Hi-tech learning: Students can collaborate on projects with the One Note.
MANILA, Philippines - Over the past years, classrooms have evolved a lot. PCs
were replaced by laptops, tablets became phablets like the Lumia 640 XL or
smaller smartphones like the Lumia 532. Schools stopped using chalkboards and
floppy disks, and started using digital screens, flash drives and cloud storages like
One Drive.
With the worlds fast-paced technological advancements, some members of the
Philippine academe are now seeing the potential, and looking forward to having
digitized classrooms with OneNote Class Notebook, an app for Office 365 that lets
teachers create a digital notebook for each student and distribute their
personalized lesson materials and homework, which their students can access
anywhere, anytime, and even offline.
With OneNote, students will be extra-organized. Everything we neednotes,
announcements, syllabus, handoutscan already be accessed through one device
in just a few taps. Plus, theres easy and sure connection with us and our
professor, says Daniella Montiel, a mass communication student at Pamantasan
ng Lungsod ng Maynila. Benedict Gracilla, an Accountancy student from Imus
Institute adds, There is no chance that Microsoft OneNote cannot help in one way
or another both the students and instructors. It will benefit not just schools but
also other firms who intend to adapt such great technology.

In classrooms, devices such as Lumia 640 XL, can be used to replace their paper
notebooks; while at home, they can use the same device or more affordable
Lumia models, like Lumia 535 or 432, to complete requirements for the next day.
They can edit their work, and even ask for their teachers input.
For educators, there is the OneNote Staff Notebook, another app for Office 365
that lets educational staff leaders set up a personal workspace for every teacher
and manage educator collaboration in an entire school or district rather than just
individual classes. I believe this technology is very efficient for us, teachers. The
tools catered in OneNote would be of great help for us because it will manage our
work in the easiest way possible. says Aljohn Emmanuel Cruz, science teacher
from Sapang Palay National High School. Beulah Joy Lejano, assistant professorial
lecturer at the De La Salle University-DasmariasCommunication and Journalism
Department sees some of the practical applications of One Note: outline lectures,
record audio notes from conversations, and easily sketch away any presentation
which is best for visual learners in school. OneNote makes it so much easier to
manage your life. she added.
OneNote also provides an avenue for parents to engage their kids to
conversations with their teachers while they are at home. Teachers can hear their
students from home, and they can respond by typing their comments or recording
their voices. They can even monitor and give special attention to students who
need it more. My kids may have their gadgets with them but if theres OneNote, I
know they will not be missing anything about their class. I guess OneNote will
make me a worry-free mom, says Jody Derafera, a mother of two who is originally
based in Manila.
Kahalagahan:
estudyante dito.
magpasa, makipaginteract, at siyempre matuto.

ANGELES CITY It is about time the Department of Education (DepEd) implements
the proposed measure limiting the weight of school bags being carried by school
children.
Sen. Lito Lapid stressed this over the weekend, referring to Senate Bill No. 237
that he introduced in 2013 as a measure to prevent school children from
developing serious health conditions as a result of carrying heavy bags.
order sa lahat ng mga school administrators, Lapid said in an exclusive interview
following a forum held at a Korean restaurant in Clark.
gumamit ng tablets at computers, he added.
Senate Bill 237 or the Childrens Schoolbag Weight Regulation Act of 2013An
Act proposes to limit the weight of school bags, both in elementary and
secondary levels, to only 15 percent of a childs body weight.
Any bag weighing more than 15 percent of a childs body weight is deemed
overweight, the bill states.
The bill also proposes that DepEd require a uniform design of school desks that
has provisions for book storage underneath its writing table.

MANILA, Philippines - How are computers and the Internet helping students learn
in school? As more and more schools use computers and the Internet in their
classrooms, there have been several improvements in how students nowadays are
getting their education.
These improvements, which have been noted by teachers and school
administrators, include the following:
Independence and information gathering. By connecting to the Internet,
students learn how to do their own research. The wealth of information available
on the Web plus the ease of using search engines give students more
independence and confidence, as well as increased skill, when it comes to finding
relevant data and putting these data together to meet a learning requirement or
goal.
Critical thinking and reflection. With the large volume of information that they
access, students are induced to learn to think critically: Which information is
accurate? Is this information useful to the homework or subject at hand? Is this
information validated by multiple sources and by the latest research findings?
Students learn not to simply accept any data, no matter how readily available.
With the guidance of their teacher, they are able to practice critical thought.
Communication and collaboration. Through the exchange of ideas and messages
either by e-mail, chat, or even social media students are able to collaborate
with each other to test their understanding of lessons. They can more easily ask
questions to one another and provide answers and share research data. They can
also help verify each others work, and involve their teachers in this collaborative
and communication loop.
More engaging learning experience. Information today is more engaging to the
mind and the senses because of its multimedia nature. Students have text,
images, video, audio, and even animation to help them better understand
concepts and ideas relevant to their lessons. This multimedia experience lets this
information be better ingrained in their minds.

Preparation for jobs later on. The jobs that students will be hired for, and the
professions they practice, will require them to have working knowledge of
computer use in the workplace, as well as for communication and information
processing. Having students use computers and the Internet in the classroom
prepares them for this future work environment.

Knowing all of these improvements and advantages, more and more schools are
allowing not just desktop computers and laptops, but also tablet devices and
smartphones in their classrooms. Tablet devices, as their computing power and
multimedia features increase over time, are becoming a preferred tool for learning
and instruction.
