Congratulations!
Youve just taken a step towards making your dreams a reality. Most people wish and
talk about their dreams but dont act on their dreams. Just the fact that you are investing
in yourself shows you are doing something to get you closer to your dream.

Zig Ziglar says that you have to be before you can do and you have to do before you can
have. By investing in yourself you are becoming more capable of reaching your dream.
Youre stacking the odds in your favor.

This Book Could Change Your Life!

(but only if you apply its information)

Here are five tips to help you turn this information into habits that will change
your life:

1. Read this book more than once. Ive read both Think and Grow Rich and
The Magic of Thinking Big every year for the last 20 years! The more times
you read a book, the more you become like the book.

2. Underline and make notes. Have a pen and highlighter in your hand.
Underlining specific lines and paragraphs will triple your retention rate. Write
your own thoughts in the margins and own this book.

3. Re-read your underlines. Re-read your key items over and over.

4. Apply the material immediately. Doing so will help you understand the
material better. Dont try to be perfect. Done is better than perfect.

5. Prioritize what you want to learn. Select 1-3 things from the book, apply them
faithfully and make them a habit.

A Word from the Author

My Dad always said to me, If you read about the lives of people you admire, youll
learn what works and what doesnt work in life, because success leaves clues.

That was some of the best advice Ive ever had. Over the years Ive read hundreds of
biographies, always looking for clues that would help me achieve my dreams and
ambitions. Along the way I learned that successful people think differently. They have
conditioned their minds to always focus on the possibilities instead of the obstacles.
Successful people think big and then they make very wise choices. Because when it
comes right down to it, success is a choice.

In order to consistently make the choices that lead to success, winners use two types of
courage the courage to take action and the courage to endure to never quit regardless
of the circumstances. Understanding that they are bigger than their circumstances gives
them the courage to succeed.

You can learn to think and act like successful people do. Once you start thinking big,
youll start succeeding big, and thats what I want to help you do with this book.

If you consistently and persistently apply the principles in this book, before long youll
be able to write your own success story.

I was never a great athlete. In fact, I was always the last kid picked for sports in school.
But I used the principles in this book to go from being a bench-warmer in my college
soccer team to an Olympic athlete only four years later. If these principles worked for
me, they will work for you.

Once you start winning battles on the way to your dream do me a favor. Shoot me an
email and share your victories with me. Your victories will fuel my victories.

Success Secret #1
Make a Decision to Become an Achiever
Pursue your dream. Make your life a masterpiece by being willing to pay the
price of success. Achievers know there is a price to be paid and are willing
to sacrifice, struggle, and work hard with no guarantees of success in order
to realize their dreams.

Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached
in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.

Take Advantage of Anything
That Will Help You Reach Your Goal
Successful people are constantly looking for anything they can use to gain
an advantage. Successful people look ahead in order to position themselves
to be in the best place when opportunity strikes. Start thinking ahead. By

Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude
Your attitude is simply your frame of mind. How you see things. Its whether

Make the Law Of Averages Work for You
The more you fail, the greater the chance that you will ultimately succeed.
You can actually fail yourself to success. Because every time you fail, you
gain experience. In my case, I crashed my way to the top. For two years I

Believe In Yourself and Believe
You Can Achieve Your Dream
If you believe something is possible, and your attitude is that you are willing
to do whatever it takes for however long it takes to get the job done, then
success is just a matter of time. You can increase your self belief by the
books you read, the CDs you listen to, and the people you associate with. If
you put good things in your mind, you will become stronger and you will

Nip Negative Thoughts in the Bud
The biggest challenge on the way to success is mastering ourselves. No
matter what you are doing, you will always have times when you doubt

want to do things that will keep you from your goals. Constantly ask
yourself, Whats the next thing I can do right now to get me closer to my

The Race
Whenever I start to hang my head in front of failures face,
my downward fall is broken by the memory of a race.
A childrens race, young boys, young men; how I remember well,
excitement sure, but also fear, it wasnt hard to tell.

They all lined up so full of hope, each thought to win that race
or tie for first, or if not that, at least take second place.
Their parents watched from off the side, each cheering for their son,
and each boy hoped to show his folks that he would be the one.

The whistle blew and off they flew, like chariots of fire,
to win, to be the hero there, was each young boys desire.
One boy in particular, whose dad was in the crowd,
was running in the lead and thought My dad will be so proud.

But as he speeded down the field and crossed a shallow dip,

the little boy who thought hed win, lost his step and slipped.
Trying hard to catch himself, his arms flew everyplace,
and midst the laughter of the crowd he fell flat on his face.

The Little Blue Book of Success

37

TheOlympicSpeaker.com

As he fell, his hope fell too; he couldnt win it now.

Humiliated, he just wished to disappear somehow.
But as he fell his dad stood up and showed his anxious face,
which to the boy so clearly said, Get up and win that race!

He quickly rose, no damage done, behind a bit thats all,

and ran with all his mind and might to make up for his fall.
So anxious to restore himself, to catch up and to win,
his mind went faster than his legs. He slipped and fell again.

He wished that he had quit before with only one disgrace.

Im hopeless as a runner now, I shouldnt try to race.
But through the laughing crowd he searched and found his fathers face
with a steady look that said again, Get up and win that race!

So he jumped up to try again, ten yards behind the last.

If Im to gain those yards, he thought, Ive got to run real fast!
Exceeding everything he had, he regained eight, then ten...
but trying hard to catch the lead, he slipped and fell again.

Defeat! He lay there silently. A tear dropped from his eye.

Theres no sense running anymore! Three strikes Im out! Why try?
Ive lost, so whats the use? he thought. Ill live with my disgrace.
But then he thought about his dad, who soon hed have to face.

The Little Blue Book of Success

38

TheOlympicSpeaker.com

Get up, an echo sounded low, you havent lost at all,

for all you have to do to win is rise each time you fall.
Get up! the echo urged him on, Get up and take your place!
You were not meant for failure here! Get up and win that race!

So, up he rose to run once more, refusing to forfeit,

and he resolved that win or lose, at least he wouldnt quit.
So far behind the others now, the most hed ever been,
still he gave it all he had and ran like he could win.

Three times hed fallen stumbling, three times he rose again.

Too far behind to hope to win, he still ran to the end.
They cheered another boy who crossed the line and won first place,
head high and proud and happy -- no falling, no disgrace.

But, when the fallen youngster crossed the line, in last place,
the crowd gave him a greater cheer for finishing the race.
And even though he came in last with head bowed low, unproud,
you would have thought hed won the race, to listen to the crowd.

And to his dad he sadly said, I didnt do so well.

To me, you won, his father said. You rose each time you fell.
And now when things seem dark and bleak and difficult to face,
the memory of that little boy helps me in my own race.

The Little Blue Book of Success

39

TheOlympicSpeaker.com

For all of life is like that race, with ups and downs and all.
And all you have to do to win is rise each time you fall.
And when depression and despair shout loudly in my face,
another voice within me says, Get up and win that race!

People in skid row have something in common. They all had a major
challenge that made them quit on life and they are eager to tell you all about

Successful people react differently when they get knocked down. They

3 Ideas by themselves are useless. Ideas acted upon are priceless.
4 If you act now and face your fear the fear will disappear.
5 Dont wait until you feel like doing something. Taking immediate action
will create the feeling to act even more.
6 Dont waste time getting ready to do something. Get started right away.

Anyone can do nothing.

You Will Become What You Think You Are
You get the kind of treatment you think you deserve because others see in
you what you see in yourself. If you think you are inferior, you will act
inferior and others will treat you that way.

How you think determines how you act and how you act determines how
others will react to you. The more respect you have for yourself, the more
respect others will have for you.

Change your thoughts and youll change your world.

Dont Make Excuses
Successful people dont make excuses. They could, but they dont. An
excuse is an alibi that helps someone save face when they are not producing
the results they should be producing. Nobody wants to hear your excuses.
They just want to know what you intend to do to get the results you should
be getting.

Excuses are a waste of time. Successful people dont waste time.

They use their time trying to figure out ways to be more successful.

Belief Gives You the Power to Take Action
Belief is the first step to success. Even believing something is possible is a
good thing. Once you believe, you can start working on figuring out how
you will accomplish your goal.

Wishful thinking has no power. The how will I do it always comes from
belief. When you believe, you attract helpers because all of a sudden they
start having confidence in you. Belief determines what you will accomplish
in life.

Man is literally what he thinks.

Fall in Love with the Process
When I was fifteen, I had a clear vision of myself winning the Mr. Universe
contest and was driven by that thought. It was a very spiritual thing in a way,
because I had such faith in the route, the path, that it was never a question in
my mind that I would make it.

Driven by his vision of becoming Mr. Universe, he worked out five hours a
day, loving every minute of it, because he felt that each time he went to the
gym, he was one step closer to winning the competition. At age 20, Arnold
Schwarzenegger became the youngest man the Mr. Universe title.

If you will trust the process, fall in love with the process, and consistently
and persistently work the process, you will realize your dream.

Take Advantage of Opportunities
Opportunities are like waves. You have to start paddling to catch the wave or
else you lose. Winners dont hesitate. They take advantage of opportunities.

There is a tide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to
fortune; omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in
miseries and we must take the current when it serves,
or lose our ventures.

Choose the Right Arena for You
You will be successful once you find an arena you are suited to play in. An
arena you can excel in. Most people are playing in the wrong arena. By
chance, they have chained themselves to bad jobs, bad relationships, or bad
association. If this describes you, then you need to break free. You need to
break those chains that hold you back and start playing in an arena designed
for you.

Partner Up With Key People to
Reach Your Dreams
Dont ever let the lack of know-how or lack of resources keep you from
pursuing your dream. When you lack know-how of resources, look for key
people you can partner up with. People who have the skills and resources
you need to move forward.

Teamwork makes the dream work.

Your Attitude Determined Your Altitude
Studies of successful people have proven that attitude accounts for 80% of
their success and aptitude for only 20%.

What is attitude? Its thinking like a winner. Expecting to win. Being willing
to pay the price. Deciding to make it happen. Believing you can do it.
Positive expectancy. Confidence coupled with a strong work ethic.

Start Making More Decisions
Leaders make decisions all the time. Followers make suggestions. Making
suggestions is easy because it requires no action or fear of failure. Making
decisions is tough. It takes guts because there is always something at stake.

Start making more decisions. Start taking more action. The more you do, the
more of a leader youll be, and the more youll advance both personally and
professionally.

Great decision making comes from trusting and following

your intuition and your gut feelings.

Dont Second-Guess Yourself
Its easy to look back and see where you might have done something
differently. As long as you are looking for ways to improve your
performance, its O.K. to look back. But dont waste time second-guessing
yourself. Your past results were based on your past experience. If things
dont work out, use your new experience to get better results next time.

Self- confidence is the first requirement for great undertakings.

Prepare In Order To Win
Set your sights on a goal but focus on the preparation on what you must do
and think to accomplish your goal. Winning is a by-product of your
preparation and effort. Focus on the effort and preparation and your results
will take care of themselves.

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Always Play Full Out
Total effort is what counts. As long as you do your best, there is no shame.
Whether in your job, in the community, or in your personal life, always do
your best. You cant control being better than someone else. But you can
control trying to be the best that you can be. Personal success comes from
total effort. If you do less than your best you have failed yourself.

Peace of mind comes from knowing you did your best.

Redefine Failure
If you know in your heart that you did the best of which you were capable,
there is no such thing as failure. That is why full effort is so important. You

Rubens Rules for Success

You will never achieve anything great in life until you start believing that
something inside you is bigger than the circumstances you face.
You can become great by making a decision to pursue your dream in life and
by refusing to quit.
Every success you've ever had or will ever have is the product of your
courage to act and the courage to endure.
Success is not about how much talent you have. Its about what you do with
the talent you do have.
Successful people love the battle, the challenge and the journey. Its about
knowing that you did your best.
Youll always go further with the help of a coach or mentor.
If you do whatever it takes for however long it takes, success is only a
matter of time.
