“God’s Strategy For Rap”

“I will bless the Lord at all TIMES and His Praises

shall continually be in my RHYMES” (Psalms 34:1)
C. MONEY THE DISCIPLER - Minister-In-Rap

God has given all of us the ministry of reconciliation, but today there
is a remnant of rappers that are prophets and God-ordained preachers.
They have been given a specific assignment: to reform or restore rhapsody
(R-A-P stands for Really Anointed Preaching). All of our gifts and talents
were given to us from God, to be used for Him. Gifts belong to God and
are entrusted to us for our use. We may misuse a gift, but this does not take
away from God’s ownership. Rapping is a gift from God. The defilement
of lyrics by the prominent rappers in music today does not make rap
107

evil. It just means that the rapper is perverting his God-given gift. One’s
stewardship of a gift, one’s proper use of it, is one’s gift to God.

The definition of rhapsody is great praise to God. We must learn to

speak the language of our youth. God will use restored rhapsody to bring
billions to know His Son.

Some people are under the assumption that rap is not “of God.” Oh
yes, it is! “In the Beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God,
And the Word was God. All things were made by Him. And without Him
was not anything made that was made. In Him was Life and the Life
was the light of men. And the light shined in darkness and the darkness
comprehended it not. And the Word was made flesh” (John 1:14). The
abstract was made concrete. The invisible was made visible. The intangible
was made touchable. Our God is a linguistic God. He is a God of language.
He is a language specialist. He is a speaking God. He is more than force and
power. Force can be wind. Power can be electricity. God is intelligence,
yet He is more than just brilliance. He is more than encyclopedias. He is
more than computers. He is a communicator.

When God made man, He created him to be a communicator. While

animals can make a variety of sounds, no other species in the world can
communicate as fluently or effectively as human beings can. We were
created in the likeness and image of a linguistic God. It is part of our God-
likeness to be able to communicate, and the more we become like God
the more effective we become at communicating. We are designed to be
creative communicators.

Rappers are M.C.s (Master Communicators). The battle today is for the
minds of people. Influence what a person believes, and you influence the
whole person. The only way we will change is by changing our thinking.
We have to reprogram ourselves with the right thinking. Your mind is just
like a computer. You can go out and buy the most expensive, powerful
computer with the most memory and the latest gadgets. But if you program
that computer with the wrong software, it’s not going to function properly.
The problem is not the hardware.

108

It’s the same with us. You and I were made in the image of the
Almighty God. He’s our manufacturer. When He created us, He made us
to be victorious. From the beginning He programmed us for success, joy,
peace, and victory, but often we allow the enemy to get in and reprogram
our software. Strategically, however, God takes every abuse, misuse,
disaster, adversity, and weakness to bring about a uniting effect.

Rappers who operate from their God-given callings will defy the
order of the day and the acceptable format of today’s rap music with a
radical infusion of Jesus and hip-hop. Music is a universal language. This
“righteous rap” will reach Generation Next, impacting a group of people
who might never enter a church building. It will seek and save those who
are lost, edify believers, and restore families by bridging generational
gaps. This new rap will revolutionize traditional forms of outreach.

As a genre, rap music dominates the entire world. Hip-hop is in the

forefront of pop culture. It governs what’s cutting edge in fashion trends and
style. Hip-hop is a multibillion-dollar industry. Even mainstream America
is captivated by it. Hip-hop is also found in Australia, Japan, China, all
over Europe, Singapore, Russia, Germany, and the Middle East.

Hip-hop culture crosses all ethnicities. It doesn’t see color. At rap

concerts you see whites, blacks, browns, yellows, and reds. This culture
has done a better job than the government and all the churches combined
at bringing people of different nationalities together. Martin Luther King,
Jr. said, “Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. is the most segregated time in the
world, because every race and ethnic group goes to their own churches.”

The message of salvation should cross all racial, social, and cultural
barriers. We must develop strategies to reach every segment of the
population. Righteous rap takes this message of salvation to all people.
When prominent rap artists stand before God, he will not ask them if
they sold the most CDs and DVD’s. He will ask them if they fulfilled
their calling. Did they take advantage of their notoriety and power of
influence?

Writing From the Heart

The Bible says, “The godly person shall be like a tree planted by the
rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall
not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper” (Psalms 1:3). So much
of life seems to be withering today. A demonic plot to destroy the family
has been devised. The statistics of young people gunned down by street
gangs are overwhelming. There are broken marriages and broken dreams.
But despite the corruption that is at an all time high, I am encouraged.
Righteous rap will go beyond recycling saints to rescuing and reclaiming
a mass secular market, stimulating repentance and salvation and impacting
the world with healing and deliverance.

Jesus reached the lost with the gospel and reproduced himself in men.
But the work remains unfinished. There are three desires that God has for
each of us:

1. God desires all of us to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus

Christ. He desires that all men repent and be reconciled to
Him. He sent His Son so that man might believe and receive
eternal life.

2. God desires that we become spiritually mature. We are not

meant to remain spiritual children.

3. God desires that we become spiritual reproducers. We are to

equip others so they can be sent out to reproduce themselves
in others, in a third spiritual generation. This is the divine
strategy for continuation of the work of Christ.

Christianity is about sharing this gospel with those who haven’t heard
it. The King of Kings has been waiting for the church to grow up and get
the job done. We’ve got to move from invitation to invasion. Ministry
happens out in the world. We’ve got to speak the world’s language. We’ve
got to connect. In the Bible, you see that Jesus went everywhere. He was a
friend to sinners. He accepted every person right where they were. People
felt comfortable around him.

Statistics say there are approximately two billion Christians on the

planet, but there are six billion inhabitants. God uses every avenue available
to spread the gospel of influence. We are now in the midst of the most
savage storm the world has ever known. Our society is riddled with aids,
pornography, rape, abortion, murder, drive-by shootings, incest, greed,
government corruption, homosexuality, terrorism, and war. Millions of
people are bound with the chains of sin, sickness, poverty, and disease.

But there is an answer! Righteous rap is a channel to reach the lost.

Rappers may seem like the least likely candidates for God to use. But as
they operate from their God-given calling, they will defy the order of the
day and the acceptable format with a radical infusion of Jesus and hip-
hop.

Great ministry is birthed out of great pain and shame. God does not
waste anything. Although all hip-hop is not good, it all works together for
good. When God gets ready to use someone, He doesn’t choose religious
people. He finds people who have been in the fire. Fire is what purifies
you; it burns the mess out of you and gives you a message. This message
offers grace, mercy, forgiveness, and redemption. It’s liberation, not
incarceration. This is rhapsody restored!
