Reasoning: Number series; letter series; codes; Relationships; classification. Understanding the structure of
arguments; Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning; Verbal analogies:

Verbal classification; Reasoning Logical Diagrams:
Simple diagrammatic

relationship; Analytical Reasoning. Data Interpretation: Quantitative and

Elements of ecology; structures and functions of an ecosystem; producers, consumers and decomposers;
ecological succession, food webs and ecological pyramids;

Renewable & non-renewable resources, forest, water, mineral exploitation and their uses, Natural sources
and associated problems; Energy flow in ecosystems, carbon cycle, oxygen cycle, nitrogen cycle, energy
cycle, integration of cycles in nature. Climate change, global warming, acid rain, depletion of ozone layer
etc.
Air Pollution (15 Marks)
Meteorology and natural purification processes. Atmospheric composition, air pollution, sources, primary
and secondary pollutants, effects of pollutants on human, global implications of air pollution, Noise
pollution, sources, effects and standards. Pollutants dispersion.
Water Pollution (15 Marks)
Physical chemical and microbiological
water quality parameters and tlleir significance,
major water
pollutants, its origin and impacts on human and water bodies, water borne diseases and their control,
drinking water quality criteria and standards. Different waste water sources - domestic and storm water,
variations in flow rates, hydraulics of sewers, design of waste water collection systems. Physical, chemical

of waste waters, typical characteristics

population equivalent, effluent discharge standards.
Solid Wastes Management (15 Marks)
Solid wastes, causes, effects and control measures of urban and industrial wastes, physical and chemical
characteristics of solid waste. Generation, collection and disposal of solid waste, solid wastes treatment
technologies.
Noise Pollution (10 Marks)
definition of decibel, sound power level, sound intensity level and sound pressure level; measurement of
noise level; basic concept of community noise, acceptable outdoor and indoor noise levels; effects of noise.
