OVERVIEW
The Lancaster-Lebanon Boys Volleyball
League had one of its best seasons
ever, qualifying four teams for the PIAA
Tournament with all four winning at least
one game and one, Hempfield, getting to
the semifinals. Those same teams, Penn
Manor, Cocalico, Lancaster Mennonite and
Hempfield, all reached the semifinals in the
District Three Tournament with two, Penn
Manor and Lancaster Mennonite, getting
to the title game. Hempfield claimed the
Section One and league titles while Cocalico
and Lancaster Mennonite needed a playoff
to decide the title in Section Two, which was
won by the Eagles.
The league-wide boys volleyball All-Stars, the Player of the Year and the Coach of the Year were selected by a vote by the L-L Leagues volleyball coaches.

OVERVIEW
Donegal
A season that will be remembered by many for its unseasonably cold and rainy
conditions took on a golden hue in district play as Hempfield, Donegal and Lancaster
County Christian claimed championships. Lancaster County Christian then won its first
PIAA title, as Kyle Ebersole tossed a two-hitter in an 8-0 win over Eisenhower in the
Class A final. Manheim Centrals Blake Reiff threw a rare no-hitter in state competition;
Ephrata earned the L-L title; Lampeter-Strasburg claimed a crown in its first season
in Section Two and Lancaster Catholic reclaimed the top spot in Section Four. Off the
field, L-S star Bear Shank showed remarkable courage in undergoing brain surgery
and Manheim Township coaching legend Bill Sassaman did not have his contract
renewed after 23 seasons and 339 victories at the Blue Streaks helm.

Wanner teamed with Haemoon

OVERVIEW
It wasnt just on the courts where
volleys were traded this spring.
Manheim Township and Hempfield
alternated team titles with Hempfield
winning its first L-L League crown
in four years and the Blue Streaks
taking home Section One and District
Three honors. Hempfields Derek
Hagino and Cedar Crests Colin
Muraika also got in on the action
in singles play as Hagino downed
Muraika for the Class AAA league
title before Muraika returned the
favor to grab district gold.
While Lancaster Mennonites Will
Wanner established himself as a
contender in Class AA with his second
league title and second-place finish in
districts, Elco emerged from a threeway tie in Section Two with its first
league crown since 2003. The Raiders
tandem of Adam Bahney and Galen
McNaughton claimed PIAA doubles
gold after winning the Class AA district
crown and their third league trophy.
The league-wide tennis All-Stars, the Coach of the Year and Player of the Year were selected by the L-L Leagues tennis coaches.
OVERVIEW
For Warwick, the Warriors started
off not-so-hot, losing a thumper
to Manheim Township and a
heartbreaker to Lampeter-Strasburg,
before going 9-3 down the stretch
to finish third in the L-L standings,
compete in the L-L tournament, and
win the programs first-ever District
Three playoff game.
For Elizabethtown, the Bears
appeared to have the makings of
a breakout campaign by going 4-1
in the L-L early on before faltering
down the stretch, but somewhat
making up for it by upending
Cocalico in overtime in late April.
That put a damper on a Cocalico
season that turned around at the
calendars mid-point, signified by
a two-goal win over LampeterStrasburg that gave the Eagles hope
of a possible berth into the L-L
playoffs. But it would be ultimately
L-S and Ephrata battling down the
stretch for the final spot in the L-L
playoffs, with the Mountaineers
winning the tie-breaker when they
finished tied with the Pioneers for
the fourth and final spot in the L-L
standings.
Hempfield and Manheim Township
met in the L-L tournament
championship game, the Blue Streaks
winning and going on to capture the
District Three title while the Black
Knights nabbed the District Three
third-place game, with both teams
putting up a fight in the state playoffs.

Bo: Id probably say my math teacher, Mr.

way he interacts with kids made me want to
be a math teacher.
