A Story About Our Green School (2011)

We live in the 21st century, the century noted for the development of technology and the
contemporary human progress. However, we have to admit that in the race for better life
somehow people have forgotten about our mother- the Planet Earth!
In this modern time of living we witness the consequences of our greed. We earn much more
money now but we lost the clean air, the clean drinking water, the healthy food...we
destroyed the nature. Nowadays, people are different in nationality, religion, political
orientation... but the only thing that should unite us is the battle to save our home- the Earth!
We are the ones to begin this battle and our children are the ones to continue it and win! This
battle will take us back to the lost and necessary- the clean drinking water, air and healthy
food. This is the main reason why we decided to make the ecology a leading force in our
school's education.We integrated ecological issues in all subjects, in all grades in our
school.In this way we started developing the students' awareness of whatever you do for a
better life you should never forget about Nature. The students in our school have accepted
this dimension very well and they all stood up together for the GREEN FLAG.
We started our battle for saving our environment and we proceeded it in several phases.In the
first phase we established eco-committee consisted of many teachers, students, parents,
representatives of the business sector, the local self government and citizens' associations. All
of them had one purpose: to increase the environmental awareness in our school. We made a
strategy and we started taking actions. In the very beginning, we were dedicating at least 5
minutes in every lecture about ecology. Students were becoming more and more eager to be
creative and to participate in art and literary competitions that we organized. Then the second
phase followed. We started acting ecologically on the very terrain. We planted flowers in the
classrooms and we decorated the halls with environmentally friendly notes.
In the third phase the students created an eco- codex in every classroom, then we collected
their ideas and selected the best ones for making the mutual eco codex for the whole school.
In the next phase we took into consideration the old and not functional stoves for heating in
the classrooms that weren't changed for more than 30 years. Those stoves were old and
broken , releasing a lot of smoke and little heat in the classrooms. They were changed only
with one decision of the eco committee. Soon after, new stoves were purchased and placed in
the classrooms whereas the old ones were sold and recycled. More and more parents were
amazed by our consistency and hard work to change our environment so they started joining
us. They suggested arranging the school yard and we accepted their idea. In short time, the

teachers, the students, the parents for the first time in the history of this small place Bucin
united themselves and together planted trees, flowers, grass. They have changed the yard into
a real place of enjoyment.
The reward GREEN FLAG was the medal awarded to all " green fighters" who in the past
year were a real example of how we should save the nature. Our battle for better environment
didn't stop here. The first eco classroom was placed in the school yard . This will be the place
where many ecological issues can be taught and learned. Our students say:" We are very
happy with our new eco classroom! Here we feel closer to nature! Here we become a part of
the nature! This place is a symbol of our eco victory!
What did we learn from our eco battle?

the lessons became more interesting

everybody started becoming environmentally conscious

we mustn't forget to protect the nature from pollution

Planet Earth is our unique mutual home

we can achieve much more when working together

our battle for better environment, cleaner air, water, food won't stop here

this is the only battle that will unite us

Our aim is:

the GREEN FLAG will become the symbol of our planet. People different in
age, ethnicity, race, religion, political orientation....will unite themselves
singing the ecological hymn and waving with the GREEN FLAG.

I love the "eco-codex" idea! It gets everyone involved and serves as a constant reminder for
the students to keep with their environmental efforts. Great idea!

the "eco-codex" is consisted of students', parents' and teachers' suggestions,ideas and rules
about what should or shouldn't,must or mustn't we do in order to protect and save our
environment!We have it on the walls in the school's hall as a reminder to everybody who
enters and goes out of the school!We all together decided to stick to these rules and respect
our "eco -codex"! You can see it and read it on the slides of our video!
