OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The study is descriptive in nature and tries to analyze and study the Indian gold
loan
market.The study attempts to achieve the following objectives:
1. To study the consumer perception towards gold loans.
2. To explore the reasons for choosing gold loan instead of the conventional loans.
3. To study the lending practice of NBFCs(gold loan company).
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
For the present study gold loan companies operating are selected, some of the gold
loan
companies operating in thane region are as under
Muthoot finance gold loan company
Mannapuram finance gold loan company
Magma gold loan
Sampling procedure
A random sampling technique is used.
Unit of observation and sampling size
The unit of observation is the 3 gold loan companies in Thane region, total size
considered was 50 from each company(50*3) = 150
Data collection
Primary data
Pre coded questionnaire was designed in such a way to meet the requirement of the
study personal interviews and personal discussion was also be adhered
Secondary data

RBIs bulletins , publication of Indian banks, association of gold loan ,Indian institute
of bankers ,Indian banking association,NBFCs journal, various published and
unpublished literature and websites.
SUGGESTIONS AND CONCLUSION
Need to thoroughly review the practices followed by NBFCs
Ensure transparent communication of loan terms and condition.
Enticing advertisements by gold loan NBFCs should be avoided.
Customer complaints and grievances redressal system must be effective.
Auction procedure must be made transparent.
Monitoring the implementation of the Fair Practices Code.

Objectives of the study
This study is descriptive in nature

and aims to deepen the understanding


of the Indian gold loan
market. The study also tries to know
the difference between the conventional
personal loans and gold loans.
Through this study, an attempt is
made to know the various purposes
for which clients acquire gold loans.
Specifically the study tries:
1. To gather knowledge about the
Indian gold loan market
2. To find the reasons for choosing
gold loans over conventional personal
loans
3. To know the purposes for availing
gold loans by the respondents
Methodology
The study uses both primary and
secondary data. The primary data
has been collected from 100 respondents
on the basis of convenient sampling.
The samples were collected
from Thrissur town. The secondary
data was collected from published
sources such as journals, periodicals
and websites.

Findings
1. 67.5 per cent of the respondents
were male
2. 46 per cent of the respondents
were from the age group 31-50
3. Educational qualification for
majority of the respondents was post
graduation
4. 46 per cent of the respondents
are private sector employees
followed by government and semi government
employees
5. 59 per cent of the respondents
are from the monthly income group
below ` 25,000 and 29 per cent are
from the income group ` 25,00050,000.
6. Majority of the respondents (42.5
per cent) prefer banks for availing gold
loans, 38 per cent prefer NBFCs and
18 per cent prefer other sources.
7. Gold loans were taken by
the majority for their consumption
smoothing (32 per cent) and 28 per
cent for meeting medical expenses.
