Background

Concept

Orbit which means (an area of activity, interest, or influence / the regularly repeated
elliptical course of a planet) is a traveling guide aimed at students about to graduate or have
graduated their final year. Traveling is the greatest way to escape and find out what is really
out there in the world. To see how others work, communicate and live their life.

To brand and create an identity for a traveling publication, to some of the most
interesting places to visit around the world.

To create a publication on the top 10 places to visit around the world focusing on the best
sights to see and cultural activities.

The list of places must inform students how to get there, be affordable and offer job
alternatives to raise money to get to their next destination.
The pack will act as a bucket list of things to do for students after they graduate.

Visits

Research into existing publications influenced the aesthetic of the Orbit publication. These
publication where heavily photography driven giving audiences a voyeuristic view of the
potential places to visit around the work.

Visits to travel agencies and independent book stores informed the design by speaking to
specialists in the field to help define the tone of voice as young, exciting and informative.

Logo Development

Concept

Outcomes

The with the circumflex over the top influenced the logo design as it represented a
navigation symbol which relates to travel

Cocogoose and futura where experimented with typographically due to the letter o
creating a perfect circle to represent the phrase orbit and to represent the image of a
globe.

It also represents length and a particular quality which relates to the time it takes to
travel the world and the style of the publication.

Final
The final resolution was selected due to the themes of travel and the work being easily
identifiable in the first the letter form.

Branding Guidelines

Logo

Dimensions

The logo acts as the masthead for the publication with a primary and secondary logo for
other proposed printed material for the brief.

The dimensions of the publication work at A5, the small book was created to make it easy
for readers on the move. Linking contextually to the concept of travel for practicality.

Final Resolution

Layout

Aesthetic

Each location is numbered counting the top 10 places to visit round the globe. The places
within the publication where influenced by the orbit of the earth and follow round in a
circular nature to create visual synthesis.

The final publication takes on a simplistic layout, with photographic driven content to allow
users to get an insight into the places they could travel.
