Station II Summer Camp

The Bloomfield Recreation Department is offering a summer program for children with special needs
called Station II. The programming will have two different levels: one will be a self-contained program
and the other will follow an inclusion model. Our camp schedules are designed to peak a variety of
interests and enhance social skills. Dont let your child miss the opportunity to make new friends, have
fun and make lasting childhood memories. If interested please register at the Recreation Department as
soon as possible!

Camp Dates:
Session 1 June 29th July 10th (No camp on July 3rd)
Session 2- July 13th July 24th
Session 3- July 27 August 7th
STATION II INCLUSION (Ages 4-14) The campers will be with an age appropriate group at Forest
Glen or Demarest. Parents are requested to sign up for this program if their children can work and play
at least 50% of the time within the group setting and need a shadow counselor for the rest of the time.
STATION II SELF CONTAINED This program will offer the same schedule as the other program but
with a larger staff to camper ratio and with adaptive activities. For first time campers, it is an excellent
opportunity to learn the routine of the program and feel comfortable in a play environment. The
program will be offered to all age groups with campers grouped according to age. Each program will
look to provide some mainstream activities with age appropriate peers. This program runs from 9:00
AM to 2:00 PM at Demarest ONLY!
This year will be a very exciting one for all of us. We will appreciate your help in understanding the
unique needs of all of your children. Please pick the program you believe will best suit your child. We
want all of them to have a great summer!

Canteen and Horizons are both social programs for the special needs community
that run on Friday nights from October to May and follow the school calendar.

Canteens were successful this year. The objective of the Canteen program is to create an environment for
students to feel comfortable being themselves and to socialize with others. The students enjoyed all the
activities. We participated in a variety of activities. While in our home base at the Carteret School we play
basketball, karaoke and board games. We also went on adventures to Seaside Heights Casino Pier, the Circle
of Friends holiday dance and out to eat. We hope to continue the success again in the fall!

The Horizons group recently finished another wonderful year together! The group participated in a variety of
activities such as going to the movies, bowling, the Circle of Friends Holiday party, Monster Mini golf and trying
out a bunch of restaurants. We have made special trips this year to Medieval Times, the Meadowlands
Racetrack and a Montclair Jackals baseball game. In addition the group saw plays at Montclair State University
and the Papermill Playhouse. We have a great time together and are already looking forward to the fall!
