Graphic Design
Level 06
This is your building. You live here. So we want you to create something for the space thats
yours. This is your chance to become part of the fabric of the building and have a legacy
even after youve left! Anything goes: Illustration, typography, photography, installation,
whatever but there are some important things to bear in mind: This has to be something
that you and your course mates want to look at every day so it has to have some
aesthetic value It has to be practical - something we can feasibly produce for a moderate
budget It should communicate an idea.
In graphic design, There is always more that what meets the eye. This course has
allowed us to see the multitude of avenues that we can evolve and experiment in to
be a designer. This concept is demonstrated through a A 3D Type installation, with
backlighting created through neon perspex or spray paint to give the typography
visual depth. What ever angle you look at the type it enhances the idea that it will
always stand out from the mundane and challenge your perspective. The Layered
type represents the evolution of a designer building up on their skills on the course
and bold orange signifying growth and adventure.

Visual Research
Signage
Typography
Research into existing signage influenced the outcome of the brief and the section of
materials that could be used for the final outcome.
The typography within the signage is simplistic and clean and allows the material to stand
out, this was a major influence in the design for the brief.

Type
Materials
In considering the simlpcity of type the conept was to create the prgramme name in a fun
exciting way through the use of materials. The typography used within the design was DIN
bold to create impact, legbility and to stand out.
The proposed materials used where white and neon orange acrylic. The orange acrylic
would reflect a bright light when hung onto a wall, created from natural light to create a
sustainle alternative to back lit signage.

Experimentation
Outcome
Experimentation with neon card and wood was created for the initial pitch to show a visual
variations of other possibly materials that could be used and how the design physically
works.
The materials used both created the orange backlit signage, proposed in the first set of
initial developments. The orange colour was used to suggest adventure, fun and creativity
which are all themes relative to the BAGD programme.

Final Resolution
Signage
Aesthetic
The final resolution was proposed using white neon card to give an essence of what the
developed product would look like.
The programme name and level number would be presented in the BAGD spaces as a way
finding feature to visitors and to create impact within the graphic design space.
