After the fireworks,

2009 became a year that many

wish they could forget.

Our economy tanked.

Our banks failed.
Our wallets shrank.
YET, 2009 WAS A
LANDMARK YEAR FOR ACP

Scaling back to an austere budget, we were dismayed

to see the financial growth from the last several years
disappear so quickly.

But out of the dust arose an opportunity...

...to harvest the fruit of our efforts to be a nimble, fiscally

responsible, and highly regarded community partner.
HOW ACP WEATHERED
THE STORM OF 2009
• Monthly financial meetings between ACP’s Executive Director Amy
Miller and Treasurer Malon Courts, which enabled ACP to implement
cash flow scenario planning.

• Our supporters! Your support in 2009 was more meaningful than ever.
Thank you! Also, although some of our corporate friends could not
support us financially in 2009, we received an outpouring of in-kind
support.

• The Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund. MAAF was a knight-in-

shining-armor for many arts organizations by offering Operating
Support grants to successful applicants.

• Community excitement and involvement resulting in partnerships with

organizations including The Society for Photographic Education,
Spelman College Museum of Art, Lumière and The Contemporary.
2009 ACP FACTS
• Over 150 photo related events and exhibitions took place
during ACP’s 2009 Festival.

• Over 400 photographers showed their work.

• 14,000 printed Festival Guides were distributed across

Georgia in record time by volunteers.

• Our website received over 60,000 page views in the

month of October.

• ACP has “evolved into one of Atlanta’s liveliest arts

institutions” - Cathy Fox, 10/07/2009, Atlanta Journal
Constitution
ALSO IN 2009....
ACP completed our 3 year strategic plan, outlining our
goals and organizational initiatives. Our strategic
direction:

“To expand community involvement in our vision and mission.”

This includes supporting photographers, developing

ar ts patrons and reaching out to new and
underserved communities.

ACP implemented a new online Festival Guide

submission tool which makes it easier for artists and
venues to participate in the festival and eases the
Festival Guide workload for ACP staff.
EVEN IN A RECESSION, WE CAN GROW!
ACP welcomed 5 new outstanding Board members;
William Boling, Beth Gibbs, Bertram L. Levy, Murphy Townsend and Tony White.

Also, ACP added 3 new programs at no cost:

Greenhouse – A program designed to foster community within our diverse network of

accomplished professional photographers & artists. ACP Greenhouse is being created as quarterly
initiative to spark a rich, dynamic conversation about photography, from photographers, for
photographers.

ACP Patron Project – The purpose of this project is to inspire a new generation of dedicated
arts patrons in Atlanta. In partnership with The Contemporary and MOCA GA, ACP is in the process
of interviewing a select group of arts patrons.
To evangelize the arts as a vital component of the greater Atlanta community.
Our To build awareness of the myriad of ways in which patrons can easily engage and
desired become dedicated arts supporters.
outcome:
To create a discussion around how becoming an arts patron enhances one’s life, while
simultaneously building (and helping to steer) a thriving community.

ACP Photo Book Fair – As a new component to the My Atlanta Exhibition at Piedmont Park,
ACP hosted a one-day photo book fair to give photographers a platform to promote their self-
published photo books and to give visitors a rare chance to browse and purchase these extremely
limited-edition books.
