Administration ally Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday urged President Benigno Aquino
III and the Supreme Court to suspend the implementation of the K to 12 education program.
Much has been said about K-12 and how it can change Filipino lives forever. Still,
misconceptions abound, endangering the very future of the country. About time theyre rounded
up and finally put to rest
MOTION : K-12 PROGRAM SHOULD NOT BE SUSPENDED
GOVERNMENT TEAM: OPPOSING TEAM:
GOVERNMENT TEAM we're as the government team and we're stand for the motion given.
First AFFIRMATIVE : good afternoon to the respected speaker, cautious time keeper,
honourable judges, members of the opposite team and members of the floor. Now we as today's
proposition strongly
believe that this is true but
let us first define
some important terms in this debate. According to Deped itself K12 (spoken as "k twelve", "k
through twelve", or "k to twelve") is a term for the sum of primary and secondary education. It is
used in the United States,Canada, South Korea, Turkey, the Philippines, and Australia The K to
12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary
education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School
[SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners,
and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and
entrepreneurship.. Today as the first speaker of the government team strongly believe with the
motion K-12 shouldnt be suspended. today I will be the first speaker of the government team
and will present one argument,.................. as the second speaker will give two arguments
and ........................ will rebut all the arguments presented by the opposite team. K-12 education
is an innovative education system. This area of education has a dominance over the
conventional educational systems as it puts more weight on thinking and reaching own selfexplanatory conclusions.
The way of teaching here is completely different and phenomenal. Teachers generally follow the
tactic of asking students to work on a lot of assignments since it develops an intellectual, yet
interesting learning habit. In reality, this method helps the students in revising what has been

taught previously. In K-12 education system, all the students are given individual attention and
hence they understand their subjects in a more practical way. The role of a teacher here is just
to guide them in the right way and provide them with learning opportunities. What really
happens is that, the individual discovers his own learning capacity and success depends on the
thinking ability of the student.
The classroom activities might be similar to what is being practiced in a public school where
students go and get their notes and submit records but the key difference is that her in K-12
classes, the students are encouraged to bring about their personal thoughts and visions.
Students enroll themselves in different forums and educational clubs where they get to discuss
many points for the same topic and get different views. The teachers here contribute so much
as to turning every discussion into a positive note cooperating with the students.
The traditional learning styles have their own merits, but this new and innovative education
strategy is superior in that. It helps the students work individualistically and find solutions on
their own. This strategy makes students self-determining, reliable and indulgent. It also
improves the relation between the teacher and students and brings a warm classroom
atmosphere. Such a harmonious atmosphere can create masterminds who, in the long run, can
become assets not only to the school but to the society as a whole.

1ST NEGATIVE : Some filipino disagrees to the "k-to-12" program. Some doesn't want this
program to be implemented in the country,and our team is strongly disagree to the debate
motion today....OK YOUR DEFINITION SAYS IT ALL, K-12 USED BY OTHER COUNTRIES?..
WE ALL KNOW THAT THEY LIKE TO COPY OTHER COUNTRIES PROVEN FROM
REMAKING KOREAN DRAMAS, COPYING THEIR MUSICS, STYLE...And the list goes on SO
I SUPPOSE THAT K-12 IS JUST A PART OF PHs COLONIAL MENTALITY.BY JUST
LISTENING TO YOUR DEFINITION I PITY ALL THE STUDENTS WHO WILL SUFFER TO
THIS KIND OF SYSTEM 10 YEARS BECAME 12 YEARS ? YOU SAID WHAT?? SUFFICIENT
TIME FOR MASTERY .... DID YOU MEAN MASTERY OF HOW TO CONTROL YOURSELF
FROM SLEEPING BECAUSE OF LAZY TEACHERS? BUT YOU TOTALLY FORGOT THE
MOST IMPORTANT DEFINITION OF K-12... K-12 IS A BURDEN, FINANCIAL BURDEN TO
ALL FILIPINO PARENTS WHO COULDNT SUPPORT THEIR CHILDEREN FINANCIALLY.k-12
will just increase the number of OUT-OF-SCHOOL-YOUTH WE ARE NOT RICH TO ACCEPT
THAT PROGRAM AND GO WITH THE FLOW ...TEACHERS WHAT?. generally follow the
tactic of asking students to work on a lot of assignments, I guess lazy teachers who reviewed
students in getting low scores in NAT will also do the same tactic?Learning opportunities or
Sleeping opportunitieswe lack on so many things, but besides that the government can't even
support ten years! What are they going to do with two more??? Theyre going to fail financially,
thats for sure, GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO SUSPEND THAT PROGRAM

2ND NEGATIVE: My argument is K+12 Education System: Not A Good Idea If you are asking me,
K-12 education system implemented in our country is a bad idea for me. The Alliance of
Concerned Teachers (ACT)-Cagayan de Oro chapter said it wanted the K to 12
suspended as it needs to be reviewed since there are issues that the government
must address first. There are too many glaring factors and reasons on why this is a bad idea
at this time.Poverty THIS is the most glaring issue here and THIS is the most popular reason.
Majority of the Filipinos are having a hard time in balancing the budget for primary needs of their
families. How about those parents who cant afford very high tuition fees that seemingly
increase year after year?Teachers Training and Interest No matter how good the system is, it
will just end up a failure if you are not putting the best and the most competitive. Given the
current overall status of teachers in the Philippines, I think that they arent that prepared for an
extended run. Students Interest To Study In a generation dominated by computer and online
games, it is difficult to distinguish on whether students are actually reporting to classes or not.
Despite the efforts of computer shops not allowing elementary and high school students during
class hours, it seems that some rascals are finding ways on how they can have access to
internet cafes just to play with one another.
3rd AFFIRMATIVE : I AM THE SECOND SPEAKER FOR THE AFFIRMATIVE TEAM AND I
WILL BE CONTINUING MY TEAMS CASE TODAY.OUR TEAM powerfully AGREE WITH THIS
STATEMENT WHICH IS THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT K-12 PROGRAM SHOULD NOT BE
SUSPENDED. NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN LET ME REBUT THE POINTS LAID OUT BY
THE OPPOSITION
THE FIRST SPEAKER SAID THAT K-12 IS JUST A PART OF COUNTRYS COLONIAL
MENTALITY ... ITS PROVEN BY REMAKING KOREAN DRAMAS ,COPYING OTHER
COUNTRYS STYLES and etcetera ... THE PH is one of only three countries in the entire world
to still have 10 years of basic education,we are quite literally left behind I guess you really dont
care if your beloved country left behind ?K-12 actually promote a singular Filipino
identity,grounded in cultural diversity.So colonial mentality,you say?Mr. Remaking Korean
dramas,Apop,Kpop have nothing to do with making Education a top priority in this country ....
Just so you know. You pity the students who will suffer because of this system? Guess what??
They do not need your pity; they need you to open your mind and believe them that they can go
with the flow.Now, the first speaker from our team stated that K-12 program helps to provide
sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners the additional 2 years
will really help them to improve themselves sufficient time to master anything and be productive
citizen . You said students will just control their sleeps because of gloomy teachers ..............

There are many problems in the Philippine education scene that needed much attention
and long-term solutions first. Such problems are being addressed for a long time already.
Build classrooms, improve teaching quality, renovate old schools, provide the necessary
needs, or do whatever is needed to be accomplished in order for the quality of education
to be restored.
Im not saying that K-12 system is totally a nixed idea, as it worked on our neighbouring
countries. However, I strongly believe that K-12 will only work better if the overall quality
of education here will be improved to a much competitive level first.
