this form.
Once this assessment has been signed by you, a technician, your project supervisor
and safety health officer; an assigned reference number will be given, please submit:

the original document of this assessment to TECHNICIAN IN-CHARGED [TIC] of

main laboratory used; to be kept in the laboratory safety file.

If more than one laboratory used in this project, submit a copy of this document to
the TIC to be kept in the laboratory safety file.

Ensure this assessment is resubmitted for approval when work out of office hour.

Ensure this assessment is read and signed annually by all concerned.

Ensure this assessment is reviewed annually by the project supervisor.
Remember that anything that you put in this form you must follow!

Precautions in handling

Emergency action

(if gloves required state type)

in the event of spillage etc.

-Proper PPE including face

masks, gloves and goggles
should be worn througout
handling.

Precautions to be taken
Always diconnect power from the
instrument before attempting any
closing operations. Remove any
cuvette that still in instrument
and dispose them and their
contents using an approved
disposal method.
Always diconnect power from the

closing operations. Remove any
cuvettes that still in instrument
and dispose them and their
contents using an approved

Avoid measuring harsh chemicals
such as highly caustic solutions
(e.g. pH Up and silica additives),
or concentrated solutions such as
raw nutrient. Avoid placing the
electrode in oily solutions as they
can coat the electrode. Filter
water samples that are potentially
a problem (i.e. greasy) prior to
performing a pH measurement.
Clean the electrode regularly
using an electrode cleaner

NOTE:
ALL EQUIPMENTS USED ELECTRICAL POWER WILL HAVE ELECTRICAL HAZARDS.

7a. Specific risk assessment for procedure and precautions to be taken

During preparation of reagent solutions there is a LOW risk of contact with hazardous
chemicals if all precautionary measures stated in Table 5a and b (handling) are followed.
Extra care must be taken to avoid chemical spillage.
PPE must be worn at all times.
Work in a well-ventilated area (i.e. fume cupboard).
Turn on electrical equipment ONLY after all components have been connected, and the
cables checked for any damage.

After following all the above precautions the overall risk assessment for this procedure is
LOW.
