boards

Slots IU9 and IU10 can be installed with the XCS board.
If the OptiX OSN 8800 functions as an optical-layer
layer subrack, slots IU9 and IU10 cannot be installed with any
boards. That is, slots IU9 and IU10 must be blank and must be covered with a blank filler panel.
The SCC board can be installed in only slots IU11 and IU28 (IU28 must be configured by default, and IU11 is the
standby slot for IU28).
When not installed with a standby SCC, slot IU11 can be installed with only an optical-layer
optical
board with a central
processing unit (CPU) and cannot be installed with an optical-layer
optical
board without a CPU.
Slots IU1IU8, IU12IU19, IU20IU27, and IU29
IU36 can hold all 6U service boards and optical-layer boards.
The printed circuit board (PCB) of a two-slot-width
width service board such as the OAU1, OBU205, TN12LSXLR, or
NS3 is on the right side of the front panel. Therefore, such a service board cannot be installed in slot IU1, IU20,
or IU29, and thus a logical service board for such a physical service board cannot be created on the T2000 or
T2100. The PCBs of other two-slot-width
width service boards are on the left sides of the front panels on the service
boards.
The PCBs of the boards that can be installed in slot IU3, except the HBA board, are on the left sides of the front
panels on the boards. Therefore, such a board cannot be installed in slots IU7, IU8, IU18, IU19, IU26, IU27, IU35,
or IU36. In addition, the PCB of the HBA board is in the middle of the front panel. Note this when you create a
logical HBA board on the T2000 or T2100.

Slots for system boards such as the AUX, PIU, FAN, EFI2, EFI1, and ATE cannot be interchanged. That is, such
slots are exclusive for certain boards.

Layout of communication interfaces of the OptiX OSN 8800 I V100R001

The OptiX OSN 8800 I V100R001 does not support configuration of the active and standby
TN51AUX boards (the configuration is required by customers in North America, and will
be supported by the OptiX OSN 8800 I of V100R002 or later). Therefore, in the case of
V100R001, only one TN51AUX can be configured. In this case, the TN51AUX should be
configured in slot IU41, and a blank filler panel should be installed in slot IU43.

The OptiX OSN 8800 I V100R001 does not support the STG or STI board, and the OptiX
OSN 8800 I of V100R002 or later is planned to support the STG and STI boards.

The DIP switch for the master/slave subrack is on the EFI1 board.
The ID of the master subrack is 0 by default. The ID of a slave subrack is set by using DIP switches SW1
and SW2, as shown in the figure. The ID of a slave subrack consists of eight binary digits that are
decreasing arranged as ID8ID1. Currently, only ID6ID1
ID1 are valid, and ID7 and ID8 are reserved. ID1ID4
ID1
correspond to bits 14 of SW2, and ID5ID8
ID8 correspond to bits 14
1 of SW1. If a bit is toggled ON, the binary
digit that corresponds to this bit is set to 0.

Modifying a node ID causes service interruption.

Fan tray assembly
1. The OptiX OSN 8800 is configured with two fan
tray assemblies. The lower fan tray assembly is
used to inhale, and the upper one is used to
exhaust. Each fan tray assembly is underlined
with an air filter.
2. When powered on, the fans are running at their
medium speeds. When the SCC software is
running, the SCC controls the fan speed. When
the fans are running, if the SCC is offline or
reset or certain fans are faulty, the in-service
fans run at their full speeds (resulting in a large
noise). In this case, you can manually set the
fan speeds (low, medium, or high).

Configuration of a Cabinet for the OptiX OSN 8800 I Equipment
The OptiX OSN 8800 I subrack can be installed in a T63B cabinet, an N63B
cabinet, a standard ETSI cabinet, or a North American 23-inch
23
open rack. The
T63B cabinet and the N63B cabinet share the same body design but have different
layouts of ear mounting holes for subracks.
The N63B cabinet is a mainstream middle-column
middle
cabinet (Huawei WDM
equipment is installed in the N63B cabinet). One N63B 2.2 m cabinet can house
two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks. In this case, there is no space for dispersion
compensation module (DCM) frames. Therefore, the dispersion compensation
unit (DCU) board must be used to compensate for dispersion. If the OptiX OSN
8800 and the OptiX OSN 6800 share the same N63B 2.2 m cabinet, this cabinet
can house one OptiX OSN 8800 subrack plus two OptiX OSN 6800 subracks. In
addition, two 1U frames such as two DCM frames can be placed in the space
beneath the three subracks in the cabinet.

Independent
configuration of the
OptiX OSN 8800

Cabinet-sharing configuration
of the OptiX OSN 8800 and
OptiX OSN 6800

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

Precautions:
There are high-power
high
fans at the top and bottom of each OptiX OSN 8800
subrack. A heat dissipation test shows that no extra air duct is required at the top
of the OptiX OSN 8800 subrack or OptiX OSN 6800 subrack regardless whether
the OptiX OSN 8800 is independently installed in a cabinet or shares a cabinet
with the OptiX OSN 6800.
The N63B 2.2 m cabinet is the mainstream cabinet for delivery, and the N63B
2.6 m cabinet is the N63B 2.2 m cabinet with a 0.4 m high upper enclosure frame.
Do not place any extra materials in this enclosure frame.
Do not configure any mechanical variable optical attenuator (MVOA) in the
OptiX OSN 8800 subrack because the MVOA cannot be fixed in the subrack.
In addition, it is recommended that you do not configure a fiber spool in the
subrack.

Huawei Confidential

Page 20

Installation of the OptiX OSN 8800

Configuration of a Cabinet for the OptiX OSN 8800 I Equipment
One N63B 2.2 m cabinet can house two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks or one OptiX
OSN 8800 subrack plus two OptiX OSN 6800 subracks. If the N63B 2.2 m cabinet
houses two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks, these two subracks must be an opticaloptical
layer subrack placed in the lower space and an electrical-layer
electrical
subrack in the
upper space of the cabinet. (In the case of the OptiX OSN 8800, the subrack
installed with cross-connect
cross
boards and OTU boards or tributary/line boards is
called the electrical-layer
electrical
subrack, and the subrack mainly installed with opticallayer boards is called optical-layer
optical
subrack. Generally, the optical-layer subrack is
not configured with cross-connect
cross
boards.)

If the N63B 2.2 m cabinet houses one OptiX OSN 8800 subrack plus two OptiX
OSN 6800 subracks, the OptiX OSN 8800 subrack must be an electrical-layer
electrical
subrack placed in the upper space of the cabinet. (If an optical-layer
optical
subrack is
placed in the upper space, the optical interfaces of this subrack face the bottom. In
this case, the subrack installation dose not meet the safety requirement.)

Independent
configuration of the
OptiX OSN 8800

Cabinet-sharing configuration
of the OptiX OSN 8800 and
OptiX OSN 6800

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

Precautions:
If a Raman amplifier board is configured, place it at the bottom of the cabinet.
One Raman amplifier board occupies the space for installing one OptiX OSN
6800/8800 subrack. The remaining space can be used to accommodate the OptiX
OSN 6800 subracks, DCM frames, or fiber spools.
When
When multiple subracks are to be installed into one cabinet for expansion, install
these subracks from top to bottom. In the case of cabinet-sharing
cabinet
configuration of
the OptiX OSN 8800 and OptiX OSN 6800, first configure the OptiX OSN 8800
subrack in the upper space of the cabinet, then configure the OptiX OSN 6800
subrack in the lower space, and at last configure an expansion subrack in the
middle space, to avoid uneven distribution of weight.

PDU of a cabinet

1. If the OptiX OSN 8800 subrack is used as an electrical-layer

layer subrack, its maximum power consumption is 4800 W. In this case, the subrack
requires two 50 A currents. Four 50 A currents, including two active 50 A currents and two standby 50 A currents, are configured
configu
for the
subrack. Therefore, if two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks are installed in one cabinet, eight 50 A air circuit breakers should be configured
co
on the
PDU of the cabinet.
2. The maximum power consumption of the OptiX OSN 6800 subrack is smaller than 1200 W, and thus the subrack requires two 30 A currents.
Therefore, if one OptiX OSN 8800 subrack and two OptiX OSN 6800 subracks share one cabinet, four 50 A air circuit breakers and
an four 30 A
air circuit breakers should be configured on the PDU of the cabinet.
3. In practice, if the power consumption of configured boards is moderate whereas the customer cannot provide the power supply
suppl compliant
with Huawei specifications, the expected power consumption can be roughly calculated according to the actual power consumption
consumptio of the
boards. The calculation formula is as follows: Expected power consumption = Actual power consumption/40 V*120%. In this case, a project
memo that records the calculation must be prepared and mutually signed by Huawei and the customer.
4. The OptiX OSN 8800 subrack and the PDU adopt ring terminals.
5. If the number of power supplies is insufficient, see the next slide for the power supply installation scheme.

and connect the input and output cables back to the PDU.
Ensure that the installation is correct.
Then, turn on the protection switch on the power
distribution cabinet in the customer office, and turn on
the air circuit breaks to recover the power supplies of the
equipment.

Installation of the OptiX OSN 8800

Replacement of power switches

Example of replacing power switches: Initially, one cabinet is initially configured with eight 53 A air circuit
breakers intended for two OptiX OSN 8800 I subracks, and only one OptiX OSN 8800 I subrack is configured.
When two OptiX OSN 6800 subracks are added to the cabinet for expansion, the four 53 A switches SW3A,
SW4A, SW3B, and SW4B should be replaced with four 30 A switches.
Switches on the PDU can be replaced one by one when the PDU is in service.

First toggle the power switch to OFF, then use a Phillips

screwdriver to remove the handle of the power switch to
be replaced and the fastening screw (one for each power
switch, in the upper area of the handle, as shown in the
figure above).

Replacement of power switches
Reuse the handle of a removed switch (the two panhead screws on
the handle need to be removed) to recombine the handle with a
new switch to be installed. In this case, the new switch must be
toggled to OFF, as shown in the figure on the left.

Place the new switch to the position from which the original switch is
removed, and install the fastening screws to fix the handle to the panel. Then,
toggle the switch to ON, and connect a multimeter to the negative input and
output terminals of the switch to test the connectivity of the switch. If the
input and output are continuous, the replacement of the switch is successful,
as shown in the figure on the left. In this manner, one switch is replaced. To
replace more switches, repeat the preceding steps.

The anticlockwise direction of a ring (viewed from the outside of the ring) is the main ring direction
from west to east. The node IDs increase along the main ring direction.
In the case of two back-to-back

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD.

 Currently, multi-dimensional
multi
optical cross-connection requires multiple
subracks. Therefore, the master-slave
master
subrack management is adopted.
One OptiX OSN 8800 master subrack can be configured with three OptiX
OSN 8800 slave subracks plus four OptiX OSN 6800 slave subracks. Typically,
the subrack where the optical-layer
optical
board and overhead board reside is
selected as the master subrack. In addition, a slave subrack cannot be
upgraded to a master subrack.
 In the master-slave
master
subrack mode, multiple subracks are displayed as one
NE on the T2000. In the traditional HUB mode, multiple subracks are displayed
as multiple NEs on the T2000.
 The optical-layer
optical
ASON function is available only in the master-slave
subrack mode. The electrical-layer
electrical
ASON function is not subject to this
constraint.
The HUB mode cannot be smoothly upgraded to the master-slave
master
subrack
mode. As a result, to use ASON functions in a new project, the master-slave
master
subrack mode must be adopted at the very beginning of the project (the OSC
mode must also be adopted; namely, the FIU and SCx boards must be
configured).
 The optical-layer
optical
subrack at the bottom of the cabinet is set as the master
subrack by default. In the OSC mode, the SC1 or SC2 board should be
configured in the master subrack. In the case of the OptiX OSN 8800
V100R001, the master subrack must be the OptiX OSN 8800 subrack, and the
OptiX OSN 6800 subracks can be used as only slave subracks. In the case of
the OptiX OSN 8800 of version V100R002 or later, this constraint is cleared.

Rules for connecting the master-slave subracks
(for details, see the Quick Installation Guide)

Scenario in which two OptiX OSN 8800 subracks share one

cabinet:
The upper subrack functions as the master subrack. It must
be an electrical-layer subrack.
The lower subrack can be either an electrical-layer subrack or an
optical-layer subrack.
The master and slave subracks are connected to each other
through a straight through cable.
The straight through cable is connected between subrack
cascade interfaces ETH1/2/3 on the two EFI2 boards in the master
subrack to the slave subrack. The figure on the right shows how to
connect the cable. In the case of inter-cabinet master-slave
subrack mode, it is recommended that you cascade the subracks
according to the figure (for example, connect interface ETH1 in the
slave subrack shown in the figure to interface ETH2 in the upper
subrack in another cabinet).
NM_ETH1 and NM_ETH2 are two network management
interfaces. A straight through cable is connected between interface
NM_ETH1/2 on the T2000 (or T2100) and interface ETH1/2/3 on
the master subrack. No network cable needs to be connected
between a slave subrack and the T2000 (or T2100).

Scenario in which one OptiX OSN 8800 subrack and two OptiX
OSN 6800 subracks share one cabinet:
The OptiX OSN 8800 subrack in the upper space of the
cabinet functions as the master subrack. This master subrack
must be an electrical-layer subrack. (Conventionally, the
lower OptiX OSN 6800 subrack is used as the master subrack.
In the case of the OptiX OSN 8800 V100R001, however, the
OptiX OSN 6800 subrack cannot be used as the master
subrack. In the case of the OptiX OSN 8800 of version V100R002
or later, this constraint is cleared.)
The master and slave subracks are connected to each other

8800 subrack to subrack cascade interface ETH1/2/3 on the AUX
or EFI board in each OptiX OSN 6800 subrack. The figure on the
right shows how to connect the cables. In the case of inter-cabinet
master-slave subrack mode, it is recommended that you cascade
the subracks according to the figure.
NM_ETH1 and NM_ETH2 are two network management

Rules for Configuring the OptiX OSN 8800 Subrack

East-west separation and electrical-layer
layer grooming

The traditional WDM equipment complies with the east-west

west separation rule that east and west OTU boards are installed in separate
separat subracks. As a result,
the power failure of a certain subrack affects the services in only one direction. Some operators such as BT have specific requirements
re
on this rule.

Electrical-layer
layer grooming is the striking feature of the optical transport network (OTN) equipment. To realize this feature, the OTU boards in different
dictions must be configured in the same subrack. This constraint conflicts with the east-west
east
separation rule.

To solve the conflict between the east-west

west separation rule and the electrical-layer
electrical
grooming rule, a separate slot configuration guide that complies with
each of the two rules is provided for an OADM station that may require electrical-layer
electrical
grooming. The east-west separation rule is used upon the customer's
specific requirement. If the customer does not specify a rule, it is recommended that you use the electrical-layer
electrical
grooming rule to highlight the uniform
optical and electrical grooming feature of the OTN equipment.

Rules for installing the OSC board

When the orderwire function and the optical-layer

layer ASON features are required, the OSC (FIU + SCx) board must be used.

No service is added from or dropped to the optical line amplifier (OLA) station in a network. Therefore, the OSC board must be
b used at the OLA.

To provide the OTN optical-layer

layer (OTS/OMS/OCh) management and overhead functions, the OSC board also must be used.

To allow pass-through
through of orderwire information and optical wavelength shared protection (OWSP) APS protocol packets, it is recommended
recom
that you
configure the SCx board in each direction of the NE to the master subrack (in the case of east-west
east
separation, the FIU boards can be configured in east and
west separately). If one SC1 board is configured in each of the east and west directions, to allow the pass-through,
pass
these two SC1 boards should be
configured in two paired slots (two adjacently paired slots for overhead boards in the case of the OptiX OSN 8800, such as slots IU1 & IU2 and IU3 & IU4.
There are no paired lots for service boards). If the SC2 board is configured instead of the SC1 board, the SC2 board supports only inter-board pass-through.
That is, two interfaces in east and west of one SC2 board are used for communication.

In the 80-channel
channel OptiX OSN 8800 V100R001 system, the SC1/SC2 and WMU boards should be configured in the same subrack to provide the wavelength
locking function for the subrack.

Each NE can be configured with a maximum of four orderwire interfaces. Therefore, orderwire communication in some directions of a node with more than
four dimensions is unavailable. The number of SCx boards that do not support orderwire communication is not limited.

Rules for installing OTU boards (arranged by priority from high to low)

The OTU boards arranged by frequency should be installed from small to large in slots from left to right of subracks from bottom
bot
to top
of a cabinet.

If the east and west OTU boards are configured in one subrack, the boards should be installed from left to right on the left side in the
west and from left to right on the right side in the east. Then, the centralized XCS board and the active and standby SCC boards
boa
should
be installed.

When the single fed and single receiving OTU board is configured with inter-board
inter
protection or client-side protection, the east and west
OTU boards must be configured in the same subrack. The west subrack is preferred. Each two OTU boards should be installed, in a
sequence of the west OTU1 -> east OTU1 -> west OTU2 ->
> east OTU2, in two adjacent slots for mutual protection. The SCS boards should
sh
be installed from left to right.

When intra-board
board protection exists, the west subrack for installing dual fed and selectively receiving boards is preferred.

When the Telecom Department designs wavelengths, frequencies used by the same type of boards must be adjacent to each other.
Otherwise, the same type of boards installed in a sequence of frequency are not adjacent and not neat. The Telecom Department should
mark the frequencies in the wavelength allocation diagram and should not number them in the diagram as numbers are confusing.

In engineering design, the OTU boards should be suffixed with the frequencies at which they operate.

The channel numbering of an NG WDM system is the same as that of the OptiX BWS 1600G system and complies with the corresponding
correspondi
international standard. The numbering of an NG WDM system, however, differs from that of the original OptiX BWS 320G system or
o an
OptiX Metro WDM system. For example, 192.1 THz is the first channel of the original OptiX BWS 320G but is the eightieth channel
chann of C
band specified in the corresponding international standard.

For more details about the rules for installing OTU boards, see the corresponding manuals
for the preceding products.
