started her day with a 225-208 win against defending champion Maria Jose Rodriguez of Austin,
Texas, denying Rodriguez the chance to become the
first bowler since 1982 to successfully defend a
Queens title.
The southpaw was able to pull away with five
consecutive strikes in frames five through nine,
while Rodriguez's undoing was a 4-6-7-10 split in
the fourth frame.
In the opening match, Rodriguez downed Liz
Kuhlkin of Schenectady, New York, 10-9 in a oneball roll-off after the two tied at 227.
Kuhlkin, a two-time national champion at the
University of Nebraska, needed three strikes in her
final frame to advance but left a 10 pin on her final
offering. She left another in the roll-off, allowing
Rodriguez to advance.
This week in Green Bay, more than 200 players
bowled 15 games of qualifying over three days to
determine the 63 bowlers who would join
Rodriguez in the double-elimination match-play
bracket.
The Queens is the first event of the 2015 PWBA
season. The Tour re-launched this year after a 12year hiatus. The next event is scheduled for July 912 in Sacramento, California.
"I'm just very honored and humbled to be in the
position, but I'm not done yet," said Johnson, who
was inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame earlier
this year. "It has been an amazing career so far, but
I'm going to keep going. We have the ladies tour
coming up in the summer, and we have a lot of good
stuff coming up. Hopefully, I can continue the run."
Nathaniel Fuller rolled 222-268269-759, Steve Brandt 226-255248-729, Kennedy Wojdyulo 223254-246-723, and Christina
Schulze 245-238-225-708.

MONTVALE, NJ - Sixteen Stan Niemiec youth
bowlers were named by the Bergen Record to its all
Bergen-Passaic H.S. All-Star teams and the StarLedger selected seven for All-State honors.
In the young travelers final session, held at
Montvale Lanes, justification for those picks was
certainly evident. Lyndhurst senior Jordan Lopez,
who had rolled a perfect game during the season for
his school, added one Sunday and then followed
with 279, giving him 750, the days best set.
Jordans incredible twenty-three strikes in his closing twenty-four frames propelled his North
Arlington squad to five of seven points against Lodi
and league high average of 218.67.
Other deuces for the winners were, Vin Amato
216, Haley Hassan 205-202 and Jenai Bacote 200.
Pacing Lodi were Steve Kropilak 256 and Nick
Ferrante 231. Pompton Lakes sophomore Nick
Cilento, this years state champion, strung an opening game eleven strikes before ending with a ninecount for 299. Nick then added 216-204 to finish
with 719. His Holiday I quartet fired a blistering
2710 net in clinching second place with a sweep of
Bowler City II.
Frank Magyar set the table for the victors with an
impressive high roller consistency, posting 239246-255, 740. Alex McGuire contributed 259-257,
696 and Lilly Sigona added 189, 555.
Pummeling the pins for BC II were Dean
