A. CREATING CONTOURS FROM A SURFACE
As you create contours from a surface, use a contour style that controls how the contour and contour labels display. For
example, a contour style controls

ROAD PROFILES
A. WORK PROCEDURE:
1. Create existing surface considering the existing contours. (TerrainTerrain model explorerCreate
New Surface ContoursAdd contour data)
2. Create centreline of the roads.
3. Create alignments. (Alignments Define from polyline)
4. Create station labels. (AlignmentsCreate station labels)
5. Create profile of existing conditions. (ProfilesProfile settingsSamplingSurfacesSet current
surfacesExisting groundSample from surfaceCreate profileFull profile)
6. Start creating proposed vertical profile based on requirement of cut and fill (Ideally cut and fill should
be balanced). Also check for the requirements of client if any.(ProfilesEdit vertical

Keep the proposed levels same for all the road intersections.
Consider transverse slope in vertical profile if required.
Give label slopes for tangents and curve details for intersection of two tangents.
Curves should have minimum length of 15 m.
Create sheets of drawing showing plan and profile as per desired scale.

X. CONCLUSION
Due to the various advantageous features use computer applications become essential part civil engineering. They help
civil engineers not only to design but also to maintain civil engineer structure. Now a days software programmes are
treated as tools for completing project within the time efficiently. The software we have discussed in detail auto land
desktop is most useful design and drafting tool. This software can be used by professionals working in land development
industries, surveyors and civil engineers. Definitely it has some limitation, but benefits do outweigh the shortcomings.
