TVS EFFECTS ON CHILDREN

Television is the cheapest and most popular form of entertainment nowadays.
There is almost a TV set in every household. People of all ages can use it to
entertain themselves at any time they like. It is clear that television is very
useful in our life because it helps us not only to relax our minds but also to get
knowledge of all areas of human life. However, nobody could deny its negative
effects on its viewers especially children. Watching TV constantly might lead
children to several useless habits such as ignoring useful activities, having bad
behaviors and violent actions, and having a poor health.
The first negative effect of television on children is making them ignore useful
activities. As children are addicted to watching TV, they spend most of their
time watching it. As a result, they spend less time on other activities such as
reading and studying. Some children read books or do their homework in front
of the TV set. Others do their homework quickly so that they can have more
time to watch TV. In addition, many children like spending their leisure time
staying at home and sitting in front of a TV set. They do not care outside
activities that can benefit them more. They are not also interested in enjoying
their hobbies or taking part in a club where they have a chance to contact
people and enrich their personality. Therefore, they cannot develop the art of
conversation and lack the communication with the outside world. This makes
them become shy and less self-confident when contacting people around.
The second negative effect of television on children is making children get bad
behavior and violent actions. Because of the fact that there is a variety of TV
programs nowadays and it is not possible to enforce any censorships on them,
children are easily affected by them. They imitate impolite, immoral behavior
and coarse language of bad characters in movies. Especially, actions and
violent movies from foreign counties gradually make children fond of solving

problems by violence. They tend to fight each other to be considered stronger

than others.
The last negative effect is leading children to a poor health. Because children
spend much time on television, they participate less or even ignore physical
exercises such as doing morning exercises, jogging, swimming, playing sport,
which are useful for their health. This leads to unbalanced physical
development and makes children usually feel tired and sluggish. Moreover,
they usually have rushed meals and less sleep, so they may have some health
problems such as stomachache, headache. Also, watching television can lead to
poor posture, eyestrain and shortsighted eyes.
In conclusion, although television is a useful kind of entertainment, it has
caused great effects on children in regard to their hobby, their behavior and
their health. Therefore, in order to reduce its negative effects, it is parents that
control their childrens watching TV programs so that they just watch useful
programs. Besides, parents should pay much attention to their childrens study
and entertainment by giving them definite timetable and encouraging them to
watch programs for children as well as banning them to watch the ones for
adults.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN LIFE IN THE CITY AND LIFE IN

THE COUNTRY
Nowadays, the distance between the city and the countryside seems to be
further due to great changes in the city life. It can be easily seen that life in the
city and that in the countryside differ in such aspects as living standard and
medical care, study and work opportunity, and communication and transport
system.
The biggest difference between life in the city and life in the countryside lies in
their living standard and medical care. In cities, it is common that people have
high living standard. Instead of doing housework by hand, they can use many
kinds of labor saving machines such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners.
These machines free them especially women from doing housework. There are
many shops, supermarkets with a variety of products to meet city dwellers
demand. What is more, the medical care in the city is better. In the city, people
can enjoy the best health care provided by famous hospitals, medical experts
and talented doctors and nurses. On the contrary, people living in the country
have much lower living standard. Most of them live on agriculture. Although
they work and spend all time farming on the fields, they still face many
financial difficulties in their life. They hardly afford their childrens study.
Furthermore, they do not have chances to receive good health care. Hospitals in
the countryside are often dirty and small. Medical equipments are poor and
outdated. Medicines are not enough to provide for the patients. There are not
many doctors, and no medical experts there.
The second difference is study and work opportunities. In cities, people have a
lot of opportunities to improve their knowledge by attending good schools,
universities, evening classes, cultural centers equipped with many modern
devices, where experienced teachers are ready to convey knowledge to them.

They have many chances to contact modern machines such as computers. With
a large number of factories, companies, city dwellers with good qualifications
can find suitable jobs easily. In contrast, in the country people have few
opportunities to go to their small and badly equipped schools where they have
to study 3 shifts a day. The shortage of teachers is also a factor that prevents
students there from getting good and adequate knowledge. Furthermore, if they
want to enter universities, they have to go to the city. However, not all families
in the country can afford that. What is more, in the country, people have fewer
chances to get a job except being a farmer.
Life in the country and life in the city also differ in terms of communication
and transportation system. In the city, transportation system is very modern.
There are many means of transport, and people can choose any one that they
like. They do not have to spend much time moving from place to place.
Communication system is also very modern. With a heavy and modern mobile
net, they can get in touch or have talk with their friends easily. Conversely, in
the county, transportation system is very poor. Whenever they want to go
somewhere, it takes them much time to get to the station. And there they have
to wait for the bus for ages. Besides, it is very difficult for them to get
information or contact their friends or relatives due to the bad communication
system and the lack of the Internet system.
In conclusion, life in the city and that in the country have differences in living
standard, study and work opportunities, and communication and transport
system. However, wherever people live, if they have good awareness of
building and protecting life, they will have a good life.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LIVING IN

DORMITORY
There are several kinds of accommodation for students who leave their
hometown to another city to study. They are dormitories, renting houses and
homestay. However, most of students prefer to live in dormitory. According to
students who have experienced the life in dormitory, living in a dormitory has
several great advantages such as cheap cost, high discipline and safety;
however it has such disadvantages as noise and poor living condition.
One of the biggest advantages of living in a dormitory is the cheap cost. In a
dormitory, an apartment or a room is shared by from 4 to 8 students, so every
student just pays fifty or sixty thousand Vietnam dong per month. In addition,
students living in a dormitory are provided with free mosquito nets, blankets,
mats, beds, and wardrobe, etc. They are also supplied with free running water
and electricity.
Another advantage of living in a dormitory is high discipline and safety.
Dormitorys management has enforced strict disciplines on students. Students
must obey the discipline or else they will be punished. For example, they are
not allowed to have friends visit after 10 p.m. They are also not permitted to
gamble, drink alcohol or fight each other in a dormitory. Furthermore, they are
obliged to keep their room or apartment clean and clear. Thanks to these strict
regulations, students become more self-disciplined. Apart from that, students
living in a dormitory always have a feeling of safety. They do not worry about
burglary or mugging. They are also defended from the attack of hooligans and
gangsters.
Although living in dormitories is advantageous for students with regard to
cheap cost, high discipline and safety, it has several disadvantages.

One of the main disadvantages is noise. There is a variety of noise students

have to suffer such as music noise, talk noise, argument noise. According to
students here, it is difficult to have quiet moments in the dormitory. Because all
students have their own timetables, they are always annoyed by their
roommates. For example, a student is reading while another is listening to radio
and the others are talking and laughing loudly, so none can concentrate on their
activities. Sometimes, two roommates have a quarrel and the other have to
suffer from their argument. Lots of students say that it is very difficult for them
to study in a dormitory because of the noise.
The second disadvantage of living in a dormitory is bad living condition.
Although students here are supplied with free furniture, water and electricity,
their rooms or apartments are not as well furnished as possible. The furniture is
poor in quality and not renewed regularly. Moreover, the apartments are shared
among many students, so the space is scamped, which makes students feel
uncomfortable. In addition, there is a regular shortage of running water, power
cut and poor entertainment. Students have nothing interesting to entertain in
their free time. They gradually lose their hobby of watching TV, reading
newspapers, and playing sports.
In conclusion, although living in a dormitory offers students several advantages
such as cheap cost, safety and discipline, it causes some disadvantages such as
noise and poor living condition. In order to limit the disadvantages and make
the dormitory become a good place for students to live and study, students
sense of discipline and the attention from the executives of universities are
needed.

SHOULD TEACHERS ASSIGN HOMEWORK TO THEIR STUDENTS EVERYDAY?
Homework has long been used as useful way to help students acquire knowledge in
condensation. Many teachers have considered homework a main way to keep both lazy
students studying hard through the course and good students developing their ability.
However, it has been recently argued whether teachers should assign homework to their
students because it is thought to be a burden for normal students and a waste of time for good
students. In my opinion, assigning homework to students everyday is beneficial for both
students and teachers.
Firstly, for students, doing homework everyday benefits them much. It gives them a chance to
review what they have learnt in class and get to know more the subject matter. Because a
lesson in class just lasts 45 minutes in which there are many tasks for both students and
teachers to do, students do not have enough time to practice more exercises. As a result, they
cannot understand the lesson thoroughly. It is homework that provides a chance for students
to consolidate and memorize the knowledge given the lesson. Moreover, homework is
properly designed so that it can condense the main knowledge given in lecture. It helps to
facilitate students process of acquiring knowledge. In addition, doing homework helps
students to develop their independence and creativeness. Homework in the forms of written
assignments, oral presentation requires students independence and creativeness, helping them
prove themselves. What is more, the exercises designed in the forms of group work, pairwork
or topics to discuss give students a chance to interact more, shake information and train
students sense of teamwork. Especially, this kind of activities is helpful for bad students
because they are helped to fill in their gaps of knowledge by good students they work with.
Secondly, assigning homework to students everyday is also beneficial for teachers. Through
checking homework they have given to their students everyday teachers will know how well
their students understand their lectures because students performance in homework is an
accurate reflection of their acquisition of necessary knowledge given in lectures. Through the
performance of students, teachers can find out their gaps in main knowledge, so they can help
them to fill in the gaps immediately. In addition, because homework contributes an accurate
inflection of students ability, it helps teachers have a correct judgment of the real ability of
different students. Thanks to this, teachers can know how to treat different students of
different ability appropriately. They can find suitable ways to help good students to develop
their ability as well as encourage bad students to catch up with their friends.

However, some people think that homework is a burden for students, especially normal
students. They claim that now their children have to learn a lot of subjects, and if teachers
give them homework everyday, they will be tired to cope with them and will be soon bored
with studying. I find it difficult to agree with them. Although students have to learn many
subjects, teachers, who are well-qualified and well-trained, are very aware of what they
should ask their students to do, what kind of exercises they should give their students and how
much is sufficient for them. In addition, homework is well-designed and properly planned by
methodological experts so that it is suitable for students ability and stimulate them to do.
Apparently, homework is not a burden as some people think.
In conclusion, homework is an effective way to help students master the required knowledge
and helps teachers to assess accurately their students real ability. Therefore, we should
consider it an important part in a lecture.

OVERPOPULATION
Overpopulation is ,at present, one of the serious problems facing many countries in the world,
especially poor and developing ones. In these countries, the population increases sharply
every year. This situation originates from the following causes.
The first cause of overpopulation is old thoughts. In reality, some people prefer sons to
daughters because they think that only sons can maintain the family race and take care of
parents in old age. This thought is especially popular in the countryside. Some families have
many children due to the result of seeking a son. Moreover, they also consider sons to be
better in many aspects compared with daughters. For example, people, especially those
influenced by Confucian ideas, view that sons can win prestige and honour to give a good
name to families. Simultaneously, they also think sons are sure to be more intelligent than
daughters. Therefore, they try to have at least one son in their families.
The second cause of overpopulation is the requirement of labour force. In agricultural
countries, to make sure the operation of the economy, the huge labour force is needed. So,
most families are in favour of having more children to help them do farming. For them,
having more children ensures a better life.
In short, old thoughts and the requirement of labour force are the two main causes of
overpopulation. In order to control the rapid increasing rate of population, the government
should have suitable policies to encourage people to have less children and invest in labour
saving machines.

THE EFFECTS OF OVERPOPULATION

In recent years, population development has become one of the most serious problems.
Overpopulation causes the risk of involving in social evils, a significant increase in diseases
and the seriously environmental pollution.
In fact, overpopulation is a factor leading people to social evils easily. First, it is clear that
when population develops quickly, this enormous number of people will face the
unemployment. As a result, they can do anything to earn money, even breaking the law such
as smuggling, and theft. Owning to be free all the time, they may find themselves doing such
unhealthy entertainments as drug addiction, vandalism, and alcohol drinking. Secondly, in
these overcrowded countries, the educational system cannot have enough conditions to
educate all people. Therefore, some of them will lack of daily life knowledge and social evils
is certainly their future.
Moreover, along with overpopulation, people have to suffer a significant increase in diseases.
Overpopulation now reaches its peak and accommodation is a big problem. The images of
street children and the old who usually spend their nights on pavements can be easily caught
in the daily life. The likeliness of catching diseases is very high among these people. Besides,
low living standard caused by overpopulation is also a factor leading to diseases. In the
situation that people do not have enough food to eat, accommodation to live, and money for
their health, epidemics are more likely to happen.
Finally, the environment gets polluted more and more seriously due to overpopulation. The
increasing number of vehicles makes the air pollution becomes more seriously. Besides,
rubbish from households are also threatening the environment. Obviously, a lot of industrial
factories built to solve the problem of unemployment and meet the demands of peoples daily
goods pollute the environment seriously.
To conclude, overpopulation really threatens human life and causes many negative effects in
such aspects as social evils, diseases, and environmental pollution. Therefore, everyone
should give a hand to solve the overpopulation by having only one or two children.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LIVING IN A

CITY
City is a place where most of people want to live. Nowadays, more and more
people rush to live there. Living in a city, people have more advantages such as
opportunities to promote, high living standard, but they also face many disadvantages
such as polluted environment, social evils and bad human relationship.
There are many advantages of living in a city. The first advantage is that
people have more opportunities to promote. It is very easy to find a good course and
get information for promotion. The second advantage is that people have higher
standard of living. Obviously, life expectancy of people is longer. They have a good
medical care whenever having health problems. Thanks to good doctors, modern
hospitals and advantages in medical technology, they can overcome diseases. Besides,
living in a city, people also enjoy modern conveniences such as telephone, computer,
radio, television and labour-saving machines.
However, living in a city also brings people a lot of disadvantages. Hundreds
of factories and thousands of vehicles eliminate smoke to the air everyday. This is the
main cause of air pollution. Crowded citizens are the cause of water pollution.
Markets, transportation and factories also cause noise. The pollution makes people
uneasy at all. In addition, living in a city, people have tendency to be affected by
social evils such as drug addiction, crime and sexual problems. The final disadvantage
is bad human relationship. Citizens appreciate material values. Most of people try to
work all day to get much money. So, they dont have enough time to take care of each
other.
In conclusion, living in a city, people can get more chances to enjoy a better
life, but they also suffer from many bad things. Therefore, they should try to reduce
the disadvantages to enjoy their life in a city.
