ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First, I would like to thank my Additional Mathematics subject teacher, Mr Johnattan
James. He has been patiently guiding us and giving much relevant information to
ensure that this project would be a success .
Next, I would like to range my earnest appreciation to my parents, my dad, Chin
Chun Fatt and my mum, Yap Pheng Pheng for giving me support in every ways, such as
money to buy anything that are related to this project and their advise. They always
support me no matter how hard it is .
Furthermore , my friends who were doing this project and shared their ideas without
reservation . They were helpful and generous . We combined and discussed together
although this task was done individually. I thank them for helping me in solving some of
the calculations.
Besides , other parties are also gratefully thanked for helping out in this project.
After done this project, I acquired many valuable skills, and hope that those skills will be
put to good use.
Lastly, as a Christian , I would like to thank my Lord for giving me the strength and
health to do this project and done in perfectly . Thank you.

OBJECTIVE
We students taking Additional Mathematics are required to carry out a project work
while we are in Form 5. This year the Curriculum Development Division, Ministry of
Education has prepared two tasks for us. We have to choose and complete only one
task based on our area of interest. This project must be done individually. Upon
completion of the Additional Mathematics Project Work, we are to gain valuable
experiences and able:
I.

Develop Mathematical knowledge in a way which increases students interest

and confidence.

II.

Apply Mathematics to everyday situations and to begin to understand the part

that Mathematics plays in the world in which we live.

III.

Improve thinking skills and promote effective Mathematical communication.

IV.

Assist students to develop positive attitude and personalities, intrinsic

Mathematical values such as accuracy, confidence and systematic reasoning.

V.

Stimulate learning and enhance effective learning.

Introduction
A statistic (singular) is a single measure of some attribute of a sample (e.g., its
arithmetic mean value). It is calculated by applying a function (statistical algorithm) to
the values of the items of the sample, which are known together as a set of data.
More formally, statistical theory defines a statistic as a function of a sample
where the function itself is independent of the sample's distribution; that is, the function
can be stated before realization of the data. The term statistic is used both for the
function and for the value of the function on a given sample.
A statistic is distinct from a statistical parameter, which is not computable
because often the population is much too large to examine and measure all its items.
However, a statistic, when used to estimate a population parameter, is called an
estimator. For instance, the sample mean is a statistic that estimates the population
mean, which is a parameter.
When a statistic (a function) is being used for a specific purpose, it may be
referred to by a name indicating its purpose: in descriptive statistics, a descriptive
statistic is used to describe the data; in estimation theory, an estimator is used to
estimate a parameter of the distribution (population); in statistical hypothesis testing, a
test statistic is used to test a hypothesis. However, a single statistic can be used for
multiple purposes for example the sample mean can be used to describe a data set,
to estimate the population mean, or to test a hypothesis.

COMMENTS:
The mean of education is higher than the mean of the recreation. It is obviously
showing that education is more important than recreation for everyone. Most of the
family spend most of the money on education to make sure that the future of their
children is better rather than spending money on recreation. Thus, the standard
deviation of education is higher than the standard deviation of recreation.

Conclusion about countries achievement and their

literate level.
The programme for the International Assessment (PISA) results are showing that
Asian countries out perform the rest of the world are Shanghai, Singapore, Hong
Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Macau and Japan amongst the top performing
countries. Students in Shanghai can perform the best in Mathematics.
Qatar recorded an average improvement in Mathematics performance of more
than eight points a year. As per report it claims have shown a consistent
improvement over time in Mathematics performance. Table above does showing that
Qatar and Colombia, Tunisia and Argentina are in the same literate level.

CONCLUSION
I learnt a lot while doing the project of this subject , Additional Mathematics . If it is
not done, it is hard for all of us to complete our daily task and fulfil our daily needs.
Throughout the project while I was conducting it, I realised that Mathematics is
such an important subject and knowledge in our daily life apart from the regular
calculations. Besides, I have learnt to be patient and not to give up easily even when
I failed to do it for the first time as everyone have the second chance to complete the
task . I have to stay strong no matter how hard my journey is to succeed.
This project had made me more confident when doing a certain thing . Moreover, I
have learnt that I have to do my task systematically by planning it before I start . It is
easier for me to conduct a thing without extremely hard work. It saves my time to
finish this project in such a short time.
At last, I have increased my knowledge in Additional Mathematics throughout this
project. This includes on usage of knowledge and ways to conduct this project by my
own.

MORAL VALUES
I have learnt many moral values throughout this project. I have learnt to be a
cooperative person because teamwork leads us succeed . Cooperation is a useful
tool for everyone to complete the tasks in an easier way without wasting of time .
Apart from that , I have learnt to be responsible and determined. A person who
is responsible on her work is able to solve the task calmly and not even a surfeit of
complaints . It brings us to a brighter future .
At the same time, I have learnt to be more patient and not to give up the job
easily. I have to stay strong no matter how hard it is for me to succeed . I have learnt
to cherish about others help .
Last but not least ,I have learnt a lot of moral values after conducting and
completing this project. I am glad that I have done it in time.

REFLECTION
I spent few days to finish this project. After I have done this project, I realised that
there is a big gain for me . Without doing it, it is impossible to achieve my big dreams
and wishes.
This project encourages the student to work together and share their knowledge.
It is also encourages student to gather information from the internet, improve
thinking skills and promote effective mathematical communication.
Not only that, I had learnt some moral values . This project built a good
personality in me . It taught me to be responsible on my own works and be more
confidence while doing it . I must not give up easily when I faced a big problem
which could not find the solution . I also learnt to be more discipline . I enjoy doing
this project. I spend my precious time with friends and discuss with them to complete
this project.
Lastly, I proposed that this project should be continue because it brings a lot of
moral values to the student . It tests the understanding of students in Additional
Mathematics.
