitable clothing you are following
Shaytaans path.
People will blame Allah, Allah will never command to wrong thing, Allah will not tell
people to commit sin.
Allah will not command to do bad will command to do good. Wear good clothing when you
enter the Masjid.
Mufti Saab said: dont come in three-piece suit, PJs, coat and turban. If you cant go to
your work place in PJs in these clothes. Come in a nice way to Allah. Wear beautiful when
coming to the Masjid
Who dare forbid the duty that allah created for us. Dont make the halal = haraam, and
the haraam = halal. Allah sets limits.
Conversation between the people of Hell and heaven they will call them and say OUR
LORD promised us and his promise was TRUE. What you were promised, did it come true?
You thought your life would be better for not believing. They willl say. AnnouncementAllahs curse is on the wrong doers.
The door wont open for the arrogant deniers
DU`A: 7:47
The people of paradise will make this du`a- its through Allahs mercy we are here.
The people on Al-Araaf- will say peace be upon you, and they hope they will enter heaven.
They look back onto hell and ask Allah to save them, they wish for Jannah
These are the last people on the sirat- they dont go to hell, last group to enter Jannah.
Tattered clothing.
The same people on Araaf will talk to the people of hellfire. They will say your people did
not benefit you, thinking you had a strong community/gang where is it now?
They will not get any mercy of Allah. Heavenly water is Haraam for them. Allah forbade it
for the disobedient people. Many Muslims will not enter heaven.
Action gets you into heaven or hell.
Allahs signs- He created the world in 6 days. We assume it is our worldly time, but Allahs
time is different. He is not in need of time. Ulama (scholars) say these days are periods of
times (thousands or millions).
Call your lord will humbleness, secretly. Do not create mischief after i
Initially intentions are always pure and good, when he succeeds he diverts from the right
direction and his own Nafs comes in, before he was calling Allah and now he is calling his

heavy clouds no one knew tons of water would be stored in clouds, now we do. Allah
mentions this. They are heavy, air takes them here and there. Scientific miracle.
Prophet Nuh (As)s story. The people claimed they were right and Nuh as was right You
cannot compare yourself to the Prophets. Nuh said Im sincere and doing my duty as a
messenger. They were blind, and were not thinking or observing the life of Nuh (As).
These three Prophets faced the same types of people and each kind of people were
destroyed
[1] Prophet Hud, and the people of Aad. A storm killed the people of Aad. Their huge bodies
were a favour from Allah. Prophet Hud and Nuh replied in the same way to the evil people
(7:61/7:67) I am indeed a messenger of the Lord of the worlds. Allah cut off the root of
those people who denied the signs.
[3] Prophet Salih (As) not to harm the she camel. But they did not believe. The poor listened
to Him, but the wealthy were arrogant and proud and did not believe in him. They were
destroyed by an earthquake.
[2] Prophet Lut (as)- they were punished for being impure and marrying men and not women.
Allah destroyed them with rocks from Hell and they were stoned. It rained on them- hellish
rain. (Dead sea)
SECTION 11: Ayaat 85-93
Prophet Shuayb: When he preached the message of Allah, Tawheed. But they did not
listen. They deceived people in buying and selling. They gave less for a larger price.
Boys on the streets- mentioned in these Ayaat. People fear big gangs of people on streets.
Dont sit on every path, threatening and averting (7:86)
Lesson from Mufti Saab: Allah could have destroyed us because of our bad deeds, but he
didnt because of Rasool sw. They were destroyed.
SECTION 12: Ayaat 94-99
Allah said he tried and tested people, those who showed humbleness, but they didnt take
advice from the signs. We granted them things to test them, we can take them away.
Allah gives halal provision for those who believe and fear Allah.
(7:121) They said: We believe in the lord of the universe. (7:121) They said this
because they knew magic ends. Pharaoh said do you believe in God before my permission,
He gave himself such a high position. Pharoah said he is their Lord. (Astaghfirullah). He
said I will give you death sentence, they said l 7:125 We are to return towards our Lord.
Best success to leave the Dunya with your Imaan.
DU`A FOR PATIENCE: 7:126 Give us Sabr
Dialogue between Musa and the Pharaoh, the leader of pharaohs people said Musa was a
very talented magician. People always fear someone else is taking over and we are losing
power. The prophets did not come to take over, or to gain kingdom. They have come to
guide them towards Allah.
Same with Rasool, they said he wants the kingdom, he wants wealth and he wants women.
That was their corrupt mentality.
LESSON: When you think evil about good people- it is a sign your heart is in a bad
place.
The evil people said to keep an eye on Musa as he is causing problems on earth. Pharaoh
said we will kill their sons and keep the women.
Musa ass people had a very corrupt nature, Allah swt said he could replace these people
with better people who dont cause corruption.
Musas people were disobedient, he was very angry. He spoke to Haroon his brother, and
asked why he did not stop them. The people thought Haroon was very weak as he was only
one person.
The people worshipped the calf, Allah will humiliate them. They committed sin and
repented- Allah will accept the repentance.
70 people were chosen by Musa (As)- key people to take to Mount Tur. They wanted to
listen to Allahs word. Earthquake took place and the people were killed. Musa as made
Du`aa that if they are killed the people will think he killed them. So Allah brought them
back to life.

Who are the true believers: These actions are explained: they give shelter (8:72) they
fight their Nafs, and fight in the way of Allah Fi Sabeelillah.
Those that didnt come with Rasool- they have no link with belief. Living in MAKKAH- was
supporting with the non-believers.
Hijrah was very important to show your support.
Lesson: show your support with right doers.
Muslims in difficult situations help them, until there is a contract between yourselves
Surah Tawbah- Bismillah is not written. Different views about this. Surah Tawba is like Surah
Anfaal, for this reason there is no Tasmiyyah. Two separate Surahs Tasmiyyah are written.
Ayaat 1 - 12
{This portion deals with the sanctity of treaties and lays down principles, rules and regulations
which must be kept in view before breaking them, in case the other party does not observe them
sincerely.}
Announcement from Allah to the Mushriks- there was a contract between them. They
broke it. Allah advises the Muslims; If they (mushrik) are not doing any wrong then protect
them and help them. And be peaceful with them also. Muslims are given permission to
defend and attack if someone if they harm them.
LESSON: Establish these sorts of facilities in Masjids, if someone wants shelter give it to
them!
Then give him protection that he may hear the word of Allah. (9:6)
Responsibility on the Muslim to provide the transport and bring people to Muslims. Look
after them, they should feel welcome to join you.
Ayaat 7-16
9:16- Allah will not leave you alone. He knows your struggles
Everyone says Ill do a favour for you.countries say that today. That we will help you,
but they take over and destroy. They lie (Iraq, Afghanistan etc) Hidden agenda is

SECTION 2: Ayaat: 13 - 37
{In this portion the Muslims have been urged to fight in the Way of Allah with the mushrik Arabs,
the Jews and the Christians, who were duly warned of the consequences of their mischievous
and inimical behavior.}
SECTION 3: 17-24
{In this discourse, the Muslims have been told clearly and explicitly that they will inherit the
rewards promised by Allah only if they take active part in the conflict with kufr, for that is the
criterion which distinguishes true Muslims from hypocrites. Therefore true Muslims should take
active part in Jihad, without minding dangers, obstacles, difficulties, temptations and the like.

going to move. The hypocrites stayed behind and were very happy they didnt go. Allah
said you are scared of this warm and hot weather, but hell fire is hotter!
Laugh less and cry more for yourself. Your destination is Allah.
If someone without belief died (ABDULLAH IB UBAY) died, so Allah said dont lead the
prayer of hypocrites and disbelievers. We are not allowed to take part in other religions
funeral prayer. Give condolences to the family.
These hypocrites were happy to stay at home with the women and not work hard.
LESSON: Give a peaceful life for women, look after them and provide for them.
{In the concluding portion, general instructions have been given to the Believers for their

Surah Themes:
Tawhid Akhirah
Prophets Nuh, Musa, Harun
Makkans challenging Rasool-Allah
Proofs of the doctrines of Tawhid, Providence and Life-after-death have been given by such
arguments as may satisfy the minds and hearts of those who listen to the Message without
prejudice and bigotry with the sole intention of safeguarding themselves against deviation and its
evil results and not for the sake of seeking opportunities for useless discussions.
Those misunderstandings which were (and always are) hindering people from accepting the
doctrines of Tawhid and the Hereafter, have been removed and they have been warned to guard
against those negligence that stand in their way.
Those doubts have been removed and answers to those objections given which were being raised
about the Prophethood of Muhammad (Allah's peace be upon him) and the Message brought by
him.
Graphic descriptions of the life in the Hereafter have been presented in order to warn the people
beforehand so that they should mend their ways here and be not sorry afterwards for their
conduct in this world.
They have been admonished and warned that the life in this world is really a test and a trial, and
that the time allowed for it is only up to the last moment of the earthly life, and that this is the
only opportunity that shall be given to them for accepting the Message and achieving success in
the test. Therefore, they should make the best use of the opportunity that has been provided for
them by the appointment of Prophet Muhammad (Allah's peace be upon him) for their guidance
and obtain the true knowledge of the Reality from the Quran that is being sent down to him.
Otherwise, they shall be remorseful forever and ever.
Their attention has been drawn to some of their acts of manifest ignorance and deviation which
were the direct result of discarding Divine Guidance from their lives. In this connection, the story
of Prophet Noah has been related in brief and that of Prophet Moses in detail in order to impress
four things on the minds:- First, "As your behavior towards Prophet Muhammad (Allah's peace be
upon him) is like that of the peoples of Prophet Noah and Prophet Moses towards them, you
should know it for certain that you also shall meet with the same consequences which they met
with." Secondly, "You should not be deluded into believing by the helpless and weak condition of
the Prophet and his followers, you are witnessing today, that it will always remain like this. You
should know that the same All-Powerful Allah Who supported Prophets Moses and Aaron, is
supporting them and that He changes the circumstances in such a sudden and thorough manner
that none can foresee it."
Thirdly, "If you do not make use of the term that has been granted to you by Allah and mend your
ways now, and postpone this to the last moment like followers of the Holy Prophet have been
reassured that they should not lose heart because of the severity of the circumstances created by
their opponents, especially at the time when they themselves were in an utterly helpless
condition. They have also been given instructions as to how they should carry on their Mission
under those harsh conditions. Moreover, they have been warned to be on their guard against the
kind of behavior which was adopted by the Israelites, when they were rescued by Allah from the
tyranny of the People of Pharaoh.
When a person is in trouble he will call Allah in each moment, sitting, standing or lying.
And when Allah relieves the difficulty, the person acts as though he did not even call on
Allah and this is a very selfish character. This is the nature of selfish people- they use
them. Allah says the human being does this with Allah swt also.
The people would say to Allah that the Quran was very strict, so why dont you change it
a little bit.
Rasool-Allah said its not from me, its from Allah. 10:15 Its not for me to change it onmy
own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me
Rasool-Allah got a lot of respect from his own community. They gave him the names as
sadiq and al-amin.
Rasool-Allah saw said Allah ordered me, otherwise I would have carried on living with you
and talking to you in the same way. He now began speaking to them in a beautiful way and
reciting the Quranic verses- these are signs that its not form him. Allah ordered him to
preach.
Allah mentions the things He doe, the provision, the rain, our sight etc.
Allah speaks of resurrection and how we will b raised again.
Quran is confirmation of previous books- with no doubt. It is form Allah.
They would say to the prophet that he has made it upDo they say, he has fabricated
it?... 10:38
If you think a human made the Quran, then produce a surah like it with all your helpers.
Allah challenges them.
SECTION 5: Ayaat 41- 53
Allah mentions the Quran is a Shifa (cure) all the spiritual diseases are cures by the
Quran. It is a guidance and mercy for the believers. When Allah shows mercy on you show
happiness- it is good for you
Allah mentions the things he provided through his rizq
Whatever Allah makes halal, none can say its Haraam. And other way round.
Allah is so merciful most people are ungrateful.
Allah made the night and day signs for believers; so reflect! Ou every
If you are reciting the Quran or doing something good, Allah swt is with you -everywhere,
nothing is hidden from Allah.
Friends of Allah- will have glad tidings in this world and the next. Do not grieve over what
the people sometimes peoples words hurt and discourage other.
Allah is saying to the Rasool, dont be disheartened, Allah knows your hard work and
sincerity. So continue
LESSON: Continue working hard, Allah knows what you do!
Nuh (As) stood up to the people. Be steadfast and Allah will give you great help and you
will succeed.
Rasool-Allah mentioned Imaan in three stages: stop with power, speak against it, if you
cant do anything at least you should hate it with your heart. If there is no hatred in the
heart for evil actions then there is no Imaan. Be careful.
Allah said if people have a doubt about the Deen, commit to the faith: I worship Allah who
gives death, I am ordered to be a believer.

Glad tidings came to prophet Ibrahims wife- Sarah. She was old and barren, and she did
not understand how this could happen. The angel said do not be surprised, as its the

Ibrahim as questioned Allah about Prophet Lut, Allah said not to worry about them. Angels
came to Lut (as)s people and they were beautiful. Lut (as)s people were marrying men
and doing Haraam, he told them to marry women, even his own daughters.
Prophet Lut (as) asked if there was a single person among them who had sense? They
replied they only had desire for men.
Allah destroyed them with stones, and it rained on them. Angels lifted the earth they lived
on and flipped it upside down.
SECTION 8: Ayaat 84- 95:
The people didnt accept Musaa teachings rather they listened to pharaoh. They are

Two groups- those sent to fire, and those saved from hell fire.
Allah gives his blessings and bounties to those in Jannah
SECTION 10: Ayaat 110- 123
The prophets worked hard, believers work hard, but Allah know this
11:115 And be patient, Allah does not waste the reward of the righteous.
Good deeds wipe out the bad deeds, to rid of bad habits, replace them with good ones.
11:114 No doubt good deeds obliterate evil deeds.
LESSON: We want a quick solution- be patient!
In Taif the Prophet and his companions walked 100 miles to be rejected, they were
stoned. Rasool-Allah (saw) made duaa to Allah, then revelation came. Relief came in the
form of revelation and glad tidings from Allah.
The Jews also wanted to test the Prophet (Saw) so they asked some disbelieving Quraysh
to ask Rasool-Allah (saw) why they Family of Yaqub moved from the Holy land (Jerusalem)
to Egypt.
The Jews knew of this, but no Arab could have known this narrative, then Allah swt
revealed the story there and then and the Prophet (Saw) recited it.
Stories in the Quran: Types of stories in the Quran:
1.
About the prophets and messengers and their people
2.
About certain individuals or groups e.g. Luqman, Maryam, Dhul Qurnayn
3.
Seerah events of Rasool-Allah (saw)
Purpose of the Stories (Qasas):
1. To teach Hikma (wisdom (4:5)
2. To show the greatness of Allahs justice (Surah Hud: 101)
3. To give glad tidings to the grateful people (AlQamar:34-35)
4. To increase the faith of believers (Ar-Rum:47)
5. To warn disbelievers (Muhammad:10)
6. To strengthen the message of Rasool-Allah (Saw) (Hud:49)
Prophet Yusuf: A whole Surah is dedicated to him, for his patience and difficult life. A lesson for
all of us. Patience with which you dont complain- this is called Fa sabrun jameel.
Opening Statements: The exposition
{Ayaat 1- 3}
Opening first few letters. Poetry was popular at the time of the Prophet, the Quran challenged
the people to make something similar. It is unique in its literary form.
Ayaat= Four meanings for this word. Ayaat is a verse or line of the Quran. It also means a sign.
there are signs in the universe (night and day). Ayaat can also mean miracles, as well as lessons.
As these signs hold lessons for us.
Surat Rad continues that conversation in its opening verse, as if saying, Now that you
know It [the Quran] is not made up, what is It and how is It guidance?
This Surah has 43 ayat that are divided into small sections. It is full of contrast throughout
these verses. Here is a brief overview of the topics.
The first verse is an argument by itself: the stable nature of revelation and the authentic
source of revelation in contrast with the stubborn nature of the kuffar. As awesome as this
revelation is, most of them will not come to accept it.
In the second to fourth verses, Allah describes the kingdom of the skies. Allah is telling us
about the place where the revelation is coming from. He the Most High is telling us He
wants the rule of Allah to be established on the earth, but it is already established in the
skies from where the revelation has come.
Then Allah tells us that they find this revelation weird and they have no reason to; rather
Allah has reason to it weird that they feel this way.
In verses seven to eleven, the people return to their mantra of asking for a sign in order
that they may believe. Allah responds that He the Most High knows what the people are
doing in their deflection.
In verses twelve to thirteen, Allah points to a sign. Look to the thunder and lightning in the
sky.
Then, Allah proceeds. Now that you know Allahs Power, like in any religion where people
raise their hands in prayer or worship, why would you ask anyone else? Allah mentions the
futility of making duaa (supplicate) to anyone else.
Next, Allah talks about that which comes after thunder and lightning rain. Allah uses the
example of rain to talk about a process in creation that He the Most high has. It is a
cleansing process. This is part of the sunnah (tradition) of Allah in creation. So if you know
that Allah cleans away filth, why do you think you are safe if you do not believe? This is a
very powerful example in the Quran.
In contrast, Allah congratulates those who believe and may the disbelievers be cursed. It is
inevitable.
So the disbelievers wonder why the believers are being congratulated if they themselves
(the disbelievers) are enjoying blessings in this world? Allah addresses this issue in verse
twenty-six. It is like a dialogue.
In verses twenty-seven to thirty-two, the people again ask for a miracle. Now, Allah tells
them instead of asking for a miracle, why do they not reflect upon Allahs Names and
Qualities/Attributes. If they do not want to do that, leave them alone; let them continue
to make fun of this religion.
Allah then turns back in response. Obviously if you do not reflect upon the Names of Allah
you have no consideration for tawhid.
In the thirty-third to thirty-sixth verses, basically Allah tells the people their shirk has no
value, no truth to it. No one will come to help them in the end. Allah rhetorically asks the
mushrikun why they are not more like the people they themselves consider more
intelligent than them (i.e. the People of the Book). There is a group from the People of
the Book who were so delighted and overjoyed that the revelation (the promise of Allah)
had come in their lifetime. Another group from among them, however, were like the
mushrikun. They because of the deviations and crookedness they had introduced in their
religion, had become losers just like you. And the Messenger is being told to not be swayed
by them; they will seem educated, but they will have their own agenda.
In verses thirty-eight to forty-three, Allah is speaking to the Messenger. Messengers were
sent before him on a mission and now he is being sent on a mission. They are asking for
signs and Allah is showing them signs little by little. There is an interesting twist this surah
presents at the end; a new kind of argument. The parable to what Allah is showing them is
directly related to thunder. We will discover that when we get to the end.
Ayaat 3:
And He is the One Who stretched the earth out and He placed in it pegged ones and rivers. And
from all kinds of fruit He placed in it two pairs. He causes the night to cover the day (or He
causes the day to cover the night). In all of that there are multiple signs for people who want to
put the effort of thinking (they want to engage themselves in thought).
Rawaasiya | Word Analysis: A word for mountains. It is when the larger part of the mountain is
below the earth, and the smaller part of the mountain is above the earth.
Also, what land seems more stretched than the desert? It seems to extend forever and ever. For
this reason, when Allah mentions that land has been stretched out, the Arabs can very easily think
that this is referring to them and personalize the address.
The imagery Allah has depicted for us is land, mountains, and then rivers flowing through them.
Keep this imagery in mind because it will be used again in the surah.
Obviously, if there is such fertile land (i.e. irrigated with rivers and protected by mountains),
there will be plenty of fruit. Interestingly, Makkah does not enjoy this! It is surrounded by two
mountains, it has the zamzam water supply, but it does not have fruit coming to it from that land.
Instead, its fruits come to it from everywhere else. [Ibrahim alayhi as-salam had prayed to Allah
that his family be provided from all kinds of fruit (14, 37), so Allah provided for the area through
the caravans of the winter and summer (106, 2)].
Every fruit is of two kinds of variations. Some scholars say this is the female and male species of
plants; other fruits have both kinds together; other fruits have two flavors (e.g. tasty from one
tree, but not as tasty from another tree).
Ayaat 4:
And especially in the land, barks of tree that are right next to each other and gardens of grapes
and all kinds of crops and palm trees growing from a single stem or from several stems, watered
with one water. And We give preference to some over others in the texture of fruit. In all of that
there are many miraculous thoughts for those who apply their intellect (give thought).
Tajaawira | Word Analysis: Literally, it means to be neighbors to one another. It is like looking
down the road and seeing rows and rows of trees, even though they were not planted this way.
Sinwaan | Word Analysis: For a date palm to become firm and to stand on a single stem.
To be made of many branches
Why water?
Allah is making mention of different kinds of trees being watered with one water source to make
us think deeply. In this surah, we learn repeatedly that water is a parallel for revelation itself.
Water is pure and it purifies. Revelation is pure and it purifies. Water comes from the sky and
gives life to the earth. Revelation comes from the sky and give life to the earth. Water comes,
different kinds of plants benefit. Revelation comes, different kinds of people benefit. And
sometimes the same tree is drinking the same water from its roots and supplying it to all of its
fruits, but some fruits will come out rich, and others will come out poor. This is just like
households where one person may believe and another will not.
Next time you think about the plants in a garden, think about the different people and how they
vary in their response to the same message.
Some plants are also able to give life to other plants. For example, trees that give shade to shadeloving plants. Messengers are like this; they take all the heat and they provide all the shade,
while themselves having the deepest roots.
Aghlaal | Word Analysis: This refers to chains that tie multiple things together. This is one
person being chained by the neck, linked to the next person, linked to more people. When one is
pulled, they are all yanked. In some narrations we learn that one is chained to the people he
misguided; also to the people that he did not take any responsibility for (he did not make dawah
to them). All of us fall into this possibility.
These people will have metal around their neck while they are in fire. So the metal itself will also
be burning. The next surah will also talk about chains, but it will refer to them as asfaad;
handcuffs would be this type of chain.
Ayaat 6:
They are rushing you to show the evil (harm, wrong, punishment) before the good, while there
has already occurred before them punishments like that (that they can picture). And your Master
is the possessor of great forgiveness for people despite their wrongdoing. And indeed, your
Master is intense in dishing out consequences.
These people were not asking for good from Allah. They were only asking for the punishment
because they thought they were ready for whatever would come their way.
Mathulaat | Word Analysis: Plural of muthla, from mithaal (example). It is a form of punishment
that becomes exemplary. It becomes a deterring example for others.
It also means for an image to appear in the mind. So it is a punishment that when it is described,
the picture comes to your mind.
These people are asking for punishment, but Allah has not even closed the gates of forgiveness for
them. The fact that they are even asking for the punishment and Allah is not presenting it is a
form of forgiveness for them because once the punishment comes, everything is complete and
done.
They ought most definitely not confuse this forgiveness as lack of delivering intense outcomes.
Ayaat 7:
And those who disbelieved they say and they keep saying, Why has not a sign been sent down to
him from his Master? You are just a warner and every nation has a guide.
They are asking for a sign so the Messenger of Allah is asking Allah to provide him the sign to
show the people. In response, Allah is saying that his job is only to warn.
Ayaat 8:
Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs suck in and get bigger. And
everything with Him is by due measure.
They are asking for punishment as if they do not think that Allah knows what they are really
asking about. Allah knew about them before they even knew about themselves!
Allah knows what every female (not just the woman!) carries even before she knows that shes
carrying something.
People cannot think they are getting away with anything they are doing. Allah kept track of
whatever was happening and whatever we were doing even when each of us were inside the
wombs of our mothers.
Ayaat 9:
The Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, the Great, the Possessor of the Greatest Heights.
Al-Kabir (the Great) is contrasted with how small we were inside of our mothers. And Al-Mutaal
you are low, Allah is High. Elevation is a repeated message in this surah (highest skies, mountains,
Allah Himself).
Saaribu | Word Analysis: Meaning to flow or move. It also means an animal hole. So someone
trying to hide even in the day. There is no hiding from Allah and going unnoticed.
Ayaat 11:
For each human being a small band of Angels has been assigned in front of him and behind him
and they are guarding him by Allahs command. Indeed, Allah does not change the state of a
people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends harm to come to any
group of people, there is no turning back (e.g. no cancelling it). And beside Him, you are not
going to find any protector whatsoever.
Aqqaba | Word Analysis: It means to follow someone closely (e.g. even if they are climbing a
mountain you are keeping up with them). Think of car chases when the follower is not letting go.
This is like the idea of having Guardian Angels; each of us has a small band of them closely
following us. Their job is to make sure that we do not die before our prescribed time. Some say
that the band of Angels is referring specifically to the Messenger of Allah . As in, he does
not need to fear anything from the disbelievers because he has a band of Angels protecting him
from in front and behind. So why would you worry about the Messenger of Allah? Instead, you
should worry about yourselves because Allah will not change the condition of a people until they
change what is in themselves. In other words, punishment for you is inevitable.
Waal | Word Analysis: Wali is more constant. Waal is the ismfail so it carries immediacy. As in
you will not find a protector for yourselves even standing up at this moment.
Ayaat 12:
He is the One Who shows you lightning and in the lightning there is fear and there is hope, and
He elevates/raises really heavy clouds
Hope because if the land is dry and you see a little bit of lightning, you will be hoping for rain. In
(2, 17), we have another parable of a person who is completely lost, then there is lightning and he
sees where to go. So the lightning is a source of hope.
The thunder is a form of Allahs tasbih by doing His hamd. The thunder is the sky doing tasbih. So
when we hear thunder, we should automatically make tasbih and hamd of Allah the Most High.
For us, thunder seems scary. Yet, Allah is telling us that the thunder and the Angels are making
tasbih from fear of Him. This thunder and lightning are bolting in the sky and these insect-like
human beings are standing on the ground, arguing about Allah? Do you realize what you are
doing?!?
Mihaal | Word Analysis: From mahula, meaning to use extreme force against someone. It also
includes the meaning of planning an attack against someone. It combines the power of hawl
(power) with hila (plotting and planning). So Allah is intense in executing a well-layed out attack
against the enemy.
Ayaat 14:
He alone owns the call of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them at
all, like someone who stretches his hands toward water to reach his mouth, but it is not going to
reach him at all. And the prayers of the disbelievers is nothing but in vain.
Ayaat 15:
To Allah alone everything in the skies and the earth falls in prostration, willingly and
unwillingly, and even their shadows in the morning hours and the evening hours.
Allah mentions the sky (that which is high) first and then He the Most High mentions prostration
(the act of coming low); meaning, high or low, everything kneels to Allah.
[As an aside: it is this part of the surah that makes some scholars assert it is Madani. Other
scholars will say that this is simply foretelling of the migration to Madinah.]
What is the filth of Madinah? The hypocrites, but they are not easy to distinguish. The
impurities of metal do not rise to the top as easily as those of water. Similarly, the
hypocrites are deeply embedded in the Muslim community and are not easily
distinguishable. They need to be put into extreme conditions to be separated (i.e. the heat
of battles). The entire metal is burning just so that a few can be identified and separated.
While burning metal, one of two things is being pursued: jewelry or utensils. One would rather to
get the more valuable item jewelry of course. When a Muslim goes to battle there are two
things in front of him, 1) Paradise and 2) help from Allah and the victory. They are both
legitimate causes, but keep priorities in mind.
Makithina | Word Analysis: Meaning to remain in wait of something. You will not stay here
forever; you will move on. But what are they the believers waiting for?
Ayaat 18:
And those who responded to their Lord, for them is the best [reward], but for those who did not
respond to Him, had they had all that is in the earth entirely and like it, they would try to
ransom themselves with it. Those are the people who are going to have the worst kind of audit.
And their final place is jahannam what a terrible cradle (hug of a mother) that is.
Allah has already told us that the disbelievers were like the filthy foam on water that would be
Ayaat 19:
Then, as for the one who knows what has been sent down to you from your Master is the truth, is
he like the one who is blind? The only people who will make an effort to remember are those
with sound minds -
All the mention of being sent down constantly makes us think of the sky.
Blindness is important to be mentioned here because someone blind cannot appreciate the
greatness of the sky, he cannot even appreciate something coming from below; he just knows it is
there. So the blind would not be able to appreciate that it has come down from the Majesty of
Allah.
Ayaat 20:
those who fulfilled the promise made with Allah and they do not violate the contract,
Mithaaq | Word Analysis: It is a contract where both parties are aware of the seriousness of the

Ayaat 21:
And those who keep joined what Allah has commanded to keep joined and they feared their
Master and they feared the worst kind of audit,
Ayaat 22:
And those who were patient in pursuit of the Face (pleasure) of their Master, and they
established prayer and they spent from whatever We had given to them, secretly and publicly
(openly, announced), and they ward off bad with good they are going to have the ultimate
outcome of a home
Daraa | Word Analysis
Meaning to push somebody hard to get them away from trouble. They are saving themselves by
pushing good deeds ahead of bad deeds (e.g. they follow up any bad deed with good deeds).
Ayaat 23:
the Gardens of Eden they are going to be entering and whoever was righteous among their
ancestry, their spouses, and their descendants. And the Angels are coming at them from every
door [saying]
There are four categories of people who will make it to Paradise i) an-nabiyin, ii) as-siddiqin, iii)
ash-shuhada, and iv) as-salihin.
The Gardens of Eden are from the highest levels of Paradise. Perhaps there are relatives who have
made it to lower levels of Paradise while you are in a higher level an infinite amount of distance
apart. One of the benefits of the people of Paradise will be that you wont be called down, but
they will be called up. The Angels will be escorting people from every one of the multiple doors of
the Garden.
Ayaat 24:
Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And how excellent is the final home.
Allah has not specified who is giving salaam here. It could even be that Allah is the One Who is
giving salaam. Or it could be from the Angels, or the family, or all the other believers.
Ayaat 25:
And those who violate the promise made with Allah even after the covenant was taken and they
cut apart whatever Allah had commanded to keep together and they spread corruption on earth.
Those are the people who have a curse and they will have the worst possible home there can be.
Ayaat 26:
Allah expands the provision of whoever He wants and He contracts it. And they were overjoyed
with worldly life by itself. And what was worldly life in comparison to the next except nothing
but utility.
Yaqdir| Word Analysis: In contrast to yabdir. Also meaning he calculates; so it has the meaning of
being precise and giving someone exactly what s/he deserves.
Ayaat 27:
Those who disbelieve say [again], How come no miracle comes to him from his Master? Tell
them, No doubt about it, Allah misguides whoever He wants and He guides towards Him
whoever is going to return
Munib| Word Analysis: Notice this means to return and so does raja. Munib is used for
returning in the spiritually sense.
They are asking for a miracle again. The point is being made that if they had any intentions of
accepting the miracle and returning to guidance (fitrah), they would have seen it and accepted.
They have no intents of returning to Allah so it wouldnt even matter for them.
Ayaat 28:
(The ones who return are) those who believe and their hearts are content by the remembrance
of Allah. Know that by remembering Allah, hearts become tranquil.
Itminan| Word Analysis: This is comparable to farah (verse 26). Itminan carries constancy. It is
tranquility. The remembrance of Allah calms a person down. The adhkar of Allah in itself is a
healer.
Ayaat 29:
Those who believed and did the few righteous deeds and it is the most beautiful place of
return.
Tuba| Word Analysis: Meaning a joy that brightens up the heart and all the senses. It is not just
emotionally felt; it is exhilaration.
Aaba| Word Analysis: Meaning to return. This is more specific than raja because it is
specifically used for living things. Iyaab is used to mean the trip back.
Husnu maab| Word Analysis: In this is a beautiful hint. Human beings were taken from Paradise.
We will get to come back. What a beautiful return journey to the original home that was made for
the human beings.
Ayaat 30:
That is how We sent you in nation upon nation so that you would recite on to them what had
been revealed on to you. And they disbelieve in Ar-Rahman. Tell them, He is my Master; there
is no one to be worshipped and obeyed in any shape or form but He. Upon Him alone I have
Mataab| Word Analysis: This means return in the physical and spiritual sense.
Ayaat 31:
And if there was a Quran by which mountains would be moved or pieces of the earth would be
chopped up (e.g. earthquakes) or the dead were spoken to by means of it (as in: this would be
it! But these people are like a lost cause.)
Rather the entire decision rests with Allah (He owns the entire matter; they are not in charge of
what Allah will or will not send at all).
Have the believers not lost hope that had Allah wanted He would have guided all of humanity?
(e.g. dont lose hope, dont entertain this thought when you are giving dawah)
And the disbelievers will continue to a terrible calamity will afflict them because of what they
have done and it is still going to afflict them (e.g. no matter what they do, the eventual
consequences coming their way cannot be dispelled) and it will be unleashed very close to their
homes. And the promise of Allah will come. No doubt Allah does not go back on [His] promise.
Ayaat 32:
And messengers were made fun of before too, and I have extended for those who disbelieve;
then I have seized them, then how is My taking revenge.
Ayaat 33:
As for the One that stands over every soul because of what he or she has done (the pause is
here to express disappointment; Are you really going to disbelieve in that One?)
And they have made partners with Allah. Tell them, Name them (those gods). Or are you
informing Him (Allah and the Messenger) of something He does not know about in the land? Or is
it just outwardly speech. (In other words, you dont want to show that the Messenger has
stumped you so you just started making stuff up.)
Rather the case is that for the disbelievers their plotting (their scheming and lying) has been
beautified for them and they were themselves obstructed from the path of Allah and whoever
Allah would mislead they are not going to find any guide whatsoever.
The last portion (they are not going to find any guide whatsoever) is in contrast to Allah saying
earlier (verse 7) that for every community there is a guide. When someone disrespects the gift
from Allah, Allah will remove the guidance from them.
Verse 34
They are going to have punishment in worldly life and the punishment of the next life is far more
difficult. And not for them from Allah will be any Protector whatsoever.
Verse 35
The example of the ultimate garden which has been promised for those who protected
themselves, at the bottoms of which will be rivers flowing. Its fruit are constant (they do not go
bad) and its shade is constant (it will always be there). That is the final home of those who
protected themselves. And the final home of the disbelievers, Fire.
Its like being seated under the shade where you have the perfect breeze, the right amount of
sun, a view of the water and all you can think is how perfect this is. In this world our thoughts
immediately go to how we wish everyday could be like this. In Paradise, every day is like this.
Verse 36
And those to whom We have given the book previously (meaning the Jews and Christians), they
are overjoyed at what has been revealed to you, and among the factions there are those who
deny some of it. Tell them, I have been commanded to worship Allah and to not associate
anyone with Him. To Him alone I call, and to Him is the final journey.
Keep in mind, the Messenger was not an academic. These scholars of the other faiths were
taking advantage of that fact because they were learned and they could come presenting loopholed arguments. That does not matter. The message presents itself and that is its miracle. Their
arguments were faulty and longwinded. The Messenger presented a message that was simple
and easy to accept because it was true.
Verse 37
We should be able to turn to the Quran in our moments of happiness and difficulty. Not just that,
but we should make it easy for other people to feel like they can turn to the Quran themselves in
moments of happiness and difficulty.
Verse 38:
And We have already sent many messengers from much before you and (they were people just
like you) they had wives and children. And it was not becoming for any messenger to come with a
miracle except by Allahs permission. For every deadline there is a documented time.
Verse 39
Allah obliterates (erases) whatever He wants and He maintains whatever He wants. And in His
possession is the Mother of all Books.
The central book of all revelation and everything is with Allah. This is Lawh al-Mahfuz. All of the
scriptures sent were installments from this Book. The Quran is its final installment. Whatever
Allah chooses from these installments to remain on this Earth, remains. Whatever Allah chooses
from these installments to be erased on this Earth, it will be erased.
Verse 40
And if We were to show you even *some* of the things We have promised them or We were to
take you away completely (if that would happen, these people would be finished)
your only responsibility is to communicate a heart-penetrating message (to them), and leave the
accounting to Us.
There would be no stopping punishment for these people if Allah were to take the Messenger
away from them. Not just that, but only some of what Allah has promised for punishment would
be sufficient in destroying these people. That is the magnitude of Allahs power. If they say again
to let the punishment of Allah come, do not worry.
Verse 41
Havent they seen that We are attacking the Earth, cutting it down (reducing it from all sides)?
And Allah, He is the One Who gives a verdict. There is no one to follow up after His verdict (to
change it). And He is quick in taking the audit.
This is the verse where Allah is going to show the people something. It will not, however, be on
their terms.
Have the people of Makkah not noticed that people are coming from all areas to accept the
message (i.e. Abu Dharr al-Ghifaari who will spread it to his tribe)? Have they not noticed people
are coming from everywhere and will take the message back to their people? Have they not
thought that eventually, the message will have spread everywhere and then the only shrub
needing to be pulled out of the ground will be them?
Verse 42
The Messenger is being told to let the people plot whatever they want. It is as if they are on
an island that is already shrinking.
Verse 43
And the disbelievers said, You are not someone who has been sent. Tell them, Allah is enough
as a witness between me and yourselves, and whoever truly has the knowledge of the Book.
The surah ends on a very important point. Allah could have specified that the disbelievers did not
accept any aspect of belief (e.g. the Hereafter), but He specifically chose their disbelief in the
Messenger of Allah .
Just like imaan is basically in three things (in Allah, risalah, akhirah) so is kufr. Everything else
we know about reality is a byproduct of these three things. This surah is ending on a note about
kufr in risalah.
There may, and there are, people who believe in Allah and the Hereafter, but thats not enough.
If you believe in Allah and the Hereafter, your belief cannot be certified and correct until you
believe in the message sent by Allah about them. This can only be transmitted through someone
Allah Himself has taught that would be a messenger.
Then there are other people who may believe in messengers, but they just do not believe in the
messengership of Muhammad . That is also kufr because we do not get to choose which
messengers we like or do not like; just like the messengers do not get to choose whether they are
messengers or not. There is no choice.
One of the reasons disbelievers reject messengers and that becomes the basis of their disbelief
is authority. In our religion, we say we obey Allah, but practically we are following the Messenger
. We are worshipping Allah and doing as He says, but we are doing it because we were
instructed by the Messenger . That should be a point for us to increase our love for Him ,
not to feel arrogant about accepting authority.
For us to accept the Prophet Muhammad is a lot easier than for the people at that time. We
did not see him as a person sitting and eating lunch beside us or anything else and then come
to us with revelation. It would take an incredible amount of faith for people to hear about
traveling to Jerusalem and then Paradise all within a short span of the night. That is real belief in
the unseen. When you hear a man speak and you know those are not his words. That is real belief
in the unseen.
These are the very things commentators ridicule us for today believing that a man spoke to God
and brought Gods words to us. The Messenger did not just give us the words of God, but he
told us what to do and how to do it. We as human beings even have a hard time listening and
Conclusion
Throughout the entire surah, the disbelievers were asking the Messenger to have a miracle
revealed for them. Allah mentioned the miracle to them (verse 41): the land around them is
shrinking. This concept of change arising in the Arab lands is what is carried forward in Surat
Ibrahim.
End Ayaat:
A person who commits many sins, who leads the wrong life- if this person turns back to
Allah, his sins are all removed clean slate. No one can stop him or blame him, he has
returned to Allah. Allah swt removes what he wants and keeps what he wants. It is up to
Allah.
Allah says looks at the signs: SCIENTIFIC MIRACLE- every year the earth is drowned
reduced from its edges. The non believers would say Rasool is not a prophet, Allah said
you dont need affirmation from these people. Allah is my witness between you and me.

The bee has a perfect navigation system, even if they are miles away they know where
their hives are. They have this system in them even though they are so small. The bee is
guided by this system from Allah, it will not make any mistakes in its travels.
Allah speaks of the animals he created to benefit humans.
LESSON: Reflect! Even the smallest insect is sign for the believer and shows Allahs
greatness
SECTION 2
Different bounties are mentioned. Stars guided people in ships,
Allah mentions he placed the mountains in the earth for balance, like nails so the earth
stays in place. After shocks after an earth quake that take place cause imbalance on the
earth, the mountains help fix the earth and re-balance itself.
After mentioning these blessings, Allah says you cannot count all the bounties.
SECTION 3 & 4: Ayaat 26
Allah does not like the proud.
People will take their sin with them all the way up to Judgment day and the sin of those
they misled.
Similarly doing good and guiding others to good will give you more Hasanah.
LESSON: Be careful what you say to others and how you influence themAre you a good
influence or bad?
When the evils souls are being taken out, they will try to escape and ask the angels why
are you taking us like this. Allah says, He knows what you were doing whether you say it or
not.
SECTION 5: Ayaat 35
LESSON: if you have to deny your faith to save yourself, you are allowed. Allah knows the
secrets of your heart. Sometimes you have to do things that may seem strange to others as
there is a greater wisdom behind it

SECTION 1: Ayaat 1-10
Allah speaks of the Isra Wal Miraj Holy is he who carried his bondman by night from the
sacred Mosque to the Aqsa Mosque around which we have put blessings that might show
him our grand sign No doubt he is the hearing, seeing. (17:1)
Allah speaks of the Ban Israeel- Musa (as)s people. They received the book from Allah and
guidance.
(17:7) If you do good its for yourself, if you do wrong, you only do bad for yourself.
Allah mentions punishment and reward together. Good and bad are mentioned together.
Allah swt is forgiving but he is also Jabbar and Qahar. Allahs punishment is also severe.
SECTION 2: Ayaat 11- 22
Judgment day- self assessment.
Allah swt says It will be said to him read your book. Today you yourself is good for your
reckoning. (17:14) Your skin will speak, your eyes will speak, your whole body will be a
witness against you.
Take yourself into account before Allah takes you into account.
SECTION 3: Ayaat 23-30
(17:23-24) To be good and humble to parents, as they raised us when we were young.
Rahma. Always show Rahma.
Tawheed and looking after parents is mentioned in the same Ayaat. It shows the
importance of parents. Not to even say the smallest thing to upset them.
Ufin- a faint cry.
LESSON: Keyword is Rahma.
SECTION 4: Ayaat 31-40
Major sins are mentioned killing, adultery etc.
Dont be nice and polite to opp. Gender
Not eating the wealth of orphans, and dont give less to people when giving a measure.
Not to be nosy and arrogant.
SECTION 5: Ayaat 41-52
Allahs Qadr is mentioned if they are truthful (Mushrik) then the throne wouldnt have
been for Allah alone. Alone is high above what they say about him.
When Allah is mentioned alone in the Quran, they turn away with hatred. Sometimes we
accidently do this, if there is a gathering where Quran is mentioned, they want to leave
that gathering. Dont behave like this, Allah does not like it. Some people dont like Allahs
Dhikr- bad behaviour.
Pharaoh said to Musa, you are hypnotised. Musa said to Pharaoh none sent these down
except the lord of the heavens and earth
Musa said you will be destroyed. Musa (as)s words came true.
He wanted musa and his people to leave the town, instead Allah drowned pharaoh and his
people.

THEMES: The people in the cave Other stories of Prophets Prophet Musa Judgment
Day
This is the third Manzil of the Quran
SECTION 1 & 2: Ayaat 1-12-17
No crookedness in the Quran, it warns the disbelievers and gives glad tidings to the
believers.
We may test them as to which of them is best in works. (18:7)
Did you know that the men of the cave and of the forests side, were of Our wonderful
signs. (18:9)
Allah (swt) is telling us the story of the people in the cave.
They were a few youth who believed in Allah, Allah (swt) increased them in their Imaan
and strengthened them. They had strong faith and left the community as everyone around
them was doing Shirk. They left the city, and they belonged to the Royal family at that
time. The king was forcing others to polytheism. The King said he would kill these youth if
they did not adopt the religion. They were only a few.
They made Duaa for Allahs mercy, and that Allah eases their situation. So Allah (swt)
gave them shelter in the cave.
Allah (swt) that He (swt) increased them in guidance. If you truly believe in Allah, he will
support you and strengthen you. The truth always takes over. Whenever Islam was
challenged Allah gave people strong Imaan and Allah helped them take over.
Shah Abdul Aziz- A person challenged the man to throw the Quran and a bible in the fire.
Shah said both of us jump into it holding our books to our chest, whoevers does not burn
will be true. The other man ran away. Shah said to the people I heard a voice saying that
the fire will be cool like it was for Ibrahim (as).
Biggest Dajal is on the inside- the Nafs. Start practising then face Dajal. Whoever recites
this on a Friday, Allah swt will protect you from the Fitna of Dajal. Dajal means deceptionworldly deception. The word Zina comes in the Quran many times.
Allah swt said he made everything on the earth beautiful and attractive, to test and trial
the people. Zinat in urdu to describe something beautiful.
LESSON: Make Du`aa Allah saves us form the deception of the Nafs and Shaytaan.
No one found the people in the cave, the King passed away and time had gone past. Allah
swt put them to sleep. They thought they slept for a few hours, or a day. One of them
went out to get food for them, he went out to discover time had changed. His coins were
old compared to theirs.
People dispute over how many people there were, even though these people dont practise
Deen, yet they worry about these mediocre things. Someone rang Mufti Saab and asked
was it a black or white dog with them? He said read your five prayers and leave this. A sign
of weak faith, these people who indulge in useless talk.
Allah knows the details of the story. Allah says he knows the exact number. Why doesnt
he tell us? The lesson is greater than these small issues.
LESSON: Allah swt will protect you if you are a truthful person. Allah wil
strengthen you and increase your Imaan.
The dialogue between two friends is mentioned, one of the man said to his companion I
have greater wealth than you and am stronger in respect of men. (18:34)
He said, I do not think that it will ever perish. (18: 35)
Arrogance!
The good man said say MashAllah and that Allah swt is the most powerful.
His whole garden was destroyed, his business and property was ruined.
Zina again- wealth and children are a beauty of this world. Judgment day is mentioned,
and how every thing is recorded.
(18:50) Shaytaan was a Jin And remember when we ordered angels to prostrate before
Adam then all prostrated save Iblees. He was of the Jin (18:50)
People will stand at the edge of hell fire. Allah swt there will no help for them and no
chance to be saved.
Allah swt said he gave many different examples and stories for people to understand. Yet
the people still argued back and did not accept.
The wrong doers are those who ignore the signs and do not take the Naseeha (Advice).
There is an appointed time for everyone and everything. This is a fixed time, that none
escape.
Prophet Musa (as) was a prophet, but Khizr (as) still had knowledge more than Musa (as).
Despite Khizr (as) having a lower rank than him. A lesson in humility- All knowledge is
from Allah, seek it from everywhere and do not disregard those who are less in rank/age
etc.
Khizr (As) placed some conditions; he told him to be patient and not question.
The people asked Musa (As) who has the most knowledge, Musa said i do. Allah swt did not
like this, so he sent him to kHIZR (as) to teach him a lesson.
Imam ahmed bin Hambal, did not teach people for a few weeks, but allowed them to stay
at the Dars. He was watching them to see how they spent their day and night. He who
offered Tahajud prayer and told him to come to the lesson. Those who didnt, he told
them to leave. As he said I want to teach those people who have time for Allah.
Now things change. Now students put conditions on teacher, hence we dont see the
Barakah in things. People would come to Shuyookh to gain light from Allah.
Khizr (as) placed holes in a poor familys boat. Musa did not understand why he damaged
their property. He did it so the evil King would not take their faulty boat Khizr (as) killed a
young innocent boy, again Musa did not understand why. A wall was falling, and Khizr just
touched it and it fell into place. Musa (as) asked why you didnt ask for a wage.
Dhul Qurnayn was a very pious person, people call him Alexander the Great, but they are
not the same person.
Dhul Qurnayn was a king, but he listened to the peoples request about them.
Yajuj and Majuj- people say different things about these people. Allah swt knows best,
and he knows who they are.
He built an iron wall with the people to stop these tribes (Yajuj and Majuj) from causing
destruction.
(18:109) Say you, if the sea be the ink for the worlds of my lord, then necessarily the
sea would be exhausted and the words of my Lord would not come to an en, though We
may bring the like of it for help.
The ocean will finish, but Allahs praise will never finish.
Those people whose efforts are destroyed in this people, these people still think they are
doing good. How? By achieving worldly success. People may praise him, yet he is doing
wrong. When one earns haraam and feeds his family with this, he is feeding his family fire
and coal. You worked hours and hours for the Dunya, but you dont pray for five minutes.
They think they are doing good, but they are in the biggest loss. They have no value at all
on judgment day.
Then Allah mentions the good people.
Rasool-Allah mentions he is man like them, and he brings the message of Tawheed.
Islam respect other religions, Christians revere Mary, and Allah (Swt) dedicated a whole
chapter on her.
Zakaria (as) wanted a child to carry on the message, not for themselves. But to carry the
message of Allah. Zakarias son was Yahya. He made a Du`aa for a child. He knew he was
old and his wife was barren. Zakaria did not understand, Allah swt said it is easy for Allah.
Qualities of Yahya are mentioned: He was a pious, soft hearted person. He was obedient to
his person, and was not arrogant.
Maryam (As) was a way from the people and Jibraeel (as) approached her in the form of a
man. She did not understand how she could have a child being unmarried.
She was feeling ashamed, and could not face the people. She was living in the Masjid, but
she went very far to give birth.
How was she feeling? Despite being of such a high maqaam, she was still human.
Oh would that I had died before this and had become a thing forgotten, lost.(19:23)
Allah swt supported her in this difficult time, Allah swt is with his servant. Allah swt
caused a river to flow, and brought down dates for her. Allah told her to shake the tree;
LESSON: You have to put effort in to achieve something.
The Mufasireen (scholars of tafsir) saif the tree was a dry tree. A miracle from Allah.
Allah swt told her to take a vow of silence when returning back to the people.
She pointed to Isa (as), Allah gave him the ability to speak. The first thing he said was
(Inee Abdullah) I am a servant of Allah (19:30)
This is Isa, the son of Maryam, a word of truth in which they doubt. (19:34)
Allah increases you in guidance And those who got guidance, Allah will increase them in
guidance (19:76) Imaan does not decrease, it increases by Allahs will.
Whenever Quran was revealed to the Makkans, they would say who has more worldly
possessions, they would compare in terms of wealth. So they assumed they were better in
terms of religiosity and respect. Respect in Allahs (metaphorical) hands.
Shaytaan plays with the disbelievers like a child plays with toys, dont allow
Shaytaan to juggle with you. Tu-uza hum aza (19:83)
Those who work hard, Allah swt puts love in their hearts and he will create for you
a good circle of people. Allah is Ar-Rahman, he places Rahma in whoevers heart
he pleases.
- End of Surah -
Du`a of Musa (as): He made Du`a Allah swt makes it easy for him to speak, make the
task easy, and to open His chest. (20:25)
As a child Musa (As) was in the pharaohs lap, and was pulling the beads of his beard. The
pharaoh said, I think he may take over my kingdom when he is older.
His wife Asiyah said if this is so, then place coal in front of him and see what he does, then
he placed coal in his mouth and Angel Jibraeel made it cool for him. And his tongue was
damaged. This is one opinion.
Another is he made this Du`aa so people understand him better.
LESSON: If you are preaching on a mission, dont show any weakness in the Dhikr
of Allah, call the people with Allahs remembrance.
Musa (AS) is a prophet, yet his human nature was still present. When he saw the snake he
was still afraid. Fearing is not a sin, its in our nature.
Qiyama is mentioned: all voices will be low, no ones intercession will help, faces will be
cast down, the Muslims not be afraid.
Adam (as)s story is mentioned again.
Ayaat 11- 29
They glorify Him night and day and intermit not. (21:20)
Whenever an admonishment comes, they listen to it but carelessly. Their hearts are not
taking heed to the message. They say weve heard this before. We see this today, many
people sit in good places but take it lightly and not seriously. Allah does not like this kind
of behaviour.
Different stories of prophets are mentioned also to prove Risalah (Prophethood).
If there were more than one God, the whole system of the universe would be destroyed.
Allah is proving logically, there is one command and everything is under His command.
Ayaat 30-41
SCIENTIFIC MIRACLE: Everything is made of water And we made every living thing from
water.
Kulu fi falakin- both ways its the same letters. Going and coming back, each one is floating
in circumference. (21:33)
Ayaat 42-50
Qiyama is mentioned- they will have a long life, and suddenly they will be caught in the
punishment without any relief. Even the smallest thing in the earth will be brought
forward.
Musa (as) and Harun are mentioned.
Dhikr-U-Allah is another name for the Quran.
Ayaat 51-75
Story of Ibrahim breaking the idols, Allah swt made the fire cool for Him. Jibraeel (as)
came and said do you need me? Ibrahim said; No, Allah is enough for me. Hasbi Rabi.
Ibrahim said Allah knows I am going into the fire, and he will save me if he wishes.
Ibrahim was asking why you are taking them as Gods and worshipping them when they do
not help or harm you. Khariquhu beat him/kill him. When they cant face the truth they
want to get rid of him.
Prophet Lut (as) is mentioned also. He and Ibrahim (As) were around at the same time.
Ayaat 76-93
Prophet Nuh is mentioned, Ahl means family. Allah joins the good people together.
Dawud and Sulayman (As)- whenever Dawud did Dhikr, the mountains and birds did Dhikr
with him also. Allah made the creatures glorify Allah with Dawud (AS). He had a beautiful
voice. Dawud would make armour with his hands, he could melt the metal with his hands
Sulayman- had a big kingdom. Ismaeel, Dhul Khifl and Yunus (as) are mentioned.
A whale or similar creature swallowed Yunus (As), in that darkness, he began doing dhikr.
He said, Oh Allah you are the only God and all glory be to you, I am from the
wrongdoers. A lesson for us, dont think you are righteous.
Allah accepted his Du`aa and gave him relief from his sadness and grief.
This is your nation- one nation of pious people.
First ayaat starts with oh mankind fear your lord, verily the earthquake on judgment
daythe last earthquake when everything is destroyed.
Allah describes what the people will be like, the people will be senseless, and they will
not understand anything.
Then Allah speaks of the fetus
Ayaat 11- 22
Ayaat 23- 33
Hajj is mentioned
Ibrahim was ordered to announce hajj, and Allah enabled people all over the word to hear
his announcement announce in the people about hajj, they will come by foot, they will
come from far distances
Example 31 Allah has no foothold for those who dont respect Allahs signs if someone
respects the signs of Allah, it shows they fear Allah

Alhamdulilah is one division.

If RASOOL is in his home, do not call him.
Those call Rasool from behind their rooms- They have no Aql, they do not use
reason/they are stupid.
Dont spread news without permission from Rasool (49:1-9) Listen to Rasools decision as
he is the community leader.
Character; (49:9-13)
Dont think bad of others
o HADITH: Rasool said: always think of the believers in a good light.
Not to scoff at others, male or female.
Not to suspect, or backbite (49:11-12)
Allah made us into tribes (49:13
Believers are those who believe IN Allah and rasool (49:15)
Tribes have no value, it is about piety in the sight of Allah
Difference between Muslim and believers
Who are the believers? They NEVER have a doubt about Allah or Rasools teachings, they are
very strong in their Imaan and Deen. (49:15)
Muslims are here and there
Allah knows your Deen!
It is not a favour on Rasool, rather the favour is on you that you are guided (49:17)
