CHAPTER 3
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
3.1Concept of women entrepreneurship
Smt.M.G.K.M.Sangli.

Page 12

BBA III

Shivaji University, Kolhapur

Entrepreneurship plays an important role in the growth of any society.

Development of entrepreneurship culture & qualitative business development services are the
major requirement for industrial growth. Entrepreneurship emerges from an individual creative
spirit into long-term business, ownership, employment creation, Capital Formation & economic
security. Entrepreneurial are essentials for industrialization & for alleviation of mass
unemployment & poverty. As technology speed up lives, women are an emerging economic
force, which cannot be neglected by the policy makers. The worlds modern democratic economy
depends on the participation of both seves lrene nativided has observed that Global markets &
women are not often used in the same sentence, but increasingly statistics show that women have
economic clout most visibly as entrepreneurs & most powerfully as consumer. Today, women in
advanced market economics own more than 25% of all business & women owned business in
Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe & Latin America are growing rapidly. In some region of the world.
India the actual participation of women in income generating activities is quite
unsatisfactory, only 8% of small scale-manufacturing units are owned & operated by women.
Freedom depends on economic condition even more than political. If a women is
not economically free & self-earnings, she will have to depend on her husband or someone ales,
& depends are never free. These were the ideas of pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, first prime minister
of India. Which vividly highlight the importance of economic independence of women? In
childhood a female must be subjected to her father in youth to her husband, when her lord is
dead to her son, women must never be independent.
Swami Vivekananda stressing the need for the girl education said I ask you
earnestly to open girls school in every village. If women are educated.. Culture, knowledge,
power & devotion awaken in the land. That nation which does not respect women has never
become great, nor will ever in future The principle reason why our race has so much
degenerated is that we have no respect for these living images of shakti.
Women owned business are becoming increasingly important in the economics of
almost all countries. To the US economic, they contribute more than $250 billion annually &
create new business at two to three times the rate of their male counterparts.

Smt.M.G.K.M.Sangli.
