A look at the history of atrocities of organized

religion when they gain unlimited power.

Summary: The Talking Snake Theory is a fact-
based historical Creation Science book for
Christian youngsters. Readers journey back 6,000
years ago in time to the actual date when God
created the first two humans from a pile of dirt
and a spare rib. It is a time and place that, despite
the first hand accounts from eyewitnesses in the
Bible, most ignorant secular scholars and scientists
refuse to believe existed. For True Christians®,
Jews, and Muslims, our entire belief systems hinge
on a few words from a talking snake who appeared
around this same time. By using fun characters and
cartoons based on factual accounts from the Holy
Bible book of Genesis (one of the few history
books that all three major religions in the world
agree on), youngsters are taken on an educational
journey they will remember for the rest of their
lives.! Children will learn the truth about how
snakes used to have legs until one of them
opened up his mouth and gave Eve (the first
woman) some bad dieting advice.! After God kicks
Adam and Eve (the first humans) out of his Garden
for listening to a talking snake, readers will follow
the first family as they begin to populate the
Earth.! The author uses an imaginary character
named "Becky," who is Cain's daughter by his
mother, Eve, to explain how it was possible for
Adam and Cain to find another woman to help
them make more babies.! After Becky agrees to
be her dad's wife, they have more children
together so that Adam can make babies with his
grandchildren instead of his daughters, and so on.!
Young readers will want to use a brown pen to
color the face of Ham who appears right near the
end of the book after God turns him into the first
Negro for staring at his dad's (Noah's) hootchie.!!

STATEMENT FOR POPE BENEDICT XVI
ABOUT THE PATTERN OF THE SEXUAL ABUSE CRISIS
!IN THE UNITED STATES
Your Holiness, I, Richard Sipe, approach you reluctantly
to speak about the problem of sexual abuse by priests
and bishops in the United States, but I am encouraged
and prompted by the directive of Vatican II, Lumen
Gentium, Chapter IV, No. 37. “By reason of knowledge,
competence…the laity are empowered—indeed
sometimes obliged—to manifest their opinion on those
things that pertain to the good of the Church.” And
also moved by your heartfelt demonstration of concern
for victims on your recent visit to the United States I
bring to your attention a dimension of the crisis not yet
addressed. It is closer to the systemic center of the
problem and one most difficult for you to address.
As the crisis of sexual abuse of our children and
vulnerable adults by priests and bishops in the United
States is unfolding the dynamics of this dysfunction are
becoming painfully clear.
This sexual aberration is not generated from the
bottom up—that is only from unsuitable candidates—but
from the top down—that is from the sexual behaviors of
superiors, even bishops and cardinals.
The problem facing us in the American church is
systemic. I will present Your Holiness with only a few
examples:
Bishop Thomas Lyons, now deceased, who was an
Auxiliary in the Archdiocese of Washington D.C.
groomed, seduced, and sexually abused a boy from the
time he was seven years old until he was seventeen.
When that boy grew into manhood he in turn abused his
own child and young relatives. When I asked him about
his actions he said to me, “I thought it was natural.
Father (Lyons) told me a priest showed him this when
he was growing up.” A pattern was perpetuated for at
least four generations.
Abbot John Eidenschink of St. John’s Abbey,
Collegeville, Minnesota sexually abused some of his
young monks during confession and spiritual direction.
He admitted this behavior in regard to two of the
monks I interviewed. They described the behavior in
disturbingly graphic detail. Older monks that I
interviewed told me that they knew that John’s Novice
Master was inappropriately affectionate with him during
his two years as a novice. More than a dozen of the
monks of this monastery have been credibly accused of
abuse of minors while Abbot Eidenschink was promoted
to President of his Monastic Congregation, the American
Cassinese.
While I was Adjunct Professor at a Pontifical Seminary,
St. Mary’s Baltimore (1972-1984) a number of
seminarians came to me with concerns about the
behavior of Theodore E. McCarrick then bishop of
Metuchen New Jersey. It has been widely known for
several decades that Bishop/Archbishop now Cardinal
Theodore E. McCarrick took seminarians and young
priests to a shore home in New Jersey, sites in New
York, and other places and slept with some of them. He
established a coterie of young seminarians and priests
that he encouraged to call him “Uncle Ted.” I have his
correspondence where he referred to these men as
being “cousins” with each other.
Catholic journalist Matt C. Abbott already featured the
statements of two priests (2005) and one ex-priest
(2006) about McCarrick. !All three were "in the know"
and aware of the Cardinal McCarrick’s activities in the
same mode as I had heard at the seminary. None of
these reporters, as far as Abbott knew, had sexual
contact with the cardinal in the infamous sleepovers,
but one had first hand reports from a seminarian/priest
who did share a bed and received cards and letters
from McCarrick. The modus operendi is similar to the
documents and letters I have received from a priest
who describes in detail McCarrick’s sexual advances
and personal activity. At least one prominent journalist
at the Boston Globe was aware of McCarrick from his
investigation of another priest, but until now legal
documentation has not been available. And even at this
point the complete story cannot be published because
priest reporters are afraid of reprisals.
I know the names of at least four priests who have had
sexual encounters with Cardinal McCarrick. I have
documents and letters that record the first hand
testimony and eye witness accounts of McCarrick, then
archbishop of Newark, New Jersey actually having sex
with a priest, and at other times subjecting a priest to
unwanted sexual advances.
Your Holiness, you must seek out and listen to the
stories, as I have from many priests about their
seduction by highly placed clerics, and the dire
consequences in their lives that does end in their
victimization alone.
Such behavior fosters confusion and makes celibacy
problematic for seminarians and priests. This abuse
paves the way for them to pass the tradition on—to
have sex with each other and even with minors.
The pattern and practice of priests in positions of
responsibility for the training of men for the
priesthood—rectors, confessors, spiritual directors,
novice masters, and other clergy—who have sexual
relations with seminarians and other priests is rampant
in the Catholic Church in the United States. I have
reviewed hundreds of documents that record just such
behavior and interviewed scores of priests who have
suffered from this activity. Priests, sexually active in
the above manner have frequently been appointed by
the Vatican to be ordained bishops or even created
cardinals.
I approach Your Holiness with due reverence, but with
the same intensity that motivated Peter Damian to lay
out before your predecessor, Pope Leo IX, a
description of the condition of the clergy during his
time. The problems he spoke of are similar and as great
now in the United States as they were then in Rome. If
Your Holiness requests I will submit to you personally
documentation of that about which I have spoken.
Your Holiness, I submit this to you with urgent concern
for our Church, especially for the young and our clergy.

By Nicholas Ngolyo
Nairobi - During the day, he was a man of God,
preaching the good news to his flock. But at night,
he turned into somebody else, engaging in sex
orgies and recording them for commercial
distribution.
This is the picture that police painted of a 50-
year-old American evangelist who was on
Wednesday charged with possessing pornographic
material.
Mr Thomas Kevin Manton of Dominion International,
a church that operates from a Nairobi hotel, was
denied bail and remanded in custody until Friday
for the police to complete their investigations.
The evangelist was arraigned before Kibera senior
resident magistrate Cosmas Maundu and denied
the charge. The prosecutor, Mr Joseph Musyoka,
told the court that on February 25, this year at
Runda Estate in Nairobi, he made or produced an
obscene publication -- a compact disc -- tending to
corrupt morals.
He did this for the purpose of trade or for the
purpose of distribution or public exhibition, the
police alleged. Mr Musyoka told the court that the
evangelist, who came into the country in 2007,
might face more serious charges after completion
of investigations.
Immediately the charges were read to the
accused, his lawyer, Mr Charles Agwara, asked the
court to release him on bail. The lawyer told the
court that they would prove that there was a
scheme to extort money from the accused. But Mr
Musyoka protested against the allegations.
"These are serious allegations. We don't know
whether the allegations are true," the prosecutor
said. He objected to the accused being released
on bail saying the police had not completed
investigations.
"The accused was arrested on June 23, 2009 and
the police have not completed their investigations.
We pray that the accused be remanded in police
custody to enable the investigating officer to
finalise his inquiries," Mr Musyoka said.
The prosecutor added that the defence lawyer
had made serious allegations that certain people
were out to extort money from the preacher, but
the claims had not been proved. Mr Agwara
opposed the application by the prosecution saying
it was not the first time for the evangelist to be
arrested by the police.
Earlier, he said, his client was arrested and held at
Jamhuri police post. "I have been attending Kilimani
Police Station for the last one month. The police
said they were waiting for witnesses to record
statements," Mr Agwara said.
Added the lawyer: "One month is a fair time to
complete investigations. When he was arrested
and locked up at Jamhuri police post, he was
released after paying some money. We had even
complained to the Commissioner of Police about
the case."
He said that the application to have the accused
remanded for three days so that police could
complete their investigations lacked merit. "The
prosecution has not tendered any evidence for the
accused to be remanded for three days," the
defence lawyer told the court.
But Mr Musyoka said that they had several
documents they intended to investigate because
they had pornographic content. He urged the court
to remand the accused saying the police did not
arrest the preacher out of malice. The magistrate
agreed with him and remanded the evangelist.

Child abuse cases allege Jehovah's Witness

cover-up
Napa Valley Register/January 7, 2005
By David Ryan
A bundle of child abuse cases may finally get off
the ground at a key pre-trial hearing in Napa
Superior Court this morning.
As many as 11 lawsuits filed in six counties
contend that Jehovah's Witnesses covered up
acts of child molestation by church officials.
Today's hearing is set to determine how the court
should go forward with handling the cases and
even whether an attorney's potential life-
threatening illness could hold up progress.
Two cases involve three alleged Napa victims who
are suing Napa Jehovah's Witness Congregations
and other Jehovah's Witness groups, claiming high-
ranking elders and church policymakers were
negligent in supervising one church leader and
concealed records for more than 20 years.
Charissa Welch, 35, and two women partially
identified in court papers, Nicole D., 32, and
Tabitha H., 30, claim Edward Bedoya Villegas, who
was an elder in the congregation, forced them to
perform oral sex on him starting more than 20
years ago. Welch and Tabitha H. said Villegas
penetrated them with his fingers, while Tabitha H.
also charges she was raped by Villegas.
Villegas died in prison 10 years ago. In 1994,
Villegas was convicted of molesting several local
children at a Napa Jehovah's Witness congregation
during the 1970s and '80s. During much of that
time Villegas and his wife operated a Jehovah's
Witness day care center.
Jehovah's Witness officials have said the facts will
show that neither the Watchtower Bible and Tract
Society -- the national organization of the
Jehovah's Witness church -- nor local elders are
responsible for Villegas's actions.
Yet whether the cases will move far enough along
for both sides to present their evidence will
largely be decided on whether the two sides can
agree on a schedule of depositions, and even
which cases should be tried first. At a Dec. 9 court
hearing, Napa Superior Court Presiding Judge Scott
Snowden ordered the parties to meet and confer
on several pre-trial issues, including which cases to
stick on a fast-track schedule, how to schedule
testimony with witnesses and when pre-trial
motions might be filed in those cases.
One of the most serious factors that could affect
the speed of the cases is the health of Jehovah's
Witness attorney Robert Schnack, who at the time
of the Dec. 9 hearing was due to have a medical
appointment where he would be told if he had
cancer.
In addition to the chance of being sidelined while
undergoing treatment for a serious illness, Schnack
warned the court that even with a series of
agreed-upon deadlines for taking testimony from
witnesses, the sheer number of depositions could
make the cases drag on.
"If we're going to pick two cases, it's still going to
be 20 to 25 depositions," he said.
Napa courts are known for being able to dispatch
most lawsuits within a year, but it was clear
through discussions among the attorneys that the
complications provided by the 11 lawsuits would
expand the timeline.
"This isn't a garden variety case," Snowden said.
"This is 11 lawsuits in one case and sometimes
more than that."
Rudy Nolen, an attorney for the alleged victims,
told Snowden he was interested in moving the
cases forward as quickly and efficiently as
possible, illustrating what may be underlying some
of the initial conflict in scheduling that the two
sides encountered when they first tried to work
together.
"We don't have the resources of the Jehovah's
Witness church," Nolen said, seeming to accuse
the church of dragging the cases out.

The Mountain Meadows massacre was a mass killing of
the Fancher-Baker wagon train at Mountain Meadows in
Utah Territory on September 11, 1857, by a group of
Mormons and Paiute Indians. The Arkansas emigrants
were traveling to California shortly before Utah War
started. Mormons throughout the Utah Territory had
been mustered to fight the invading United States
Army, which they believed was intended to destroy
them as a people. Initially intending to orchestrate an
Indian massacre, two men with leadership roles in local
military, church and government organizations, Isaac C.
Haight and John D. Lee, conspired for Lee to lead
militiamen disguised as Native Americans along with a
contingent of Paiute tribesmen in an attack.
The emigrants fought back and a siege ensued.
Intending to leave no witnesses of Mormon complicity in
the siege and avoid reprisals complicating the Utah
War, militiamen induced the emigrants to surrender and
give up their weapons. After escorting the emigrants
out of their fortification, the militiamen and their
tribesmen auxiliaries executed approximately 120 men,
women and children.

10 Worst Popes of all time

TAGS: Wicked Popes, Controversial Popes

Pope Stephen VI: had his predecessor exhumed, tried,

de-fingered, and thrown to the river
Stephen VI was Pope from 896 to 897. Fueled by his anger with
Pope Formosus, his predecessor, he exhumed Formosus's
rotting corpse and put "him" on trial, in the so-called "Cadaver
Synod" in January, 897.

With the corpse propped up on a throne, a deacon was

appointed to answer for the deceased pontiff, who was
condemned for performing the functions of a bishop when he
had been deposed and for receiving the pontificate while he
was the bishop of Porto, among other revived charges that had
been leveled against Formosus in the strife during the
pontificate of John VIII.

The corpse was found guilty, stripped of its sacred vestments,

deprived of three fingers of its right hand (the blessing
fingers), clad in the garb of a layman, and quickly buried; it was
then re-exhumed and thrown in the Tiber. All ordinations
performed by Formosus were annulled.
The trial excited a tumult. Though the instigators of the deed
may actually have been Formosus' enemies of the House of
Spoleto (notably Guy IV of Spoleto), who had recovered their
authority in Rome at the beginning of 897 by renouncing their
broader claims in central Italy, the scandal ended in Stephen's
imprisonment and his death by strangling that summer.

Pope Benedict IX: the Pope who sold the papacy

Benedict IX was Pope from 1032 to 1044, again in 1045, and
finally from 1047 to 1048, the only man to have served as Pope
for three discontinuous periods. Benedict gave up his papacy
for the first time in exchange for a large sum of money in 1044.
He returned in 1045 to depose his replacement and reigned for
one month, after which he left again, possibly to marry, and sold
the papacy for a second time, to his Godfather (possibly for
over 650 kg /1450 lb of gold). Two years later, Benedict
retook Rome and reigned for an additional one year, until 1048.
Poppo of Brixen (later to become Pope Damascus II) eventually
forced him out of Rome. Benedict’s place and date of death are
unknown, but some speculate that he made further attempts to
regain the Papal Throne. St. Peter Damian described him as
“feasting on immorality” and “a demon from hell in the disguise
of a priest” in the Liber Gomorrhianus, a treatise on papal
corruption and sex that accused Benedict IX of routine
homosexuality and bestiality.

Pope Sergius III: ordered the murder of another pope and

started the "pornocracy"
Sergius III was Pope from 897 to 911, and has been the
only pope known to have ordered the murder of another
pope and the only known to have fathered an illegitimate
son who later became pope; his pontificate has been
described as "dismal and disgraceful." The pontificate of
Sergius III was remarkable for the rise of what papal
historians call a "pornocracy," or rule of the harlots, a
reversal of the natural order as they saw it, according to
Liber pontificalis and a later chronicler who was also
biased against Sergius III. This "pornocracy" was an age
with women in power: Theodora, whom Liutprand
characterized as a "shameless whore... [who] exercised
power on the Roman citizenry like a man" and her
daughter Marozia, the mother of Pope John XI (931–935)
and reputed to be the mistress of Sergius III.

Pope John XII: raped female pilgrims and invoked pagan

gods
John XII was Pope from 955 to 964. On 963, Holy Roman
Emperor Otto I summoned a council, levelling charges that
John had ordained a deacon in a stable, consecrated a
10-year-old boy as bishop of Todi, converted the Lateran
Palace into a brothel, raped female pilgrims in St. Peter's,
stolen church offerings, drank toasts to the devil, and
invoked the aid of Jove, Venus, and other pagan gods
when playing dice. He was deposed, but returned as
pope when Otto left Rome, maiming and mutilating all who
had opposed him. On 964, he was apparently beaten by
the husband of a woman with which he was having an
affair, dying three days later without receiving confession
or the sacraments.

Pope Leo X: sold indulgences, killed cardinals

Leo X was Pope from 1513 to his death in 1521. He is known
primarily for the sale of indulgences to reconstruct St. Peter's
Basilica and his challenging of Martin Luther's 95 theses.

According to Alexandre Dumas, "under his pontificate,

Christianity assumed a pagan character, which, passing from art
into manners, gives to this epoch a strange complexion. Crimes
for the moment disappeared, to give place to vices; but to
charming vices, vices in good taste, such as those indulged in
by Alcibiades and sung by Catullus." When he became Pope, Leo
X is reported to have said to his brother Giuliano: “Since God
has given us the papacy, let us enjoy it.”

His extravagance offended not only people like Martin Luther,

but also some cardinals, who, led by Alfonso Petrucci of Siena,
plotted an assassination attempt. Eventually, Pope Leo found
out who these people were, and had them followed. The
conspirators died of “food poisoning.” Some people argue that
Leo X and his followers simply concocted the assassination
charges in a moneymaking scheme to collect fines from the
various wealthy cardinals Leo X detested.
==================================
=
Pope Alexander VI: nepotism, orgies and the rise of the Borgia
family
Alexander VI was Pope from 1492 to 1503. He is the most
controversial of the secular popes of the Renaissance, and his
surname (Italianized as Borgia) became a byword for the
debased standards of the papacy of that era. Originally Cardinal
Borgia from Spain, Pope Alexander's claims to fame were taking
over much of Italy by force with the help of his son Cesare
(yes, his son), a racy relationship with his daughter Lucrezia
(some say her son was his), and his affinity for throwing large
parties, bordering on orgies, that usually culminated with little
naked boys jumping out of large cakes.
==================================
=
Pope Innocent IV: introduced torture on the Inquisition

Innocent IV was Pope from 1243 to 1254. Certainly the

Inquisition represents the darkest of Roman Church history, and
it was Innocent IV who approved the use of torture to extract
confessions of heresy. He aggressively applied the principle
that “the end justifies the means.” It is shocking to learn about
the deranged instruments of torture that were used on so
many innocent people. One of the most famous people to suffer
at the hands of Roman inquisitors was Galileo. The church
condemned Galileo for claiming that the earth revolved around
the sun.
==================================
===
Pope Urban VI: complained he did not hear enough screaming
when his Cardinals were tortured
Urban VI was Pope from 1378 to 1389. He was the first Pope of
the Western Schism (which ultimately lead to three people
claiming the Papal throne at the same time). Once elected, he
was prone to outbursts of rage. The cardinals who elected him
decided that they had made the wrong decision and they
elected a new Pope in his place, so he took the name of
Clement VII and started a second Papal court in Avignon,
France. Later he would launch a program of violence against
those he thought to have been conspiring against him,
imprisoning people at will and mistreating them brutally. Later
historians have considered seriously that he might have been
insane.

The second election threw the Church into turmoil. There had
been antipopes, rival claimants to the papacy, before, but most
of them had been appointed by various rival factions; in this
case, the legitimate leaders of the Church themselves had
created both popes. The conflict quickly escalated from a
church problem to a diplomatic crisis that divided Europe.
Secular leaders had to choose which pope they would
recognize. The schism was repaired forty years later when all
three of the (then) reigning Popes abdicated together and a
successor elected in the person of Pope Martin V.
==================================
==
Pope John XV: split the church's finances among his relatives
John XV was Pope from 985 to 996. The Pope's venality and
nepotism had made him very unpopular with the citizens, as he
split the church's finances among his relatives and was
described as "covetous of filthy lucre and corrupt in all his
acts."

==================================
=
Pope Clement VII: his power-politicking with France, Spain, and
Germany got Rome sacked.
Clement VII was Pope from 1523 to 1534. A member of the
powerful Medici family, Clement VII possessed great political and
diplomatic skills - but he lacked the understanding of the age
necessary to cope with the political and religious changes he
faced. His relationship with Emperor Charles V was so bad that,
in May 1527, Charles invaded Italy and sacked Rome.

Imprisoned, Clement was forced into a humiliating compromise

which forced him to give up a great deal of secular and
religious power. Eventually, Clement became ill and never
recovered. He died on September 25, 1534, hated by the
people of Rome, who never forgave him for the destruction of
1527.

Absolutist Papal Maxims of the Jesuits

1. There is but one Supreme Authority in the

World, and that is the Pope.
2. God hath delivered over unto the Pope the
Power and Rule of Heaven and Earth,
therefore we must be obedient unto him upon
pain of damnation.
3. All Right and Power are lodged in his
Breast.
4. No Law can be made to bind Christians, but
by the Pope’s Authority, as of old the
Israelites received none but by Moses.
5. The Gospel would not be the Gospel, if the
Pope had not approved of it.
6. The Pope can take away any man’s Right,
and give it to another.
7. The Pope can do any thing, above all Right,
against all Right and without all Right.
8. If Christ commands one thing, and the Pope
another thing, the Pope is rather to be
obeyed than Jesus Christ.
9. The Pope’s Decretory Letters are to be
received and esteemed as Authentic as the
Word of God or the Holy Scriptures.
10. It is Sacrilege to question the Pope’s
Actions, and he is cursed of God who violates
the Pope’s censures.
11. If the Pope affirm that to be black, which
our Eyes judge to be white, we ought also
then to declare, that it’s black, upon pain of
our souls.
12. The Pope hath the sole Rule and Power of
the whole World in Temporals as well as in
Spirituals, and therefore can depose Emperors
and Kings, and may dispose of their
Dominions as he shall think convenient.
13. If the Pope shall depose a King and give
his Kingdom to another, and the people will
not receive him, the Pope may bring him in by
force of Arms, because he is Judge of all and
instead of God on Earth.
14. Not to believe that the Pope can depose
Kings is [to be], and that deservedly, damned
for Heresy.
15. Christ had not done wisely if he had not
left the Pope power to depose Kings.
16. If a King be a Heretic or favorer of Heresy
he may be deposed.
17. If the Pope shall declare a King to be a
Heretic, he hath no right to his Kingdom, and
the Pope may depose him.
18. The Pope can give the people liberty
either to choose or take new Masters; by this
means they keep all Kings and Princes in their
Obedience and Submission to the Pope.
19. All Protestants are Heretics, and
therefore they ought to be killed.
20. It is better and safer to make alliance and
amity with Turks, Infidels, or Jews, than with
Heretic Protestants, because they may draw
us into the errors of their novelties.

What You Didn't Know

About The Popes Of Rome
By Mark Owen
4-6-5
!

On the evening of Saturday April 2, 2005,

after receiving the Rite of Extreme Unction,
Pope John Paul II passed away. At this time
his chamberlain would have gone to the papal
hospital bed and asked the Bishop of Rome a
question, "Are you dead?" There would be no
reply from the Pope. The chamberlain would
then pick up a silver hammer and strike the
Pope on the head and repeat his question,
"Are you dead?" Again there would be no
reply. The chamberlain would then thrice call
out the Pope's baptismal name. He would then
declare the Pope to be dead.
!
This is the way the Church has determined
papal deaths for centuries. This is the way of
the world's oldest monarchy.
!
Since 1763 the august Almanach de Gotha
has been the ultimate authority on the royal
houses of Europe. Listed under 'Reigning
Sovereign Houses' is the Holy See. Therein is
stated, "the incumbent of the Holy See is
considered by Christian sovereign families as
the 'Father of the Family of Kings,' [and] his
Holiness represents the OLDEST MONARCHY
on earth"
!
The triple sovereignty of the Pope-Person,
Holy See & Vatican City--is distinct in fact
and in law. Internationally, he is not subject to
any authority on earth. His Cardinals are
considered to be Princes of the Church and
peers of the sons of reigning monarchs. Each
diocese is considered to be a royal fiefdom.
The word 'diocese' originally signified an
administrative unit devised by the Emperor
Diocletian, a tyrant noted for his persecution
of Christians.
!
Following are brief sketches of some of the
more interesting holders of the title 'Vicar of
Christ' (it should be noted that the Latin
equivalent of the Greek 'anti' is 'vicarius,' from
whence is derived the word 'vicar').
!
Without a doubt, there was one Pope who
was completely mad. In 896 Stephen VII set
in motion the trial of his rival, the late Pope
Formosus who had been dead for 9 months at
the time. Formosus' corpse was dragged
from its tomb and arrayed on a throne in the
council chamber. The corpse, wrapped in a
hair shirt, was provided with council, who
wisely remained silent while Pope Stephen
raved and screamed at it. The crime of
Formosus was that he had crowned emperor
one of the numerous illegitimate heirs of
Charlemagne after first having performed the
same office for a candidate favored by
Stephen. After Stephen's rant, the corpse
was stripped of its clothes and its fingers
were chopped off. It was then dragged
through the palace and hurled from a balcony
to a howling mob below who threw it into the
Tiber. The body was later rescued by people
sympathetic to Formosus and given a quiet
burial. Stephen was strangled to death a few
years later.
!
In 964 Pope Benedict V raped a young girl
and absconded to Constantinople with the
papal treasury only to reappear when the
money ran out. Church historian Gerbert called
Benedict 'the most iniquitous of all the
monsters of ungodliness.' The pontiff was
eventually slain by a jealous husband. His
corpse, bearing a hundred dagger wounds,
was dragged through the streets before
being tossed into a cesspit.
!
In October 1032 the papal miter was
purchased for the 11-year old Benedict IX.
Upon reaching his 14th year, a chronicler
wrote that Benedict had already surpassed in
wantonness and profligacy all who had
preceded him. He often had to leave Rome in
a hurry.
!
Gregory VII was a master forger, surpassing
even the great fraud known as the 'Donation
of Constantine,' the document that created
the Papal States. Gregory had an entire
school of forgers turning out document after
document bearing the papal seal of approval.
These documents were later systematized in
the mid-1100s in Bologna by Gratian, a
Benedictine monk. He called his work the
Decretum, or Code of Canon Law. It was
peppered throughout with several centuries
of forgeries along with Gratian's own fictional
additions. Gregory also formalized the
celibacy doctrine in order to curtail the many
gifts of church lands being given away to all
of the illegitimate children of priests and
bishops. According to Catholic historian Peter
de Rosa in his book Vicars of Christ:
!
"Popes had mistresses as young as fifteen
years of age, were guilty of incest and sexual
perversions of every sort, had innumerable
children, were murdered in the very act of
adultery In the old Catholic phrase, why be
holier than the Pope?"
!
Another interesting figure was Alexander VI
(formerly Rodrigo Borgia). He reigned from
1492-1503. Alexander committed his first
murder at the age of 12. Upon assuming the
Papal miter he cried, "I am Pope, Vicar of
Christ!" In his Decline and Fall Gibbon referred
to Alexander as the Tiberius of Rome. Like his
predecessor Innocent VIII, Alexander sired
many children, baptized them personally and
officiated at their weddings in the Vatican. He
had ten known illegitimate children (including
the notorious Cesare and Lucrezia), by his
favorite mistress Vannoza Catanei. When she
faded, Borgia took the 15-year old Giulia
Farnese. Farnese obtained a Cardinal's red
hat for her brother who later became Paul III.
!
Alexander was followed by Julius II who
purchased the papacy with his own private
fortune. He didn't even pretend to be a
Christian. A notorious womanizer who sired
any number of bastards, Julius was so eaten
away with syphilis that he couldn't even
expose his foot to be kissed.
!
Under Leo X (1513-21)--who cursed and
excommunicated Martin Luther-specific
prices were enumerated by the Roman
Chancery for every imaginable crime. For
instance, a deacon accused of murder could
be absolved for 20 crowns. Once pardoned,
he could not be prosecuted by civil
authorities. Two hundred years earlier, John
XXII had done much the same thing, setting
prices for crimes ranging from incest to
sodomy.
!
During his pontificate Innocent VIII (1484-92)
granted a 20-year Butterbriefe indulgence to
persons who met his price. For a sum, one
could purchase the privilege of eating favorite
dishes during Lent.
!
Leo X (Giovanni de Medici) commissioned the
Dominican friar Tetzel to sell indulgences
which released one from purgatory. Tetzel's
famous refrain went, "As soon as the coin in
the coffer rings, a soul from purgatory
springs!"
!
Pope Sixtus IV charged Roman brothels a
Church tax. According to historian Will Durant,
in 1490 there were 6800 registered
prostitutes in Rome. Pius II declared that
Rome was the only city run by bastards (the
sons of Popes and Cardinals).
!
The iniquity of the various Popes has filled
many books, and one has to wonder if the
Church has been cursed from the very
beginning. After all, Constantine leveled the
Stadium of Caligula and the Temple of Apollo
and used the stones and marble from them to
erect the original basilica of Peter. Could he
have been engaging in an act of sympathetic
magic, as some have alleged? Constantine's
choice of building materials might account for
the observation made in Rome by Martin
Luther centuries later who declared, "If there
is a Hell, Rome is built over it. It is an abyss
from whence issues every kind of sin."
!
Very brief mention should be made of the
staggering scale of the Inquisition. In his
History of the Inquisition, Canon Llorente,
who was Secretary of the Inquistion in Madrid
from 1790-92 estimated the number of
condemned in Spain alone to have exceeded
3 million, with 300,000 burned at the stake. A
Catholic historian comments on the events
leading up to the suppression of the Spanish
Inquisition:
!
"When Napoleon conquered Spain in 1808, a
Polish officer in his army, Col. Lemanouski,
reported that the Dominicans (in charge of
the Inquisition) blockaded themselves in their
monastery in Madrid. When Lemanouski's
troops forced an entry, the inquisitors denied
the existence of any torture chambers. The
soldiers searched the monastery and
discovered them under the floors. The
chambers were full of prisoners, all naked,
many insane. The French troops, used to
cruelty and blood, could not stomach the
sight. They emptied the torture chambers,
laid gunpowder to the monastery and blew
the place up"
!
Rome was truly drunk with the Martyr's
blood.
!
And the Papacy isn't fairing much better in
our modern age, and would appear to be in
serious decline, if not in outright defeat.
!
In November 2000 Italian headlines
screamed, "Devil Defeats Pope!" Il
Messaggero reported that the Pope had been
confronted by a teenage girl in the Vatican
who screamed insults in a cavernous voice
during an audience. John Paul attempted an
exorcism but his ministrations had no effect
on the girl.
!
Devils in the Vatican would come as no
surprise to Msgr. Luigi Marinelli. His book
Gone With the Wind at the Vatican fairly flew
off the shelves in Italy, revealing as it did
stories of money-laundering prelates, sex
abuse and Satanic rituals performed within the
walls of the Holy See.
!
Marinelli's comments echo those of the late
Fr. Malachi Martin, a former Jesuit and
exorcist, whose 1990 book The Keys of this
Blood contains the following disturbing
information:
!
"Most frighteningly for John Paul, he had
come up against the irremovable presence of
a malign strength in his own Vatican and in
certain bishop's chanceries. It was what
knowledgeable Churchmen called the
'superforce.' Rumors, difficult to verify, tied
its installation to the beginning of Paul VIs
reign in 1963. Indeed, Paul had alluded
somberly to "the smoke of Satan which has
entered the Sanctuary"-an oblique reference
to an enthronement ceremony performed by
Satanists in the Vatican. Besides, the
incidence of Satanic pedophilia-rites and
practices-was already documented among
certain bishops and priests as widely
dispersed as Turin in Italy and South Carolina
in the United States. The cultic acts of
Satanic pedophilia are considered by
professionals to be the culmination of the
Fallen Archangel's rites."
!
Adding fuel to the fire is ex-Jesuit Robert
Kaiser with his recent book Clerical Error.
Kaiser states that Malachi Martin was
something of a confabulist who lived for 30
years as a kept man under the roof of
Manhattan socialite Kakia Livanos, the ex-wife
of Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos.
Kaiser goes on to say that Martin also stole
his wife Mary from him at one point in the 60s
when all three were quartered in Rome. Kaiser
also surmises that Martin may have been a
paid lobbyist for the American Jewish
Committee.
!
In his new book Glimpses of the Devil,
psychiatrist M. Scott Peck weighs in with
many interesting comments on possession
and exorcism. He also declares Martin to
have been most scrupulous in his histories of
the exorcisms recounted in Hostage to the
Devil. However, according to Peck, although a
formidable scholar and gifted polyglot (17
languages), Martin could by turns be a
'pathological liar' and a 'leprechaun.' Needless
to say, the jury is still out on the legacy of
Malachi Martin.
!
On the other hand, the verdict on the
pederasty that is endemic to the Roman
priesthood, is in. The Church paid out more
than $1 billion in claims to victims of sex
abuse by clergy in the 1990s alone. And the
American branch offers a very disturbing
treatment method to offenders. One startling
example should suffice:
!
Fr. Jay Mullin was accused of molesting a boy
more than 20 years ago in Boston. Then
Cardinal Bernard Law commanded Mullin to be
evaluated at St. Luke's Institute. The Institute
is a Washington clinic that was profiled in a
Boston Globe article of February 24, 2002:
!
"Mullin was flown south in 1992 to a clinic
outside Washington, D.C. The church-run clinic
had a huge collection of child pornography of
varying degrees, which ranged from soft porn
to hardcore S&M images, all featuring pre-
teen boys and girls"
!
This would have to rate as the most devilish
form of aversion therapy ever known. It
would be akin to treating alcoholics with
copious quantities of vintage wine or
bombarding junkies with free packets of
China White heroin. Truly degenerate and
depraved lunatics were running the asylum
known as St. Lukes.
!
Notwithstanding the scandal and shock of the
aforementioned, Rome carries on quietly with
her program of world dominion. They lead the
competition to establish the first one-world
system that has ever existed. Their ultimate
goal is global religious syncretism, and to
eventually wield control and authority over
every individual on earth. The human solidarity
goals of the Roman Church are identical to the
goals and objectives of the United Nations.
This is why they are such an perfect fit. Rome
only gives the appearance of objecting to
the UN agenda. At the 1996 World Food
Summit in Rome Cardinal Angelo Sodana
pledged the Holy See's support for the UNs
humanistic 'Programs of Action.'
!
Rome also has designs on Jerusalem.
!
For 46 years after Israel's rebirth the Vatican
refused to acknowledge Israel's right to
exist. But Rome wants to exert premier
influence over Jerusalem, which will one day
function as the capital of her World Church.
!
In a 1993 letter to the Pope, Shimon Peres
promised to internationalize Jerusalem,
granting the UN political control of the Old
City and the Vatican hegemony over the holy
sites within. This was confirmed by the Italian
newspaper La Stampa. In March 1995 the
Israeli radio station Arutz Sheva was leaked a
cable from the Israeli Embassy in Rome,
confirming the hand over of Jerusalem to the
Vatican.
!
The future Pope will establish his throne one
day within the walls of the rebuilt Temple in
Jerusalem. It is from here that he will rule his
World Church.
!
And this day may not be as far off as many
believe. The cornerstones for the Third
Temple have already been quarried by the
Jewish group known as the Temple Mount
Faithful. They are extremely well financed
and organized. They have also produced
priestly vestments in accordance with
scriptural outlines and are presently
attempting to breed a perfect red heifer in
anticipation of the coming dedication
ceremonies. Obviously, Rome and the Temple
Mount Faithful are headed for a showdown.
!
In a letter sent to the Vatican in January
2004, the TMF demanded that Pope John
Paul return the Temple Menorah and other
vessels and treasures removed in 70AD by
Titus and taken to Rome, where they are
presently held within the Secret Vatican
Archives.

The Mountain Meadows massacre was a mass
killing of the Fancher-Baker wagon train at
Mountain Meadows in Utah Territory on
September 11, 1857, by a group of Mormons
and Paiute Indians. The Arkansas emigrants
were traveling to California shortly before
Utah War started. Mormons throughout the
Utah Territory had been mustered to fight the
invading United States Army, which they
believed was intended to destroy them as a
people. Initially intending to orchestrate an
Indian massacre, two men with leadership
roles in local military, church and government
organizations, Isaac C. Haight and John D. Lee,
conspired for Lee to lead militiamen disguised
as Native Americans along with a contingent
of Paiute tribesmen in an attack.
The emigrants fought back and a siege
ensued. Intending to leave no witnesses of
Mormon complicity in the siege and avoid
reprisals complicating the Utah War,
militiamen induced the emigrants to surrender
and give up their weapons. After escorting
the emigrants out of their fortification, the
militiamen and their tribesmen auxiliaries
executed approximately 120 men, women and
children.

Christ And Christianity In The Year 2000
The Jesus Myth
Pope Leo X, who reigned 1513-21, once said: "It
has served us well, this myth of Christ." By this he
meant that over the centuries, the Vatican had
managed to acquire enormous wealth and power
in the name of a figure called Jesus Christ. In this
century, the man most responsible for making
Vatican the financial powerhouse it is today was
its investment manager, a financial genius by
name Bernardino Nogara. Speaking of him, Cardinal
Spellman of New York once said: "Next to Jesus
Christ, the best thing that ever happened to the
Catholic Church is Bernardino Nogara." Anticipating
that Europe was heading for war, Nogara invested
heavily in armaments factories, buying several of
them outright. This allowed the Vatican to reap
huge profits when Mussolini invaded Abyssinia in
1935 and in World War II later.

To go with this, the Vatican's Secretary of State

Eugenio Pacelli, later to gain fame - or notoriety -
as Pope Pius XII negotiated highly profitable
treaties with Mussolini's Italy and Nazi Germany.
This did not come free. In the bargain, the Vatican
became a virtual dependency of Germany and
Italy. The British Cardinal Hemsley once said: "If
Fascism goes under, then the God's cause goes
under with it."

But there is more to the 'myth of Christ' - as Pope

Leo called it - than mere profits. Recent
archaeological discoveries in the Qumran region of
Palestine, especially the Dead Sea Scrolls, show
that the whole of Christianity, including Jesus of
the Gospels, is a later fabrication. Following the
discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947, the
Vatican managed to gain control of them and tried
to suppress the whole thing for over forty years.
Its monopoly was broken only in 1991, thanks to
the untiring efforts of the California Biblical
historian Robert Eisenman.

What the Biblical scholars who have studied the

Dead Sea Scrolls tell us is that everything in
Christianity, including the life of Jesus Christ found
in the Gospels is a later fabrication based on
texts that existed at least a century before the
supposed birth of Jesus! Almost everything
connected with Jesus Christ and his teachings can
be traced to earlier sources like the Dead Sea
Scrolls. John Allegro, a pioneer in the study of the
Scrolls in the original, had this to say:
"The origins of some Christian rituals and doctrines
can be seen in the documents of an extremist
Jewish sect that existed for more than a hundred
years before the birth of Christ.

"My own opinion is that the scrolls [of the Dead

Sea] prompt us increasingly to seek an
eschatological meaning for most of Jesus'
reported sayings: more and more become
intelligible when viewed in the light of the
imminent cataclysms of Qumran [in Palestine]
expectations, and the inner conflicts in men's
hearts as the time grew near.

"As far as details in the New Testament record of

Jesus' life is concerned, I would suggest that the
scrolls give added ground for believing that many
incidents are merely projections into Jesus' own
history of what was expected of the Messiah."

In other words, Jesus of Christianity never

existed! The story of Jesus is a later fabrication
based on what people wanted their Messiah to be.
It should also be noted that many important
events of Christianity including the Last Supper
and even the Crucifixion have no historical basis.
Catholics observe a ceremony called the Lord's
Supper as a commemoration of the Last Supper.
The Dead Sea Scrolls tell us that the Jews of
Qumran used to observe the Lord's Supper a
hundred years before the birth of Christianity.
This means that the story of the Last Supper is a
dramatization of this ancient Jewish practice.

Recent documents released by Eisenman show the

same to be true of Crucifixion. The seed of the
story can be found in a fragmentary scroll known
as the 'Pierced Messiah'. The distinguished scholar
of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Neil Asher Silberman had
this to say regarding this very important Scroll
fragment - known as the 'Pierced Messiah' -
discovered by Robert Eisenman.

"Here, as Eisenman believed, was additional proof

(as if any was needed) ... on explosive material
for decades, material that would show that the
passion of the messiah [by crucifixion] was a
common expectation and not a historical event."

This is a bombshell! The story does not end here,

for even the idea of the Davidic Messiah as the
Son of God who will perform miracles like healing
the sick and raising the dead is found in the
Scrolls. Here are two important passages from
the Dead Sea Scrolls to that describe this, long
before the birth of Christianity:

"I shall be the father and he shall be my son. He is

the branch of David who shall arise with the
Interpreter of the Law to rule in Zion at the end of
time.

"The Heavens and Earth will obey His Messiah, ...

and all that is in them... "And for wonders that are
not the works of the Lord ... then He will heal the
sick, resurrect the dead, to the meek announce
glad tidings. ... He will lead the Holy Ones; He will
shepherd them."

The Gospels of course attribute all these to Jesus

the Messiah (Christ). In summary, the whole of
Christianity, including the story of the crucifixion
of Jesus is a later fabrication, created to gain
support of the Roman Empire. This reached its
culmination when Constantine gave recognition to
Christianity as an official religion in 325 AD, and
Theodosius, later, banned all forms of public
worship other than the Christian. With this, the
pluralistic Roman Empire became a narrow
theocracy that soon plunged Europe into a 1000-
year Dark Age, like what Muslims did to India.
So it was not the Roman Empire that became
Christian, but Christianity that became the Roman
Empire by turning against the Jews who founded
it. St. Paul, the real founder of Christianity was a
Hellenized Jew, a rich and privileged Roman citizen
who hated fellow Jews. He was like the Indian
Secularists today who hate Hindus and Hinduism.
He and his successors fabricated large parts of
the New Testament to destroy the Jews of
Palestine who were in a constant state of
rebellion against the Romans. The mythical Jesus
was created to facilitate this process. Paul was a
Roman agent.

The Gospels
The fact that the Gospels are a later fabrication
by authors who were agents of the Roman Empire
becomes clear upon examining their language and
content. (This is why they praise the bloodthirsty
Roman tyrant Pilate as a compassionate man and
blame the innocent Jews for killing Jesus.) The
language of the Jews of Palestine two thousand
years ago was Aramaic; their sacred language was
Hebrew. But the New Testament including the
Gospels is in Greek - the official language of the
eastern part of the Roman Empire of which
Palestine was a colony. (Greek was like English in
India under British rule.) The teachings of Jesus
should have been in Aramaic. But strangely, there
is no version of the New Testament in Hebrew or
Aramaic. This is like having the Bhagavadgita or
the Upanishads in English with no Sanskrit originals.
How authentic can such a text be? It is clear from
this that the Gospels are a later creation and not
a contemporary account. This is only the
beginning, for the whole of Christian doctrine and
practices rest on a foundation of forgery,
falsehood and fabrication carried out on an
unprecedented scale. This is true of the most
important document of Christianity (after the
Bible) - the Decretals compiled by Gratian of
Bologna. Former Catholic priest Peter de Rosa has
this to say:

"... the documents forged in Rome at this time

[before c. 1100 AD] were systematized in the
mid-1100s at Bologna by Gratian, a Benedictine
monk. [This is known as the Decretum or the
Code of Canon Law.]... It was peppered with three
centuries of forgeries and conclusions drawn from
them, with his own fictional additions. Of the 324
passages he quotes from the Popes of the first
four centuries, only eleven are genuine."
Only eleven out of three hundred and twenty-four!
It was only in the eighteenth century that the
Vatican even acknowledged that the Decretals
were riddled with forgeries. But Thomas Aquinas,
who knew little or no Greek, used it as the basis
for his monumental work Summa Theologia. This is
still the basis for much of Christian teachings,
especially in the Catholic Church. This is what the
Pope and the Vatican want to bring to India as the
'only truth' without which salvation is impossible!

The message of Christianity

One can always say that it doesn't really matter if
Jesus was not historical, but it is the message of
Christianity that really counts. This is not valid, for
without Christ there is no Christianity just there
can be no Islam without Prophet Muhammad. After
all, it is Christianity's claim that there can be no
salvation without Jesus, who we know never
existed! But let us take a look at what Christianity
has to say. Here are a few examples:

"He that is not with me is against me." (Jesus

Christ)

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I

come not to send peace, but a sword.

"For I am come to set a man at variance against

his father, and the daughter against her mother,
and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

"And a man's foes shall be they of his own

household." (Jesus Christ)

"Ye shall utterly destroy all the places wherein the

nations which ye possess served their gods, upon
the high mountains, upon the hills, and every
green tree." (Moses)

"They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured

with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I
will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with
the poison of serpents of the dust. The sword
without, and terror within, shall destroy both the
young man and the virgin, the suckling also with
the man of gray hairs." (Moses)

Those who say that the Bible teaches compassion

either have never read it or are deliberate frauds
(like the missionaries), who want to prey on the
gullible. It is a manual for creating discord and
hatred. Most Christians know nothing about the
Bible.

Conclusion
As a pluralist, I acknowledge the right of everyone
to believe and practice whatever and however
one wishes. But this does not give anyone the
right to abuse and attack other people's beliefs
and places of worship in the name of the 'true
faith'. This is exactly what Christianity has been
doing for two thousand years, destroying
civilizations in Greece, Europe and the Americas in
the name of God and Christ. It has now turned its
covetous eyes on India to save itself from
collapse. In the words of Father Monchanin, a
Christian missionary in India:

"India has received from the Almighty an

uncommon gift, an unquenchable thirst for
whatever spiritual. From the Vedic and
Upanishadic times, a countless host of her sons
[sic; and her daughters] have been great seekers
of God. ...Communion with Him and liberation from
whatever hinders that realization, was for them
the unique goal.... Unfortunately, Indian wisdom is
tainted with erroneous tendencies and looks as if
it has not yet found its own equilibrium. So was
Greek wisdom before Greece humbly received its
Paschal message of the Risen Christ. ... But once
Christianized, Greece rejected her ancestral errors;
... [Greek Civilization was destroyed.] Is not the
message she [India] has to deliver to the world
similar to the message of ancient Greece?
Therefore the Christianization of Indian civilization
is to all intents and purposes an historical
undertaking comparable to the Christianization of
Greece."

This is the Christian agenda, emphasized by Pope

John Paul II at the Asian Bishop's Conference in
Manila, repeated at Delhi during the Pope's recent
visit: "A great new harvest of faith will be reaped
on this vast and vital continent." There is also a
more serious issue at stake. Christianity is a
racist religion, dominated by Europeans. From the
time of Columbus, it has been a tool of European
exploitation of others in the name of the 'White
Man's Burden'. The attitude of subservience to
the West and to white people still pervades the
education provided at Christian schools and
colleges in India and other developing countries,
placing their minds in a state of permanent
inferiority. (A white missionary like Graham Staines
always commands more respect than a native
priest.)
But now, the West has rejected Christianity along
with its superstitions and anti-humanism. This has
forced Christian organizations and its missionaries
to seek their fortunes in India. Indian Christians
have become pawns in this game of survival for
Christian institutions in the West. Their goal is to
use Indian Christians as a fifth column in their
agenda of subversion and expansion in India. It is
up to the Christians of India to decide if they want
to live at peace with their Hindu brothers and
sisters, or serve as cannon fodder in a religious
war being instigated by foreign Christian
organizations in their struggle for survival. They
should look at Kosovo and Indonesia.

As for as Christianity is concerned, here is what

Nostradamus wrote more than 400 years ago,
predicting return to Paganism, leaving the Church
with its 'shattered foundation'.

For temples sacred in the pristine Roman fashion,

They'll reject the one with the shattered
foundation;
Taking to their laws ancient and human,
Will chase out their cults and saintly pretension.
This may or may not come about, but the
revelations of the Dead Sea Scrolls have certainly
left Christianity with a 'shattered foundation'.
Less than 3 percent in Rome today go to Church.

====================================
Millions of innocent men, women and children, since
the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt,
tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not
advanced one inch towards uniformity.
-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782

But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say

there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks
my pocket nor breaks my leg.
-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782
What is it men cannot be made to believe!
-Thomas Jefferson to Richard Henry Lee, April 22,
1786. (on the British regarding America, but
quoted here for its universal appeal.)

Question with boldness even the existence of a

god; because if there be one he must approve of
the homage of reason more than that of
blindfolded fear.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August
10, 1787

Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a

departure from the plan of the holy author of our
religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting
"Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure
from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of
our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the
great majority, in proof that they meant to
comprehend, within the mantle of its protection,
the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and
Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every
denomination.
-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to
the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom

I concur with you strictly in your opinion of the

comparative merits of atheism and demonism, and
really see nothing but the latter in the being
worshipped by many who think themselves
Christians.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Richard Price, Jan. 8,
1789 (Richard Price had written to TJ on Oct. 26.
about the harm done by religion and wrote "Would
not Society be better without Such religions? Is
Atheism less pernicious than Demonism?")

I never submitted the whole system of my

opinions to the creed of any party of men
whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in
anything else where I was capable of thinking for
myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation
of a free and moral agent.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Francis Hopkinson,
March 13, 1789

They [the clergy] believe that any portion of

power confided to me, will be exerted in
opposition to their schemes. And they believe
rightly; for I have sworn upon the altar of god,
eternal hostility against every form of tyranny
over the mind of man. But this is all they have to
fear from me: and enough, too, in their opinion.
-Thomas Jefferson to Dr. Benjamin Rush, Sept. 23,
1800

Believing with you that religion is a matter which

lies solely between man and his God, that he owes
account to none other for his faith or his worship,
that the legislative powers of government reach
actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with
sovereign reverence that act of the whole
American people which declared that their
legislature should 'make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation
between church and State.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Danbury Baptist
Association, CT., Jan. 1, 1802

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-

ridden people maintaining a free civil government.
This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which
their civil as well as religious leaders will always
avail themselves for their own purposes.
-Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt,
Dec. 6, 1813.

The whole history of these books [the Gospels] is

so defective and doubtful that it seems vain to
attempt minute enquiry into it: and such tricks
have been played with their text, and with the
texts of other books relating to them, that we
have a right, from that cause, to entertain much
doubt what parts of them are genuine. In the New
Testament there is internal evidence that parts of
it have proceeded from an extraordinary man; and
that other parts are of the fabric of very inferior
minds. It is as easy to separate those parts, as to
pick out diamonds from dunghills.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, January
24, 1814

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the

common law.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper,
February 10, 1814

In every country and in every age, the priest has

been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with
the despot, abetting his abuses in return for
protection to his own.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G. Spafford,
March 17, 1814

If we did a good act merely from love of God and a

belief that it is pleasing to Him, whence arises the
morality of the Atheist? ...Their virtue, then, must
have had some other foundation than the love of
God.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Thomas Law, June
13, 1814

Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used

against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be
distinct before reason can act upon them; and no
man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the
mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling
themselves the priests of Jesus."

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Francis Adrian Van

der Kemp, 30 July, 1816

My opinion is that there would never have been an

infidel, if there had never been a priest. The
artificial structures they have built on the purest
of all moral systems, for the purpose of deriving
from it pence and power, revolts those who think
for themselves, and who read in that system only
what is really there.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Mrs. Samuel H. Smith,
August, 6, 1816

You say you are a Calvinist. I am not. I am of a

sect by myself, as far as I know.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Ezra Stiles Ely, June
25, 1819
As you say of yourself, I too am an Epicurian. I
consider the genuine (not the imputed) doctrines
of Epicurus as containing everything rational in
moral philosophy which Greece and Rome have left
us.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Short, Oct.
31, 1819

Priests...dread the advance of science as witches

do the approach of daylight and scowl on the fatal
harbinger announcing the subversions of the
duperies on which they live.
-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Correa de Serra,
April 11, 1820

Among the sayings and discourses imputed to him

[Jesus] by his biographers, I find many passages
of fine imagination, correct morality, and of the
most lovely benevolence; and others again of so
much ignorance, so much absurdity, so much
untruth, charlatanism, and imposture, as to
pronounce it impossible that such contradictions
should have proceeded from the same being.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Short, April
13, 1820

To talk of immaterial existences is to talk of

nothings. To say that the human soul, angels, god,
are immaterial, is to say they are nothings, or that
there is no god, no angels, no soul. I cannot reason
otherwise: but I believe I am supported in my
creed of materialism by Locke, Tracy, and
Stewart. At what age of the Christian church this
heresy of immaterialism, this masked atheism,
crept in, I do not know. But heresy it certainly is.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, Aug. 15,
1820

Man once surrendering his reason, has no

remaining guard against absurdities the most
monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the
sport of every wind.
-Thomas Jefferson to James Smith, 1822.
I can never join Calvin in addressing his god. He
was indeed an Atheist, which I can never be; or
rather his religion was Daemonism. If ever man
worshipped a false god, he did.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, April 11,
1823

And the day will come when the mystical

generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his
father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with
the fable of the generation of Minerve in the brain
of Jupiter. But may we hope that the dawn of
reason and freedom of thought in these United
States will do away with this artificial scaffolding,
and restore to us the primitive and genuine
doctrines of this most venerated reformer of
human errors.
-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John Adams, April
11, 1823

It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it

[the Apocalypse], and I then considered it merely
the ravings of a maniac, no more worthy nor
capable of explanation than the incoherences of
our own nightly dreams.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to General Alexander
Smyth, Jan. 17, 1825

May it be to the world, what I believe it will be, (to

some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to
all,) the signal of arousing men to burst the chains
under which monkish ignorance and superstition
had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to
assume the blessings and security of self-
government. All eyes are opened, or opening, to
the rights of man. The general spread of the light
of science has already laid open to every view the
palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not
been born with saddles on their backs, nor a
favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride
them legitimately, by the grace of God.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Roger C. Weightman,
June 24, 1826 (in the last letter he penned)

By George Washington
1. Of all the animosities which have existed
among mankind, those which are caused by
difference of sentiments in religion appear to be
the most inveterate and distressing, and ought
most to be deprecated. I was in hopes that the
enlightened and liberal policy, which has marked
the present age, would at least have reconciled
Christians of every denomination so far that we
should never again see the religious disputes
carried to such a pitch as to endanger the peace
of society. [George Washington, letter to Edward
Newenham, October 20, 1792; from George
Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New
Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 726]

2. There is nothing which can better deserve

our patronage than the promotion of science and
literature. Knowledge is in every country the
surest basis of public happiness. [George
Washington, address to Congress, 8 January,
1790]

3. Religious controversies are always

productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable
hatreds than thsoe which spring from any other
cause. [George Washington, letter to Sir Edward
Newenham, June 22, 1792]

4. ...the path of true piety is so plain as to

require but little political direction. [George
Washington, 1789, responding to clergy
complaints that the Constitution lacked mention of
Jesus Christ, from The Godless Constitution: The
Case Against Religious Correctness, Isacc
Kramnick and R. Laurence Moore W.W. Norton and
Company 101-102]

5. If they are good workmen, they may be

from Asia, Africa or Europe; they may be
Mahometans, Jews, Christians of any sect, or they
may be Atheists.... [George Washington, to Tench
Tighman, March 24, 1784, when asked what type
of workman to get for Mount Vernon, from The
Washington papers edited by Saul Padover]

6. To give opinions unsupported by reasons

might appear dogmatical. [George Washington, to
Alexander Spotswood, November 22, 1798, from
The Washington papers edited by Saul Padover]
7. ...I beg you be persuaded that no one
would be more zealous than myself to establish
effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual
tyranny, and every species of religious
persecution. [George Washington, to United
Baptists Churches of Virginia, May, 1789 from The
Washington papers edited by Saul Padover]

8. As the contempt of the religion of a

country by ridiculing any of its ceremonies, or
affronting its ministers or votaries, has ever been
deeply resented, you are to be particularly careful
to restrain every officer from such imprudence
and folly, and to punish every instance of it. On
the other hand, as far as lies in your power, you
are to protect and support the free exercise of
religion of the country, and the undisturbed
enjoyment of the rights of conscience in religious
matters, with your utmost influence and authority.
[George Washington, to Benedict Arnold,
September 14, 1775 from The Washington papers
edited by Saul Padover]

9. The blessed Religion revealed in the word

of God will remain an eternal and awful monument
to prove that the best Institutions may be abused
by human depravity; and that they may even, in
some instances, be made subservient to the vilest
of purposes.

Famous Atheists, Freethinkers, Diests and

Agnostics
This compilation of quotes, from some of the
worlds greatest thinkers, gives me hope that our
battle is just. There is a
chance that some day the realities of Science will
overcome the obscurities of Theology.
Of Time–Life’s 100 most influential people of the
Millenium, this list includes 19 of them, and 5 are in
the top 10.
Abraham Lincoln
"The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my
profession. I could never give assent to the long,
complicated statements of Christian dogma."
- Abraham Lincoln, American president (1809-
1865).
Albert Einstein
"I do not believe in a personal God and I have
never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If
something is in me which can be called religion
than it is the unbounded admiration for the
structure of the world so far as our science can
reveal it."
"I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes
the objects of his creation, whose purposes are
modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is
but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I
believe that the individual survives the death of
his body, although feeble souls harbor such
thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism."
"I do not believe in the immortality of the
individual, and I consider ethics to be an
exclusively human concern with no superhuman
authority behind it."
"If people are good only because they fear
punishment, and hope for a reward, then we are a
sorry lot indeed."
-Albert Einstein, German-born American physicist
Aldous Huxley
"You never see animals going through the absurd
and often horrible fooleries of magic and religion.
Only man behaves with such gratuitous folly. It is
the price he has to pay for being intelligent but
not, as yet, intelligent enough."
-Aldous Huxley, author "Roots"
Andrew Carnegie
"I don’t believe in God. My god is patriotism. Teach
a man to be a good citizen and you have solved
the problem of life."
- Andrew Carnegie, Scottish-born American
industrialist and philanthropist
Isaac Asimov
"I am an atheist, out and out. It took me a long
time to say it. I've been an atheist for years and
years, but somehow I felt it was intellectually
unrespectable to say that one is an atheist,
because it assumed knowledge that one didn't
have. Somehow it was better to say one was a
humanist or agnostic. I don't have the evidence to
prove that God doesn't exist, but I so strongly
suspect that he doesn't that I don't want to waste
my time."
"Creationists make it sound like a 'theory' is
something you dreamt up after being drunk all
night"
-Isaac Asimov, Russian-born - American author
Ernest Hemingway
"All thinking men are atheists."
On page 144 of Paul Johnson's book Intellectuals,
it states that despite being raised in a strict
Congregationalist household, Ernest "did not only
not believe in God but regarded organized religion
as a menace to human happiness", "seems to have
been devoid of the religious spirit", and "ceased to
practise religion at the earliest possible moment."
Other's have pointed out that Hemingway used the
non-existence of God as a theme in his books.
- Ernest Hemingway, American author (1899-
1961).
Arthur C. Clarke
"It may be that our role on this planet is not to
worship God, but to create him."
"Religion is a byproduct of fear. For much of human
history, it may have been a necessary evil, but
why was it more evil than necessary? Isn't killing
people in the name of God a pretty good definition
of insanity?"
Arthur C. Clarke, author
Charles Darwin
From the age of forty he was, to use his own
words, a complete dis-believer in Christianity. He
professed himself an Agnostic, regarding the
problem of the universe as beyond our solution,
"For myself," he wrote, "I do not believe in any
revelation. As for a future life, every man must
judge for himself between conflicting vague
probabilities."
"The mystery of the beginning of all things is
insoluble by us, and I for one must be content to
remain an agnostic."
"It appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that
direct arguments against christianity and theism
produce hardly any effect on the public; and
freedom of thought is best promoted by the
gradual illumination of men's minds which follows
from the advance of science." [Quoted in How We
Believe: The Search for God in an Age of Science
by Michael Shermer.
Charles Robert Darwin, English naturalist (1809-
1882).
Ayn Rand
"Faith is the commitment of one's consciousness
to beliefs for which one has no sensory evidence
or rational proof. A mystic is a man who treats his
feelings as tools of cognition. Faith is the equation
of feeling with knowledge. "
-Ayn Rand, Russian-born author (1905-1982).
(The Fountainhead)
Benjamin Franklin
"I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in
life, I absenteed myself from Christian assemblies."
"Lighthouses are more helpful then churches."
-Benjamin Franklin, American Founding Father,
author, and inventor
Dave Matthews
"I'm glad some people have that faith. I don't have
that faith. If there is a God, a caring God, then we
have to figure he's done an extraordinary job of
making a very cruel world."
-Dave Matthews, South African rock musician
Carl Sagan
"My view is that if there is no evidence for it, then
forget about it. An agnostic is somebody who
doesn't believe in something until there is
evidence for it, so I'm agnostic."
-Carl Sagan, American astronomer and author
Bertrand Russell
"Religion is based . . . mainly on fear . . . fear of the
mysterious, fear of defeat, fear of death. Fear is
the parent of cruelty, and therefore it is no
wonder if cruelty and religion have gone hand in
hand. . . . My own view on religion is that of
Lucretius. I regard it as a disease born of fear and
as a source of untold misery to the human race."
"Fear is the parent of cruelty, therefore it is no
wonder if religion and cruelty have gone hand-in-
hand."
"I believe that when I die I shall rot, and nothing of
my ego will survive. I am not young, and I love life.
But I should scorn to shiver with terror at the
thought of annihilation. Happiness is none the less
true happiness because it must come to an end,
nor do thought and love lose their value because
they are not everlasting."
"I am myself a dissenter from all known religions,
and I hope that every kind of religious belief will
die out."
- Bertrand Russell, British philosopher, educator,
mathematician, and social critic (1872-1970).
Billy Joel
"I wasn't raised Catholic, but I used to go to Mass
with my friends, and I viewed the whole business
as a lot of very enthralling hocus-pocus. There's a
guy hanging upon the wall in the church, nailed to a
cross and dripping blood, and everybody's blaming
themselves for that man's torment, but I said to
myself, 'Forget it. I had no hand in that evil. I have
no original sin. There’s no blood of any sacred
martyr on my hands. I pass on all of this."
"I believe that all important matters have to be
settled here, not in the clouds somewhere after
we kick off."
-Billy Joel, American musician
Clarence Darrow
"I do not consider it an insult, but rather a
compliment, to be called an agnostic. I do not
pretend to know where many ignorant men are
sure. "
"I believe that relgion is the belief in future life and
in God. I don’t believe in either. I don’t believe in
God as I don’t believe in Mother Goose."
- Clarence Seward Darrow, American lawyer (1857-
1938). (Scopes Monkey Trail- Creationism in
schools)
"Religion is just mind control."
- George Carlin, comedian
Elizabeth Cady-Stanton
"The memory of my own suffering has prevented
me from ever shadowing one young soul with the
superstitions of the Christian religion."
"The Bible and the Church have been the greatest
stumbling blocks in the way of women's
emancipation."
"The bible teaches that woman brought sin and
death into the world, that she precipitated the fall
of the race, that she was arraigned before the
judgment seat of Heaven, tried, condemned and
sentenced. Marriage for her was to be a condition
of bondage, maternity a period of suffering and
anguish, and in silence and subjection, she was to
play the role of a dependent on man's bounty for
all her material wants, and for all the information
she might desire...Here is the Bible position of
woman briefly summed up."
She wrote of the Bible, "I found nothing grand in
the history of the Jews nor in the morals
inculcated in the Pentateuch. Surely the writers
had a very low idea of the nature of their god.
They made him not only anthropomorphic, but of
the very lowest type, jealous and revengeful,
loving violence rather than mercy. I know of no
other books that so fully teach the subjection and
degradation of women." [Women Without
Superstition]
- Elizabeth Cady Stanton, American suffragist
(1815-1902).
Francois Marie Arouet "Voltaire"
"Every sensible man, every honorable man, must
hold the Christian sect in horror."
"Christianity is the most ridiculous, the most
absurd and bloody religion that has ever infected
the world."
"Nothing can be more contrary to religion and the
clergy than reason and common sense."
[Philosophical Dictionary, 1764]
"Superstition, born of paganism and adopted by
Judaism, invested the Christian Church from
earliest times. All the fathers of the Church,
without exception, believed in the power of magic.
The Church always condemned magic, but she
always believed in it: she did not excommunicate
sorcerers as madmen who were mistaken, but as
men who were really in communication with the
devil." [Philosophical Dictionary, 1764]
"If we believe absurdities, we shall commit
atrocities."
"Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is
absurd."
Perhaps never really an atheist, nonetheless,
Voltaire changed late in life into a fearless
crusader against religious cruelty and injustice. In
Voltaire’s time it was forbidden to be an Atheist.
Admitting to be one, brought the death sentence.
Hence he was a Diest for most of his life.
- Francois Marie Arouet "Voltaire", French author
and playwright (1694-1778).
Frank Zappa
"If you want to get together in any exclusive
situation and have people love you, fine- but to
hang all this desperate sociology on the idea of
The Cloud-Guy who has The Big Book, who knows if
you've been bad or good- and CARES about any of
it- to hang it all on that, folks, is the chimpanzee
part of the brain working. "
-Frank Zappa, American musician
Galileo Galilei
"They know that it is human nature to take up
causes whereby a man may oppress his neighbor,
no matter how unjustly. ... Hence they have had no
trouble in finding men who would preach the
damnability and heresy of the new doctrine from
the very pulpit."
-Galileo Galilei, Italian astronomer
Freidrich Nietzsche
"Faith means not wanting to know what is true."
"So long as the priest, that professional negator,
slanderer and poisoner of life, is regarded as a
superior type of human being, there cannot be any
answer to the question: What is truth?"
"The Christian faith from the beginning, is sacrifice:
the sacrifice of all freedom, all pride, all self-
confidence of spirit; it is at the same time
subjection, a self-derision, and self-mutilation."
"All religions bear traces of the fact that they
arose during the intellectual immaturity of the
human race – before it had learned the obligations
to speak the truth. Not one of them makes it the
duty of its God to be truthful and understandable
in his communications."
"The most serious parody I have ever heard was
this: In the beginning was nonsense, and the
nonsense was with God, and the nonsense was
God."
"There is no devil and no hell. Thy soul will be dead
even sooner than thy body: fear therefore nothing
any more."
- Friedrich Nietzsche, German philologist and
philosopher (1844-1900).
Gene Roddenberry
"I condemn false prophets, I condemn the effort to
take away the power of rational decision, to drain
people of their free will--and a hell of a lot of
money in the bargain. Religions vary in their
degree of idiocy, but I reject them all. For most
people, religion is nothing more than a substitute
for a malfunctioning brain."
"We must question the story logic of having an all-
knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty
Humans, and then blames them for his own
mistakes."
-Gene Roddenberry, Creator of Star Trek (1921-
1991).
George Bernard Shaw
"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic
is no more to the point than the fact that a
drunken man is happier than a sober one."
"At present there is not a single credible
established religion in the world."
- George Bernard Shaw, Irish-born English
playwright (1856-1950).
Arthur Rubenstein, Polish-American pianist (1886-
1982).
During a radio interview with Rubenstein the
conversation took a sharp turn away from music
when the interviewer suddeenly asked, "Mr.
Rubenstein, do you believe in God?" Rubenstein
calmly replied, "No. You see, what I believe in is
something much greater."
Gloria Steinam
"By the year 2000, we will, I hope, raise our
children to believe in human potential, not God."
"It's an incredible con job when you think of it, to
believe something now in exchange for life after
death. Even corporations with all their reward
systems don't try to make it posthumous."
-Gloria Steinam, women's rights activist
Helen Keller
"There is so much in the bible against which every
insinct of my being rebels, so much so that I
regret the necessity which has compelled me to
read it through from beginning to end. I do not
think that the knowledge I have gained of its
history and sources compensates me for the
unpleasant details it has forced upon my
attention."
-Helen Keller, American lecturer
James Madison, American president and political
theorist (1751-1836).
"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal
establishment of Christianity been on trial. What
has been its fruits? More or less, in all places,
pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and
servility in the laity; in both, Famous Atheist &
Quotessuperstition, bigotry, and persecution."
"In no instance have . . . the churches been
guardians of the liberties of the people."
"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the
mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise."
"What influence in fact have Christian ecclesiastical
establishments had on civil society? In many
instances they have been upholding the thrones of
political tyranny. In no instance have they been
seen as the guardians of the liberties of the
people. Rulers who wished to subvert the public
liberty have found in the clergy convenient
auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure
and perpetuate liberty, does not need the clergy."
During almost fifteen centuries has the legal
establishment of Christianity been on trial. What
has been its fruits? More or less, in all places,
pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and
servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry,
and persecution."
-John Adams, U.S. President, Founding Father of
the United States
"Where do we find a precept in the Bible for
Creeds, Confessions, Doctrines and Oaths, and
whole carloads of other trumpery that we find
religion encumbered with in these days?"
"The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover
for absurdity."
"This would be the best of all possible worlds, if
there were no religion in it."
John Stuart Mill
"The time appears to me to have come when it is
the duty of all to make their dissent from religion
known."
- John Stuart Mill, English philosopher and
economist (1806-1873). Freethinker, if not
strictly atheist.
Karl Marx
"The wretchedness of religion is at once an
expression and a protest against real
wretchedness. Religion is the sigh of the
oppressed creature, the feeling of a heartless
world, just as it is the spirit of unspiritual
conditions. It is the opium of the people."
"The social principles of Christianity preach
cowardice, self-contempt, abasement, submission,
humility, in a word all the qualities of the canaille."
- Karl Marx, German political philosopher and
economist (1818-1883).
Leo Tolstoy
"To regard Christ as God, and to pray to him, are
to my mind the greatest possible sacrilege."
-Leo Tolstoy, Russian revolutionary
Marilyn Manson
"Who wants to go to Heaven with all those asshole
angels?"
-Marilyn Manson, American rock musician
Kurt Vonnegut
"Say what you will about the sweet miracle of
unquestioning faith, I consider a capacity for it
terrifying and absolutely vile."
-Kurt Vonnegut, American author
Napoleon Bonaparte
"Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common
people quiet."
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering
the rich."
"All religions have been made by men."
-Napoleon Bonaparte, French emperor
Dr. James Watson
"I don't think we're here for anything, we're just
products of evolution. You can say 'Gee, your life
must be pretty bleak if you don't think there's a
purpose' but I'm anticipating a good lunch."
-Dr. James Watson, American biologist,
(Discoverer of DNA.)
Frank Zappa, American musician (1940-1993).
"Who you jivin' with that cosmic debris?"
"Reality is what it is, not what you want it to be."
"If you want to get together in any exclusive
situation and have people love you, fine -- but to
hang all this desperate sociology on the idea of
The Cloud-Guy who has The Big Book, who knows if
you've been bad or good -- and CARES about any
of it -- to hang it all on that, folks, is the
chimpanzee part of the brain working." [The Real
Frank Zappa Book, ("Church and State" chapter) by
Frank Zappa and Peter Occhiogrosso, p. 301]
Jawaharlal Nehru, Indian statesman (1889-1964).
A self-professed atheist, he said of India, "No
country or people who are slaves to dogma and
dogmatic mentality can progress." [Key Ideas in
Human Thought]
James Joyce, Irish author (1882-1941).
Joyce rejected Catholicism and indeed all religion
when he was a young man (as portrayed in A
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man). He
considered Catholicism to be "black magic", and
deplored its anti-individuality. "For me there is ony
one alternative to scholasticism, scepticism." He
also rejected the church's moralizing, etc. etc.
Henry Louis "H.L." Mencken, American editor and
critic (1880-1956).
"We must respect the other fellow's religion, but
only in the same sense and to the same extent
that we respect his theory that his wife is
beautiful and his children smart."
Religion is "so absurd that it comes close to
imbecility." ["Treatise on the Gods"]
"Since the early days, [the church] has thrown
itself violently against every effort to liberate the
body and mind of man. It has been, at all times and
everywhere, the habitual and incorrigible defender
of bad governments, bad laws, bad social theories,
bad institutions. It was, for centuries, an apologist
for slavery, as it was an apologist for the divine
right of kings."
"Faith may be defined briefly as an illogical belief in
the occurrence of the improbable. . . . A man full of
faith is simply one who has lost (or never had) the
capacity for clear and realistic thought. He is not a
mere ass: he is actually ill."
"God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent,
the helpless, the miserable. They find not only
sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of
superiority, soothing to their macerated egos; He
will set them above their betters." [from the
alt.quotations archive, found from
http://www.starlingtech.com/quotes/search.html]
"Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I
hold in veneration--courage, clear thinking,
honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of the
truth." [1925]
"Men become civilized, not in proportion to their
willingness to believe, but in proportion to their
readiness to doubt."
"For centuries, theologians have attempted to
explain the unknowable in terms of the-not-worth-
knowing."
"The most common of all follies is to believe
passionately in the palpably not true. It is the chief
occupation of mankind."
John Lennon, British musician (1940-1980).
Lennon rejected religion and dogma, but he was
not really an atheist - he espoused a sort of vague
spirituality.
From the song "Imagine"
"Imagine there's no heaven, It's easy if you try, No
hell below us, Above us only sky, imagine all the
people Living for today. . .
Imagine there's no countries, It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for, No religion too ."
From the song, "God,"
"God is a concept By which we measure Our pain
I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-Ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in Tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus"
And, from the song, "I Found Out"
"There ain't no Jesus gonna come from the sky
Now that I found out I know I can cry, I found out! "
Walter "Walt" Disney, American cartoonist,
showman, and film producer (1901-1966).
I had one report that Disney was non-religious.
Apparently, he was not a member of any religion
and did not attend services. Also, he apparently
had an entirely secular funeral. It was "very
private" and off-limits to the press, perhaps to
conceal it was not religious. There is no "In God we
Trust" on Disney Dollars!
Olof Palme, Swedish prime minister (1927-1986).
Palme is said to be partly responsible for the
current state of wide-spread disbelief in Sweden.
He had conflicts with the Church of Sweden during
his administration, because he wished to separate
it completely from the state. He said, "human
beings will find a balanced situation when they do
good things not because God says it, but because
they feel like doing them."
Margaret Sanger, American birth control activist,
founder of Planned Parenthood (1883-1966).
"No Gods, No Masters."
Frank Lloyd Wright
"I believe in God, only I spell it Nature."
-
Frank Lloyd Wright, American architect (1869-
1959).
Denis Diderot
"Man will never be free until the last king is
strangled with the entrails of the last priest."
-Denis Diderot, French philosopher, author, and
encyclopedist (1713-1784).
Sir Alfred Hitchcock, British film director (1899-
1980).
I have heard that in later life, Hitchcock become
areligious. If you have any information on his
beliefs, please let me know. Here is an anecdote
that may illustrate his growing anti-religious
sentiments. (Though at the time he was
apparently still a church-going Catholic.)
Driving through a Swiss city one day, Hitchcock
suddenly pointed out of the car window and said,
"That is the most frightening sight I have ever
seen." His companion was surprised to see nothing
more alarming that a priest in conversation with a
little boy, his hand on the child's shoulder. "Run,
little boy," cried Hitchcock, leaning out of the car.
"Run for your life!"
Karl Popper, Austrian/British philosopher (1902-
1994).
He was the author of such well-known works as
The Logic of Scientific Discovery, The Open
Society and Its Enemies, The Poverty of
Historicism, Conjectures and Refutations, and
many others. He was particularly influential in the
philosophy of science for his defense of fallibilism
and his critique of induction. Popper described
himself as an agnostic, and he was a member of
the Academy of Humanism.
The magazine, Skeptic Vol. 6, No. 2 (1998)
features a 1969 interview with Karl Popper - "Karl
Popper On God: The Lost Interview" by Edward
Zerin. In this interview Popper discusses his
agnosticism, his attitudes towards both Judaism
and Christianity, the reasons for his disbelief which
he combined with a respect for the moral
teachings of both religions.
Richard Burton, Welsh actor (1925-1984).
According to the Denver Post, Richard Burton
wrote this in his diary in 1969: "The more I read
about man and his maniacal ruthlessness and his
murderous envious scatological soul, the more I
realize that he will never change. Our stupidity is
immortal, nothing will change it. The same
mistakes, the same prejudices, the same injustice,
the same lusts wheel endlessly around the parade
ground of the centuries. Immutable and ineluctable.
I wish I could believe in a god of some kind but I
simply cannot."
Irving Berlin, Russian-born American lyricist and
composer (1888-1989).
In her biography of her father, Irving Berlin: A
Daughter's Memoir, Mary Ellin Barrett mentions her
father's "agnosticism," (p.123) and refers to him
as a "nonbeliever," (p.124
George Orwell (1903-1950).
Orwell's biography calls him an atheist. His books
also have themes that are explicitly and/or
suggestively anti-religious. In Animal Farm, the
parody was a raven named Moses who told the
animals stories about a great mountain in the sky
that they would go to when they died, called Sugar
Candy Mountain. In 1984, the concept of Big
Brother is a parody of God: You never see him, but
the fact of him is drilled into so many people's
minds that they become robots, almost. Plus, if
you speak bad against Big Brother, it's a
Thoughtcrime.
Robert A. Heinlein, American science-fiction author
(1907-1988).
Being a fiction author, all Heinlein left us is
quotations from characters in his novels. There are
lots to choose from, here are a couple from
Lazarus Long in Time Enough for Love:
"History does not record anywhere or at any time
a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a
crutch for people not strong enough to stand up
to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff,
most people do have a religion and spend time and
money on it and seem to derive considerable
pleasure from fiddling with it."
"Any priest or shaman must be presumed guilty
until proven innocent."

William M. Gaines, American publisher (1922-

1992).
Founder and publisher of Mad magazine. He was
quite definitely an atheist, according to Frank
Jacobs's biography, The MAD World of William M.
Gaines. When emphasizing his sincerity, Gaines
would declare, "On my honor as an atheist . . ."
Also, when long-time contributor Dave Berg would
greet him with "May God give you his blessing,"
Gaines would politely reply, "Dave, shut the hell
up!"
Charles Schultz, American cartoonist (1922-
2000).
In an interview in 1999, Schultz said that although
his philosophical views evolved over the years,
"the term that best describes me now is 'secular
humanist.'" He went on to say, "I despise those
shallow religious comics. Dennis the Menace, for
instance, is the most shallow. When they show him
praying--I just can't stand that sort of thing, talking
to God about some cutesy thing that he'd done
during the day. I don't think Hank Ketcham [Dennis'
creator] has any deep knowledge of things like
that." Schultz cringed at the mention of Family
Circus, the strip by Bill Keane that is strewn with
cutesy references to Jesus (who wants to protect
children on school buses, but can't because of
laws about separation of church and state!) and
those sickly-sweet images of invisible deceased
grandparents looming protectively over the kids.
"Oh, I can't stand that," Schultz laughed. "You could
get diabetes reading them, couldn't you?"
Robert A. Heinlen
"History does not record anywhere or at any time
a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a
crutch for people not strong enough to stand up
to the unkonwn without help. But, like dandruff,
most people do have a religion and spend time and
money on it and seem to derive considerable
pleasure from fiddling with it."
"Any priest or shaman must be presumed guilty
until proven innocent."
-Robert A. Heinlen, American science-ficiton.
Samuel Clemens "Mark Twain"
"Faith is believing something you know ain’t true."
"If Christ were here now there is one thing he
would not be -- a Christian."
"It (the Bible) is full of interest. It has noble poetry
in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-
drenched history; and some good morals; and a
wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand
lies."
"A man is accepted into a church for what he
believes and he is turned out for what he knows."
"Our Bible reveals to us the character of our god
with minute and remorseless exactness... It is
perhaps the most damnatory biography that
exists in print anywhere. It makes Nero an angel of
light … by contrast."
"I cannot see how a man of any large degree of
humorous perception can ever be religious --
unless he purposely shut the eyes of his mind &
keep them shut by force."
"If there is a God, he is a malign thug."
"'In God We Trust.' I don't believe it would sound
any better if it were true."
"It ain't the parts of the Bible that I can't
understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do
understand."
"Man is a marvelous curiosity . . . he thinks he is
the Creator's pet . . . he even believes the Creator
loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to
admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him
out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He
listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." [Letters from the
Earth]
Mr. Clemens was once asked whether he feared
death. He said that he did not, in view of the fact
that he had been dead for billions and billions of
years before he was born, and had not suffered
the slightest inconvenience from it.
- Samuel Clemens "Mark Twain", American author
and humorist (1835-1910).
Marquis de Sade, French libertine (1740-1814).
In his dialogue, Philosophy in the Bedroom, de Sade
insults and derides Christianity several times. In his
novel 120 Days of Sodom, he is quoted as saying
"The idea of God is the sole wrong for which I
cannot forgive mankind." Also, the "Dialogue
Between a Priest and a Dying Man," which can be
found online, is clearly the work of someone with
contempt for religion.
Robert G. Ingersoll
"With soap, baptism is a good thing."
"The inspiration of the Bible depends on the
ignorance of the person who reads it."
"Fear believes—courage doubts. Fear falls up the
earth and prays--- courage stands erect and
thinks. Fear is barbarism---courage is civilization.
Fear believes in witchcraft, devils and ghosts. Fear
is religion, courage is science."
"Hands that help are far better then lips that
pray."
"Ministers say that they teach charity. That is
natural. They live on hand-outs. All beggars teach
that others should give."
"For the most part we inherit our opinions. We are
the heirs of habits and mental customs. Our
beliefs, like the fashion of our garments, depend
on where we were born. We are molded and
fashioned by our surroundings.
Environment is a sculptor -- a painter. If we had
been born in Constantinople, then most of us
would have said: 'There is no God but Allah, and
Mohammed is his prophet.' If our parents had lived
on the banks of the Ganges, we would have been
worshipers of Siva, longing for the heaven of
Nirvana. As a rule, children love their parents,
believe what they teach, and take great pride in
saying that the religion of mother is good enough
for them."
"The clergy know that I know that they know that
they do not know."
"All who doubted or denied would be lost. -- To live
a moral and honest life - to keep your contracts,
to take care of wife and child – to make a happy
home - to be a good citizen - a patriot - a just and
thoughtful man – was simply a respectable way of
going to hell."
"God did not reward men for being honest,
generous and brave, but for the act of faith.
Without faith, all the so-called virtues were sins.
And the men who practiced these virtues, without
faith, deserved to suffer eternal pain. All of these
comforting and reasonable things were taught by
the ministers in their pulpits -- by teachers in
Sunday schools and by parents at home. The
children were victims. They were assaulted in the
cradle -- in their mother's arms. Then, the
schoolmaster carried on the war against their
natural sense, and all the books they read were
filled with the same impossible truths. The poor
children were helpless. The atmosphere they
breathed was filled with lies -- lies that mingled
with their blood. "
"Why should I allow that same God to tell me how
to raise my kids, who had to drown His own?"
- Robert Green Ingersoll, American politician and
lecturer (1833-1899).
Robert Frost
"I turned to speak to God, About the world's
despair; But to make bad matters worse, I found
God wasn't there."
"Forgive, O Lord, my little joke on Thee and I'll
forgive Thy great big one on me."
"I hold it to be the inalienable right of anybody to
go to hell in his own way."
-Robert Frost, American poet
Susan B. Anthony
"I was born a heretic. I always distrust people who
know so much about what God wants them to do
to their fellows."
- Susan B. Anthony, American suffragist (1820-
1906).
Vincent Van Gogh
"I can very well do without God both in my life and
in my painting, but I cannot, suffering as I am, do
without something which is greater than I am,
which is my life, the power to create."
-Vincent Van Gogh, Dutch painter
Thomas Jefferson (Deist)
"History I believe furnishes no example of a priest-
ridden people maintaining a free civil government.
This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which
their political as well as religious leaders will always
avail themselves for their own purpose. " –
Thomas Jefferson to Baron von Humboldt, 1813
"The Christian god can easily be pictured as
virtually the same god as the many ancient gods
of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three
headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If
one wishes to know more of this raging, three
headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at
the caliber of people who say they serve him.
They are always of two classes: fools and
hypocrites."
"Millions of innocent men, women and children,
since the introduction of Christianity, have been
burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have
not advanced one inch towards uniformity."
–Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782.
"And the day will come when the mystical
generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his
father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with
the fable of the generation of Minerve in the brain
of Jupiter. But may we hope that the dawn of
reason and freedom of thought in these United
States will do away with this artificial scaffolding,
and restore to us the primitive and genuine
doctrines of this most venerated reformer of
human errors." –Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John
Adams, April 11, 1823
"Religions are all alike – founded upon fables and
mythologies."
"I do not find in orthodox Christianity one
redeeming feature."
"Christianity is the most perverted system that
ever shone on man."
"It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there
are 20 gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket
nor breaks my leg."
- Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President, author,
scientist, architect, educator, and diplomat
Madalyn Murray O'Hair, American atheist activist
(1923-1995).
O'Hair challenged prayer in the schools in the US
Supreme Court (Murray vs. Curlett) and won. She
went on to found American Atheists and became
perhaps America's most infamous and outspoken
atheist. When asked, "Do you support religious
freedon," she responded, "Oh, absolutely! I feel
that everyone has a right to be insane. And that
they can do this any place at all. If they want
religious schools, build them! My only problem with
that is, do not ask for the land to be tax-free. Do
not ask for a government grant to build them. Do
not ask for money for teacher's salaries, or more
books, or anything else. Just go ahead and do your
thing, and do it yourself. Just exactly the same as
if you were a nudist. Somebody doesn't get a tax
break for being a Mason, or whatever they're
interested in. [Interview in Freedom Writer
magazine, March 1989]
William Howard Taft
"I do not believe in the divinity of Christ, and there
are many other of the postulates of the orthodox
creed to which I cannot subscribe."
- William Howard Taft, U.S. President
Thomas Edison
"Religion is all bunk."
"I cannot believe in the immortality of the soul....
No, all this talk of an existence for us, as
individuals, beyond the grave is wrong. It is born of
our tenacity of life – our desire to go on living …
our dread of coming to an end."
- Thomas Edison, American inventor (1847-1931).
Thomas Paine (Deist?) – Author of "Common
Sense"
"The most formidable weapon against errors of
every kind is reason. I have never used any other,
and I trust I never shall."
"Revelation is a communication of something which
the person to whom the thing id revealed did not
know before. For if I have done, a thing, or seen it
done, it needs no Revelation to tell me, I have
done or seen it done nor enable me to tell it or
write it. Revelation therefore cannot be applied to
anything done upon earth, of which man is himself
actor or witness and consequently all the historical
part of the Bible which is almost the whole of it, is
not within the meaning and compass of the word
Revelation and therefore is not the Word of God."--
Thomas Paine The Age of Reason
"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the
voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous
executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with
which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be
more consistent that we call it the word of a
demon than the word of God. It is a history of
wickedness that has served to corrupt and
brutalize mankind." From - The Age of Reason
"All national institutions of churches, whether
Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other
than human inventions, set up to terrify and
enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.
"
Labeled an atheist, but actually a deist, raised by
Quakers, who was extremely critical of organized
religion. According to Carl Sagan in The Demon
Haunted World, "later generations reviled him for
his social and religious views. Theodore Roosevelt
called him a 'filthy little atheist.' . . . He is probably
the most illustrious American Revolutionary
uncommemorated by a monument in Washington,
D.C."
The Age of Reason also attacks Christianity as a
system of superstition that "produces fanatics"
and "serves the purposes of despotism." When
the book reached England, several sellers were
convicted of blasphemy and jailed.
"Persecution is not an original feature in any
religion; but it is always the strongly marked
feature of all religions established by law."
- Thomas Paine, English born American author and
revolutionary leader (1737-1809).
Sigmund Freud
"Neither in my private life nor in my writings, have I
ever made a secret of being an out-and-out
unbeliever. "
"Religion is comparable to a childhood neurosis."
"The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign
to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude
to humanity it is painful to think that the great
majority of mortals will never be able to rise
above this view of life."
Freud certainly regarded belief in God as an illusion
that mature men and women should lay aside. The
idea of God was not a lie but a device of the
unconscious which needed to be decoded by
psychology. A personal god was nothing more than
an exalted father-figure: desire for such a deity
sprang from infantile yearnings for a powerful,
protective father, for justice and fairness and for
life to go on forever. God is simply a projection of
these desires, feared and worshipped by human
beings out of an abiding sense of helplessness.
Religion belonged to the infancy of the human
race; it had been a necessary stage in the
transition from childhood to maturity. It had
promoted ethical values which were essential to
society. Now that humanity had come of age,
however, it should be left behind. [A History of
God]

psychoanalyst (1856-1939).

"We have just enough religion to make us hate but
not enough religion to make us love one another"
Oscar Wilde -
"When I think of all the harm the Bible has done, I
despair of ever writing anything to equal it."

Thomas Henry Huxley, English biologist (1825-
1895).
Huxley coined the term "agnostic."
"...inclined to think that not far from the invention
of fire must rank the invention of doubt"
"Henceforward, I might hope to hear no more of
the assertion that we [Agnostics] are necessarily
Materialists, Idealists, Atheists, Theists, or any
other ists, if experience had led me to think that
the proved falsity of a statement was any
guarantee against its reputation. Those who
appreciate the nature of our position will see, at
once, that when Ecclesiasticism declares that we
ought to believe this, that, and the other, and are
very wicked if we don't, it is impossible for us to
give any answer but this: We have not the
slightest objection to believe anything you like, if
you will give us good grounds for belief; but, if you
cannot, we must respectfully refuse, even if that
refusal should wreck morality and insure our own
damnation several times over. We are quite
content to leave that decision to the future. The
course of the past has impressed us with the firm
conviction that no good ever comes out of
falsehood, and we feel warranted in refusing even
to experiment in that direction" [essay
"Agnosticism and Christianity"]
"That it is wrong for a man to say he is certain of
the objective truth of a proposition unless he can
provide evidence which logically justifies that
certainty. This is what agnosticism asserts and in
my opinion, is all that is essential to agnosticism."
-Thomas Henry Huxley, English biologist
Ambrose Bierce, American writer (1842-1914?).
Author of The Devil's Dictionary. Here are some
entries:
FAITH: Belief without evidence in what is told by
one who speaks without knowledge, of things
without parallel.
RELIGION: A daughter of Hope and Fear, explaining
to Ignorance the nature of the Unknowable.
OCEAN: A body of water occupying about two
thirds of a world made for man- who has no gills.
PRAY: To ask that the laws of the universe be
annulled in behalf of a single petitioner confessedly
unworthy.
SAINT: A dead sinner revised and edited.
In the definition of occident, he claims christians to
be "a powerful subtribe of the Hypocrites, whose
principal industries are murder and cheating, which
they are pleased to call 'war' and 'commerce'".

Percy Bysshe Shelley, English poet (1792-1822).
Thrown out of Oxford University for writing the
essay, The Necessity of Atheism in 1810.
"If God has spoken, why is the world not
convinced."
"It is easier to suppose that the universe has
existed for all eternity than to conceive a being
beyond its limits capable of creating it."
Other dead Atheists
Anaxagoras, Greek philosopher (500?-428? BCE).
. . . probably the first freethinker we know of to be
condemned for his beliefs." "He regarded the
conventional gods as mythic abstractions
endowed with anthropomorphic attributes. His
writings led him to a dungeon, charged with
impiety, probably about the year 450 B.C.E." Only
the intervention of the great statesman and orator
Pericles saved Anaxagoras from a death sentence.
He had to pay a fine and, according to some
accounts, was banished. He lived his final years in
exile.
Diagoras "the Atheist" of Melos, Greek poet, (5th
cent. BCE).
Threw a wooden image of a god into a fire,
remarking that the deity should perform another
miracle and save itself. The uproar this caused in
Athens prompted Diagoras to flee for his life.
"Athens outlawed him and offered a reward for his
capture dead or alive. He lived out his life in
Spartan territory."
Democritus, Greek philosopher (460?-357 BCE).
The father of Materialism. Argued that mechanical
relationships or arrangements of the atoms
account for various characteristics of nature, the
intimation here being that the natural order of the
world resulted from chance. Even morality, the
soul, and all mental life are reducible to
mechanistic terms with physical imperceptible
atoms as their basic structure. Spiritual reality
does not exist; what appears to be spiritual is
attributed simply to subperceptible atomic
structure or else to mere superstition. Hence, the
Democritan philosophy of mechanistic Materialism
is complete, self-sufficient, and self-contained.

Epicurus, Greek philosopher (341-270 BCE).
As a Materialist, Epicurus accepted the idea that
the soul consists of atomic material which
disintegrates at death, at which time all sensation
ceases. Consequently, he said, death need not be
a matter of anxious concern, inasmuch as it is
merely the state in which all sensation ceases.

Lucius Annaeus Seneca "the Younger," Roman stoic
philosopher, writer, and politician (4-65).
"Religion is regarded by the common people as
true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful."
John of Lackland, English King (1199-1216)
(1167?-1216).
John may not have been a bonafide atheist, but he
moved farther in that direction than was common
in medieval times. From the biography, Eleanor of
Aquitaine (John's mother) by Alison Weir, p. 234:
"John's bad press in the monastic chronicles may
be attributed to his failures as a king *and his
cynical contempt for religion*; he quarrelled with
the Church during his reign and was
excommunicated. 'He led such a dissipated life
that he ceased to believe in the resurrection of
the dead and other articles of the Christian
faith...'(Medieval chroniclers Roger of Wendover
and Matthew Paris; quoted in Weir). Once, upon
seeing a buck slaughtered, at the end of a hunt,
remarked 'You happy beast, never forced to
patter prayers nor dragged to Holy Mass.'" (Paris,
in Weir).
Christopher Marlowe, English dramatist and poet
(1564-1593).
"I count religion but a childish toy and hold there is
no sin but innocence." - the character Machiavel, in
The Jew of Malta, "Prologue." The lines are often
modernized: "I count religion but a childish toy and
hold there is no sin but ignorance."
Thomas Woolston, English writer (1669-1731) or?
(1670-1733).
Was put under house arrest for the remainder of
his life when he voiced doubt about the
resurrection and other Bible miracles. [Holy
Horrors]
Jean Meslier, French erstwhile priest (1678-1733).
A country priest who led an exemplary life, he died
an atheist. He left behind a memoir which was
circulated by Voltaire. This expressed his disgust
with humanity and his inability to believe in God.
Newton's infinite space, Meslier believed, was the
only eternal reality: nothing but matter existed.
Religion was a device used by the rich to oppress
the poor and render them powerless. Christianity
was distinguished by its particularly ludicrous
doctrines, such as the Trinity and the Incarnation.

Noel Coward, English playwright, author, and
performer (1899-1973).
Coward proclaims several times in his diaries (The
Noel Coward Diaries, Weidenfeld & Nicholson
1982, ISBN 0 75380 547 2) that he is an atheist,
at least during the time he was writing them
(1941-1969).
David Hume, Scottish philosopher and historian
(1711-1776).
"No testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle,
unless . . . its falsehood would be more miraculous
than the fact which it endeavors to establish." [Of
Miracles]
"The Christian religion not only was at first
attended with miracles, but even at this day
cannot be believed by any reasonable person
without one."
"When I hear a man is religious, I conclude that he
is a rascal, although I have known some instances
of very good men being religious."
Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, British born
actor, director, and producer (1889-1977).
"By simple common sense I don't believe in God, in
none."
Quoted in Manual of a Perfect Atheist.
Albert Camus, French author, Existential

Preached a heroic atheism. People should reject
God defiantly in order to pour out all their loving
solicitude upon mankind. [A History of God]
Jean Paul Sartre, French Existential philosopher and
author (1905-80).
Sartre insisted that even if God existed [which he
did not believe], it was still necessary to reject
him, since the idea of God negates our freedom.
Traditional religion tells us that we must conform
to God's idea of humanity to become fully human.
Instead, we must see human beings as liberty
incarnate. [A History of God]
Burrhus Frederick "B. F." Skinner, American
Psychologist (1904-1990).
In an interview with CBS radio a few weeks before
his death, Skinner was asked if he feared death.
He replied, "I don't believe in God, so I'm not afraid
of dying."
H. P. Lovecraft, American author (1890-1937).
"H. P. Lovecraft was strongly influenced, not only
by his mother but also by the books he read. . . .
At five, he . . . (read) . . . a junior edition of The
Arabian Nights. He at once fell in love with the
glories of medieval Islam and spent hours playing
Arab. . . . One effect of dabbling in non-Christian
traditions was to make Lovecraft skeptical of the
faith of his fathers. Before he reached his fifth
birthday anniversary, young Lovecraft announced
that he no longer believed in Santa Claus. Further
private thought convinced him that arguments for
the existence of God suffered the same
weaknesses as those for Santa. At five, Lovecraft
was placed in the infant class of the Sunday school
of the venerable First Baptist Meeting House on
College Hill. The results were not what the elders
expected. When the feeding of Christian martyrs
to the lions came up, Lovecraft shocked the class
by gleefully taking the side of the lions. " From a
biography by Sprague De Camp
". . . His skeptical view of the supernatural - his
nontheism - and his love of the Classical world
were not the only lasting passions formed in his
childhood.
". . . he embraced eighteenth-century rationalism,
which confirmed him in his atheistic materialism."
Ludwig Andreas von Feuerbach, German
philosopher (1804-1872).
Feuerbach was a prominent materialist philosopher
of the nineteenth century. His book, The Essence
of Christianity, quickly became a classic of
freethought literature. In that book he argued that
religion is the projection of human wishes and is a
form of alienation. He began his philosophical
career as a Hegelian idealist but soon moved in
the direction of materialism thus encouraging the
Young Hegelians with whom he was associated to
similiarly move. The Essence of Christianity
electrified the Young Hegelians, particularly
influencing the youthful Karl Marx who adopted and
extended its theory of alienation.
Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher (1788-
1860).

no Reason, no God, no Spirit at work in the world:
nothing but brute instinctive will to live. [A History

Sir Leslie Stephen, English writer and thinker
(1832-1904).
Sir Leslie Stephen was one of Britain's most
famous agnostics of the nineteenth century. In
fact while Thomas Huxley was the person who
coined the term agnostic it was Stephen who
popularized it.
Leslie Stephen was born into a family of prominent
Evangelicals of the Clapham Sect. He was
educated at Eton and at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. At
Cambridge he was made a fellow which in those
days required taking holy orders and he was
ordained an Anglican priest. By 1862 his
developing religious doubts led him to resign his
fellowship and by 1864 he left Cambridge for
good.
He married Thackeray's daughter, Harriet Marian in
1867 but she died in 1875 leaving him one child.
He later married Julia Jackson Duckworth and had
four children including his best known child the
novelist Virginia Woolf.
After abandoning his academic career he made his
living as a journalist and writer. He edited the
Dictionary of National Biography. He also wrote
extensively on history, religion, and philosophy.
Leslie Stephen's agnosticism was rooted in
considerations of the problem of evil. Attempts to
resolve this problem by emphasizing the
transcendence and incomprehensibility of God was
to him simply evasiveness. Such apologetics was
in his view simply a disguised skepticism.
The rejection of belief in God for Stephen raised
the question of how to ground morality if there is
no deity. That is he sought to answer the
Dostoyevskian question "If there is no God is not
everything permitted?" Stephen sought to answer
this question in his book The Science of Ethics.
There he proposed a scientific ethics in which J.S.
Mill's utilitarianism would be synthesized with
evolutionary theory.
In addition to The Science of Ethics, Stephen wrote
many other works including Essays on Freethinking
and Plainspeaking (1873), An Agnostic's Apology
and Other Essays (1893), as well as History of
English Thought in the Eighteenth Century (1876),
and The English Utilitarians (1900). [James
Farmelant]
William Howard Taft, American President and Chief
Justice (1857-1930).
Probably not an atheist, but I thought it was
interesting that an American president in this
century said: "I do not believe in the divinity of
Christ and there are many other of the postulates
of the orthodox creed to which I cannot
subscribe."
Rudolf Carnap, German-American philosopher
(1891-1970).
A central figure of the Vienna Circle which was
devoted to the philosophy of logical positivism. In
his Intellectual Autobiography printed in The
Philosophy of Rudolf Carnap ed. by Paul Schilpp (La
Salle, Illinois: Open Court, 1963) he described the
basic worldview he shared with the rest of the
Circle. The first is the view that man has no
supernatural protectors or enemies . Second, we
had the conviction that mankind is able to change
the conditions of life in such a way that many of
the sufferings of today may be avoided . The third
is the view that all deliberate action presupposes
knowledge of the world , that the scientific
method is the best method of acquiring knowledge
and that therefore science must be regarded as
one of the most valuable instruments for the
improvement of human life. In Vienna we had no
names for these views; if we look for a brief
designation in American terminology for the
combination of these three convictions, the best
would seem to be 'scientific humanism.'"
Joseph McCabe, English anti-religion campaigner
(1867-1955).
One of the giants of not only English Atheism, but
world Atheism, Joseph McCabe left a legacy of
aggressive Atheist and antireligious literature that
remains fresh and insightful today. His many works
-- he wrote nearly 250 books -- could constitute a
library of Atheism by themselves.
Born in 1867, Joseph McCabe became a Franciscan
monk at the age of nineteen. But disgusted with
his fellow monks and the Christian doctrine, he left
the priesthood for good on February 19, 1896.
Not long afterwards, he began to write -- first
against the priesthood itself and then for the
position of Atheism. He was one of the founding
members of Britain's Rationalist Press Association,
and was a prolific writer for Haldeman-Julius
Publications. He was also a much-respected
speaker, giving, by his own estimate, three or four
thousand lectures in the United States, Australia,
and Great Britain by the age of eighty. Still fighting
against the injustices and dishonesties of religion,
he died on January 10, 1955, at the age of eighty-
seven. The epitaph he requested was "He was a
rebel to his last day." [The Secular Web]
Anton Szandor LaVey, American (1930-1997?).
Here is some information about LaVey, provided
by Aaron Jacques:
LaVey Was most definitely an anti-christian, and
despite his recommendation of "using" various
gods, I am quite certain he was atheist. He formed
the Church of Satan, not only to frighten the
status quo, but more as an alternative to
secularism. He wrote that it was necessary for
man to have a fantasy element in his life. LaVey's
satanism provides this in the form of rich
ceremonies. The idea behind which is not that one
is praying to an actual being, but is unleashing
mental/emotional/physical energies which have
the power to alter the state of one's existence.
Most satanists don't believe in satan or any other
deity in a physical sense but more as a force of
nature. In the introduction to The Satanic Bible,
Burton H. Wolfe recalls a story told to him by
LaVey about his youth, when he worked in a
traveling carnival:
"On Saturday night, I would see men lusting after
half-naked girls dancing at the carnival, and on
Sunday morning when I was playing organ for tent-
show evangelists at the other end of the carnival
lot, I would see these same men sitting in the
pews with their wives and children, asking God to
forgive them and purge them of carnal desires.
And the next Saturday they'd be back at the
carnival or some other place of indulgence. I knew
then that the Christianchurch thrives on hypocrisy,
and that man's carnal nature will out no matter
how much it is purged or scoured by any white-
light religion"
However, some claim that The Church of Satan is
nothing more than a scam cooked up by an "old
carnie" to take people's money (there is a $100
membership fee). The Church of Satan web site.

And let us not forget the poor little witches of all

such a morbid mind-set in the first place? Because
it says in the Bible that witches exist and witches
should be killed ["Thou shalt not suffer a witch to
live!" - Exodus 22.18].
Here is a quote in that regard that was sent to me
by a friend.
"During many ages there were witches. The Bible
said so [Exodus 22:18]. The Bible commanded
that they should not be allowed to live. Therefore
the Church, after eight hundred years, gathered up
its halters, thumb-screws, and firebrands, and set
about its holy work in earnest. She worked hard at
it night and day during nine centuries and
imprisoned, tortured, hanged, and burned whole
hordes and armies of witches, and washed the
Christian world clean with their foul blood. Then it
was discovered that there was no such thing as
witches, and never had been. One does not know
whether to laugh or to cry." [Mark Twain, Poe

The Medieval Inquisition is a series of Inquisitions

(Roman Catholic Church bodies charged with
suppressing heresy) from around 1184, including
the Episcopal Inquisition (1184-1230s) and later
the Papal Inquisition (1230s). It was in response to
large popular movements throughout Europe
considered apostate or heretical to Christianity, in
particular Catharism and Waldensians in southern
France and northern Italy. These were the first
inquisition movements of many that would follow.
Torture was used after 1252. On May 15, Pope
Innocent IV issued a papal bull entitled Ad
exstirpanda, which authorized the use of torture
by inquisitors. The Inquisitors were forbidden to
use methods that resulted in bloodshed, mutilation
or death. One of the more common forms of
medieval inquisition torture was known as
strappado. The hands were bound behind the back
with a rope, and the accused was suspended this
way, dislocating the joints painfully in both arms.
Weights could be added to the legs dislocating
those joints as well.
The organization is still active today under the
name of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the
Faith. Prior to becoming Pope Benedict XVI,
Cardinal Ratzinger was the head of the
congregation.
Xavier called for an inquisition, recorded by
historians as being more horrendous and barbaric
than any prior to that. Thousands were tortured
mutilated and killed. Thousands had to flee Goa in
order to keep their traditional culture and religion.
!It is recorded that between 600 and 1,000 Hindu
temples and shrines were destroyed, but many
consider these numbers to be on the conservative
side. [29]
Torture In the Spanish Inquisition

The ostensible goal of the Inquisition, you'll recall,

was the discovery of false converts. In other
words, the Inquisition was trying to find out which
of the people whom they had forced under penalty
of death to convert to Christianity weren't really
Christians.
”Children were flogged and slowly dismembered in
front of their parents whose eyelids had been
sliced off to make sure they missed nothing.
Extremities were amputated carefully, so that a
person could remain conscious even when all that
remained was a torso and a head.”[30]

!
The archbishop of Evora, in Portugal, eventually
wrote, "If everywhere the Inquisition was an
infamous court, the infamy, however base,
however vile, however corrupt and determined by
worldly interests, it was never more so than in
Goa. [31]

This Latin term literally means, "Hammer Against
Evil". The word, "malleus" means hammer, while
"malefic" means "producing evil or disaster" and
"maleficence" means evil, harm, or mischief"
[Tormont Webster's Illustrated Encylcopedic
Dictionary, p. 1022-3].
"On December 5, 1484, ... Pope Innocent VIII,
issued a bull, in which he deplored the prevalence
of witches, and empowered two Domincan monks,
Heinrich Kraemer and Jacob Sprenger, to launch a
holy war against 'this satanic sect'. Kraemer and
Sprenger were ordered to give every assistance
by bishop, priest, and lay authority. As guidelines
for the monstrous pogrom of witches that was to
ensue, the two 'holy' brothers produced a primer,
The Malleus maleficorum which went into details
as gruesome as possible to enable dutiful
inquisitors to force confessions from a tortured
body. It became the standard manual for witch-
hunting and witch extermination." [Thomkins, The
Magic of Obelisks, p. 389-390]

The Roman Catholic Inquisition was one of the
greatest disasters ever to befall mankind. In the
name of Jesus Christ, Catholic priests mounted an
enormous effort to kill all "heretics" in Europe and
Britain. Heretics is defined whichever way Rome
wanted it defined; it ranged from people who
disagreed with official policy, to Hermetic
Philosophers [Black Magick Practitioners], to Jews,
to Witches, and to the Protestant reformers.

We have declined to put in most of the pictures
we have depicting women of this era being
sexually abused, and scorned during the time of
the Inquisition, simply because we do not want to
show sexual body parts on this website; however,
this picture does demonstrate the fact that
women were sexually abused during the Inquisition,
without being so visually graphic.
Here, you see a condemned woman, accused of
being a witch, stripped naked and forced to crawl
in front of the leering crowd to a crate where she
will be placed and then hung up off the ground for
all to see. Catholic priests believed that a witch
lost her powers when she was suspended off the
ground; therefore, when Soldiers of the Inquisition
arrested a woman accused of being a witch, they
would pull her physically off the ground and carry
her to the dungeon of confinement. This drawing
captures the essence of this ridiculous belief.

WOMEN FELT A SPECIAL FEAR OF THE

INQUISITION

If a woman was accused of being a witch, she was

in for very special torture from this sex-starved
clergy. As you will discover when you read "The
Malleus Maleficarium", women were specially
targeted for persecution as potential, or
suspected, witches. If a woman was merely thrown
off a high place, as we see here, she could count
herself fortunate to die a quick and relatively
painless death. As we shall demonstrate, a
demonic spirit of sexual obsession and deviant lust
blew through this entire Inquisition after the
introduction of "The Malleus Maleficarium"; Pope
Innocent III issued the Papal Bull on December 5,
1484, that established this document as the
standard by which the Inquisition was to be
conducted. Celibacy had been in existence at this
point for 361 years, enough time for priests to be
truly sexually deviant.
This sexual obsession quickly grew to the point
where a woman lived in fear that one day, out of
the blue, she would be accused by some nameless
wretch of being a witch; since accusation equaled
guilt, that woman could expect a slow, torturous
death at the hands of sexually deviant celibate
priests. This statement is historic fact, and we
shall prove it, through the official document of the
Roman Catholic "Holy" Inquisition, "The Malleus
Maleficarium".

When Puritans settled in Massachusetts in the

1600s, they created a religious police state where
doctrinal deviation could lead to flogging, pillorying,
hanging, cutting off ears, or boring through the
tongue with a hot iron. Preaching Quaker beliefs
was a capital offense. Four stubborn Quakers
defied this law and were hanged. In the 1690s fear
of witches seized the colony. Twenty alleged
witches were killed and 150 others imprisoned.
The most common means of torture included
burning, beating and suffocating, however the
techniques below are some of the more
extravagant and depraved methods used and
allowed by the Roman Catholic Church.
T///////////p===========================
=====lic Church.

One of the most heinous of all torture devices

used against women in the Inquisition were these
"Witch-prickers", pictured here. As you can see,
these are really knives. "The Malleus
Maleficarium" declared that witches have a
"Devil's Mark" somewhere on their body. This
required the priestly investigator to indulge
himself in carrying out closer scrutiny by stripping
the poor woman totally naked and giving her a
close inspection. This inspection was often carried
out amidst a crowd of men who were merely
acting as voyeurs, but ostensibly "forced" to
witness this "inspection" because of their religious
duty!
"To increase the number of hits [stab wounds],
the subtle notion was concocted that the devil's
mark left a spot insensible to pain, only discernible
by an inspector probing with a sharp prick [one of
these knives]. Thus was raised a whole guild of
'witch-prickers' paid only when they discovered a
witch, which in turn led to the 'foolproof' system of
using an auxiliary retractable prick. The official
'pricker', having painfully, and visibly, drawn blood
from several spots on a naked victim, would
painlessly plunge the substitute bodkin [knife] to
the hilt, astounding the crowd, and ensuring his fee
for a witch delivered to trial." [Thomkins, p. 391]
In other words, this retractable knife would not
penetrate the skin when it was forcefully thrust
upon the woman, but would retract into the handle
as it was designed to do. But, the crowd would not
know this, and would believe that the reason the
woman did not scream, and did not pour forth
blood even though she had just been stabbed, was
because she was a witch.
These "witch-prickers" looked for other "Devil's
Marks" on the woman's body as well.

As the Inquisition rolled along, another demonic

spirit swept through the Church and the people
carrying out the Inquisition. This spirit was a spirit
of absolute, diabolical hatred of mankind,
accompanied by a corresponding love of torture. If
you look closely, you can see some wealthy
people sitting on the other side of the plate glass
window, looking at this poor man being tortured,
as if they were watching an opera! Women as well
as men were watching this poor man slowly die as
he rotated on this very sharp point.
The man is suspended with these many ropes so
he can be rotated on that exceedingly sharp point
sticking into his anus. The pain was incalculable and
quickly unbearable. We have other pictures of
women being suspended on this same type of
sharp point, which is sticking into her female
organ!
In the Inquisition, pain inflicted on sexual organs
was very prevalent, another clear sign of the
sexual obsession brought on by the perversions of
celibacy. This type of sexual perversion has
occurred in every Mysteries Religions in all of
history: the Babylonian Satanic Mysteries, Egyptian
Mysteries, the Greek Mysteries, and the Mysteries
of Imperial Rome. Celibate Catholic priests were
just the latest to feel the scourge of sexual
perversion brought on by celibacy.

As
we stated earlier, accusation of a crime equaled
being guilty. No condemned person ever won their
case, ever beat the charge and walked free. You
can see this poor accused man before the priests
conducting the show trial. The crucifix to which the
friar is pointing is hanging to the right of the
accused, as these men thought their torturous
activities were really serving and advancing the
Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
Well did Jesus speak of these men when He said:
"... the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you
will think that he doeth God service." [John 16:2]
This prophecy describes the entire Roman Catholic
Inquisition perfectly! For 1,200 years, hundreds of
thousands of loyal Catholics tortured and
slaughtered tens of millions of "heretics", thinking
they were serving the Savior by obeying the cruel
dictates of the Pope. They really thought they
were "doing God a service".
Then, Jesus tells us why these men could do such
terrible things to believers in the name of God.
"And these things will they do unto you, because
they have not known the Father, nor me." [John
16:3]

After the slaughtering had begun, the Vatican

decided the effort was so worthwhile that it
needed to be systematic, not dependent totally
upon local Catholic leaders. At this time, the
Office of the Inquisition was established. Not
only did this office provide central leadership to
the slaughter, it was able to use the resources of
the Catholic Church to better train executioners
and, most importantly of all, to train carefully
chosen sadistic men how to be the best torturers
in the world.
While much of the killing was carried out in public,
the torturing to obtain "confessions" was
accomplished in secret rooms, usually in a dungeon
within a church, specifically designed for torture. In
this picture, we can see a man hanging by ropes
tied behind his back, while an Inquisition official
was preparing to torture a prisoner through the
use of a hot tong that he would soon shove up the
man's toenails. In the middle, a prisoner is on a
stretcher that is being pulled by ropes and pulleys
into a vertical hanging position, in which he would
remain for hours, and vulnerable to all sorts of
tortures through violence done to the ears, eyes,
nose, and mouth. From this position, as well as in
the hanging you see in the upper left, a person's
joints could easily be pulled out of joint, producing
excruciating pain.

"Catholic Mass for Protestants" -- Roman Catholic
Spiritual exercises for Protestants
If you think the Knee Splitter was murder on a
person's lower limbs, wait til you know what the
"Boots" were about. This horrible piece of
equipment was made up of wedges that fitted the
legs from ankles to knees. Pure pain ensues when
the torturer violently pounds the wedges with a
large, heavy hammer, a process that is done
repeatedly until flesh and bone are completely
destroyed, with some victims even gushing
marrow from their crushed legs.
This tool, which kinda reminds me of a holy water
sprinkler, was filled with either molten lead, tar,
boiling oil or boiling water, then used to bless, errr,
torture its victims by dripping its contents on their
stomach, back and other body parts. Sounds like
standard S&M practice to me, only with a greater
deal of pain.
Just as it says: it splits skulls. This one resembles
an angel's halo, but there's absolutely nothing
angelic or holy about it. Inside this halo are very
pointy spikes, which are driven into the side of the
victim's skull as the screws on the outside are
tightened. The skull splitting part comes when the
torturer either grabs the halo by its handles and
jerks the victim side to side or hoists him or her
into the air, by those very same handles. It
doesn't take a genius to figure out that the top of
the victim's skull is violently removed by the
aforementioned actions, and that brains tend to
spill out all over the place in the process.
A popular torture device during the Inquisition, the
knee splitter does what it says: split victims'
knees and render them useless. Built from two
spiked wood blocks, the knee splitter is placed on
top of and behind the knee of its victims. Two
large screws connecting the blocks are then
turned, causing the two blocks to close towards
each other and effectively destroy a victim's
knee.
Countless heretics and blasphemers had their
tongues roughly torn out with this simple device.
My, weren’t they the popular ones during those
times.
In this picture, you see a most common form of
torture. This poor man has been bound with a tight
broad cord around his neck and his waist, both of
which are fastened to a small board resembling a
door. Then, the man's feet have been placed in
stocks, with the soles facing a very hot bowl of
burning charcoal. This doomed man is going to be
tortured with fire to his feet while his neck is going
to be increasingly constricted by the band
attached to the door.
The terrified expression on his face tells the full
story, don't you think? Remember, in Witchcraft,
greater occult power flows to the perpetrators of
the Satanic sacrifice if the victim suffers horribly.
Thus, a witch sacrificing the victim will go to great
lengths to visit maximum pain to the victim as the
victim is slowing dying from torture. All this hatred
and all this planned torture makes a great deal of
sense once you understand this principle of
Witchcraft.

Black Magick practitioners will tell you that the

entire 1,200 year period of the Inquisition
represented the height of demonic infestation in
all of European history. The "Holy" Inquisition was
"collective demon possession", as you shall see
after examining the Catholic document which
undergirded the entire 1,200 years of murder.
Stay with us, so you shall know the truth.

The victim's nostrils were pinched shut, and eight
quarts of fluid were poured down the victim's
throat through a funnel. Other techniques included
forcing a cloth down the throat, while pouring
water, which made a swallowing reflex pushing it
further down into the stomach producing all the
agonies of suffocation by drowning until the victim
lost consciousness. Instead of water, the torture

cruelty and religion have gone hand-in-hand."

TORTURE ROOM
14. The Rack
It does exactly what it looks like it does: the rack
pulls your body from end to end until your limbs
are slowly plucked from their joints

==================================
==============================
The Stocks
The Stocks
With their feet in the stocks, two pieces of timber
clamped together, over and under, both across
each leg above the ankles. The soles of their feet
then having been greased with lard, a blazing
brazier was applied to them, and they were first
blistered and then fried. At intervals a board was
interposed between the fire and their feet and
removed once they disobeyed the command to
confess themselves of guilt for which they had
been charged.

The Breast Ripper

The name of this device speaks for itself. Women
condemned of heresy, blasphemy, adultery, and
witchcraft often felt the wrath of this device as it
violently tore a breast from their torso.
This device was highly put into service during the
massacre of the Danes.

The Wheel
The wheel was one of the most popular and
insidious methods of torture and execution
practiced. The giant spiked wheel was able to
break bodies as it rolled forward, causing the most
agonizing and drawn-out death. Other forms
include the "braided" wheel, where the victim
would be tied to the execution dock or platform.
Their limbs were spread and tied to stakes or iron
rings on the ground. Slices of wood were placed
under the main joints, wrists, ankles, knees, hips,
and elbows. The executioner would then smash
every joint with the iron-tyred edge of the wheel--
however the executioner would avoid fatal blows
to give the victim a painful death.
According to a German chronicler, the victim was
transformed into a huge screaming puppet writhing
in their own blood. It looked like a sea monster
with four tentacles, and raw slimy shapeless flesh,
mixed with splinters of bone. After the smashing
had taken place the victim would literally be
"braided" into the wheel and hung horizontally at
the top of the pole.
=====================================
===================
The Heretics Fork
This instrument consisted of two little forks one
set against the other, with the four prongs
plunged into the flesh, under the chin and above
the chest, with hands secured firmly behind their
backs. A small collar supported the instrument in
such a manner that the victims were usually
forced to hold their head erect, thus preventing
any movement.
The forks did not penetrate any vital points, and
thus suffering was prolonged and death was
always nearly avoided. The pointed prongs on
each end to crane the persons head made speech
or movement near impossible. The Heretics Fork
was very common during the height of the Spanish
Inquisition.

==================================
========
The Pear
The pear was a torture device used on females.
This device was inserted into the vagina, or mouth
of the victim and then expanded by force of the
screw to the maximum aperture setting of the
victims cavity. The antrum would then irremediably
become lacerated, nearly always fatally, ripping
the tissue, flesh and membranes.
This item became extensively applied throughout
the Spanish Inquisition to force confessions from
those accused of Witchcraft. The pointed prongs
at the end of the segments serve better to rip
into the throat, the intestines or the cervix. Many
paid dearly when the Pear was their fate.
=====================================
===================
16. Water Torture
This is the only non-medieval, European torture on
our list. The water torture was a favorite among
Japanese POW guards during WWII. The victim was
first bound with barbed wire and his mouth stuffed
with rags. Next, the guards would snake a tube
down the victim's nasal passage and bloat his belly
with water. Once that was finished, the guards
would kick and beat the poor sap's midsection until
his stomach lining burst and and death ensued.
17. The Boots
The victim's legs were placed between two planks
of wood and bound together with cords. Between
the cords the torturers placed wedges with which
they would violently hammer. Each time a wedge
was hammered, an acute portion of the shin bone
was shattered. The tormentors could hammer at
least a dozen wedges up and down the legs. When
the Boots were removed, the bone fragments fell
to pieces and the skin of the lower legs merely
served as loose sacks for them.

18. Dunking Stool

Used primarily on women (as was the case for
most devices of pseudo-sexual torture), the
dunking stool would dip its occupant into a river
for as long as the authorities saw fit.
20. Punishing Shoes
The shoes were often used in conjunction with the
standing pillory (a device that holds your head and
wrists in place while you stand). How long do you
think you could stand on your tippy-toes before
you had to rest your heels on those iron spikes?

8. Burning at the Stake

A favorite execution for those accused of
witchcaft. Clergy believed that the burning of a
witch permanently removed her evil spirits from
the physical world, thus eliminating the possibility
of any further contamination of innocent souls.
Makes sense.
10. The Hanging Cage
The pictured victim is one of the lucky ones
because most occupants were caged completely
naked to expose them to either extreme cold or
hot weather conditions. And... most caged
prisoners were usually placed in there only after
other means of extreme physical torture were
administered. But wait -- there's more! The victims
were left in the cage until they died from either
the elements or thirst, which could take weeks.
6. The Cradle
The Cradle is the nastier second cousin to the
Judas Cradle. We believe the picture does all the
explaining for us.

=====================================
=====================
11. Cleansing the Soul
In many Catholic countries, the clergy believed
that the corrupted soul of a damned person could
be cleansed if they were forced to consume
boiling water, burning coals, or both. Of course,
this was what happened to prisoners before they
were punished for their crime -- sort of a "warm-
up" torture, if you will.
=====================================
=====================
7. Judas Cradle
The victim was hoisted above the pyramid and
slowly lowered, crotch first, onto its sharpened
pinnacle. Hinging on the torturers mood, he could
vary the amount of the victim's body weight
applied to the point.
=====================================
=====================
13. Quartering by Horses
Quartering is the rack taken to the next level and
was reserved only for murderers and those who
killed or attempted to take the life of a nobleman
or royalty. Each of the prisoner's limbs were tied
to a horse and the horses were whipped
simultaneously so that each limb would erupt from
the body in an instant. A crowd favorite.
2. The Saw
The saw may represent human ingenuity's darkest
hour. The idea here is that when the victim is
suspended upside down, most of the blood will go
to the head. That is an important part of the
process, you see, because as the torturers saw
into the victim's crotch, all of the blood in the head
will oxygenate the brain so that the victim will not
pass out as one normally would under such
excruciating pain. Typically, the saw would reach
the victim's navel before unconsciousness would
take hold -- sometimes as far as the midriff.

=====================================
===================

3. Impalement
This was the standard form of punishment for
traitors in Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli and Salee during
the Middle Ages. Believe it or not, once the
lengthy spike entered the victim's posterior and
exited their mouth or throat, the victim might live
for more than a day in this state and was left to
crawl in the dirt for all to water.

=======================================
==================

4. Interrogation Chair
Not only were the hundreds of tiny spikes
uncomfortable to sit on, but a fire was usually
kindled under the iron chair to make it reach a
horrible scalding point.
=====================================
===================
5. Iron Maiden
The following is a depiction of the first recorded
use of the Iron Maiden on August 14, 1515 : "A
forger of coins was placed inside, and the doors
shut slowly, so that the very sharp points
penetrated his arms and legs in several places, and
his belly and chest, and his bladder and the root of
his member, and his eyes, and his shoulders, and
his buttocks, but not enough to kill him; and so, he
remained making great cry and lament for two
days, after which he died
COLUMBUS & THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS

Christopher ColumbusChristopher Columbus, a

trader of African slaves, is best known as the ‘so-
called’ discoverer of America. In his personal log,
Columbus wrote that, his purpose in seeking
undiscovered worlds was “to bring the Gospel of
Jesus Christ to the heathens.” [Columbus' Book of
Prophecies]

On his first voyage Columbus described the

natives as follows:
"The people of this island and of all other islands
which I have found and seen, ... all ... are so artless
and free with all they possess, that no one would
believe it without having seen it. Of anything they
have, if you ask them for it, they never say no;
rather they invite the person to share it, and show
as much love as if they were giving their hearts..."
But Colombus' mission was to take the land for
Christendom and convert all these peoples to
Christianity or exterminate them and replace their
culture, hence:

In whichever island he touched (on his second

voyage) his men killed indiscriminately whatever
animals and natives they found, "looting and
destroying all they found," as Columbus' son
Fernando put it. The natives were either killed or
enslaved. Columbus commented in this regard,
that the natives "ought to be good servants... and
would easily be made Christians,” because he saw
his affairs as the "fulfillment of prophecies in
Isaiah." To any objections from the natives,
Columbus responded with, "…with the help of God,
we shall … make war against you in all ways and
manners that we can, and shall subject you to the
yoke and obedience of the Church and of Their
Highness. We shall take you and your wives and
your children, and shall make slaves of them." [7]

Eyewitnesses recalled, "Once the Indians were in

the woods, the next step was to form squadrons
and pursue them, and whenever the Spaniards
found them, they pitilessly slaughtered everyone
like sheep... So they would cut an Indian's hands
and leave them dangling... Some Christians
encounter an Indian women, and since the dog they
had with them was hungry, they tore the child from
the mother's arms and flung it still living to the
dog..." After all, the Indians were only infidels.”

Of Columbus’ second voyage, it has been further

written: “The Spaniards found pleasure in inventing
all kinds of odd cruelties… They built a long gibbet,
long enough for the toes to touch the ground to
prevent strangling, and hanged thirteen [natives]
at a time in honor of Christ Our Savior and the
twelve apostles… then, straw was wrapped around
their torn bodies and they were burned alive.” [8]

In less than a decade after Columbus' first landing

the native population of the island of Hispaniola
(Santo Domingo & Haiti)— and thousands and
thousands of people — had dropped by a third to a
half. Before the next century ended, the
populations of Cuba and many other Caribbean
islands had been virtually exterminated.
A River of Blood

And Yield They Did.

In 1122 Christian crusaders swept over Jerusalem

and slaughtered men, women and children, 'until
their horses were knee deep in blood. We then
went to the church to thank the Lord for his
mercy.'

In 777 , Charlemagne, a devout Christian, after

conquering the Saxon rebels, gave them a choice
between baptism and execution. When they
refused to convert, he had 4500 of them
beheaded in one morning.

In the fourth century, Emporor Constantine, the

first Roman Emperor to become a Christian, had
over 3000 Christians executed because their
interpretation of the Bible did not agree with his.
That is more than the number of Christians who
died at the hands of the Romans during the well
known 1st century "Christians to the lions"
persecutions.

The above are from William Manchester's "A World

Lit Only by Fire- The Medieval Mind and The
Renaissance"..Little, Brown & Company, 1992

Queen Isabella, famous for sending Columbus to

the New World in 1492, was well known also for
her 'Spanish Inquisition', the gruesome torture and
murder of tens of thousands of Spanish Jews,
Muslims, homosexuals, people who read or wrote,
uppity women, and anyone else not up to the
Queen's strict standards. Isabella was a champion
of the faith, piously congratulating herself as her
victims writhed to their deaths in the flames and
the many other ingenious methods of torture
invented by her inquisitors.

CHRISTIAN PERSECUTIONS AGAINST THE HELLENES
Summarised from Vlassis Rassias' book "Es Edaphos
Pherein" (Greek), Athens 2000 (2nd edition),
Anoichti Poli Editions, ISBN 960-7748-20-4(All dates
"era vulgaris" = Christian Era) 314 Immediately
after its full legalisation, the Christian Church attacks
the Gentiles: The Council of Ancyra denounces the
worship of the Goddess Artemis. 324 Emperor
Constantine declares Christianity the only official
religion of the Roman Empire. At Dydima, Asia Minor,
he sacks the Oracle of God Apollo and tortures its
Pagan priests to death. He evicts the Gentiles from
Mt. Athos and destroys all local Hellenic Temples.
326 Emperor Constantine, following the instructions
of his mother Helen, destroys the Temple of the God
Asclepius in Aigeai of Cilicia and many Temples of
the Goddess Aphrodite in Jerusalem, Aphaca,
Mambre, Phoenice, Baalbek, etc. 330 Constantine
steals the treasures and statues of the Pagan
Temples in Greece to decorate Nova Roma
(Constantinople), the new capital of his Empire. 335
Constantine sacks many Pagan Temples of Asia
Minor and Palestine and orders the execution by
crucifixion of “all magicians and soothsayers".
Martyrdom of the neoplatonist philosopher Sopatros.
341 Emperor Constas, son of Constantinus,
persecutes "all the soothsayers and the Hellenists".
Many Gentile Hellenes are either imprisoned or
executed. 346 New large-scale persecutions of the
Gentiles in Constantinople. Banishment of the famous
orator Libanius, who is accused of being a "magician".
353 An edict of Constantius decrees the death
penalty for all forms of worship involving sacrifice
and "idols". 354 A new edict of Constantius orders
the closing of all Pagan Temples. Some of them are
profaned and turned into brothels or gambling rooms.
Executions of Pagan priests. The first burning of
libraries in various cities of the Empire. The first lime
factories are built next to closed Pagan Temples. A
large part of Sacred Gentile architecture is turned
into lime. 356 A new edict of Constantius orders
the destruction of the Pagan Temples and the
execution of all "idolaters". 357 Constantius
outlaws all methods of Divination (Astrology not
excluded). 359 In Skythopolis, Syria, christians
organise the first death camps for the torture and
execution of arrested Gentiles from all around the
Empire. 361 to 363 Religious tolerance and
restoration of Pagan cults declared in Constantinople
(11th December 361) by the Pagan Emperor Flavius
Claudius Julianus. 363 Assassination of Emperor
Julianus (26th June). 364 Emperor Flavius Jovianus
orders the burning of the Library of Antioch. An
Imperial edict (11th September) orders the death
penalty for all Gentiles that worship their ancestral
Gods or practice Divination (“sileat omnibus
perpetuo divinandi uriositas”). Three different edicts
(4th February, 9th September, 23rd December)
order the confiscation of all properties of Pagan
Temples and the death penalty for participation in
Pagan rituals, including private ones. 365 An
Imperial edict (17th November) forbids Gentile
officers of the army to command christian soldiers.
370 Emperor Valens orders a tremendous
persecution of Gentiles throughout the Eastern
Empire. In Antioch, among many other Pagans, the
ex-governor Fidustius and the priests Hilarius and
Patricius are executed. Tons of books are burnt in
the city-squares of the Eastern Empire. All friends of
Julianus are persecuted (Orebasius, Sallustius,
Pegasius etc.), the philosopher Simonides is burned
alive and the philosopher Maximus is decapitated.
372 Emperor Valens orders the governor of Asia
Minor to exterminate the Hellenes and destroy all
writings of their wisdom. 373 New prohibition of all
methods of Divination. The term "Pagan" (pagani,
villagers) is introduced by the christians to lessen
the Gentiles. 375 The Temple of the God Asclepius
in Epidaurus, Greece, is closed down. 380 On the
27th February, Christianity becomes the exclusive
religion of the Roman Empire by an edict of Emperor
Flavius Theodosius, requiring that "all the various
nations, which are subject to our clemency and
moderation should continue in the profession of that
religion, which was delivered to the Romans by the
divine Apostle Peter". Non-christians are called
"loathsome, heretics, stupid and blind". In another
edict Theodosius calls "insane" those that do not
believe in the christian god and outlaws all
disagreements with Church dogma. Ambrosius,
bishop of Milan, starts destroying all the Pagan
Temples of his area. Christian priests lead the mob
against the Temple of the Goddess Demeter in
Eleusis and try to lynch the hierophants Nestorius
and Priskus. The 95 year-old hierophant Nestorius,
ends the Eleusinian Mysteries and announces the
predominance of mental darkness over the human
race. 381 On May the 2nd, Theodosius deprives
christians that return to the Pagan Religion of all their
rights. Throughout the Eastern Empire, Pagan
Temples and Libraries are looted or burned down. On
21st December, Theodosius outlaws even simple
visits to the Temples of the Hellenes. In
Constantinople, the Temple of the Goddess
Aphrodite is turned into a brothel and the Temples
of Sun and Artemis into stables. 382 "Hellelu-jah"
(Glory to Yahweh) is imposed in the christian mass.
384 Emperor Theodosius orders the Praetorian
Prefect, Maternus Cynegius (a dedicated christian),
to cooperate with the local bishops and destroy the
Temples of the Gentiles in Northern Greece and Asia
Minor. 385 to 388 Maternus Cynegius, encouraged
by his fanatic wife, and his bishop "Saint" Marcellus,
scour the countryside with their gangs, sack and
destroy hundreds of Hellenic Temples, shrines and
altars. Amongst others they destroy the Temple of
Edessa, the Cabeireion of Imbros, the Temple of
Zeus in Apamea, the Temple of Apollo in Dydima and
all the Temples of Palmyra. Thousands of innocent
Gentiles from all sides of the Empire suffer
martyrdom in the notorious death camps of
Skythopolis. 386 Emperor Theodosius outlaws
(16th June) the care of sacked Pagan Temples. 388
Public talks on religious subjects are also outlawed
by Theodosius. The old orator Libanius sends his
famous Epistle "Pro Templis" to Theodosius, with a
hope that the few remaining Hellenic Temples will be
respected and spared. 389 to 390 All non-christian
calenders are outlawed. Hordes of fanatic hermits
from the desert flood into Middle Eastern and
Egyptian cities, destroying statues, altars, Libraries
and Pagan Temples, whilst Gentiles are lynched.
Theophilus, Patriarch of Alexandria, starts heavy
persecutions against the Gentiles, turns the Temple
of Dionysos into a church, burns down the Mithraeum
of the city, destroys the Temple of Zeus and
burlesques the Pagan priests before they are killed
by stoning. The christian mob profanes the cult
images. 391 On 24th February, a new edict of
Theodosius prohibits not only visits to Pagan
Temples but also looking at vandalised statues. New
heavy persecutions all around the Empire. In
Alexandria, Egypt, the Gentiles, led by the
philosopher Olympius, revolt and after some street
fights, finally lock themselves inside the fortified
Temple of the God Serapis (The Serapeion). After a
violent siege, the christians occupy the building,
demolish it, burn its famous Library and profane the
cult images. 392 On 8th November, the Emperor
Theodosius outlaws all non-christian rituals and
names them "superstitions of the Gentiles"
(“gentilicia superstitio”). New full scale persecutions
against the Gentiles. The Mysteries of Samothrace
are ended and priests slaughtered. In Cyprus the
local bishop, "Saints" Epiphanius and Tychon destroy
almost all the Temples of the island and exterminate
thousands of Gentiles. The local Mysteries of
Goddess Aphrodite are ended. Theodosius' edict
declares: "the ones that won't obey pater Epiphanius
have no right to keep living on the island". The
Gentiles revolt against the Emperor and the Church in
Petra, Aeropolis, Rafia, Gaza, Baalbek and other cities
of the Middle East. 393 The Pythian, Aktia and
Olympic Games are outlawed as part of the Hellenic
"idolatry". Christians sack the Temples of Olympia.
395 Two new edicts (22nd July and 7th August)
lead to new persecutions against the Gentiles.
Rufinus, the eunuch Prime Minister of Emperor Flavius
Arcadius directs the hordes of the baptised Goths
(led by Alaric) to the country of the Hellenes.
Encouraged by christian monks, the barbarians sack
and burn many cities (Dion, Delphi, Megara, Corinth,
Pheneos, Argos, Nemea, Lycosoura, Sparta,
Messene, Phigaleia, Olympia, etc.), slaughter or
enslave innumerable Hellenes and burn the Temples.
Among others, they burn down the Eleusinian
Sanctuary and burn alive all of its priests (including
the hierophant of Mithras Hilarius). 396 On 7th
December, a new edict by Emperor Arcadius orders
that Paganism be treated as high treason.
Imprisonment of the few remaining Pagan priests
and hierophants. 397 "Demolish them!" Emperor
Flavius Arcadius orders all the still erect Pagan
Temples demolished. 398 The Fourth Church
Council of Carthage prohibits to all, including its
bishops, the study of Gentile books. Porphyrius,
bishop of Gaza, demolishes almost all the Pagan
Temples of his city (except nine of them that remain
active). 399 With a new edict (13th July) Emperor
Flavius Arcadius orders all remaining Temples, mainly
in the countryside, to be immediately demolished:
«Si qua in agris templa sunt, sine turba ac tumultu
diruantur. His enim deiectis atque sublatis omnis
superstitioni materia consumetur» 400 Bishop
Nicetas destroys the Oracle of God Dionysus in
Vesai and baptises all the Gentiles of this area. 401
The christian mob of Carthage lynches Gentiles and
destroys Temples and "idols". In Gaza too, the local
bishop, also a..,"Saint", Porphyrius sends his followers
to lynch Gentiles and demolish the remaining nine still
active Temples of the city. The 15th Council of
Chalkedon orders all christians that still keep good
relations with their gentile relatives to be
excommunicated (even after their death). 405
John Chrysostom sends his hordes of gray-clad
monks armed with clubs and iron bars to destroy the
"idols" in all the cities of Palestine. 406 John
Chrysostom collects funds from rich christian women
to financially support the demolition of the Hellenic
Temples. In Ephessus, he orders the destruction of
the famous Temple of Goddess Artemis. In Salamis,
Cyprus, "Saints" Epiphanius and Eutychius continue
persecutions of the Gentiles and the total
destruction of their Temples and sanctuaries. 407
A new edict outlaws once more all non-christian acts
of worship. 408 The Emperor of the Western
Empire Honorius and the Emperor of the Eastern
Empire Arcadius, order together that all sculptures of
the Pagan Temples be either destroyed or
confiscated. Private ownership of Pagan sculpture is
also outlawed. The local bishops lead new heavy
persecutions against Gentiles and new book burning.
Judges showing pity for Gentiles are also
persecuted. 409 Once again, an edict orders
Astrology and all methods of Divination to be
punishable by death. 415 In Alexandria, Egypt, the
mob urged by the bishop Cyrillus, attacks a few days
before the judaeo-christian Pascha (Pesach-Easter)
and hacks to pieces the famous and beautiful
philosopher Hypatia. Pieces of her body are paraded
by the christian mob through the streets of
Alexandria, and are finally burned together with her
books in a place called Cynaron. On 30th August,
new persecutions start against all the Pagan priests
of North Africa, who end their lives either crucified or
burned alive. 416 The inquisitor Hypatius, alias "The
Sword of God", exterminates the last Gentiles of
Bithynia. In Constantinople (7th December), all non-
christian army officers, public employees and judges
are dismissed. 423 Emperor Theodosius II, declares
(8th June) that the Religion of the Gentiles is nothing
more than "demon worship" and orders all those who
persist in practicing it to be punished by
imprisonment and tortured. 429 The Temple of
Goddess Athena (Parthenon) on the Acropolis of
Athens is sacked. Athenian Pagans are persecuted.
435 On 14th November, a new edict by Theodosius
II orders the death penalty for all "heretics" and
“pagans” of the Empire. Only Judaism is considered a
legal non-christian Religion. 438 Theodosius II issues
an new edict (31st January) against the Gentiles,
incriminating their "idolatry" as the reason for a
recent plague! 440 to 450 The christians demolish
all the monuments, altars and Temples of Athens,
Olympia, and other Greek cities. 448 Theodosius II
orders all non-christian books burned. 450 All the
Temples of Aphrodisias (City of Goddess Aphrodite)
are demolished and its Libraries burned down. The
city is renamed Stauroupolis (City of the Cross).
451 A new edict by Theodosius II (4th November)
emphasises that "idolatry" is to be punished by
death. 457 to 491 Sporadic persecutions against
Gentiles of the Eastern Empire. Among others, the
physician Jacobus and the philosopher Gessius are
executed. Severianus, Herestios, Zosimus, Isidorus
and others are tortured and imprisoned. The
proselytiser Conon and his followers exterminate the
last Gentiles of the island of Imbros, in the northeast
Aegean. The last worshippers of Lavranius Zeus are
exterminated in Cyprus. 482 to 488 The majority
of the Gentiles of Asia Minor are exterminated, after
a desperate revolt against the Emperor and the
Church. 486 More "underground" Pagan priests are
discovered, arrested, burlesqued, tortured and
executed in Alexandria, Egypt. 515 Baptism
becomes obligatory, even for those that already say
they are christian. The Emperor of Constantinople,
Anastasius orders the massacre of the Gentiles in
the Arabian city Zoara and the demolition of the
Temple of local God Theandrites. 528 Emperor
Jutprada (Justinianus) outlaws the "alternative"
Olympian Games of Antioch. He also orders the
execution (by fire, crucifixion, tearing to pieces by
wild beasts, or cutting by iron nails) of all who
practice "sorcery, divination, magic or idolatry" and
prohibits all teachings by the Gentiles ("..the ones
suffering from the blasphemous insanity of the
Hellenes"). 529 Emperor Justinianus outlaws the
Athenian Philosophical Academy, which has its
property confiscated. 532 The inquisitor Ioannis
Asiacus, a fanatical monk, leads a crusade against
the Gentiles of Asia Minor. 542 Emperor Justinianus
allows the inquisitor Ioannis Asiacus to convert the
Gentiles of Phrygia, Caria and Lydia in Asia Minor.
Within 35 years of this crusade, 99 churches and 12
monasteries are built on the sites of demolished
Pagan Temples. 546 Hundreds of Gentiles are put
to death in Constantinople by the inquisitor Ioannis
Asiacus. 556 Justinianus orders the notorious
inquisitor Amantius to go to Antioch, to find, arrest,
torture and exterminate the last Gentiles of the city
and burn all the private libraries down. 562 Mass
arrests, burlesquing, tortures, imprisonments and
executions of Gentile Hellenes in Athens, Antioch,
Palmyra and Constantinople. 578 to 582 Christians
torture and crucify Gentile Hellenes all around the
Eastern Empire, and exterminate the last Gentiles of
Heliopolis (Baalbek). 580 Christian inquisitors attack
a secret Temple of Zeus in Antioch. The priest
commits suicide, but the other Gentiles are arrested.
All the prisoners, the Vice Governor Anatolius
included, are tortured and sent to Constantinople to
face trial. Sentenced to death they are thrown to the
lions. The wild animals are unwilling to tear them to
pieces and they end up crucified. Their corpses are
dragged through the streets by the christian mob
and afterwards thrown unburied in the city dump.
583 New persecutions against the Gentile Hellenes
by the Emperor Mauricius. 590 Throughout the
Eastern Empire, christian accusers "discover" Pagan
conspiracies. A new wave of torture and executions
erupts. 692 The "Penthekte" Council of
Constantinople prohibits the remains of Calends,
Brumalia, Anthesteria, and other Pagan / Dionysian
festivals. 804 The Gentile Hellenes of Laconia,
Greece, resist successfully the attempt of Tarasius,
Patriarch of Constantinople, to convert them to
Christianity. 950 to 988 Violent conversion of the
last Gentile Hellenes of Laconia by the Armenian
"Saint" Nikon.

WITCH BURNINGS

Witch BurningOf course we have all heard of the

Salem Witch Hunts of 1691-1692 and the burning of
a number of "witches" alive at the stake by the
Puritans. But did you know that the Salem witches
were all proven innocent? Of course, this was found
out after they were burned. Did you also know that
this witch burning, carried out all over the world to
the tune of several hundred thousand dead (80%
women), was initiated by the Catholic church to rid
their dominion of so-called heretics and was directly
related to their mandate to re-populate Europe after
the Black Death or plagues of the 1300's, because
their serfs were decreased by one third, thereby
reducing the Church's profit by one third, since they
owned about 30% of Europe's lands.[5] The ladies
(midwives) were accused of impeding the birth rate
— all birth control knowledge was vigorously erased,
so much so that 20th century scholars believed birth
control was a modern invention. The Inquisitors
wrote, "No one is more dangerous and harmful to the
Catholic faith than the midwives."

CRUSADES

Holy CrusadesMany people think that the crusades

were holy wars to liberate holy lands from non-
Christians. But few are informed that many of the
crusades were against other Christian sects, that
many of these Crusades were launched for other
purposes, such as the drowning of almost 6,000
Protestants by Spanish Catholic troops in the
Netherlands in 1568, the sacking of the German city
of Magdeburg in the 17th century, slaying 30,000
Protestants, followed by a 30 year war between
Catholics and Protestants in which more than 40% of
the population (mostly Germans) were decimated.
Probably the most revealing event was the capture
and pillage of the Orthodox Christian bastion of
Constantinople by the members of the Fourth
Crusade in 1204, creating an animosity between
Catholics and Orthodox Christians which has lasted
into the 20th century.

CONCLUSION

Christians have always portrayed non-Christian

civilizations as backwards, underdeveloped,
superstitious, and barbaric. What really underlies all
of their criticism is that these cultures do not accept
Jesus, the Bible and their western way of life. This is
what, in the Christians’ opinion, deems these cultures
as needing their help, when in fact the their fervor to
destroy any theistic conception other than
Christianity or any temple other than a church shows
that they are really the ones who are showing the
qualities of barbarians.
Pope John Paul IIIToday, many are uninformed and
believe that mission excesses only took place in
prior times and today's preaching works are a 'good
thing.' But as long as the basic premises and
theology that underly all the abuses that took place
in the past are not corrected, the result of mission
activities will remain the same: Genocide and
destruction of all that lies in its way, replacing it with
the 'superior religion and culture' that most
missionaries believe they are delivering.

In retrospect, these various ethnic cultures were far

better off before the introduction of Christianity, as
it had nothing better to offer them. In reality, these
cultures were decimated, their histories were
erased, their cultural traditions eradicated, their
former religions destroyed and they were left more
unhappy than before the arrival of Christianity.

There have been many revisions in the teachings of

Jesus Christ since it first took hold some 2,000
years ago. But until the xenophobic and iconoclastic
teachings of the Bible are corrected, mission activity
will yield the same catastrophic results. As taught in
the Bible, 'we can know a tree by its fruit,' these
evangelists need to adopt a more pluralistic
theology, recognizing the divinity in other religions
and the contributions of other cultures and further
recognize that theirs is not the only path to
salvation. Suffice it to say, until these things have
been corrected, that to label such endeavors for
Christ as good works or pious activity is wrong.

Otherwise, in this modern age, those deemed with

good intelligence, who are advanced in philosophy
and science, have no other choice than to condemn
these preaching activities worldwide, which seek to
destroy ethnic cultures. Mission activities need to be
monitored and the conversion agenda needs to be
reconsidered.

expands further, "These were not offhand remarks,
for five years later, in 1812, Jefferson again

still, he added that the American government had no

The Aztecs began their elaborate theocracy in the

1300s and brought human sacrifice to a golden era.
About 20,000 people were killed yearly to appease
gods — especially the sun god, who needed daily
“nourishment” of blood. Hearts of sacrifice victims
were cut out, and some bodies were eaten
ceremoniously. Other victims were drowned,
beheaded, burned or dropped from heights. In a rite
to the rain god, shrieking children were killed at
several sites so that their tears might induce rain. In
a rite to the maize goddess, a virgin danced for 24
hours, then was killed and skinned; her skin was worn
by a priest in further dancing. One account says that
at King Ahuitzotl’s coronation, 80,000 prisoners
were butchered to please the gods.

Islamic jihads (holy wars), mandated by the Koran,

killed millions over 12 centuries. In early years,
Muslim armies spread the faith rapidly: east to India
and west to Morocco. Then splintering sects branded
other Muslims as infidels and declared jihads against
them. The Kharijis battled Sunni rulers. The Azariqis
decreed death to all “sinners” and their families. In
1804 a Sudanese holy man, Usman dan Fodio, waged
a bloody jihad that broke the religious sway of the
Sultan of Gobir. In the 1850s another Sudanese
mystic, ‘Umar al-Hajj, led a barbaric jihad to convert
pagan African tribes.
=======================================

Ah yes, the rapture. The time when all righteous religious people
will ascend to the heavens. This is a good thing, with them gone
those of us left behind can build a new world. A world ruled by
wisdom and justice, no longer a brainwashed public driven by
religious fanatics screaming political dogma from the pulpits of hell.
The awsome power of the church and the mighty arm of the hated
‘Inquisition’ will never be allowed to reign on earth ever again.
Never again shall mankind walk in fear of retribution from an
invisible god that delights in torture, shame, degradation and
death. Let those in the rapture ascend and be slaves to their holy
tyrant forever. Some of us will survive and we will rebuild, a new
world that will be a proud and shining jewel in the cosmos.

[three years old], it is as if one puts the finger into the eye; but
when a small boy has intercourse with a grown-up woman he
makes her as 'a girl who is injured by a piece of wood.'...
!
Kethuboth 11b
[This debate concerns whether or not someone is a virgin.
Virginity is prized above all, such that it is believed that a girl
under the age of three will regain her virginity, even if a man has
had intercourse with her. (Fn. 7 says, in regard to putting "the
finger into the eye": "I.e., tears come to the eye again and again,
so does virginity come back to the little girl under three years.")
Since virginity is prized above all, one could assume that this
conclusion has allowed grown men to have sex with little girls
with immunity. A grown-up woman is not deflowered by having
sex with a small boy, however, since he is only like a "piece of
wood."]
!
It was taught: R. Judah used to say, A man is bound to say the
following three blessings daily: "[Blessed art thou...] who hast
not made me a heathen," ".... who hast not made me a woman";
and "... who hast not made me a brutish man." R. Aha b. Jacob
once overhead his son saying "[Blessed art thou...] who hast not
made me a brutish man," whereupon he said to him, "And this
too!" Said the other, "Then what blessing should I say instead?"
[He replied,]...h who hast not made me a slave." And is not that
the same as a woman? - a slave is more contemptible.
!
Menachoth 43b-44a
[A "prayer" or "benediction" to be said by a Jewish man every
day: "Thank God for not making me a Gentile, a woman or a
slave."]
!
Do not save Goyim in danger of death.
!
Show no mercy to the Goyim.
!
Hilkkoth Akum X1
!
A Jew is forbidden to drink from a glass of wine which a Gentile
has touched, because the touch has made the wine unclean.
!
Schulchan Aruch, Johre Deah, 122
!
And he who desires that none of his vows made during the year
shall be valid, let him stand at the beginning of the year and
declare, 'Every vow which I may make in the future shall be
null.1 [HIS VOWS ARE THEN INVALID,] PROVIDING
THAT HE REMEMBERS THIS AT THE TIME OF THE
VOW.
!
Nedarim 23b
[Essentially the "Kol Nidre" prayer said every year at Yom
Kippur. Fn. 1 says: "This may have provided a support for the
custom of reciting Kol Nidre (a formula for dispensation of
vows) prior to the Evening Service of the Day of Atonement
(Ran.). The context makes it perfectly obvious that only vows,
where the maker abjures benefit from aught, or imposes an
interdict of his own property upon his neighbour, are referred to.
Though the beginning of the year (New Year) is mentioned here,
the Day of Atonement was probably chosen on account of its
great solemnity. But Kol Nidre as part of the ritual is later than
the Talmud, and, as seen from the following statement about R.
Huna h. Hinena, the law of revocation in advance was not made
public."]

The recent arrest and indictment of several—19 according to one

source—members of Orthodox Jewish communities in New York
and New Jersey on racketeering, money-laundering and organ-
smuggling charges reminds us that this is not the first time
Orthodox Jews have allegedly engaged in financial and other
crimes.
In 2007, the Grand Rabbi of the Spinka sect of Orthodox Judaism,
also located in New York, was indicted on tax fraud and money
laundering, along with "several other defendants and five Spinka
charities," according to the Los Angeles Times. In March 2009, one
of the co-conspirators in that case, Rabbi Moshe Zigelman, was
sentenced to 24 months in prison for these crimes. Unfortunately,
the list goes on, with rampant sexual abuse charges as well within
these tight-knit communities.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews in New York

The resentment within the Orthodox Jewish community itself
concerning such activities is clear from the resultant commentary
by one of their own in an "Open Letter to the Money-Grubbing
Jews" by Ben Sales, published in the National Jewish Student
Magazine:
"Because you make me look bad, me and everyone else who
wears a kippah, a long skirt and long sleeves, a black hat, a t-shirt
with Hebrew writing on it, a necklace with a silver chai. Every kid
who goes to Jewish school and Jewish camp, every college
student who attends Hillel, every Zionist and post-Zionist,
Conservative, Orthodox, Reconstructionist, Reform, Sephardi,
Ashkenazi, Hasidic, secular must now bear the brunt of those who
read of your exploits and think: there’s another Shylock, another
Madoff, another Jew for whom the bottom line is more important
than his own community."
Sales adds, "This concept, as I would think you know, is called a
chillul hashem, a desecration of God’s name."
The "Good Book?"

A Scroll of the Torah/Pentateuch

This seemingly pervasive problem of "desecrating God's name" may
lie not necessarily in the apparent corruptability of so many
individual rabbis and other members of the Orthodox Jewish
community but within the very scriptures themselves that create
such religions, sects and cults.! In this regard, it is clear from
biblical traditions and dictates that "chosen people" are to be
rewarded by God for their piety by being given the booty of "the
nations," i.e., non-Jewish lands. Consider the following scriptures
from the Old Testament! part of the Bible, called in Judaism the
"Tanakh"—which, as in Christianity, is considered by Orthodox
Jews to be "God's Word":
For you are a people holy to the LORD your God; the LORD your
God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, out of
all the peoples that are on the face of the earth." (Deuteronomy
7:6)
When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of
peace to it. And if its answer to you is peace and it opens to you,
then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for
you and shall serve you. But if it makes no peace with you, but
makes war against you, then you shall besiege it; and when the
LORD your God gives it into your hand you shall put all its males to
the sword, but the women and the little ones, the cattle, and
everything else in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as booty for
yourseves; and you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which
the LORD your God has given you. Thus you shall do to all the
cities which are very far from you, which are not cities of the
nations here. But in the cities of these peoples that the LORD your
God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save nothing that
breathes..." (Deuteronomy 20:10-16)
He [the Jew] should not press his fellow [Jew] for payment ...the
foreigner [Gentile] you may press for payment."! (Deuteronomy
15: 2-3)
You must not make your brother pay interest, interest on money,
interest on food, interest on anything on which one may claim
interest. You may make a foreigner [Gentile] pay interest but your
brother [fellow Jew] you must not make pay interest."
(Deuteronomy 23: 19-20)
Foreigners (Gentiles) shall rebuild your walls, and their kings shall
minister to you ...Your gates shall be open continuously; day and
night they shall not be shut; that men may bring to you the wealth
of the nations, with their kings led in procession. For the nation or
kingdom that will not not serve you; shall perish; those nations
shall be utterly laid waste...." (Isaiah 60:10-12)
You shall suck the milk of nations, you shall suck the breast of
kings; and you shall know that I, the LORD, am your Savior and your
Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob." (Isaiah 60:16)
And strangers [Gentiles] shall stand and feed your flocks,
strangers shall be your plowmen and vinedressers; but you shall
be called the priests of the LORD, men shall speak of you as the
ministers of our God; you shall eat the wealth of the nations, and in
their riches you shall glory." (Isaiah 61:5-6)
Lest we underestimate the scope and influence of such Jewish
writings within their own community, let us consider the
experience by a dear friend of mine, now deceased, who was born
and raised within the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in New
York.! Her father was a rabbi who had survived Auschwitz.! Yet,
she—a very lovely, intelligent, kind and generous individual—felt
the need to escape from the oppression of her community, which
made her shave her head, marry a man she did not love and suffer
assorted other indignities and deprivations, including being barred
from studying the Jewish text called the Talmud because she was
a female. My friend was very aware of this exclusion because she
knew how important that book was to her community, as she used
to hide behind the door listening to her father teach it to the
younger men.

Babylonian Talmud
The Talmud—which is not "Holy Writ" in itself but which frequently
cites the Tanakh/Old Testament—is one of the mostimportant
texts within Orthodox Judaism. Not only did this exhaustive legal
text take centuries to compile but it is poredover endlessly by
Orthodox Jewish rabbis. Along with the Tanakh, the Talmud is
repeatedly consulted for the very minutest details of orthodox
Jewish life. As Jewish apologist Herman Wouk says in This is My
God (181):
The Talmud is not only an encyclopedia of law but a work of folk
art, a hymn to the Lord rising out of many generations of men who
spent their lives in the quest for him. This quest for God, the
confident search for the holy in every busy detail of life, is its
grand single theme. The Talmud recaptures a long golden age of
intelligence and insight, and it is to this day the circulating heart's
blood of the Jewish religion. Whatever laws, customs, or
ceremonies we observe—whether we are orthodox, Conservative,
Reform, or merely spasmodic sentimentalists—we follow the
Talmud. It is our common law."
Following are some quotes from the Soncino edition of the Talmud:
...R. Hanina also said: He who smites an Israelite on the jaw, is as
though he had thus assaulted the Divine Presence; for it is written,
one who smiteth man [i.e. an Israelite] attacketh the Holy One.
(Sanhedrin 58b)
It was taught: R. Judah used to say, A man is bound to say the
following three blessings daily: "[Blessed art thou...] who hast not
made me a heathen, [non-Jew]" ".... who hast not made me a
woman"; and "... who hast not made me a brutish man."...
(Menachoth 43b-44a)
And he who desires that none of his vows made during the year
shall be valid, let him stand at the beginning of the year and
declare, ‘Every vow which I may make in the future shall be null.1
[HIS VOWS ARE THEN INVALID,] PROVIDING THAT HE REMEMBERS
THIS AT THE TIME OF THE VOW. (Nedarim 23b)
These are but a few of the passages in the Talmud that reflect an
"anti-goyim" or accountability-shirking attitude. Indeed, within both
the Talmud and Tanakh appears a disturbing amount of material
that foments xenophobia—the "stranger-fear" so evident from the
clannishness of these communities—and apparently fosters
corruption in the form of "sucking the milk" and "eating the wealth
of the nations." This attitude can also be found in various quotes
from Jewish leaders over the centuries, reflecting that this
mentality definitely does exist.
The question is why? Is it all blameable as a reaction to perceived
"anti-Semitism?" Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
Certainly, the Old Testament record of Israelites rampaging
through the "Holy Land" and slaughtering non-Jews to steal their
booty and virgin girls occurred long before "anti-Semitism" was
ever conceived.
If people are programmed from birth with these various "religious"
texts—some of which are said to be the very "Word of God"—is it
any wonder they will behave in this manner? Defenders of such
writings claim that these prejudicial parts are"taken out of
context" and constitute only a small portion of the massive texts.
Regarding this "out of context" quote mining, Wouk (181) also
states:
In a word, one can say almost anything about this tape recording
of the talk of wise men through seven centuries, and then find a
passage to support it. The enemies of Judaism in all ages have
snipped out the harshest, strangest patches they could find, run
them together, and offered the result to the world as the true
face of the Jews' mystery book. The same technique could make a
preposterous dummy of the New Testament or of the Old, of the
works of Plato, Shakespeare, or Dickens, or the utterances of our
American presidents."
These contentions are somewhat true, in that some of the
passages used by Talmud-bashers are certainly taken out of
context and paraphrased poorly, and that there is much more to
the Talmud. But in light of the "holier-than-thou" attitude frequently
developed by the most pious, can we really just ignore the effects
that these "relatively few" bigoted writings have upon the human
mind, particulary when searching for a source for the corruption of
so many leaders of the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community and when
factoring in the numerous scriptures from the Old
Testament/Tanakh cited above that clearly dictate megalomania
and hegemony?
Instead of conditioning children with anachronistic, ethnocentric
and prejudicial "scriptures" from ancient times, let us portray and
recreate humanity in an more evolved manner. The solution is not
to pit culture against culture, with shrill cries using "hate speech,"
but to provide less hate speech in the first place in our "holy
texts," which need either to be rewritten or to be scrapped
entirely in favor of more enlightened creation.

Scriptures from the New

Testament
With Commentary by Acharya S
Christian Enmity and Hatred
Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not
come to bring peace, but with a sword. For I have come to set a man
against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a
daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's foes will be
those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than
me is not worthy. (Mt.10:34-37)
=All this enmity from the "Prince of Peace!"

Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Bethsaida! ...But I tell you, it shall
be more tolerable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for
you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be
brought down.
=Ditto.

And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or
mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a
hundred-fold, and inherit eternal life. (Mt. 19:29)
=By definition, Jesus is a cult leader - and a very effective one with big
enticement.

Do you think I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but
rather division; for henceforth in one house there will be five divided,
three against two and two against three; they will be divided, father
against son and son against father, mother against daughter and
daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and
daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. (Lk. 12:51-53)
Phew!
= That's alotta "againsts"! And enemies.

If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother
and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own
life, he cannot be my disciple. (Lk. 14:26)
=More cult brainwashing and hatred.

For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom,
and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: all this is
but the beginning of the sufferings. (Mt. 24:7-8)
Setting the stage -
= why would any "good" and "omnipotent" God cause or allow this to
happen?

But I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who
curse you... (Lk. 6:27-8)
=Why do you have enemies in the first place? Because of all the enmity
and hatred.
Christian Fascism
I tell you, on the day of judgment men will render account for every
careless word they utter; for by your words you will be justified, and
by your words you will be condemned. (Mt. 12:36-37)
=We can kill someone, as long as we speak properly.

You are my friends if you do what I command you. (Jn. 15:14)

=Yeah, that's what I tell all my friends too.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is

no authority except from God, and those that exist have been
instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists
what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For
rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have
no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will
receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you
do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the
servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one
must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake
of conscience. For the same reason you also pay taxes to whom taxes
are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is
due, honor to whom honor is due. (Romans 13:1-7)
=Gee, I wonder who wrote these passages?

Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it

be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to
punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.... Fear
God. Honor the emperor. (1 Pet. 2:17)
=There's the answer.

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be

obedient, to be ready for any honest work ...(Titus 3:1)
How convenient for the rulers!
Obey your leaders and submit to them; for they are keeping watch
over your souls, as men who will have to give account. (Hebrews
13:17)
=Truly Christianity is a religion created by rabblerousers!

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. (Mt. 22:21)

=Now, in whose interest would it be for "Jesus" to exhort people to
give all their money to the emperor?

Love does not insist on its own way ...(1 Cor. 13:5)
=So why do Christians?

Christian Bigotry, Racism and Murderous Intent

For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the
church whom you are to judge? Go judge those outside. "Drive out the
wicked person from among you." (1 Cor. 5:12-13)
The Watchtower of the Jehovah's Witnesses says of this passage:
"Today, the Bible-based practice of disfellowshipping unrepentant
wrongdoers has served to keep our worship clean and pure."
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you
pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the
measure you get. (Mt. 7:1-2)
=Just a tad schizophrenic with the above - and the day of judgment.
You brood of vipers! how can you speak good, when you are evil? (Mt.
12:34)
=And Jesus spends half of the time judging people.

Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! .... You serpents, you
brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell! (Mt.
23:29-33)
And on it goes.
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's
desires. (Jn. 8:44)
=Jesus is a self-hating Jew.

...a Canaanite woman ...came out and cried, "Have mercy on me, O
Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon.
But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged
him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying after us." He answered, "I
was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came
and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." And he answered, "It is
not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."
A woman of a different ethnicity approaches the Savior with a sick
daughter, and he ignores her and then calls her a dog! And only the
house of Israel is to be saved.
It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and of a
kind that is not found even among pagans; for a man is living with his
father's wife.... Let him who has done this be removed from among
you.... with the power of Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to
Satan, for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in
the day of the Lord Jesus. (1 Cor. 5:1-5)
=In other words, it's best to murder him in order to "save" him.

For there are many insubordinate men, empty talkers and deceivers,
especially the circumcision party; they must be silenced ...(Titus 1:10-
11)
=In other words, the Jews.
...Zion ...But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
God's own people ...(1 Pet. 2:6-9)
=Just a tad schizophrenic with the above.
Christian Psycho-Sexual Pathology and Foolishness
But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has
already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Mt.5:27)
=Is it any wonder that they're so uptight? Attraction and flirting are
sins!
But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes
you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. (Mt. 5:39)
Throw out the wicked one from among you, but do not resist him? And
not only a pacifist but a masochist.
Woe to the world for temptation! ...And if your hand or foot causes
you to sin, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter
life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into
the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and
throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than
with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire. (Mt. 17:7-9)
=We don't see a lot of self-mutilated one-eyed or one-handed
Christians wandering about.

For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are
eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs
who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven. He
who is able to receive this, let him receive it. (Mt. 19:12)
=And castrated! Perhaps most are.

I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I

do the very thing I hate. (1 Cor. 6:15)
=No wonder, with all these rules and regulations.

...God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose
what is weak in the world to shame the strong. (1 Cor. 1:27)
God would rather have a weak, foolish world.
Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to
mourning and your joy to dejection. Humble yourselves before the
Lord and he will exalt you. (James 4:9-10)
=Reflecting a masochistic, bootlicking life.

Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. (Lk. 6:20)
The fact is that poverty is hell. Why doesn't the omnipotent God snap
his fingers and get rid of poverty?
=This comment is exactly what one would expect from the rich people
in power.

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall
eat, nor about your body, what you shall put on.... Sell your
possessions, and give alms. (Lk. 12:22-33)
Can you imagine living like that in this world? Christians should be
running around half-starved and naked, giving all their money away.
One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the
poor ...(Lk. 18:22)
=And now for another commercial break: don't expect the rich rulers
to take care of the poor - you do it! And then you'll be poor, so
someone else will have to sell their possessions and give their money
to you! Is this a pyramid scheme?

For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. (Jn. 3:8)
=With what money? And how come His Omnipotence doesn't just
multiply the loaves and fishes? He needs a bigger audience?

...but whoever denies me before men, I will also deny before my Father
who is in heaven. (Mt. 10:33)
=What a whiner! Go tell your Daddy!

And every one who speaks a word against the Son of man will be
forgiven ...(Lk. 12:10)
=Get it straight - which is it?

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man
and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and
drinks my blood has eternal life. For my flesh is food indeed, and my
blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood
abides in me, and I in him.... (Jn. 6:53-53)
=Isn't it nice we can get so cozy through cannibalism?

The end of all things is at hand ...(1 Pet. 4:7)

=That was 2,000 years ago ...snore.

Christian Sexism and Slavery

It is well for a man not to touch a woman. But because of the
temptation to immorality, each man should have his own wife and each
woman her own husband. 1 Cor. 7:1-2
=Touching women is immoral.

But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the
head of every woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God....
any woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled dishonors
her head ...For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off
her hair ...For a man ought not to cover his head; since he is the image
and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. (For man was not
made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for
woman, but woman for man.) 1 Cor. 11:2-10
=The idiotic and sexist story of Adam and Eve turns science on its
head by making the man the creator of human life, rather than the
woman. Man is woman's God.

Wives, be submissive to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the

husband is head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his
body, and is himself its Savior. As the church is subject to Christ, so let
wives also be subject in everything to their husbands. (Eph. 5:21-24)
=Again, the man is basically equivalent with God.

...the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not
permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says.
If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at
home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. (1 Cor.
14:34-35)
=It is shameful for a woman to BE in church in the first place.
Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman
to teach or have authority over men; she is to keep silent. For Adam
was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the
woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet woman will be
saved through bearing children, if she continues in faith and love and
holiness, with modesty. (1 Tim. 11:15)
=Yes, shut up and stay pregnant. Very advanced.

Wives, be subject to your husband, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands,

love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your
parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not
provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Slaves, obey in
everything those who are your earthly masters, not with eyeservice, as
men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord. (Col. 3:18-
22)
=Sure, women, children and slaves - put up with your indentured
status, for men's sakes.

....and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be sensible, chaste, domestic, kind, and submissive to their
husbands, that the word of God may not be discredited.... Bid slaves
to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every
respect ...(Titus 2:4-9)
=It doesn't discredit the word of God that women and children are to
be slaves and servants of men?

No one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four
thousand who had been redeemed from the earth. It is these who
have not defiled themselves with women, for they are chaste ...Rev.
14:3-4
=So the 144,000 are all men? And women are defiling. A gay heaven?

Slaves, be obedient to those who are your earthly masters, with fear
and trembling, in singleness of heart, as to Christ ...(Eph. 6:5)
In other words, be happy about your wretched state - and fearful!
Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as
worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may
not be defamed. (1 Tim. 6)
=Slavery itself doesn't defame God's name?

Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to

the kind and gentle but to the overbearing. For one is approved if,
mindful of God, he endures pain while suffering unjustly. For what
credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you take it
patiently? But if when you do right and suffer for it you take it
patiently, you have God's approval. 1 Pet. 2:18-20
=So, if God is "good" and is in charge of everything, why does anyone
suffer unjustly? Unless God is a sadist, and we are meant to be
masochists.
