Background

Concept

Undertake a period of focused, in-depth and sustained research into an area

of graphic design appropriate to your design strategy. You should apply a range
of research methods in the investigation of issues, practices, practitioners and
companies relating to your own particular area of study. This should culminate in
the design and production of a Case Study in the form of a book (or print based
delivery), interactive DVD or web site.

To create a publication that reflects the design methodology M.U.S.I.C

which is a acronym for Methodology, Understanding, Substance, inspiration
and Create.

Brief

Deliverables

Create a research publication looking into design for music, culminating

areas of branding, editorial and art direction. This publication will include
some of the most imperative things about designing for music, influences
and ambitions in the industry.

Influenced by music flyers and zines to synthesis with the subject of the
publication.

Aesthetic

Research into existing publication that experiment with music design and
colourful stocks influenced the design outcome for the brief.

Bold colours, imagery and stocks where introduced into these publications to
visually represent the culture of music, which was considered for the production
method.

Design Aesthetics

Stock

Typography

A series of bold and colourful stocks where introduced to represent the exciting
and experimental nature of design for music.

Simple typography was used to no distract away from the content and bold
imagery within the publication through the use of Acidenz Grotesk.

Binding

The masthead was created using Furtra CG bold for legibility and the laser cut
cover was introduced to represent a window into the interesting culture of
design for music.

A screw bring method was incorporated to hold the flyer inspired publication
pages and ties into the music zine culture.

Stock

The publication explore the methodology and how it has been applied to the
design practice throughout the year showing examples of design outcomes in
where it was executed.

The publication is colour coded with different stock to highlight the sections of
the methodology as well was introducing secondary sourced of flyers, posters
and artwork that has been collated of the year that has influenced the design
methodology.

Quotes from designs and artists also are embedded in the content to signify the
most imperative things that have influenced the design research and practice.
