Annihilation

At last Sabinus decided to seek safety for himself and the other soldiers from
Ambiorix. However Cotta, who had been wounded by a sling-stone full in his
face, refused to go to the enemy's headquarters and so persevered. When
Sabinus approached the remaining tribunes of the soldiers and the first line of
Ambiorix's centurions: he ordered them to leave their weapons, and he was
ordering them to make lines again. From there, while he was talking about their
conditions for peace, having been surrounded they were gradually killed. When
this was done the enemies raised a war cry and made an attack on us. There
Cotta was killed fighting with the greatest part of soldiers. They rescued the
remaining few in the camp: of whom the standard-bearer L. Petrosidius, after he
was attacked relentlessly by many enemies, threw the standard inside the
rampart; there he was killed very bravely fighting in front of the camp. They
resisted the attack with difficulty until night; despairing for their safety at night
everyone
A few having escaped from the battle in an unsteady journey through the woods
reached T. Labienus in the winter quarters and made him more certain of their
achievement.

could not be taken away.

at night. They also killed everyone without exception because they feared
for their safety at night.

battle and made an unsteady journey through the woods to the winter
quarters.
7. Cotta is a very resilient and headstrong person who refuses to give up and
is diehard in carrying out his words. He is also very patriotic when he
understands that there is a reasonable chance that he will die for his
country and fellow soldiers.
8. Yes this can be considered a disaster because so many soldiers were killed
because of a naive decision made by Sabinus. This could have been
avoided if Sabinus had planned for some level of caution, however this
potential hazard was clearly not accounted for.

9. circumventus-having been surrounded. elapsi-escaped. Elapsi is a


deponent verb and being a deponent verb it means that the subject
carried out the action.
10.noctu desperata salute- despairing for their safety at night.
