Test Specification Q128 (Hobley)


Test Equipment:
To be tested on the Hobley Test Rig.
Applicable to:
Ambient temperature pressure/operability testing of Stainless Steel LNG Globe and
Check Valves, Maximum Working Pressure of 10 Bar (1000 KPa).
Test Requirements:
Test valve in accordance with SOP BEST 003.
Test Pressures & Acceptance Standards:

Operability Test (Globe Valves only):


Using gas at 15 Bar (1500 KPa) pressure, valve shall be subjected to two full stroke
actuations (open-close-open-close-open). Actuations shall be smooth, without hard
point or grating. Actuation force shall be monitored for comparison with the
maximum allowable torque value.
Hydraulic pressure shall be monitored and recorded on valves fitted with a hydraulic
actuator (maximum pressure 140 Bar (14000 KPa)). Closing time shall also be
recorded and must not exceed 60 seconds (82 seconds on DN300).
Test Media:

After pressure testing is complete ensure that the final sign off is completed on the
WORC Quality Record Sheet.

Test Equipment:
To be tested in the Cryogenic Test Area.
Applicable to:Cryogenic pressure and operability testing of Stainless Steel LNG Globe and Check
valves. Maximum Working Pressure 10 Bar (1000 kPa).
Test requirements:Valves may only be tested to this specification after having passed testing to Q128.
Test valve in accordance with SOP LNG 002.
Prior to commencing testing the valve shall be submerged in Liquid Nitrogen for
sufficient time to ensure that the whole valve has reached a temperature of -196C. The
level of Liquid Nitrogen must be held above the Bonnet during the soaking and testing
period, and any sealing Glands must be positioned above the vapour line.
The following tests shall be performed on 10% of each valve type and size (minimum of
1 off):[Note that any Third Party witnessing of this test is at the discretion of the Class Society
or customer requirement]

SCOPE

This procedure specifies the pressure test requirements for Float Level Isolation Valves.

TEST MEDIA

2.1 Unless otherwise specified on the drawing, shell and seat tests shall be performed
using clean mains water or gas as specified in the procedure.

3. PRESSURE AND OPERABILITY TESTING

3.1. Prior to assembly, components shall be cleaned to contract requirements.

3.2. Valves shall not be painted or otherwise coated in any way prior to the pressure test.

3.3. Test equipment shall not subject the valve to external stresses or loadings which
may affect the results.

3.4. Each valve assembly shall pass the following ambient temperature tests:-

3.4.1. Shell strength test using water at 15-bar pressure for a period of 3 minutes.
There shall be no visible leakage detected through the shell during the test
period.

3.4.2. Following the hydraulic shell test, the valve shall be drained of fluid.

3.4.3. Shell tightness test using gas at 11-bar pressure for a period of 3 minutes.
There shall be no visible leakage detected using leak-detection fluid during the
test period.

3.4.4. Seat test using gas at 1-bar pressure for a period of 30 seconds. There shall
be no visible leakage detected using leak-detection fluid during the test period.

3.4.5. Operability test: open the disc against a pressure of 0.5-bar, the valve shall be
subjected to two full stroke actuations (open-close-open-close-open).
Actuations shall be smooth without hard point or grating.

3.5. The above tests (except the shell strength test) shall be witnessed by the
Classification Society on all valves.
