RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter deals with the discussion of the methods and the procedures

of research, in order to gather the needed data. It also presents the

instrumentation used, the sampling technique, locale and population of the study,

the description of the respondents, and the statistical treatment used.

Research Design

This research utilized descriptive method. It is to gathered informations but

without manipulation, because the researchers cannot conduct this as

experimental study; since doing so, can endanger the health of the subjects. In

other words, descriptive research is a low on the “control manipulation of the

research context scale”. It is non intrusive and deals with naturally occurring

phenomena.

In employing this method the researchers aims to identify the severe

health problems in taking slimming pills among the second year nursing students

of Our Lady of Fatima University, and also to determine the respondents doing

with similar problems, which is derived from their experiences and so the

researchers may benefit.

Locale and Population of the Study

This study will have the second year nursing students of OUR LADY OF

FATIMA UNIVERSITY as it focus. The number of the students proponents

choose to include in this study is in 3-5 sections and each having respondents

between 50-100 students.

The researchers choose the selected users of slimming pills which is the

second year nursing students as its locale in consideration of their experience.

Sampling Technique

The researchers employed to use a type of cluster sampling, which is a

Probability. It is the type of sampling used because the population is densely

distributed in the vast community of Our Lady of Fatima University.

The respondents may consist of 3-5 sections, so may randomly pick by

the researchers upon the time of gathering data of giving questionnaires and

interviewing the respondents.

Description of the Respondents

Respondents of the study are the selected users of slimming pills who are

the second year nursing students. They are described within the define criteria in

order to have the needed data from the right source.

The respondents of the study are either male or female that are taking

slimming pills as their course of weight losing and should be within the chosen

locale.

Statistical Treatment Used

The researchers will use the formula:

• The Chi-Square Distribution

x2 = means Chi-square; means summation symbol

fo = means observed frequency

fe = means expected frequency

The researchers used the Chi-square distribution to know and test the

significant difference between a set of observed values and a set of expected

value.

• Slovin’s Formula

N = means population size

e = means marginal error which is 5%

Instrumentation
 The instrument used by the researchers in obtaining the needed data for

this study is through Questionnaires.

Questionnaire

This is the researcher’s primary source of data that contained a closed

ended type of questions that is designed to answer the problems stated in

chapter 1.

Part 1 of the questionnaire, in order to know if the respondents is taking slimming

pills, the researchers choose dichotomous; it is a question (under the closed

ended type of questions) that offers two answer choices that are usually a yes or

a no;. The part 1 also includes the profile of the respondents which is only the

name because there is no broad demographic profile needed.

Part 2 of the questionnaire, is a multiple type of slimming pills that the

respondents will choose only one among more than three choices.

Then, the last part of the questionnaire is by ranking the severe health problems

that a slimming pills users usually experience; Furthermore, to know the severity

or level of the problem.

This questionnaire prepared by the researchers all of which will be

answered by the said number of respondents.
