Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF)

At the beginning of term 3, our school will receive a $125 grant from the state government for every
student whose parent/ guardian holds a valid means-tested concession card. These grants are from
the newly created Camps, Sports and Excursions fund which has been set up to assist students to
join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities and will assist eligible families in
covering the costs of school camps, trips and sporting activities.

Its Time to Change It Up - National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between 27
May and 3rd June. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation
journey the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo
decision.
NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and
achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort.
The theme for this year is Its Time to Change It Up - with a continued focus on how Australians can better respect
each other, and recognise the contributions, cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What is recognition?
Recognition means different things to different people. The Macquarie Dictionary says that recognition means the
acknowledgement of something as valid or entitled to consideration.

Recognition can take lots of different forms, such as:

saying a simple thank you when someone lends you a helping hand
cheering on your friends or being cheered on during a game
being praised at work or school for your hard work and effort.
Think about how much you value recognition. When you are sincerely recognised for whom you are and what you
contribute, you feel proud, valued and connected.
Being recognised is good for your self-esteem. It energises you and encourages you to recognise the best in others.
Recognition is an important part of reconciliation. During National Reconciliation Week, think about the value of recognition, what it means to you and
why its important in building a national conversation about reconciliation. National Reconciliation Week is also the perfect opportunity to celebrate the
importance of respect, different perspectives and diverse cultural experiences. Learning about reconciliation helps students to become active and socially
aware citizens in many aspects of society.

Kayaking

Film Festival

Last week ten students from grades 5/6

commenced a six week kayaking program at Yarra
Junction Aquatic centre. The session was run by
Canoeing Victoria. The students were instructed by
Warwick Draper, a three time Summer Olympics
competitor. Warwick does an amazing job of
imparting his knowledge, skills and above all drive
and enthusiasm for kayaking.

Last Thursday students from grades 5/6 invited

parents and teachers to join them for a film
festival. The festival highlighted the amazing work
that the students have done over the past weeks,
writing, producing, acting in, filming and editing
small feature films. There were many smiles of
enjoyment as the students watched the result of
their hard work and commitment. A big thank you to Miss Nyman for
making this event possible. What a great way to
finish off education week!

Canteen is pleased to welcome BBQ Snaps (similar to a grain wave) yet much yummier, at a introductory
price of $1.00; and they are gluten free as well. Parents if you would like to read the ingredient list please
see myself on Thursday mornings.
We have Cheesey Rice Wheel, Spc Apple Jelly, Two Fruits Tubs at 50 each.
Please note Cheese twistems and BBQ Lone Stars will be no longer available and removed from the menu.

have paper bags at home there will be a cost of 10c per bag. Please dont staple or

Missing
A black case containing 15 games for a DS;
please return to school office.
Missing Toy
A student in grade 3/4M
had on display some special things from home for his
VIP week. One of these was a special toy called Bop.
Please see picture adjust. Last week was a busy week
in the classrooms with Grandparents and Special
Friends Day and also Open Night. There were a lot of
people that came through our classroom. If you have
seen this toy (or mistaken it for your own toy), please
bring Bop back to school. I know this student will
greatly appreciate it!
Clothing
With the weather starting to cool down, we are needing to keep warm. If
your child/ren are wearing jumpers or jackets please put their name visible
on the inside. If they get lost they can be returned. Please check your
child/rens jumpers, etc, just in case they may have picked someone elses
up by mistake. If that has happened could you please return them to the
school office so they can find their way back to the rightful owner.
