Koetter Museum

Edinburgh, which is one of the most important city in Scotland and also in the
urban artifacts world, reveals the biggest inventions, implements and the great art
work which are being held under the roof of the koetter museum of Scotland houses.
The purpose was achieved by using industrial materials which helped redesigning the
existing building so it can be visible to the viewers' eyes.

According to the facts mentioned above the designers wanted to connect the
museum to the city so it can communicate with the biggest artifact which is
Edinburgh by itself. It was decided that the building from the Royal Mile street will
be a perfect host for the function that they have to implement. The original building's
effect was the opposite of what they wanted in the new one. They wanted to
transform from an introvert cage, fortress, into an extrovert open space construction.
There are areas inside the building that communicate with areas out of the building
with major importance for the city. The museum had to be also a part of Scotland but
also a part of the minimum scale of Edinburgh and this raised a lot of questions about
how to make it being perceived like that. They didn't want an obvious building as a
result.

In addition, my opinion is that I agree that the museum has to communicate with the
entire city how the architect claims that he should do, because in this museum the
purpose was to integrate the most significant artifacts. Choosing the royal mile as
host for the museum it was a outstanding decision because the building and Scotland
are related to each other from many aspects.
However, the second thing to elaborate about is the way that the metamorphoses has
occurred, breaking the shell of an old dull building into a much more revealing
space, which helped making the connection between the city and the museum much
easier.
The third thing which is the most critical phase of the transformation that I consider
was hard to achieve, because the museum is a part of Scotland which can be seen as
a burden for it while it has to conceal it's identity so it can be merged with the
smallest part of the city.
Finally, in conclusion, I consider that the architects raised questions that no one
thought about before, and found out brilliant ideas that made this project one of a
kind. They managed how to open an introvert space. I ought to say that even the
museum is an artifact and a piece of art by itself.
