ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE ECM

10

DEFINITION
The electronic control module (ECM) (1) is the regulator and computer for the fuel circuit. The ECM
receives signals from the sensors to control the engines tuning and operating mode.
The electronic circuit is made up of the ECM, sensors on the engine and inputs from the whole
of the machine. The ECM is the computer. The personalization module is the computer software.
The personalization module contains the performance curves.
The performance curves define the following characteristics of the engine:
Engine power
Torque curves
Engine speed (rpm)
Engine noise
Exhaust and emissions

- Position the gauge 1 (Fig. A) in the tank so that the spring 2

(Fig. C) enters the housing 3 (Fig. A) provided for this purpose
at the bottom of the tank.
NOTE: To guide you, you can empty the tank and insert a light
through the drain hole. 4 (Fig. A).
3
4

- A 12 to 14 mm gap A (Fig. B) between the top of the gauge

and the tank indicates that the gauge is correctly positioned.
If not, reposition the gauge.

Fig.C

- Position the top of the gauge to align the fixing holes with the
tappings on the tank. (The gauge can only be fitted one way
round as the holes are not equidistantly spaced) (Fig. D).
- If necessary remove the remnants of gasket sealant from the
fixing screws.
- Place a copper washer (Ref. 48 499) under the head of each
of the five screws 1 (Fig. D), then fix the assembly to the tank.
- Connect the harness.
- If removed earlier, re-fit the drain plug, then re-fill the tank.

REMOVAL AND RE-FITTING OF PULLEY COLLET (Ref. 1)
7

10

Removal:
- Remove the fan pulley bracket (Ref. 3)
- Remove the fan (Ref. 7)

- Loosen the 6 screws (Ref. 8) a few turns the tap their heads
lightly to release the collet.
8

- Remove the collet (Ref. 1).

Assembly:
- Carefully clean the shaft and internal face of the pulley. Lightly
oil all mating surfaces with mineral oil. (Do not use molybdenum
disulfide based oils)
- Locate the collet (Ref. 1) in the pulley (Ref. 2).

Never drive the collet to the end stop on the pulley shoulder
as this will make future removal very difficult.

- Locate the assembly on the shaft.

- To prevent the collet from twisting, tighten the screws in diagonal
sequence a quarter of a turn at a time, preferably using a torque
wrench, up to 50% of the specified torque, that is to 8,5 Nm.
- Repeat this procedure until the final torque is reached.
Final torque: 17 Nm
6

- Remove the hub from the pulley (Ref. 6) using either a press, a longnosed puller or a brass drift and a hammer
- When fitting the new hub, use the same tools.

10

FAN BELT TENSIONING

- Inspect the fan belt for condition and replace it if necessary.
11
10

- Loosen the bolt (Ref. 9) on the tensioning pulley.

- Loosen the lock-nut (Ref. 10) and the bolt (Ref. 11).
- Bring the belt just into contact with pulley (Ref. 12)
(on the telehandler, check this operation by feel).

12

- Make a mark on the head of screw (Ref. 11) and tighten, turning
it 5 times.
- Tighten the lock-nut (Ref. 10).
- Retighten tensioning pulley bolt (Ref. 11).

11

When changing the fan belt, retighten bolt (Ref. 11) one
and a half turns, having allowed the diesel engine to idle
for 30 minutes.
