4. Please analyse the case. There are five students studying in Australia, two are doing
Masters course in science and the other doing a PhD research degree in social science
subject. All students are from non-English medium country in Indonesia, Malaysia,
Japan, and Korea. What do you think the main components each of needs on a four week
pre-sessional course (EAP course)?
Answer :
I think the main component of need for them is different. They are have different
Mother tongue, country and English background. All of them are Asian, actually I
am sure that they need learn about speaking especially Pronunciation. The well
Pronunciation can help them interaction and survival in Australian. Not only that
They need learn about Vocabulary because Science and Social Science have
different vocabulary. Vocabulary help them at their campus
5. What do you know about genre in ESP teaching? Explain.
Answer:
Genre in ESP Teaching actually is as part of discourse Analysis, We can call it
Genre analysis which it used in Teaching in Text. The genre Analysis focuses on the
structures that distinguish one type of text from another type.
6. Have a look at Dudley-Evans & St Johns book on page 140, extract E7.1. about
Precourse information questionnaire.

b. What else would you want to know?
c. Could you include additional questions to obtain that information?
Answer:
a. The question will help most in designing course is the question which it
matching with the learner aim such as: Is there a particular reason for
wanting to take a course at this point in your life? (FUTURE USE OF
ENGLISH), Please describe the roles and responsibility of your job.
b. The other thing I want to know:
What difficulties in learning English and what kinds of skill that he/she
wants to improve.
c. Yes I could because it is no matter we want to know more information about
the need of our learners furthermore the additional questions to make
easier in Teaching.
