WARNING: This is a heated parts

cleaner. Use only nonflammable,
non-combustible, water-based
cleaning compounds in this
machine. Do not fill or contaminate with any flammable or combustible material such as gasoRISK OF EXPLOSION:
line, alcohol, mineral spirits, etc.
DO NOT SPRAY
FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS. Drain parts to be cleaned of any
combustible or flammable material before placing inside cabinet. Failure to observe
this warning will create an extremely hazardous condition.
2. All installations must comply with local codes. Contact your electrician, plumber, utility company or the
selling distributor for specific details.
3. To protect the operator from electrical shock, the machine must be electrically grounded. It is the responsibility of the owner to connect this machine to a
grounded receptacle of proper voltage and amperage ratings. Do not touch machine with wet hands
or while standing in water. Always disconnect power
before servicing.
4. Never make adjustments on the machine while it is
in operation, except those prescribed in this manual.

This manual covers the operation and maintenance of
the SJ-100A, SJ-100B, SJ-100C, SJ-150A, SJ-150B,
SJ-150C, SJ-250B, SJ-250C, SJ-350B and SJ-350C
Parts Washer. All information in this manual is based
on the latest product information available at the time of
printing.

The owner and/or user must have an understanding of
the manufacturers operating instructions and warnings
before using this LANDA machine. Warning information
should be emphasized and understood. If the operator
is not fluent in English, the manufacturers instructions
and warnings shall be read to and discussed with the
operator in the operators native language by the purchaser/owner, making sure that the operator comprehends its contents.

STANDARD SAFETY FEATURES

The SJ Parts Washer uses electricity to operate. This
can be fatal if not handled properly. For this reason, the
SJ has been designed with safety in mind. The following
are standard safety features you will find.

1. One Hour Wash Timer and Indicator Light

This switch insures that the parts washer will turn
off the pump at a specific elapsed time.
2. Low Water Float Switch and Indicator Light
This float switch insures that there is water covering
the heating element. Before the water level drops
and begins to expose the heating element, the low
water float switch turns off the heaters and wash
pump and turns on the low water indicator light.
3. 7-Day Programmable Heater Timer
Conserves energy by turning heating elements on
and off at operator set times, when machine is not in
use. Allows 3 hours for the machine to come up to
temperature.
4. Spray Arm Stop
When the wash timer turns off, a hinged stop will
drop down to prevent the spray arm from spinning
when the door is opened.
5. Temperature Control
The high temperature control monitors the internal
temperature of the parts washer and maintains water temperature at prescribed set point.
INSTALLATION
1. Location-Locate the SJ Parts Washer on a level concrete surface in a room that is well ventilated. Protect from damaging environments such as wind, rain,
sun and freezing temperatures.
2. Electrical-This parts washer is designed for indoor
operation. Refer to the serial plate for proper voltage
and amp requirements. All electrical lines must be
tested with a voltage meter for proper voltage before
connecting.
NOTE: Correct Rotation of Pump Motor - After connecting electrical power to parts washer check for
proper rotation of pump motor. Correct rotation is
clockwise looking from the fan end of the motor. Failure to check rotation and having the motor operate
in a counterclockwise rotation will damage the pump.
Damage will consist of the impeller coming loose
from the motor shaft damaging the impeller, shaft
seals and pump housing.
CAUTION: All electrical lines must be installed

only by qualified personnel. All installations must
be electrically grounded and conform to all local
and National Electrical codes.
The electrical connection is located on the rear of
the control panel using a 1" knock-out. Electrical conduit must be run all the way to the connection point
in accordance with local codes.

3. Level the SJ Parts Washer by placing steel shims at

corners until level. Once level elevate front of machine 1/4" to aid in draining top of door.
4. Obtain a detergent that is designed for parts washer
applications and that will be suitable for the parts
being cleaned. The detergent must have anti-rust
inhibitors added to keep the parts washer from
rusting.
5. Fill water tank just below the chip tray. Dissolve and
mix the recommended detergent before pouring into
water tank.
NOTE: The detergent must be thoroughly mixed before adding to tank. To ensure detergent mixes properly and does not foam, make sure machine is up to
operating temperature before adding any detergent.
6. Because of the amount of water/detergent vapors
emitted from this machine, an exhaust stack should
be attached to the top of the machine and vented
outside. The stack is 6" flanged. A 6" vent, in a single
piece design, should be installed in compliance with
all local codes. If the stack has seams, the seams
must be sealed with sealant to prevent moisture
leaks.

PRE-START CHECKLIST
Follow all pre-start procedures before attempting to
start the SJ-100A, B, C; SJ-150A, B, C; SJ-250B, C
and the SJ-350B, C.
1. Level the machine. Once level, elevate front of
machine 1/4". Anchor to floor.
2. Verify the voltage, then connect the electrical lines
to the machine.
3. Detergent and water have been added to water tank.

times. Turn dial clockwise until the time of day is adjacent to time arrow. Heater light will illuminate when
heater element is ON. Allow about three hours for
water to reach operating temperature. In case of
power failure, reset clock on timer.
Set adjustable thermostat (Optional) to the desired
temperature. Suggested operating range is between
130 to 170. The surface thermostat behind the control panel is set at 170.
NOTE: Most soaps work best between 140 to 165.
Push door latch down to open door and place the
items to be cleaned into the parts basket. Then close
the door and hook the latch to lock the door. To prevent lifting injuries, use caution when lifting parts in
or out.
Rotate the wash timer dial to the desired time set
point (numbers on the face of the timer are in minute
intervals). The wash cycle light will illuminate. This
setting will vary with the degree and type of cleaning.
To operate the optional skimmer, push the oil skimmer switch to the timer position. Set timer on back of
control panel by pulling out trippers on dial to set
skimmer to come ON when heating elements are
OFF. Oil will separate from water better as temperature cools.
The exhaust fan option is operated by turning the
exhaust fan switch ON when the machine is operating. This will prevent steam vapors from entering
the room when the door is opened and increasing
the evaporation rate which requires fresh water
makeup that keeps wash water cleaner.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Voltage light should be illuminated if power supply is
connected. Low water light should be off when tank
water level is correct.
2. Push heater switch to timer position. The heater
switch ON position will override the timer switch.
Turn the heating element on by setting the 7-day programmable heater timer. Set the timer by pulling out
trippers on dial to set desired heating element ON

MAINTENANCE
CAUTION: Use protective gloves, goggles and any
other protective clothing required by law for chemicals mixed with the waste stream.
This machine does not require a lot of maintenance, but
it does require consistent maintenance. The frequency
of maintenance will vary depending on what is in the
water.
General maintenance will consist of removal of sludge
from the bottom of the wash tank and removal of any
floating oil in the wash tank.

A 30 micron bag collects particles from recirculating wash
water to keep wash water clean for a longer period of
time.
Small Parts Basket #21-140

This basket is 12" x 6" x 5" and comes equipped with a
lid to accommodate small parts that would fall through
the holes of the standard basket.
WARNING: Shut down the parts washer and allow it

to cool before performing any maintenance. Do not
allow pump to run longer than 5 minutes without
water. Disconnect all hoses to allow water to drain.

Oil Removal:
Wastewater Drum Evaporator #21-190
If you have floating oil in the wash tank that needs to be

removed, shut down the machine and let the oil float to
the top. Set oil skimmer timer to come on automatically
or turn on oil skimmer manually. Let run for 30 minutes.
The wash water will eventually have to be removed and

disposal must meet local regulations. If the regulations
require costly disposal then the wash solution can be
placed in a metal 55 gallon drum (not provided) and this
option is attached to evaporate the water to decrease
the amount of waste water being disposed.
Sludge Removal:
Remove the lower 3" pipe plug on the side of the machine allowing all of the water to escape. Use a small
shovel to remove the residual sludge from the bottom of
the tank. Removing the sludge and cleaning the floor of
the SJ Parts Washer will greatly increase the life of the
heating elements.
For continuous washing cycles where hot water temperatures must be maintained or faster heat up time is needed.
Automatic Oil Skimmer

CAUTION: Disposal of contaminated water must

comply with local and federal EPA regulations.
When oily parts are cleaned the oil floats on top of the
wash water and should be removed to improve cleaning.
A stainless steel disc attracts this floating oil and scrapes
it off into a customer supplied bucket. A 24 hour timer
turns the skimmer on when water is calm.
Spray Arm:
Scrub Tub Option #21-220
The spray nozzles should be checked regularly for obstruction and cleaned by removing and inserting a probe.
The spray arm nozzle angle on both spray arms should
be mounted in the same direction.
Scrub tub draws solution from the SJ-Tank. Which means

only one solution tank needs to be maintained.
Filters:
With the tank empty, clean the suction pump strainer. If
you have the strainer filter, turn off the parts washer and
twist the strainer basket off, remove the filter screen.
Clean when pressure gauge shows a 10 PSI decrease
from start up pressure.
Double Basket with Spray Arm

Small parts can be cleaned in this double basket with a
spray arm adjusted for close contact.

Re-prime (3 or 4 times may be needed) by

stopping and starting motor several times.

shaft seal.
Fill tank with water.
Jet or impeller is plugged

Pump inlet strainer plugged
Clean jet or impeller, see Maintenance.

Clean or remove sludge from strainer.
Hoses are frozen

Allow water to heat to operating temperature.

LANDA LIMITED NEW PRODUCT WARRANTY

SJ AUTOMATIC PARTS WASHERS (SJ Series)
WHAT THIS WARRANTY COVERS
All LANDA SJ automatic parts washers are warranted by LANDA, INC. to the original purchaser to be free from defects in
materials and workmanship under normal use, for the periods specified below. This Limited Warranty, subject to the exclusions
shown below, is calculated from the date of the original purchase, and applies to the original components only. Any parts
replaced under this warranty will assume the remainder of the parts warranty period.
ONE YEAR PARTS AND ONE YEAR LABOR WARRANTY:
All components and accessories excluding normal wear items as described below.
WARRANTY PROVIDED BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS:
Motors, which are warranted by their respective manufacturers, are serviced through these manufacturers local authorized
service centers. LANDA cannot provide warranty on these items.
WHAT THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER
This warranty does not cover the following items:
1. Normal wear items, such as nozzles, seals, filters, gaskets, O-rings, fuses, oil-skimmer belts, calrods.
2. Damage or malfunctions resulting from accidents, abuse, modifications, alterations, incorrect installation, improper
servicing, failure to follow manufacturers maintenance instructions, or use of the equipment beyond its stated usage
specifications as contained in the operators manual.
3. Damage due to freezing, chemical deterioration, scale buildup, rust, or corrosion.
4. Damage to components from fluctuations in electrical or water supply.
5. Normal maintenance service, including adjustments, system cleaning, and clearing of obstructions.
6. Transportation to service center, field labor charges, or freight damage.
WHAT YOU MUST DO TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE
While not required for warranty service, we request that you register your LANDA Product by returning the completed registration card. In order to obtain warranty service on items warranted by LANDA, you must return the product to your Authorized
LANDA Dealer, freight prepaid, with proof of purchase, within the applicable warranty period. If the product is permanently
installed, you must notify your Authorized LANDA Dealer of the defect. Your Authorized LANDA Dealer will file a claim with
Landa, who must subsequently verify the defect. In most cases, the part must be returned to LANDA freight prepaid with the
claim. For warranty service on components warranted by other manufacturers, your Authorized LANDA Dealer can help you
obtain warranty service through these manufacturers local authorized service centers. If you are unable to resolve the warranty
claim satisfactorily, write to LANDA at 4275 N.W. Pacific Rim Blvd., Camas, WA 98607, ATTN: Warranty Dept., detailing the
nature of the defect, the name of the Authorized LANDA Dealer, and a copy of the purchase invoice.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
LANDAS liability for special, incidental, or consequential damages is expressly disclaimed. In no event shall LANDAS liability
exceed the purchase price of the product in question. LANDA makes every effort to ensure that all illustrations and specifications are correct, however, these do not imply a warranty that the product is merchantable or fit for a particular purpose, or that
the product will actually conform to the illustrations and specifications. THE WARRANTY CONTAINED HEREIN IS IN LIEU OF
ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. LANDA does not authorize any other party, including authorized LANDA Dealers, to make any representation or promise on behalf of LANDA, or to modify the terms, conditions, or limitations in any way. It is the buyers responsibility
to ensure that the installation and use of LANDA products conforms to local codes. While LANDA attempts to assure that its
products meet national codes, it cannot be responsible for how the customer chooses to use or install the product.
