ABOUT DREAMS AND DREAMING

Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions,

and sensations that occur involuntarily in our minds during
certain stages of sleep, but mainly occur in the rapid-eye
movement (REM) stage of sleepwhen brain activity is high and
resembles that of being awake.. Until now, nobody knows the
purpose of dreaming, and actually there may be no purpose at all.
But that doesnt mean that they make no sense. To the contrary,
dreams correlate with age, gender, culture, and personal
preoccupations, and some times are ,,doodles" or ,,sketches taken
from the events of our lives. Also, dreams can have varying
natures, such as frightening, exciting, magical, melancholic, or
adventurous. The length of a dream can vary; they may last for a
few seconds, or approximately 2030 minutes. But actually, some
scientists say that a dream last only 9 seconds, no matter how
long it looks for us, and repeats over on over again during some
parts of the night. But these are just some things that can not be
certain, because i think that nobody will ever know or find out for
sure, how long a dream lasts.
Now ill present you some interesting facts about dreams and
dreaming:

1. You forget 90% of your dreams

Within 5 minutes of waking, half of your dream is forgotten.
Within 10 minutes, 90% is gone.
2. Blind people also dream
People who became blind after birth can see images in their
dreams. People who are born blind do not see any images, but

their dreams involve their other senses: sound, smell, touch and
emotion.
3. Everybody dreams
Every human being dreams. If you think you are not dreaming,
you just forget your dreams.
4. In our dreams we only see faces that we already know
Our mind is not inventing faces in our dreams we see real faces
of real people that we have seen during our life but may not know
or remember. We have all seen hundreds of thousands of faces
throughout our lives, so we have an endless supply of characters
for our brain to utilize during our dreams.
5. Not everybody dreams in color
A full 12% of sighted people dream exclusively in black and white.
6. Emotions
The most common emotion experienced in dreams is anxiety.
Negative emotions are more common than positive ones.
7.You can have four to seven dreams in one night
On average you can dream anywhere from one or two hours
every night.
8. Animals dream too
Studies have been done on many different animals, and they all
show the same brain waves during dreaming sleep as humans.
Watch a dog sleeping sometime. The paws move like they are
running and they make yipping sounds as if they are chasing
something in a dream.
9. Dream incorporation

During sleep, our mind takes some external stimuli, like souns for
example, and integrates them in a dream. For example, if
someone is playing guitar while you are sleeping, you may dream
that you are in a concert, listening that music. Or a better
example that i think happend to all of us, or tu many of us: when
the alarm clock, or the phone is ringing, you dream that
somebody rings the dorbell or something like that, and after a
while you realise that it is actually the alarm ringing in the real
life.

10. Men and women dream differently

Men tend to dream more about other men. Around 70% of the
characters in a mans dream are other men. On the other hand, a
womans dream contains almost an equal number of men and
women. Aside from that, men generally have more aggressive
emotions in their dreams than the female lot.
11. If you are snoring, then you cannot be dreaming
This fact is repeated all over the internet, but there are no
scientific evidence to prove it, so i dont really knok if thats true.
12. Inventions inspired by dreams
Dreams are responsible for many of the greatest inventions of
mankind. A few examples include:

The idea for Google -Larry Page

Alternating current generator -Tesla

DNAs double helix spiral form -James Watson

The sewing machine -Elias Howe

Periodic table -Dimitri Mendeleyev

and many, many more.
