Histogram
Description
Histogramsaregraphsofadistributionofdatadesignedtoshowcentering,dispersion(spread),andshape(relative
frequency)ofthedata.Histogramscanprovideavisualdisplayoflargeamountsofdatathataredifficulttounderstandinatabular,or
spreadsheetform.
Theyareusedtounderstandhowtheoutputofaprocessrelatestocustomerexpectations(targetsandspecifications),andhelpanswerthe
question:"Istheprocesscapableofmeetingcustomerrequirements?"

Example
Tounderstandtheapplicationofhistograms,considerasimpleexample:heightdatawerecollectedfromatrainingclassof50individuals,as
shownonthefollowingtable:

Thereareonly50measurements,butitisdifficulttodrawspecificconclusionsaboutthedatawithoutfurtheranalysis.AHistogramcanbe

Ifthissamplewasrepresentativeoftheoverallpopulationofemployees(randomlydrawn),andifthesampleislargeenough,wecould
