CLOSING MESSAGE1
ARCHIMEDES C. ARTICULO, M. Phil., LL.B., M.B.A., D.PL.A.
Campus Executive Officer
CAGAYAN STATE UNIVERSITY CARIG CAMPUS
chitocsu@gmail.com
Delivered during the Regional Economic Conference, August 1, 2014, CSU Carig, CICS
Amphitheater. A joint project of Cagayan State University Carig Campus, Philippine
Economic Society, and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office
No. 02.
contribute to the promotion of the inclusive growth for which this present
Administration is a well-known champion.
Our activity today with the Philippine Economic Society and the National
Economic Development Authority, Region 02, has provided us with a perfect
opportunity to review the philosophical basis and foundation of the education
we offer here in the University. Economics examines topics of obvious
importance to human well-being. It is applicable in a wide range of fields,
including business, finance, administration, law, local and national government,
the university administration, and, indeed, most aspects of OUR everyday life.
Economics, as a discipline and as an activity, plays a crucial role in a
setting where the real problem of scarcity of resources and opportunities are
made worst by the problems of political and bureaucratic corruption, which the
Government is now trying its best to address. With the changing and severe
weather patterns and other problems caused by climate change affecting the
country today, there is no better time, than ours, to discuss appreciate the
problem of scarcity.
The political dynamics that we observe today, when seen in light of the
premises of Economics as a study and activity, would emphasize one important
lesson to its students: economics is not just a subject; it's a way of thinking. It
does not simply study economic phenomena and theories; it must be capable
of being used to empower people and to construct a better world.
A progressive Philippines is fueled not only by capital or financial
investments, but also of visions and ideals, that are genuinely conducive to
economic growth that could be felt at the grassroots and household levels. It is
within this framework that the concept of inclusive growth must be appreciated.
Why poverty reduction programs and projects of the government must
succeed. Why we should promote a pro-poor and inclusive strategy for
economic growth. And why we should have more activities in partnership with
the Philippine Economic Society.
Marami pa po tayong programa upang lalong mapabilis pa ang pagangat ng edukasyon sa ating Probinsya at Rehiyon tungo sa pang-kalahatang
pag-unlad ng ating Bayan.
On behalf of the men and women of the Cagayan State University, I
thank you all for actively attending our Conference today.
HANGGANG SA MULI PO NATING PAG-KIKITA. MARAMING SALAMAT PO.
MABUHAY TAYONG LAHAT!
MABUHAY ANG SAMBAYANANG PILIPINO.
