Letter:
Greetings,
The area surrounding the property at 532 W Annsbury Street has been
transformed into a thriving hub of businesses, educational institutions, houses of
worship, healthcare providers, and social service agencies.
We do not want to live, work, study, pray, and play next to a junk yard.
We especially do not want the character of our community to be so painfully
impacted by a property with a long history of L & I violations and an
outstanding Philadelphia Real Estate Tax balance of $130,076.32.
We therefore petition the City of Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment to DENY
Permit Application #580863 and Appeal #24548 granting the occupants of 532 W
ANNSBURY ST permission to use that land as a junk or salvage yard.
Denying this application for special exception to the I-2 zoning of 532 W
ANNSBURY ST will greatly enhance our quality of life and allow Hunting Park to
continue its positive neighborhood transformation.
Stand with Hunting Park.
DENY Permit Application #580863 and help us Scrap The Yard.

Please sign this petition! Together we have a voice! Help our community - our
families and our kids - take a stand against an unwanted junkyard business
that has shown little regard for the welfare of its neighbors, being a community
partner, and for paying its taxes. Can you help us envision a better day for our
neighborhood?

The presence and practices of this junk yard have shown a disregard for the
well being of the people in Hunting Park for years. Their removal has been
long overdue. It's time for them to go!

I lived in Hunting Park for two years and saw the impact it had on the
community. Hunting Park will be stronger without it.

would be much better used for other purposes.

the junk yard owner Michael McAnally doesn't own the land on which he
operates the junk yard - it is an extinguished railroad right of way which reverts
to adjoining landowners. He has bullied his way around to use other people's
land. He's making money while ruining the neighborhood. He hides behind his
lawyers and fictitious names and other people. It's time we stood up to him and
revealed the truth about his operation.

The junkyard has not followed rules, storing junk beyond the land that they
own, not cleaning up. The community has developed with many busineases
that serve children and youth very nearby. The health center hosts gym classes
froaboundfcal schools, as well as youth groups and other fitness activities.
There are numerous churches and schools and a bicycle store in the near
neighborhood. Environmental and safety issues abounded due to the proximity
of the junk yard.

This has been a long standing issue in the community. There have been fires
in the yard due to illegal handling of gas. It is a hazard and an eyesore in a
community that is making major strides in providing quality of life for its
residents. Ayuda Community Center, Board President and member of Spirit

The owner, Michael McAnally, actually does not own the land he operates his
junk yard on. He has mistreated the neighboring property owners and
businesses, and the neighborhood of Hunting Park has been trying to right the
many wrongs the junk yard has imposed upon its surroundings for years now.
Please do not let this continue, and remove the junk yard for good.

I do not wish to see a junk yard first of all where people live and where people
attend Seminary and also there is a health care facility in this area as well, and
they are trying to make the area look better which will invite more business.

I have lived in and served in Christian ministry in Hunting Park for 16 years now
- this business represents symbolically and in unpleasant reality the forces
holding back community-driven development in low-income neighborhoods
such as ours. It has had multiple (I once saw a 3"-high paper stack of them at
a Zoning Board hearing) zoning, health, tax and other city regulation violations
over the years and yet has been allowed to continue operating due to City
regulatory ineffectiveness and inconsistency. This is a chance for the City
Zoning Board of Adjustment to join local residents in leading our city in
overcoming this unfortunate tradition and taking a concrete step towards
renewal. For the good of Philadelphia, this application must be denied.

The junk yard is a big eye sore in our community. It is not benefiting the
community at all, instead it just makes our community look worse than it really
is. Years ago there were talk of that space becoming a community playground
for the children then the next time we looked up it had become a junk yard ,
bringing in terrible odor, mice and lingering mosquitos and other insects and
pests. The quicker the junk yard is gone the better our neighborhood would be
on so many levels.

I'm signing because I hate getting stuck in traffic at times when trucks are
blocking the entire street for this place. It's unsightly. I'm sick of seeing the
abandoned cars on the street as well. I believe it contributes to the theft in the
neighborhood. People have climbed over the wall into our parking lot and
broken into our cars.
