State-Of-The-Art Pre-Wiring & Assembly

Wiring and assembly of Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) is very important. One of the major rule to
follow is called the "50cm rule".As per this rule, detailed in the IEC 61643-12 standard, the total length
of cable between 1 phase and the earth, through the SPD, should not be more than 50cm in order to
keep the Up (residual voltage) value as low as possible. if its not respected, equipments may get
damaged. INDELEC Surge Protection Cabinets are wired and assembled by professional as per
IEC61643-12 standards and strictly follow all rules given.

Protection Cabinet

Easy Control & Maintenance

INDELEC Surge Protection cabinets include Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs), thermal disconnection
mechanisms with corresponding indicators, as well as remote contact signalizations. It enables
users to ascertain the operating conditions at all time and eventually replace SPD modules easily
maintaining the continuity of service. Control and maintenance activities are therefore highly
simplified.
. Limit Induction effects
If SPDs are directly installed in electrical panels, an occurring surge can generate instabilities in the
network and damage equipments. This is due to the induction effect created by the surge in the other
lines located in the panels. Hence, it is HIGHLY recommended to install SPDs in a separate cabinet.
INDELEC Surge Protection Cabinets offer this additional protection since they isolate surges and
prevent from induction effects.

Prevent from Short Circuits

INDELEC Surge Protection include MCBs as back-up protection preventing the network from any
short circuit.

Tests in Laboratory
All INDELEC Surge Protection Devices have been successfully
tested in Blitzcshutz & EMV Technologiezentrum (BET) laboratory in
Menden, Germany. Test Reports are available on request.

Common (C1) or All Mode (C2) protection wiring

Common mode protection (C1):
the SPD are wired between Phases
and Earth in addition to Neutral
and Earth.
All Mode - Common + Differential
protection (C2): each SPD is wired
between Phase and Neutral and a
special module is wired between
Neutral and Earth. This type of
C1
wiring gives an enhanced protection.

C2

Surge Protection Coordination

Tests are carried out with standardized wave forms defined in

IEC 61643-1 standard which aim to represent transient overvoltage effects on the surge protection devices.

Time (uS)

In order to gain maximum protection efficiency, it may

be necessary to create a "coordination diagram"
requiring a primary SPD level at the main switchboard
with C-DGV400 or C-DGM400, and a secondary SPD
level close to the sensitive equipment with C-DGT400
or C-DGX400.
Coordination is required in both of following cases:
1) Highly sensitive equipment to be protected
2) Extended distance greater than 30m of wire
between primary and secondary SPD level
