Soybeans Planted

80

Percent

Farmers were finishing up the spring planting season with the

remaining soybeans, cucumbers, and tomato transplants. In Northern
and Central Indiana, some corn and soybean plants turned yellow
due to the soaked fields and poor spring planting conditions.
Previously ponded areas dried enough to replant. Cool and cloudy
conditions delayed hay cuttings, but did not affect growth. Livestock
was reported to be in good condition. Other activities for the week
included spraying fields, side dressing corn and wheat, hauling
grain, and mowing roadsides.

Corn Emerged

80

Percent

Cool weather and spotty rains throughout the week ending June 7
slowed crop growth, according to the USDA, NASS, Great Lakes
Region. Most of the state received little rainfall, but the below
average temperatures kept fields damp leading to delays. The
northern region experienced mild temperatures, while the South had
hot and humid days. There were 4.5 days available for fieldwork this
week.

Special Note:
NASS is currently conducting its annual June surveys on crops and livestock. During the first two weeks of June, NASS will be contacting
producers across the country to determine planted acres for small grains and row crops, grain storage capacity and stocks on hand, livestock
inventories, and other agricultural use. We are also asking pork producers about this years farrowings, pig crop and current inventory. The
responses will provide the foundation for 2015 acreage and hog estimates. All participating farmers should respond. Your information
matters!
