migration

project show proposition for P/ART 2015

Migration is the movement from one place to another with the intention of settling
temporarily or permanently in the new location. Primarily we think on Humans since recent
terrible tragedies invade our conscience, (for example last week in Italy coasts) but it is
happening in all the world, constantly: for wars, for hunger, for fear. I am a migrant my self, I
am a Catalan migrated to the centre of Europe, living in Poland and in Germany, trying to
find a better place to develop my projects and live happy with my family. Its difficult
travelling in places where you have to deal with different languages and starting new
people networks. yes, I am a foreigner where ever I go. Despite all I feel very fortunate since
I have European citizenship and I join the support of family and friends. Millions of people
are not so lucky. Too many of those are dying every day on the way, with no-one who would
ask for them. Ten years ago I designed and illustrated a poem and ornithology book. The
book was about the seasonal migration of birds that carries high costs in predation and

mortality, including from hunting by humans. Migration is driven primarily by availability of

food. It occurs mainly in the northern hemisphere, where birds are funnelled on to specific
routes by natural barriers such as the Mediterranean Sea. Paradoxically the same barriers for
the humans that cant fly. I wish to remember all the souls of those people that couldnt fly.
Reincarnating them into beautiful and free shadows of migrating birds. Through all around
the rooms, on the free walls, on the ceilings. In one room there will be a selection of the
hundreds of draws I've been performing from 2001 to 2015 during my constant migrations
over Europe, drawing from natural and on real time the lost view of the passengers on train,
bus, ship and plane travels. All sketched figures are random people travelling to different
places for different purposes, all ages and nations. The artworks are fully improvised. None
of the travellers were aware of being drawn which was the intention of the artist, so that the
models would stay in their natural positions.

It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue,

and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium
through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.

Ive been a visual artist since I was a child. Enfant

terrible at my early school, showing adult draw skills
at 6 years old. The traditional catholic school with the
Spanish Dictatorship rules didnt know much about
how to deal with me, and they repressed my
development. From the age of 14 and after several
years of changing schools, I found calm in
technological studies, I graduated with a
Technician's Specialist Degree, Branch of Industrial
Mastery Delineation, then studied Industrial Design
Engineering, then Master of Arts and two postgraduates (one thesis in process to be defended). I
am grateful of the long technological pre-art studies,
they taught me how to achieve any project I can
imagine :)
Currently I am living and working between
Germany, Poland and Catalonia. Deeply involved in
several art projects with international artists. Ive built
my career in a variety of roles and industries,
directing several project teams, multidisciplinary
professionals, freelance talent and across multiple
geographies and languages. Assembling art visions
in art and technology. I am a cultural sponge,
attentive to and appreciative of detail, but who also
gets the bigger picture and I make continuous
education a cornerstone of my life.
